Dear Ryan, you have done a magnificent job at preserving osteological specimens for future generations in a very professional manner. Thank you, your videos are just remarkable.
GREAT VID! I'm a bone collector from holland and I've already cleaned a dozen of skulls by boiling. In my opinion boiling is the best way to clean skulls as you can do it in 1 day. I've learned alot about your videos and i'm certainly going to use some of these techniques!
I didn't know why you do what you do with skulls but am very appreciative for your willingness to teach. I'm doing my first buck skull. I actually appreciated hearing "that's how God made them." Also laughed out loud at your devil's armpit comment. 😜
Thanks for the video. I've got into doing hydro dipped deer skulls lately and I've had a lot of people give me deadheads they've had hanging in the woods so hopefully this will really be helpful to get them clean
Very helpful. Right now my hog head is on an ant bed so it can start cleaning off a lot of that flesh. So seeing what you’re doing with yours is giving me insight for sure
Love the videos! I've yet to do my first skull but these vids will be indispensable when I get around to doing it . You do a great job of explaining and organizing everything. Thanks again!
Hello, this is normally a guy thing but I am learning to do euro mounts and horn work with Highland Cattle. I have gotten 2 beetle colonies started and will use the beetles to do cleaning I am learning alot by watching what you are doing.
Just wanted to let you know how helpful and informative your videos are along with your easy going personality comes out very nice on video. Worked with claws and teeth in the past but starting with skulls this spring. Run an ADC business so it's another way to utilize the resource.
Ryan, you make some really informative videos! Thank you! I have a whitetail skull that I did not rehydrate long enough prior to boiling. It is a little yellow around the eye sockets and on top of the head. Have you had experience with this? What's the best way to whiten these areas? I already simmered it in peroxide and am afraid of putting it back in too much. The little bones in front of the eyes are getting pretty thin. Have I ruined it?
I can relate to how nasty 🤢 rehydrating deadheads can be. Where do you get your pots from? You should do a video of all your pots and how to know what size for what.
Excellent videos, I am about to try your method on two large fresh boar skulls. I have a question though - I have a boar skull that is 23 years old. It has no tissue left (that I can see) but is dirty and discolored. Does it still need to be degreased if it's that old? Also, it has started to crack and split, so I'm afraid boiling it will break it into pieces. Is there a way I can do this without heating it up?
Ever tried a wildebeest dead head? They’re loose and trying to knock them off ahead of rehydration soak. I’m thinking the shape of the core might be the issue. No issues knocking of the bison horns in the dry state. Thanks for all your info! So far I’ve knocked out a few deer, axis, hog and elk skulls with your videos.
I just finished my first skull using your methods, it turned out great! I have one question though, how do you store your peroxide? I put mine back into the container, but I haven't closed the lid since it seems to keep bubbling a little, even though there is nothing in the peroxide...
My friend has a really old skull that she wants to clean since it still had a bit of fur and wasnt cleaned properly by the one who gave it to her. Do you have any advice she can use since she has a low budget and minimal tools? (Ps: the skull is small and doesnt have large antlers. Just two small points.)

Hello Ryan, great videos. I subscribed. I've got a coyote skull I want to try. I don't have a power washer, can I take the skull to the car wash? I'm not sure what the PSI is at the car wash. Thank you!
great videos bud. I have a question, i did all the steps on cleaning and ild skull left in a tree, and i cant seem to get rid of some yellow spots that are on top of the skull near the antlers is there anything else i can use or do i repeat the bleaching?
Why do you recommend not boiling with the skin on in this particular situation? Have seen other videos where old deer heads that were adhered were boiled and did well. Thanks for your input and nice vids!
Great Video. I have a mule deer buck skull I have been trying to whiten but there is still grease in the skull. The skull is about 3 years old and was just sitting in my shop with the skin still on. What would you recommend the skull to soak in to take out that grease?
Rishav Bhattarai for birds and fish I use dermastid beetles that works best o the wise ull blow the small bones out with a pressure washer or u can massacate the fish skull theres just also of rebuild doing it that way tho
great video.. I have a javelia hunt coming up in FEB and want to bleach the skull when i tag out.. im going to start practicing on coyote and fox skulls should i boil less time then i would with a javelina?
