Thank you for maintaining your youtube account. You always have my 100% attention when your running your tutorials. Your clear and concise vocabulary means even I can follow along and learn😜 My vote is for a clean nasal cavity for the exact reasons you gave but its ultimately each to their own. Keep focus on your goals Thank you for sharing Love your work
I've been doing skulls now for 9 years now, first for fun then as a small business. I used to really love doing it but has turned into more of a "job" last few years and not enjoying so much. This video alone has inspired me to get excited about it again. And also just a few of your videos I have learned SO much from you and I'm very grateful. Thank you.
Heres a tip, after everything’s done and you set the skull out to dry once its slightly dry but still pliable, take a qtip soaked in super glue pinch the nose bones back together and run the qtip underneath the nose bones in the nasal cavity. Hold for a minute or so. Makes for a super clean look rather than having split nose bones. Granted not all split but when they do its an easy fix.
I bypass this step by just running a ziptie and wrap it around the nose so the bones are tight and then dry like normal. In NY it is usually too cold and cloudy to dry outside so I bring them in front of the gas fireplace. They dry bright white and the bones are tight
@@nickwojieck thats true but the only thing holding those nose bones together is cartilage and it gets blown out in the power washing step. If not it drys yellow from the color batch. Not all deer but most, if you do euros in numbers you will come across this. Usually older deer nose bones wont be an issue
Dude you were awesome at explaining all that. I've never hydro dipped anything ever and I feel like you explained it so well I could start hydro dipping myself!
Just wanna thank you and say I've been watching you for a long time. I got my second buck ever this year and tried your method to do the mount and I absolutely love how it came out. Bright and white, looks great and I'll cherish the memories of that buck forever. It is my first euro and my first DIY mount, so I was a bit nervous before starting but your process works! Also, no nasal cavity and ear buds is definitely the way to go. Thanks for all of your videos, they've helped me out a ton!
I personally like to leave nasal bones in myself. Takes me a bit longer to clean because the bones are so delicate but it can be done properly with a bit of time and patience imo. I still have a lot to learn though and I am no expert by any means but you have provided a ton of useful information on providing a better product for my customers. I love your videos. Keep up the good work!!!
I'm with you, just take the time to remove nasal bones and the ear buds. You have always said clean is number one. Thank you for the educational video. See ya soon, your friend from Nebraska
I follow your videos to a T and have now done a ton of bears and white tails. I would suggest not using your own laundry soap as when I smell it all I think about is skull cleaning. very easy and simple to do. thanks for the videos !!!!! I watch every one
Ryan thank you so much for this video. I have customers ask me all the time why I take the nasal cavity out and I always explain how it is impossible for me to get everything out without taking that out. I have had a few that have asked me to keep it intact and I can't stand leaving it in because I know what's behind there. Always love the videos brother thank you again for this one 😀 God Bless you and your family good sir
I’ve been doing mine since I shot my first buck, and I do all of my buddies, and I have always pulled the sinus cavity’s out of them, and I take a saw that I jerry rigged so I can cut a section out underneath where the spinal cord comes out cuz I’ve always had problems with the brain membrain getting stuck. But yeah I agree, a clean skull is %100 the goal, had a fly land in one of mine before and that was not a fun time. Thanks for the video, you are the reason I do my own skull mounts and I really appreciate all the videos!
Thank you for doing these videos. I have learned so much from them and my skulls turn out better every time. Keep up the good work!!! P.S. I have French pointers that look just like yours and they are great dogs.
Thanks for a comprehensive video, best one I saw so far, I just finished my deer skull and I am at the stage of applying the Mop and Glo stuff on, unfortunately, I can't find it anywhere here in Canada as it has been discontinued. Any recommendation for another similar product that would work the same?..Thanks
Loving the videos! I’ve went to using the more aggressive tips as well, saves a ton of time. I also have gotten away from using electrical tape. On more than one instance the tape has bled colors into my boil so now I wrap in plastic and secure with foil.
Love your work! Definitely been my inspiration! You always have the coolest tip never fails I always stop and go well dang he did it again something I would have though of lol!
Thank you! I'm a DIY'er for my own personal interest and appreciate you sharing/teaching how you do euros! Did you use the same water from the first boil or replace with new water? Which laundry detergent are you using? Also, I see now you are preserving the natural antler stain; love it! Again, thank you for sharing!
I agree with you take out the nasal junk as I refer to it and the ear buds. Only thing I don’t do is drill the ears out I just smash them with the same screw driver and it creates a decent sized good enough hole.
