Thank you so much for your efford on this video. It helped so much! Yesterday I bought my first floyd rose guitar ever and with your video I manged to change the string gauge, tune it down to D-Standard and set it up properly. Thank you! Keep going on with your videos!
I have a tool-tip for you which might help a lot during the intonation process: the ibanez ejk1000 intonation tool. It is a bit pricey (41€ in Germany but it should be a one-time investment) but it is super precise and the whole intonation took me about 10 minutes. I had to file it a little bit down in order to fit into the notch, but as it is made of aluminum this wasn't a big deal. One big advantage is that you don't need to put out the tension of the string: you put the tool onto the saddle, then intonate, tune the string back to pitch, intonate again... and when the string is perfectly intonated you just tighten the screw of the saddle and remove the tool :)

Thank you for the detailed video! It is almost impossibble the make a video that covers all points of setting up a guitar expecially with a floyd rose bridge. I would add some personal points to the topic: 1. If the nut is too high the main problem is that the notes freted at the 1. and 2. fret will go very sharp, they are usually a bit sharp (you would need tempered nut and tempered frets to avoid this) but with a perfect nut hight it is more torelable. 2. What it really does: if you thingten it it brings the fretboard closer to the strings, if you loosen it it will bring the fretboard away from the strings. The neck it self is usually rockhard maple/mahagony the fretboard is much thinner and usually softer, the truss rod could never put a bow to the whole neck it just adjust the curve of the fretboard, this is why adjusting the truss rod has so little effect on the 1-3 frets and on the 15-24 frets. 3. Micro tilt does what you said and this helps (mostly) to get better action on the 17-24 frets. 4. Exotic string winding is not that important with a locking nut, but I found the best method the "John Carruthers" way, just search for it, it is another way of locking the strings to the tunning pegs. 5. Forget any mesurments. I know this is not really a help for total beginners, but later on you should never ever measure anything on a guitar, just go by feel.

@troylink9118 You are very welcome man!!! I made this video because I got my first electric guitar when I was like 12 years old and it came with a really crappy licensed floyd. Back in the early 90s of course without internet, I was forced to learn this stuff. I just wanted to share it because I want everyone to avoid the pain of playing a guitar that is not setup properly or goes out of tune and things like that
@@alverduratonejunkiealveram1017 I understand, my favorite guitar I got from a pawn shop was a Westone Pantera X300 it was made sometime in the middle 80s, it was set up with the guitar and locking Tremolo system already set up. The guitar was beautiful and ever since I lost that guitar to the pawn shop I got it from I have not been able to find another. The guitar I have now is the Kramer Assault 220 black with the red inlay and trim. I have been trying to get one for about 4 years. I talked to Joel a sales rep at Sweetwater music. He said let me see what I can do. He got back in touch with me and said yes, Kramer stopped producing that guitar but there is 1 at the factory. The last one, I jumped on that right away. I have it and I am setting it up watching you. I am 60 yrs old 34:05 😮and have not played in 20 yrs, I knew one fine day I would be back, even though this is not a high dollar guitar, it should be because it plays so great and I knew it would. The price for one on ebay is crazy. Thanks so much you are very much a big help to so many of us. It is all coming back to me pretty quickly, again Thanks
Thank you very much man for this wonderful description I lost two guitars because they have a problem with the bridge and now I got another guitar and by mistake, I changed the string and never come perfect but when I watched your video it help and I realize I'm going to fix my guitar by my own without being worried about anything so thank you very much.
You're very welcome my friend!!! I know the feeling, I screwed my guitar up when I was 13 years old and took me years to figure how everything actually worked (this was in the early 90s of course, no internet) 🤣. Enjoy!!

Thank you, mate. This is by far the best video I have seen on this subject. Not only do you explain in detail how to perform the set-up, but you also explain why the certain steps are taken and the effect that each step has. Absolutely brilliant video. I am going to subscribe to your channel. Thank you again.
I would have never thought of using posits to block the tremolo. I’m not in short supply of those. It’s amazing how you find out useful information unexpectedly
Al, fantastic job on the entire setup/explanation for a guitar with a Floyd Rose. Greatly appreciate you taking the time and sharing all that you learned in setting up this type of guitar. Now I am going try mine for the first time!!! 🤟🏻
great info and great effort thank you. Must say, its a bit distracting the background music volume as we are also concentrating on your instruction and your slight accent. Really appreciate your concise presentation! It shows why the professionals charge what they do to setup a guitar properly.
Al, This is the most complete tutorial for setting up the Floyd Rose. I am replacing a high "E" bridge saddle because of a cross threaded blocking screw. Lloyd Sarno
I used the awesome information in this video to setup my floyd equipped bc rich warbeast, tuned to drop c. It sounds and plays amazing. I cant thank you enough for the time and effort you put into making this video. Priceless information! 🤟
I just bought a Schecter C1 FRS Platinum that has just about the same configuration as what you're setting up here. This is my first Floyd Rose and the factory setup is a bit off, especially the tension on the bridge. I was pretty stoked to find a detailed video using basically the same guitar! Thanks for this!!!
Thanks so much for this tutorial.. the most detail I found on youtube so far. I usually play more jazz than rock with my semi hollow guitar and sometimes with my stratocaster. Several months ago I bought my first floyd rose guitar online to be able to imitate Satriani's and Vai's style but ended up in frustration about the setting up, apparently, until I found your complete tutorial. Thanks heaps mate... keep the good work.
The best way to figure out how much slack to give the strings at the tuning pegs is taking the string, stretching it out straight, then grabbing it right under the nut and bring it back under the first fret, works every time for me on both that head stock and a one sided one
@IJustWannaSleep1 yeaa that is a cool idea!!! I do it taking as reference the distance of the tuners. Anyway the goal is just that the string ends up with a couple of turns once it is tuned to pitch
@@alverduratonejunkiealveram1017 It was everything i needed lol. Ive been playing guitar for a while now but i just recently got one with a floyd rose. So i got it off him for $700
That was an excellent video. Ive seen a lot of set up videos but you explained things that i didnt know why i was supposed to do certain things. Thank you very much and your english was perfect. I bought a tool to let me do the intonation under string tension that works pretty good so that made intonation easier but i dont know if i can mention the name. Thanks again for your video.