Caleb McLain I just got done doing a possum skull by skinning it and leaving it in 3% hydrogen peroxide mason jar for about 4 days. All of the meat and muscle fell completely off, the brain washed out, and the bone integrity was not compromised. I left it in biz detergent because it contains enzymes that eat away all the loose stringy skin that might still be sticking. After that, I put it back in some hp for a couple hours. The skull turned out perfect. I think it honestly depends on the skull. What animal did you do? I usually only do small game and rodents.
@@junkaccount2535 I have been doing some really old, I mean old skulls. They are whitetail and they had all the hyde and everything left on. They had been left outside, in a big plastic barrel and were extremely yellow. I told the guy I'd see what I can do to get them white. It's been a lot soaking and tough skinning. I have been experimenting with all kids of whitening batches while doing the project and some skulls turn out awesome and others not even close. The HP mix I'm using turns anything extremely white and is a little more potent than what he is using and still cost effective. I'm not sure if I should soak them in acetone or not but I'm really just wondering is there such a thing as a skull being to fair gone? They are clean when they leave and I'm making that priority.
Actually it depends mostly on the age of the animal. A younger critter will have thinner, weaker bones, while an old one will have more resistant bones. The species also plays a role in it, so for example a farm pig will be more porous than a wild boar.
Great video man, well spoken, well explained, great results. Learnt a great deal from it! If I use 50/50 bleach (stuff you use on cloths) and water and boil once it's clean will this work??
Thank you for the comment. Household bleach will yellow you skull. I would recommend not using bleach even low volume peroxide would be better. Thanks again for watching.
hey man..I just subscribed to ur channel ..I have been wanting to get into the biz..I think I would b awesome at it..great stuff. thank you for the inspiration
For the mixture of 40% peroxide are you using equal parts water and peroxide, i.e. 1 bottle of peroxide=same amount of water? I have a couple skulls i need to run thru again to rid some remaining oils from. Great vid, big time help, I had never heard of boiling them in peroxide after initial boil.
Hello! I recently purchased a cow skull from a flea market that was never properly cleaned up all the way. It's horns were glued back on heavily causing it to be very greasy around the base and on the horns themselves. The skull still has mummified tissue pieces along the back and on parts off the teeth. Due to It's horns and size It's very hard to place in any bucket and I would like to avoid boiling. My originial plan to fix this was to buy some scalpels and just pick the tissue off around while rinsing it in a bucket full of water and some pressure washing here and there. However I'm not sure how to go about degreasing It's horns since this is my first ever animal skull. I love It's current color and the rest of the skull isnt oily or greasy at all but It's just the horns that need this done. My plan is to turn it into a wall mount possibly on a wooden mount. Any help would be appreciated and I will await your response, thank you!
Hi. I have a couple of Roe Buck skulls that I macerated then left in water for six months. The bone is quite discoloured as a result. Someone told me I should soak them in acetate before then peroxiding them. Would you agree with that process?
Thanks for the video, I learned some stuff. Thought you might like to know that dinosaur fossils are not bone they are rock. when they fossilize the bone gets replaced by rock in the same shape, so the fossil is the same color as the surrounding rock. Probably not the best comparison, but I know what your meant.
In the whitetail if you have the dark spots in between the eyes on the forhead after the boil and its due to air in the nasal cavity is that a permanent thing or can it be fixed?
great video! very good info! Question though, does it hurt the antlers if they are soaked/ boiled? or do you fill up the tub just to the base of the antlers?
I don't have a boiler and I have a 4 year old coyote skull with lots of skin and meat on it I'm soaking it in water and Don dish soap is there anything else I can do ty love ur videos
I just boiled a deer skull about a week ago that has been rotten since October 🤢 I got most of the meat and stuff out but there are still tiny little places that have meat in them. Will the peroxide get all of that out or do I have to boil one more time?
I have a bison skull that’s been sitting in the sun the last year that still has maybe 1/3 of the hide and wool on it. So I should soak it for maybe up to a week until it’s rehydrated and the hide is loose, then cut off everything, then put back into clean water and bring to a boil then take it out and use the pressure washer to remove everything that’s left?? Can I add baking soda to the water for the initial 5-7 day rehydrating soak?? Also, how long should I soak it in the water and peroxide mix after boiling and cleaning?! Thanks in advance! This is my first attempt (I have 2 bison skulls) and I can’t wait to see them finished! ☺️
How long would i want to boil/soak a full sized dairy cow dead head? This is a massive old aged dairy heifer. Do they grease as bad as the pigs? (It has been sitting out since last fall tied up in an unused deer stand) Do I need to pull the front teeth on a cow?