Which Aquasilk do you use as the whitener? There's sanitizer, peroxide, and non chloride shock. In some of your older videos, you used the dioxygen clear liquid developer 40% as the whitener? Which would you recommend? I've seen some videos where they brush on the creme developer. Just trying to figure out the best way without causing damage to the skulls. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy your videos very much! Very informative and fun to watch. Enjoyed the custom Elk skull mount video.
Like you said, it's possible. But it takes time. I do warm macerating. I have a soup pot that stays at 60 degree's Celsius. The pot goes on during the day and off during the night. Just a mix of water and some sort of laundry detergent. I refill the water with a fresh batch once in the process and I spray the skull in-between. It all comes out eventually, leaving the Nasal intact. but it does take about 3 days of work.
Serious question here. Are you ever concerned about getting a face full of CWD positive brain when you're spraying out your skulls? Gotta be honest, I've become fairly concerned about it with the last few skulls I've done. None of the skulls I've done (1 elk, 3 deer) in the last year were tested for CWD, so who knows.
@@WHITEBONE thanks for the reply. Makes sense boiling would deactivate it. I know it hasn't made to jump to humans yet, but knowing my luck I'd be the first. Haha
Really great material! Been watching your channel for awhile now, very informal. I just did a mule deer for a client. His son had shot it a few seasons ago and the skin basically mummified to the skull. I Soaked it in dawn water for a week and boiled and bleached today (40% clear peroxide)However most of the skull did not whiten and has off colors of brown and grey stains, almost like the bone completely absorbed all the grease/oils. Any trick to get the deep grease out or what i can do to whiten it more? The darker stains are on the nasal bridge, i have checked the whole skull over to make sure there is no meat or tissue to be seen. I’ve also removed all the sinus. Thank you again for all the content!
ive got three whitetail to get done over the weekend. Thx for the refresher course I gotta say im REALLY disappointed that youtube is demonetizing your content forcing the alternate application.
Thanks for the class, you always are educational! Question: Color Bash, what is the Aqua Seal type that you use , and what does it do? Educate me, and your secret reason.
I've asked before but my comment probably got lost in the comments. Could you please show the animal before you finish them in this channel so we can see what they looked like. You've done skull videos after they had already been skinned and some of the animals we weren't familiar with. So maybe just a quick look before you skin them so we can see what you're working with. Thanks for your videos. We love them!!
I hope it's not too much to ask but could you please make a video of cleaning a skull found in the woods. I have several of these laying around but have no idea how to clean them nicely greetings johnny
There are some cavities that go from the nasal cavity to the brain cavity how do you clean them mine have bits of cartilage and soft matter in the tried everything to get it out
Thank you so much for these videos. I'm waiting on my two first deer skulls to arrive, as well as a complete spine. I'm going to try to clean the vertebrae to make a spine lamp. Do you have any tips on how to best clean vertebrae?
Any suggestions on a heat and sunlight when drying? This time of year in Va we do not get much bright sun. Ive tried work lights heat lamps but right between the eyes always has a glimish?
Question. I skinned & fleshed a whitetail skull last night that I’m doing for a friend . I usually skin, flesh, bag, and freeze mine the same day I harvest them, and then do everything I’ve accumulated all at once after the season ends. I want to do this particular one sooner, but I’d rather hunt this week. What’s the best way to store it at room temperature short term to keep any residual surface oil from absorbing into the bone? Is that even an issue to worry about?
How long should you boil the skull for? I heard that if you boil the skull for too long the teeth will fall out as well as the nose breaking off as well as other things on the skull
I tried this method and everytime I add the peroxide after it's boiling it foams up and starts overflowing the whole time and lose everything I had just put in the bucket. I'm putting a pint in there and even leaving the water down from the top of the bucket and then adding it and still foams up and overflows... Does this happen to you too

Is that laundry detergent or dishwasher detergent? I had thought about trying dishwasher packs to help with my boil for foaming so much. I use Oxiclean for now always try to degrease better.
Do you just boil 1 time and power wash? Or is it boiled several times and washed until clean? Also, on the aqua silk stage? Have you ever had it bleach the antlers under the shrink wrap and tape? Or do you feel safe it will keep the bleach off? Really enjoy your videos, very informative
Quick question. As a general rule of thumb after the skull is clean.. 10 mins in the color batch? I think I've heard you say this before but I'm just verifying. Did my first three heads this year! Most of which were cow skulls but I don't quite get how you get them so darned white. I soaked one in a degreaser for a week and another I boiled and bleached the same day. The soaked degreased one turned out much nicer. Not too sure what went wrong on the other one
