Wym Netflix pokemon series? The only thing Netflix has done with pokemon is the remake of the first movie which used the same voice for ash that they have been using for years. Not only that, it isn't a series. If you are talking about the TV show that happens to be on Netflix. Why bring up Netflix? They have no influence over the decision of who voices ash. Very minor thing but so confusing.

It’s because almost no money comes from the games themselves, all the money comes from collectible sales. Gamefreak isn’t actually the ones making the most money for Pokémon, it’s the Pokémon Company. Money is allocated to merchandise over any actual game development.
@@chananl2000 while its true their merchandise has a much bigger market share, the games are no insignificant part of their revenue like you are putting it. The games have made a total of 11.16 billion dollars without adjusting for inflation since the 90s. Just the games have made more money than any other franchise in the history of games ALONE. No merchandise. I'll concede that its just around 11% if their total revenue as a company. But saying they produce almost no money is a bold face lie.

Game Freak knows if they make Pokemon Poop and Piss they'd make Scrooge McDuck levels of money, so their incentive is to do the bare minimum for franchise engagement.

@@Gzilla313 That and like 70% or more of all the revenue generated by the pokemon franchise comes from merchandise. So while it started out as a game series it has become a merchandising brand which means the games, movies, anime, card game etc, all serve to sell more merchandise rather than the other way around.
They could spend more money on making a better pokemon game, they could spend more money on hiring more people to help Gamefreak with the nitty gritty details of game development and leave them to their strong suit which is world, character and pokemon design. They could give the games more development time to polish them up both graphically and mechnically. They could do so many things, but they choose not to because it's not where the money is.
Non-Merchandise pokemon items or media simply serve to keep the brand alive and fresh in peoples minds and memories as well as push the new pokemon into peoples consciousness so they're that much more likely to be able to sell plushies, bed sheets, posters, mugs, you name it. It's a sad state of affairs if you love pokemon because of the games but it's the reality we live and the sooner people realize this the faster everyone will understand why the games are the way they are rather than just blaming Game Freak for being lazy or incompetent (which they might be and they do deserve some criticism but so does The Pokemon Company and Nintendo for how they're choosing to run the franchise).
And as long as the Pokémon fans admit this and stop pretending like the games are the second coming of Christ because of their pride then I’m cool with it

Just happy to have a reviewer point out, for once, that GameFreak gets a pass because Pokemon but any other developer would be absolutely annihilated if they’d released this game in 2022. Don’t tell me they didn’t have the time and money and talent to make this better than what they released.

It's so funny to see Horizon Forbidden West look the way it does and know that that series as a franchise will never even surpass a fraction of Pokemon.

This is a pretty common thing that everyone is pointing out. No one is denying that this is well below the standards of the gaming industry in 2022, but despite that, it is well ABOVE the standards of Gamefreak and people are just happy to have a Pokemon game that's actually fun for the first time in like a decade.

@@bigstu4700 Even as an American, I'm pretty sure when Arceus was first introduced I remember everyone pronounced it "Arse-eus" (and I think even in the first movie Arceus was in they pronounced it the same way)
@@nickdawson9176 The ongoing joke is that the Pokémon Company has officially pronounced the name several different ways, so it’s not actually clear which one it is. For example in the movie “Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life” they actually pronounce it like 5 different ways.

Just *imagine* what Pokemon could be if given to passionate, competent devs with the proper amount of time. Imagine if Bandai Namco took over publishing and used their dev teams - the amount they've done for Digimon games with such little budget is truly insane. With Pokemon levels of money, they could easily develop essentially what is Pokemon Arceus with the polish and fidelity of Pokemon Snap.
We can only hope that the Shitshow of SWSH and BDSP finally gets Nintendo to put the boot on Greed Freaks neck and force them to make a game that's comparable in quality to stuff they put out almost ten years ago.
Or at least put all the pokemon in the damn game again.

Every pop culture reference clip is always used in the perfect context. All the edits are hilarious, but the use of that Mrs Doubtfire bit was something else. One of the many reasons I prioritize this channel and love it so much. Just pure comedic art from you two.

My husband has been religiously playing this game, he's obsessed and in love with it. It's almost everything he wants for new pokemon games
Once again, gamers complain they get the bare minimum, and then celebrate when pokemon gives them the bare minimum. It's a vicious cycle that GameFreak has ZERO incentive to break so long as people keep buying their half-assed games. Thank you for being honest! Also yes, amazing Ash voice.
I think that you arent considering that if this game does bad, it means that GameFreak has an excuse to say "told you so, only classic pokemon games with little change sell well! Of course it's a win-win situation for them, after all it's a business and that's their plan. This time they didn't do the "bare minimum", they just aren't the best at developing games and made a safe bet with it's resources which is definitely a mediocre result in many areas but at least an actual effort of doing something different and a fun product. I can guarantee you that if this would have flopped, you wouldn't have seen them try to do a Pokemon open world/sandbox in a long time, if ever. At least now there's a chance that they polish and improve on this type of game.
Yeah, I'm aware that it's GameFreak and that there's a good chance that they make what they always do with sequels. But if there's one time that the fanbase actually has to support a new game it's with this one. If people also pass on the next main entry if they do the bare minimun again (unlikely), then there's even a greater chance of actual change and them considering the feedback of their games improving too little. After all they are a company and their income is the best way to make a point with them. It's whishful thinking, but from my point of view this is the only chance that we have as part of the fanbase that is tired of their products. Of course, people also have to be critical of the product even if they support it to see if they bet on it to improve sales.

Given that context this is absolutely the bare minimum. BotW looks better than this game and it’s been out for 5 years. 😐
@@HaxStudio No, the bare minimum would be without any kind of gameplay changes like they usually do. As I said, I agree that they could have done way more but I also explained why this project needs support.
It's definitely a budget project, I'm not defending it's shortcomings, but it's important to understand why as customers interested in the franchise we have to recognize when it's an actual attempt of something different and ignoring this entry would do more wrong.