*ENTER MEME HERE* dragonheartmeteor So im assuming that u didn’t watched all the vid untill the end be patient man . The vid is prodected by discovery instituite it’s proofs that not all the creatures decended from one living cell . And proofs that the fossile record proofed that alot of big and complicated animales is coming from no thing in the fossil record .
Can i ask some questions? i clean skulls by maceration method normally (talk about stink!) so im used to some pretty rotten stuff. Although, its winter time in WI and maceration wont work all that well when my maceration buckets will freeze or get damaged in snow. I would like to do what you do for my deer skull work, but just want to know a few things. the power washer, it doesnt bust the nose bones inside or do you kind of avoid those? what pressure is it at? i simmered a skull today and its kind of working but getting some of the extra crud off is still tight on the skull. these skulls are not super fresh as i do this as a side job while in school, so i do them when i can..... ANY tips is great. I want to avoid bone cracking, seperation, and grease spots occuring in the future. thanks!
New subscriber here. Your videos are so informative and I wish I had watched them BEFORE attempting to do my boar skull myself. I went through a friend of a friend who knew a taxidermist and following his steps, I cleaned it, boiled it, washed it, then he said to put it in a cage and let it sit outside for a few weeks to get picked really clean then do the peroxide. I was never told to remove the teeth so I did not. I am going to drill the hole that you did and reboil and clean it and I have to buy peroxide. My question is, is there a trick to removing the teeth and is it going to be more difficult because I boiled it already? Also how do I put them back in? Is it just superglue? Thanks
+If it’s a young pig the cutters and witters will not come out if it’s a mature pig they will wiggle out once you have boiled long enough. Good luck brother. Brian Rago
WHITEBONE CREATIONS HUNTING thank you sir for the quick response. It is a mature boar and I have surgical tooth extractors so hopefully they will come right out. Appreciate the help!
Hey man, for a black bear skull that has already been boiled and all tissue removed, how long would you let it sit in the peroxide 40/water solution after bringing it to a boil?
I love your vids bud! I am about to do a wattusi cross. Any tips on taking off horns and have you ever done one. I've done a few elk, lots of bucks, pigs and even a horse skull.
How about reptiles? I would like to articulate a diamondback I got on my Javelina hunt last year, but am worried that boiling or low and slow may be too much for their delicate bones. I don't have access to dermestids and I know they are favored over boiling to prevent shrinkage. Have you ever cleaned reptile, bird, or fish bones; and what would you recommend? Thank You
I have done all of the above with almost no success on the snake. I have done snake skulls that turned out good but not so much on the body. With my method for birds and fish I just scale everything back 50 percent. Delicate is key. I am working on a small game video as week speak. Sorry I could not be more help on the snake.
My problem is... after i have boiled a whitetail skull and whitened twice to try and get rid of a dark spot (im guessing oil) on the center of the forhead between the eyes. What can i do to get ride of the spot? I dont want to boil it again if i dont have to...Should i soak it in dawn dish soap...if so, how long. Thanks
+Matthew Rosloniecgyy7 Two things where the nasal cavity meats the brain there is lots of tissue and oil you can re power wash inside and degrease without boiling using commercial degreaser or you could have just trapped air in there during the boil. I have literally had that happen dozens of time before I figured it out. Good luck.
WHITEBONE CREATIONS HUNTING what if there is still some dried flesh inside the nasal cavity ? Do I soak it and pull it out or do I have the boil it? I haven’t done the white in process yet
Question, I've got a whitetail skull that has been decreased and then I went ahead with the whitening boil process that you use. After it dried grease spots came out on the forehead right between the eyes, so I tried whitening it again, same thing happened, I think the area gt a little whiter but there are a few spots that are very noticeable and I don't want to give it back to the customer yet because how spotty the grease spots are. Any suggestions? Should I attempt to degrease and then re whiten?
+Mark Maloney boil it upside down my guess is you have air trapped in there and the peroxide it. It getting in there. I have had that happen many times.
