Martin. As a medical professional I can tell you to that you must protect your lungs. As much as you suit up for paint you should do the same with dry wall dust. You just inhaled about the equivalent of 10 packs of cigarettes or more.

I was about to make the same comment but then I saw yours. Any kind of dust will irritate eyes and airways, both should be protected.

Where is your mask? As many may have asked. As my mom always said “keep those lungs pink and moist”. But, the garage looks better than some houses. 😊

When you’re not a professional, you don’t get the education that goes along with it. People watch videos and say “ hey, I can do that”. Sure you can, but since you’re not in the industry, you’re not aware of the health effects. It used to drive me crazy, now, I just try and enjoy the video. lol

I used to watch this channel and see the woman using a chop saw while her long hair flowed down… several people commented about the danger. I just found it too nerve racking to watch them do construction with all the safety risks they took. Stopped by this video wondering if they had moved and started a new project, lol. Guess not. Lovely couple. Lovely location.@@juliejohnson9531

Having had tiles in my previous house and had to do battle with mould on the grout, never again. The walk-in shower I have now uses a product called Wetwall, which is plywood, with a waterproof surface on one side - purchased in sheets, it has waterproof joints for both straight and 90 degree turns - goes up far faster than tiles, and no grout to worry about.

    • @rogernation2551
      @rogernation2551 4 місяці тому +1

@@SkepticCyclist I’ve been watching ever since they started in Idaho and love the channel. But they’re no different from ANY other DIYer on UA-cam. They can physically do the work and mentally make it presentable. But they haven’t been trained, other than UA-cam, so they aren’t aware of the health risks. At least he finally wears a mask when he grinds concrete, silica is right next to asbestos, for damaging your lungs.
No one lives forever, but there’s no reason to rush it!

Outstanding work guys, you are a great team, love watch each video. Brings back memories when 3 friends and I had contractor build the additions outside & framing rooms to our homes in Silicon Valley. Approx. 850 sf. Added for a total of 2,600 sf. We all finished the insides, electrical, sheet Rock, tapping and panning. Hired finish stairs contractor and carpets. Retired after 30 years in Corp America and moved on. Got a great price with multiple bids. Today that houses is valued at $3 million. Good times. People are still getting multiple bids on home sales in that area, it’s crazy.

I like a textured finish but have found it is harder to keep clean than a flat finish. The dust collects on the high spots so cleaning is needed more often. Each to their own.

The penny makes a great space for tile work. Learn the difference between sanded and unsanded grout. It matters which one you use. The hardest cut is the round holes for the plumbing. Always get extra tile for oops situations. Use a laser for accurate lines and check it often. Always dry-lay tiles in the space to figure out the ideal spacing. Do the bathtub first. Ideally, a full slab of material would be the best but you may not want to pay for that. The easiest is the pre-backed square foot piece that allows you to lay tile faster. Subway pattern is always a good way to do it. Include a niche for your shower supplies but make sure to tilt the shelf surface toward the tub at about a 5 degree angle. Make sure to thoroughly wrap the pipes in the wall to prevent them from freezing. Take lots of pics before you close in the walls so you know where pipes and electrical are. Don't forget the stud caps to protect pipes from screws. PLEASE WEAR A MASK WHEN SANDING!

with tile work follow directions and go slow and make sure you have the right mud and you should put in first a KERDI waterproof system is a pliable sheet-applied waterproofing membrane and vapor-retarder designed for the direct application of tile. KERDI is ideal for use in tiled showers, bathtub surrounds, residential steam showers, and other tile applications in wet areas. because bathrooms are wet places in the home you don't want to have mold or any other things in there to get wet and keep in the bath room

Heres an idea. A guy on another channel has his offgrid house complete. he just finished putting his solar up
on his roof. He was shopping for lithium batteries to build his battery pack when he recollected that the Ford
Lightning has the ability to powerup your house during power outages. he checked it out and as it turned out
the Lightning has a bigger battery pack capacity PLUS the truck cost less than the batterys he was looking
at to build his battery pack with. SO he bought the truck, saved $$, got more capacity & had a truck to run
    to town in.

You'll get overloaded with tips now, since you asked for tips on tile work. Best thing? Get some cheap or throwaway tiles and PRACTICE FIRST. It's quite a process and you want to keep it simple.... but you will want to know what you are getting into. Take anything... a board of some kind, some sort of scrap and tile THAT with the junk tiles. It won't take that long, but you'll get familiar with the process BEFORE you try to do it in your home. (The right tile adhesive and grout make all the difference - but often they do not perform as advertised - so testing is key... seriously.