Even if I did relent and say it’s not quite the bare minimum… It’s still minimal effort. There’s quite literally no excuse for this game to run and play like this.

The Napoleon Dynamite bit was inspired
I've been playing this, currently grinding my way through research to get to the end of the postgame. This is the first time I saw someone sum up my experience with the game, like it's "different" but it's not really THAT different and it feels like I've allowed myself to be gauged out of nostalgia for what is still basically a game of "catch a ton of animals including the ones we made it impossible to find/evolve without looking up a walkthrough." At the very least I'm gonna need a bonkers landscape and/or some kind of terrible tragic ghost pokemon story to lure me back next time.
That Napoleon Dynamite bit was one of the best I've seen on this channel! That's comedy right there

I haven’t watched Pokémon for a long time. I had pretty much forgotten what Ash sounds like, but this brought me directly back to when I was five years old, watching the first few episodes of Jhoto and seeing heracross get captured by Ash on my tiny box tv in my basement. Bravo to you for making a ash impression so good, that it can immediately bring back a forgotten childhood memory.
For about 10 seconds I was like, " they got the voice of Ash for this?" LOL good job guys, another great video.

It's super ugly and pretty basic but it is indeed the best pokemon game in a long time and surprisingly fun. Hopefully gamefreak builds on this to go from a solid n64 game to a solid gamecube game.
Maybe with a few more years Game Freak might finally be able to catch up to Genius Sonority, the absolutely unknown guys who made those Gamecube spinoffs and then got uncerimoniously kicked out because they upstaged the boss.

I know it's super unfair to compare the two but Horizon Forbidden West just came out and it's not even funny to think that will sell less than half of Arceus.
Horizon Zero Dawn sold more than 20 million copies, the sequel is going to do similar numbers.

@@esckswiss2713 And Arceus has already sold 6.5 million. Horizon will probably sell half overall. Arceus looks fun, I know multiple people who enjoy it, but it's not hard to see the lack of polish and care put into the presentation. Gamefreak and Nintendo knows they can get away with it, so they do.
Smt5 will sell a fraction of this too despite being the exponentially more innovative and visually appealing monster catching game.
tbf, its a kids game compared to an grownup game. kids games and movies do better commercially than stuff made for adults
As always, hilarious and amazingly edited! Love you guys! Also spot on with my thoughts on Pokemon. It's not that graphics necessarily need to be insane. But they have more money than god and seem to spit out some of the lowest quality games they can. The sad thing is they do it, because they know the fan base will buy it. It has just gotten to a point where its a bit mean to their fanbase. I really hope they do better next time. At least they are pushing the games in a different direction for once. Oh well I'll go play all the other non-Pokemon games till then. Woot!

This is another game I'm not sure how to feel about.
I was having a blast during the first half, even to the point where I was actually thinking about completing the dex for the first time. But the quest design hasn't been interesting enough to motivate me to finish all the post-game content.
I don't know if I'm ever going to get my feelings on Pokemon sorted out.
it was the same for me, after each region I was looking forward for the next regions to discover new pokemon. But once arrived in Icelands, this region was so empty and bland that every problem i have with the game manifest themselves at the same time.

I think I know how to feel about it, but I get what you're going through. It feels to me like what I expected. A half-baked, but entertaining entry in the series that experiments and therefore is much more exciting, but I know that down the line it's going to bore me. Not bore me to the point I won't *ever* play it again, just... I can tell that all the stuff I was able to ignore this time around won't be ignorable next time.
And more than that, if they make another Legends game and don't improve upon the previous one enough, it's going to be *painfully* obvious and people will shit on it harder than they've ever shit on a Pokemon game before.

I'll sort your feelings out for you, then.
It's a bad franchise and a poorly designed game from the ground up with developers that have refused to meaningfully innovate on their formula in over 30 years because people are too willing to purchase things that they enjoyed when they were children.
If you have conflicted feelings and can't muster the motivation to complete even intrinsically set goals within the game it's not some personal failure--it's the game failing to do the literal one thing it should do; Entertain you. Once you're done basking in nostalgia or the novelty of a 'new Pokemon game, you're able to see it as the dull mess of a product that it is. Spend your time (and money) with literally anything else.

As for the game, I 100% agree it feels like more or less the Pokemon game we should have gotten on the N64. Like I'm glad they made it more immersive finally, but they still have 10-20 years of catching up to do on modern video games mechanics.

i loved this game, but it feels like a 3ds game. especially on the graphical side, cuz i have a switch lite and hardly see the pixely problems on the screen. pokemon has still yet to do an actual switch game, but at least theyre getting better. plus if the colon in the title indicates anything, we might be getting more games like this which could be even better. (next one will probably be unova region and we see what reshiram and zekrom use to look like, either that or johto and we get to see ho-oh resurrect suicune and all of them)

This had so many of my thoughts! Goodness did I love catching the pokemon, and was always a little saddened when I had to resort to fighting them rather than doing something else to calm them down or tire them out (yes I know you can just run away and come back, but that's not engaging)
The graphical issues I think come up so well with this game because they're so obvious and in your face. It feels like little to no work was done to hide all of the issues, or blend the LODs together. The world was constantly popping and warping in front of you, and there were tons of times where effects just completely broke down (like those weird square cutouts around you when things like water were behind you).
If this game had another 6-12 months of polish working on the visuals, I bet we could have enjoyed it much more, as they could have made the whole thing look more stable and cohesive. But as that seems completely impossible for GF to do that for some reason, I guess we'll never see a truly polished experience from them.