Also, can you re whiten the skull after the mop and glow, like a couple years down the road, I've been told that you can't. Wanted to know if you've tried it?
WHITEBONE CREATIONS HUNTING ...i have the same problem where i have boiled and whitened twice... is there any other way to get rid without reboiling. If i soak it in dawn dish soap will this work? Thanks
Hey there! I've got a deadhead soaking. I haven't done this yet so this 8 point buck my old man found will be my first. I can't get ahold of any 40 percent by volume peroxide though. what would be a good substitute. I was thinking store bought peroxide maybe but instead of a boil soak the deer head for a few days in that after I've got it all cleaned. What do you think?
Justice Vasey you can use and strength peroxide. The lower the number the longer the soak. Like 10 min in 40 percent 2 hours in 3 percent. Hope that helps.
OMG I know what you mean by stinks like the devils armpit now. I got into hydrodipping about a year ago and was asked to do one by this guy. When he brought it to me it had hide and all still on. Soaked it in water to get everything softened up and skinned this morning
How did you get the bottom jaw off the deer? Ive got a dead head my dad had left out side, theres no hide on it just the flesh when he left it there. Im new to this stuff and im not sure how to get the bottom jaw off with out braking anything if that does happen. It still has the tongue and stuff in it so im not sure how you would get around that to get the jaw off.
Just soak it in a bucked for a few day to loosen things up. then grab the from teeth and nose and open his mouth as wide as possible and it will pull off.
great video, i subscribed! should i hang my skulls in the sun after bleaching with peroxide? and can i bleach a dirty 5+ y/o skull i found in the woods? im afraid it might not come clean.
+survivorman1213 In the sun just until its dry. During the winter months I just dry with a fan inside. You can bleach an old skull but it will be more delicate so just go low and slow.
+Jennifer Harton Not a stupid question. I think it's just a traditional look less the jaw. I have done it both ways. It's hard to secure to the head but really just preference. Thank for watching and the comment.
I just watched Bud get his elk. Very touching. I got a little emotional. I love what you do and wish there were more videos. I've never been hunting but I appreciate someone who has a passion for what they do and are good at it. I love that you teach someone who is looking to do this kind of thing weather for work or hobby. Keep up the good work and I'll keep watching. Thanks for what you do.
Hi. Well, I popped da Hog..took sa head, boiled it up, but bought wrong Aquasilk. Until the correct Aquasil comes in ( about a week)..can I soak in Acetone for week first and THEN use AquaSilk?
I got these two antelope skulls that I had Beatled and the one is kind of a purpleish color on the top of its nose do you have an idea of what that might be and how I could fix it ?... thanks

+Jerwin Williams No gator yet and no whole animal. This year.
Ok I'm from Guyana and I like hunting gator so I was thinking about putting the bones up
I happen to have some odor ban for concrete/hard surfaces. Would that be to harsh for this?
I don't have a boiler and I have a 4 year old coyote skull with lots of skin and meat on it I'm soaking it in water and Don dish soap is there anything else I can do ty love ur videos
Is it okay to freeze a deer head from a deer just killed with the skin, eyes, brain, etc. and thaw it to do a euro mount later?
What PSI is your pressure washer? I'm worried about damaging small bones in the nasal cavity on a whitetail
narly ur a saint.
I just boiled a deer skull about a week ago that has been rotten since October 🤢 I got most of the meat and stuff out but there are still tiny little places that have meat in them. Will the peroxide get all of that out or do I have to boil one more time?
Where did you get that pot?
Great detailed video great job
I have a salty pig hive and I want to make a pig rug from it. If you can make a video on how to do I would appreciate it.
How long would i want to boil/soak a full sized dairy cow dead head? This is a massive old aged dairy heifer. Do they grease as bad as the pigs? (It has been sitting out since last fall tied up in an unused deer stand) Do I need to pull the front teeth on a cow?
Give it a few days at least in the soak. You will not need to pull teeth.
+WHITEBONE CREATIONS HUNTING thank you very much for the fast response!
+KandorinCreations your welcome and good luck.
What do you do with velvet on antlers I'm Zack and 11 I'm really country for my age I love hunting
how much do you charge for a European mount
I like your vids, man! but I seriously laughed when you said "that's how they're built, that's how God made them".