Enjoy!!
Thank You 🙏 so much, sir!!! I have learned so many things about my Floyd Rose system today, and other things that I thought I knew, lol!! Amazing tutorial!!! Stay safe and healthy my friend!! ☮️❤️☮️
Thanks my friend, anything you need just let me know

Thanks for your hard work!!

Thank you! This is an amazing video, the best explanations, although I knew a few things about guitar setup this video thought me so much! I will save this video and, when I'll gather the courage, will start setting up one of my guitars! Thank you!!!

Thanks man, I appreciate it 🙏
Big thanks to this now my problem is solved. Keep it up man
Thanks man, I will!!!!!
Good job brother! Thank you thank you.
It's a pleasure 😊
Thank you, mate. This is by far the best video I have seen on this subject. Not only do you explain in detail how to perform the set-up, but you also explain why the certain steps are taken and the effect that each step has. Absolutely brilliant video. I am going to subscribe to your channel. Thank you again.
Thanks mate!! I appreciate it and I'm glad that it was helpful. Starting 2022 with a fresh setup is the way to go!! 😊. Cheers!
I would have never thought of using posits to block the tremolo. I’m not in short supply of those. It’s amazing how you find out useful information unexpectedly
LOL. Thanks man!! Yeah sometimes is better to use some creativity to solve the problems and not to get stuck in the process.
Wonderful tutorial friend! I liked a lot the illustrations and pics
I appreciate that bro. I hope it's been helpful

Very informative and useful. I only have one suggestion that has nothing to do with the Floyd Rose: locking tuners. Best invention ever.
Thanks bro!!! And yeah, locking tuners are the best, I have some locking grovers on one of my les pauls and they're awesome
Al, fantastic job on the entire setup/explanation for a guitar with a Floyd Rose. Greatly appreciate you taking the time and sharing all that you learned in setting up this type of guitar. Now I am going try mine for the first time!!! 🤟🏻
Thanks buddy!!! Do the setup and let me know if you need anything
great info and great effort thank you. Must say, its a bit distracting the background music volume as we are also concentrating on your instruction and your slight accent. Really appreciate your concise presentation! It shows why the professionals charge what they do to setup a guitar properly.
Thanks brother, I appreciate your comment. And yes, the background music is totally distracting 😄. I wish I could change it or remove it. Sorry ☺️
Really well made video.
Thanks! I hope it helps
Al, This is the most complete tutorial for setting up the Floyd Rose. I am replacing a high "E" bridge saddle because of a cross threaded blocking screw. Lloyd Sarno
Thanks!! I'm glad it was helpful 😊
About time a proper set up video . My Jackson thanks you sir
Yeah!!!! Enjoy my friend
I used the awesome information in this video to setup my floyd equipped bc rich warbeast, tuned to drop c. It sounds and plays amazing. I cant thank you enough for the time and effort you put into making this video. Priceless information! 🤟
Thanks buddy I'm glad you found it helpful!!
You're welcome Buddy! Enjoy the guitar!!!!! I want to get another schecter! 🤣
Such a good video thank you sir
You´re welcome!! I appreciate it and I´m glad it was helpful
great video man. many thanks
Thanks for watching. I hope it´s been helpful
Great instruction.
Thanks!!
It's a pleasure my friend. Enjoy!!!
Best tutorial EVER. Love your work my friend:)
Thanks man!!! I'm glad you find it helpful and hope you set up your guitar the way you want it. Best Regards!
One of best explanations very thorough! Good job thanks.
Thanks dude!
You're very welcome
you are the best!
@@onipepperonni2088 thanks man!! I tried my best 😊
Nice brother. The best i have ever seen.

Awesome video ! Thankyou so much

Incredibly helpful man, greatly appreciate it. I feel like I could apply for guitar tech jobs after watching this video
LOL. I just wanted to show all the things you need to know to setup your instrument
@@alverduratonejunkiealveram1017
It was everything i needed lol. Ive been playing guitar for a while now but i just recently got one with a floyd rose. I also got it off my drummer buddy so it wasnt properly set up.. funny story actually his mom bought him the guitar (dime dean razorback) when he was younger to try & get him to stop drumming but he just loves drums too much lol.

You're very welcome my friend. I'm glad it was helpful
Very nice. Thanks.
You're welcome
Really nice video....👍❤️🎸

Thank you so much Al. Great video, well explained. You saved my guitar!
You're very welcome Cory, I'm glad it was useful. Stay tune for more!
Thank you very much, I've been watching dozens of videos to set up my FR guitar and this is by far the best one, even though it could be even better, but that's just to make a negative criticism. I feel reassured now, and I can safely clean and make adjustments on my LTD MH-401QM FR guitar, thank you, thank you :)
Raaampage thanks bro I appreciate it, that is the purpose of this video. Whatever you need just let me know ok. : )
Thanks Al this was great ... also if it's a bolt on neck make sure the bolts are tight .. and under the nut locks, the nut has 2 screws make sure they are snug too. Rock On ♫ ♫ ♫ !
This video is absolutely incredible, everything so clear, thanks so much 🤘🤘
You're welcome my friend!!!
