Excellent video. Very clear explanation and loved the live examples. My wife and I are getting back into it and being able to easily dehook a fish you know you are not keeping is a big plus . Thanks for doing this .
Super helpful! I’ve always struggled getting hooks out without hurting the fish, the few times I’ve been fishing. Now that I want to get more into fishing, I’m glad I’ve learned about dehooking tools, because they make it easier for the fish and I!
Thanks Captain..glad to see the Arc dehooker is still out there working well and not rusting! Ps. Ziptie a piece of wacky noodle to the handle and you will never watch one sink again.
I had given up on the ARC de-hooker a year ago, even after watching several videos. Your video is so much more clear, I'm looking forward to trying it again. I dread getting a gut hooked fish, and your hints on how to use the ARC with those are the best I've seen anywhere. I have the mid-size ARC.
TY much. I have on my Boat for about a year now. Never used it. Been using another one. Now it's all corroded and fell apart. I was forced to find out how to use this one. Tnx again. Very helpful
Thanks for this video when I was younger and went fishing with my brothers I was by myself and I caught a fish and I tried to unhook it, but ended up slicing or poking me and I was traumatized because I was so young now I have a hooking device, which I’m excited to use that I bought from Walmart
so glad you posted this. I looked into these years ago and gave up. I can see the value for single hooks, especially circle hooks, but what about topwaters or other hard baits? I want to use these dehookers but don't know how to use them for that.
This is really not designed for topwater baits, although I use it on all my other lures. Treble hooks are a real pain to remove and I rarely use them. I have another tool I use for them that looks like this - www.maguro-pro-shop.com/?route=product/product&product_id=7511 It is not the same one I have but very similar. The other one is easier to use with soft plastics
I just found out about this tool today I would love to get that tool. Does it work well with circle hooks and non barbed hooks too ? I have fished a time or two once when I was a sea scout and once when I first moved into Wyoming in 2020. I so look forward to do some fishing.
You can find the 16"larger size here - amzn.to/3Jo3yr0 Right now they do not have the smaller one on amazon but they have this one that looks similar - amzn.to/3brzZse I have not held that one so I cannot say how small the end is. The do not work that well on circle hooks. If I am using those, I use this type of tool - amzn.to/3p78jMF That is the stainless model I have had for almost 20 years. They make cheaper ones like this - amzn.to/3cZF9MC
Can you show how to use this when you are using a lure? I am thinking that the lure body may be too big to fit through the little circle to allow you to slide the dehooker down to the hook itself. Thanks.
I have used them more with lures than anything else. They come in various sizes for different sized lures. The middle one I showed I use for jigheads with tails, soft plastic shrimp, jerk worms, and more.
It is great for fish that have the entire hook in their mouth. You keep both hands together and the fish in the water. Make a small quick downward jab and it will pop out. Unhooked a few today like that. If the fish has it down in the stomach, it's not going to help much.
It can but I find this style more effective with circle hooks - www.tackledirect.com/rapala-hook-removers-rhr1.html. This type does not do as well on J hooks inside or deep in the mouth.
they work ok on plain hooks, they do not work well with soft plastics or flies without potential damage to the lure. In addition, this tool is must faster and easier.
AND WHAT ABOUT THE LARGE ELETRIC EELS FROM AMAZON..............THIS IS A PROBLEM HERE IN BRAZIL..........PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE THE PROPER TOOL TO RELEASE SUCH FISHES...........
Thanks for the pointers. Videos like this can help the novice from being discouraged.
No pain no gain. Best way to learn

Glad it was helpful
This video has probably saved thousands of fish I almost gave up using these!

Have been using mine nearly 20 years and it still works great.

Great video. Very clear. Helpful demonstrations. Thanks from Liverpool, England.
I have an ARC dehooker that I bought 2 months ago. Thanks for the tutorial! Tight lines.
Glad it helped!

That’s ingenious! Thank you.

Suggestion: twist the shank of the tool 90 degrees so it can’t lay flat. That way it will be easier to pick it up.
Thanks. Great video

What about gut hooked fish? Is it useful or just cut line?

does it work with circle hooks?
It can but not as well as this one will - amzn.to/3BiMTT1. I have had one of those for 20 years and still going strong.
How does it work with a trebble hook?
It is not quite as effective with a treble hook.
Mine was home made 😅😅👍
Every guy has needle nose pliers though And works great

This is useless. SHOW ME HOW YOU ACTUALLY DO IT WITH A FISH ON THE LINE. If you're not going to show it with a fish, it's useless.
