Great video!! Great way to honor an old boy. I live on a hunting ranch in West Texas and anytime my husband and I find something we want to keep that died out here, we just wire it to our fence posts around the house. Once it’s been picked clean and the West Texas sun has done its job, we boil it once in a similar fashion and pressure wash it. We typically have to do a bit of restoration on the horns but not much. We use mop and glo also! Great trick! They always come out pretty dang white and never a problem with smell or bugs. Great job!

When it’s fit back in the exact position I put a small piece of wire back into the hole to hold the horn on the bone. Great job thanks for sharing.

Hey, I just discovered your channel. I used to do museum work at Cabrillo Aquarium in San Pedro, and I've cleaned a fair bit of bones. I can definitely confirm how hard the work actually is. It's one of those things that just seems so easy until you start doing it. This was on my recommended and enjoyed watching it. 3-4 years ago my brother wanted to use a cow skull for a Halloween costume and he got a cow head from the local butcher. We did not know anything about cleaning bones so we left the skull out in the lot besides our house, 10-15 meters away, to let the ants do their job. The skull was VERY stinky, we could smell it from our own rooms 😂 at night some stray dogs robbed parts of it because they were very attracted to the rotten smell and grease on it. It was still so stinky and full of rotten meat after two days that we ended up getting rid of it! If there is a next time I would suggest my brother to follow this tutorial instead 😅
I’ve done my Own European skull mounts before I just leave everything on it and toss it in a ant hill the ants will clean everything why do you take the skin off
Just cleaned my first steer skull using your video as a guide. This is hard work! One question though. I pulled off the horns from the bone cores and pulled out all the meat and cartilage that was inside the horns. I used dawn dishwashing liquid and a round scrub brush to clean out the inside of the horns. After 3 days, I can still smell them. They smell like boiled beef. it's not a rotten smell, just a beef smell. What can I do to get rid of the smell? By the way, thanks for the awesome video.

I’ve done my Own European skull mounts before I just leave everything on it and toss it in a ant hill the ants will clean everything why do you take the skin off
That’s smart what kind of ants? Does it matter
Love your work mate, I've got a herd of longhorns in Australia and will put these pointers into play one-day when I do my own, cheers 👍
Imagine those horns for a Viking ale horn, you’d probably get drunk a quarter way through
Just cleaned my first steer skull using your video as a guide.

Smelling that boiling water must truly be an experience
Head soup is way better than maceration
I love the song you had playing during the power washing lol. I wanna use that power washer and do that so bad. That looks so satisfying watching it all wash away.
This is making me hungry
So glad there is no stupid people blaming you for killing an old and sick animal that lived a good long life. Beautiful process and beautiful horns
