Rick Rosas was so proud of Joe ! That he beat all this stuff ' it was hard for Joe because Joe was the PARTY everywhere he went ! Rick said once that when Joe announced what he was going to do ' he did just that ! Just like when Joe said to his parents after he saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan that he told them : THATS WHAT I'M GOING TO DO ! TOO !

Addiction is not a disease. It's direct result of person's action. Disease is something that beyond your control like cancer or influenza or even mental disease such as schizophrenia or depression. By calling addition a disease we are only taking personal responsibility away from the equation other wise how come pedophilia is not a disease? or if it is then why we are taking a "sick" person to jail instead of hospital? By the way before you yell at me I'm not suggesting that addiction and pedophilia are the same since an addict person is not hurting anyone except himself or herself (and I'm talking direct physical harm). I'm also not suggesting that since addiction is not a disease an addict person should not receive a help. My point is that like everything else in life the first step of overcoming a problem is to finding out the root cause of the problem and if you don't want to be brutally honest with yourself you're not talking a good first step. That's all.

Well spoken there Dusty. I have been trying to convey the same idea ever since this "DISEASE" excuse started invading our televisions. Like you I would gladly want to help hose who sought it. Those who did seek help, and were serious about the effort have my support. This "disease" nonsense is just an excuse. By that logic we should not have killed Hitler or Bin Laden because they must have had a disease also.

It's called a disease because it is an ongoing, chronic, potentially fatal condition that must be treated for the entirety of an addicts life if he is to remain sober, and alive. Some people can only party on weekends, and/or in moderation, but once an addict starts he can't stop. Most addicts don't just wake up one day after x number of years using and decide to stop and go back to living normally. There are certain things that they must do regularly to stay sober. Like other diseases, sobriety must be maintained in order to keep it at bay. And as far as saying addicts only hurt themselves, your forgetting how family, friends, and society are affected.

That's incorrect, addiction is most certainly a mental illness. Don't confuse it with "chemical dependence" which is a result of the symptoms. Only a person who doesn't understand the illness; someone who does not struggled with this disease, or someone still suffering in their addiction would share your opinion. I guarantee you that 100% of addiction survivors, successful in recovery will tell you it's a disease. If they had not come to understand this, they simply would not have recovered. They would suffer until they die from it. The official consensus of medical and mental health experts is that addiction is a primary disease, meaning it not the result of choices, lifestyle, or a symptom of other illnesses often found in association such as depression or anxiety. If you know anyone suffering from addiction, please don't share your erroneous opinion with them. They likely already think this way, and it's half the reason they can't recover. Good intentions aside, your advice could only lead them to continued suffering and an eventual death from this disease.

To add some more perspective to your statement, let me inform you that by your own definition of "disease", heart disease, type 2 diabetes, ulcers, high blood pressure, std's, strokes, many forms of cancer etc..etc..would not be diseases because they are the result of lifestyle choices or personal decisions and actions.