Anyway, keep up the good work!

@@mustafafreesoul18 I'm confused. What does that vid have to so with this?
*ENTER MEME HERE* dragonheartmeteor
So im assuming that u didn’t watched all the vid untill the end be patient man .
+Brian Rago Good luck and welcome.
Hey man, for a black bear skull that has already been boiled and all tissue removed, how long would you let it sit in the peroxide 40/water solution after bringing it to a boil?
+Cody Lee one or two minutes tops.
I love your vids bud! I am about to do a wattusi cross. Any tips on taking off horns and have you ever done one. I've done a few elk, lots of bucks, pigs and even a horse skull.
One side at a time boil best twist.
Beat
Thank you for the tips on scaling back 50% I will test on a different snake and see what happens
Thanks we got it out!
Thanks
What you recommend for a bear skull.. Just put it in the color batch for 5 min??
WHITEBONE CREATIONS HUNTING It sure has thanks alot!
Thank you for the tips!!!
Super helpful! Thank you!
OMG I know what you mean by stinks like the devils armpit now. I got into hydrodipping about a year ago and was asked to do one by this guy. When he brought it to me it had hide and all still on. Soaked it in water to get everything softened up and skinned this morning
+clwdeerhunter STANK RIGHT !!!
WHITEBONE CREATIONS HUNTING Worst thing I've ever smelled. Had to take a couple breaks for fresh air while I was working on skinning it
Awesome work! Subscribed!
Does the peroxide bleach the antlers or should they be covered up when bleaching thanks
Robert Thompson Always cover them if possible it will bleach them 100 percent for sure.
I was wondering if you drill all the pig skulls or just the skull that smell like "the Devils arm pit"?
+charles77gmail
I drill them all just to get that small void above the brain clear. thanks for watching.
Do you ever have problems with the skulls being brittle on a dead head? Cracking/separation or teeth loss
Yes it just the nature of that old dry bone.
great video, i subscribed! should i hang my skulls in the sun after bleaching with peroxide? and can i bleach a dirty 5+ y/o skull i found in the woods? im afraid it might not come clean.
+survivorman1213 In the sun just until its dry. During the winter months I just dry with a fan inside. You can bleach an old skull but it will be more delicate so just go low and slow.
I hope its not a stupid question but how come you don't use the bottom jaw bone on deer?
+Jennifer Harton Not a stupid question. I think it's just a traditional look less the jaw. I have done it both ways. It's hard to secure to the head but really just preference. Thank for watching and the comment.
I just watched Bud get his elk. Very touching. I got a little emotional. I love what you do and wish there were more videos. I've never been hunting but I appreciate someone who has a passion for what they do and are good at it. I love that you teach someone who is looking to do this kind of thing weather for work or hobby. Keep up the good work and I'll keep watching. Thanks for what you do.
+Jennifer Harton Thank you Jennifer.
Hi. Well, I popped da Hog..took sa head, boiled it up, but bought wrong Aquasilk. Until the correct Aquasil comes in ( about a week)..can I soak in Acetone for week first and THEN use AquaSilk?
I got these two antelope skulls that I had Beatled and the one is kind of a purpleish color on the top of its nose do you have an idea of what that might be and how I could fix it ?... thanks
+trayton Scheeler the downfall with beetles is degreasing. The purple is blood. You can't soak them I peroxide and water to try and pull some color.
Thanks I will try that
Awesome work! Subscribed
Hello, does it hurt to soak a fresh skull (not dry or dead) for 5 days? I'm going out of town and not have enough time to finish the process, just skinned and with little flesh and meat.
+Juan Gerardo Pastrana The soak is great wet or dry.
thanks! Almost done with this project.
What does the mop n glow do
Have you ever taken a pig and put it auto degreaser to help pull the grease out? I was thinking that might work well
If there are no dies in ill bet it would be great... I have used all the zip products and yes they work well.
White latex gloves are the best! :)
I'd watch this guy talk about paint drying.
Have you ever done a goat before? Is it just like doing in antelope?
+Jeremy Stolley I have and yeah just like and Antelope. I also have a video on how to European horned animals.
Are gator heads really hard to get clean is there any easier way to clean them so you don't lose teeth
