KLEAN | HOW TO HAVE FUN AT HOLIDAY EVENTS... SOBER
kleantreatmentcenters.com/how-to-have-fun-at-holiday-events-sober
HAVING FUN AND BEING SOBER
Many of us drink so we could be the life of the party. We can operate without fear, dance like no one is watching, and talk to just about anyone. When you take away the drugs and alcohol, what is to be left of our social life? This is an especially important topic when the holidays roll around. Work events and Christmas parties can make us feel awkward and out of place. Here are our tips to have a fun time at social events without having to get wasted to do so.
TIP #1: ALLOW YOURSELF TO HAVE A GOOD TIME
allow-yourself-to-have-funYou’ve heard all of the advice about driving your own car and getting water to drink, leaving at the first sign of being uncomfortable. However, ask yourself, are you allowing yourself to have a good time? Of course, you do not want to stay in a situation that is unsafe, but think about it this way - you have an opportunity to have a redo of a lot of things in life. Were you really the life of the party when you were falling down drunk in the corner? Or better yet, what about the times you didn’t even go because you didn’t want to deal with seeing anyone? Now, you get a chance to be a part of life again.
TIP #2: DON’T BE A WALLFLOWER
sober-at-partyGuess what: you can still dance sober, you can still laugh sober, and you can still talk to people sober. The only thing stopping you is fear. I heard a great thing once - this woman was saying she was embarrassed to dance in front of people sober. She was afraid of what she must look like. Her friend replied back, “Oh honey, you must not realize what you looked like dancing drunk!” I thought that was great. The truth is - who cares? Talk to people. Mix and mingle. You can even dance or play pool or sing karaoke. You may feel self-conscious at first, but you will get over that. And the best part? You’ll remember it all.
TIP #3: REALIZE YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY SOBER ONE THERE
holdays-sober4
While it may seem crazy to an alcoholic or addict, believe it or not, there are lots of people who do not drink at social events. Maybe they are driving home, maybe they do not like the taste of alcohol or maybe they want to have control of their faculties and do not like the control they lose when they drink. No matter the reason, you are most certainly not the only sober one in the room, although it may feel that way at first. That’s because you are still used to finding your comrades - those who drink like you. Those are the people you used to gravitate toward. Now, they are hard to be around and remind you of what you can’t do. Start looking for and noticing the people without a drink in their hand. These people who you didn’t give the time of day before will probably become your close friends.
Have fun at holiday events this season, and try something new. Put yourself out there and get through the fear, and you’ll see you can have fun at holiday events, even sober.

    One of these guys nearly got himself killed today. I drive a bus and I heard the group coming up behind me. I signalled and got to the right of the slow lane. That’s when one meat head passed me in the breakdown lane, nearly breaking my windshield with debris from the road side, a moment after I realized he was there.

    Great interview. I'm a huge fan of Joe's. The part about fear is so accurate and relatable as an addict. It gets to a point where you're afraid to do pretty much anything sober. Simple stuff like checking your phone messages or email brings with it a sense of dread. Not necessarily for any particular reason other than you don't want to find anything that's gonna make you have to get sober. It's a horrible place to be.

      You ain`t kiddin SuperStrik. I would have a ton of never opened bills and unanswered calls. I have 14 yrs now and it still is a problem, because now I CARE about the mess unpaid bills can be. I went to A.A. before getting sober for a while. Every time I left after the meeting I wanted to go right to the bar and after a few beers me and a buddie would drive into the Bronx (15 min. drive) and cop dope and coke and jab speedballs in our veins for the rest of the night. Fast track to hell. I now avoid all A.A. completely. I hold a 4th Dan BB in Hopkido(from my late teens and early 20`s, so I am currently taking Krav Maga. Yup, my 56 yr old ass don`t dig all of the kicking in Hopkido, hence K.M. Cheers to you my good man!! Fair winds and following Seas.

    I find it so ironic that the drugs given to anxious patients, do exactly that...sedate them (which is counter productive if the patient is to heal! He/she must feel the pain, etc., and be the observer for as long as it takes as long as the feelings occur in order to get rid of them so they don’t get stuck in the body & wreak havoc there)...almost & sometimes...to death, unless they come off! Then that is a whole new world of hurt & hell that no one in the US but Mad in America ever addresses! And none or very few are ever MDs from the US! It’s always the UK, Germany & Belgium, from what I’ve seen. I’m coming off a Benzodiazepine I was prescribed for anxiety after about 24 yrs ago...now 30 straight years this time around. Man, does withdrawal suck! I had to learn from the now, late, Dr. C. Heather Ashton, Psychiatrist & Psychopharmacologist’s The Ashton Manual & The Harm Reduction Guide to Coming off Psych Meds by Will Hall, Benzo Buddies, etc. on FB to learn how to turn my pills to liquid so I could come off slow enough without killing myself, esp, since coming off safely is not taught to Med students & my PCP is an APRN! I’m glad to be half off, but I most certainly could write a book about this process & experience already! MDs should always check to see if these patients have the MTHFR gene mutation from one or both parents, where they can’t break down folic acid to folate to utilize Vitamin B12 = anti anxiety benefits, et. al.! But sadly, they never do. As this issue could be fixed by administration of folate or active B12! But...then, the drug co.s would lose $$. 🙄 Too bad we can’t have a revamping of the whole damnable system!

  • @cynthiaennis3107
    @cynthiaennis3107 2 роки тому

    Oh please! There are more horrible chemicals allowed in US products & foods than in any other country to make the pharmaceutical co.s even richer! Big business runs America. How greedy is enough? Will they ever have enough $$ so they can stop poisoning Americans with the junk in food, drugs in cigarettes, chemicals that are class 3 on the chart of how deadly a chemical is, ad infinitum?? You can bet your last dollar that the makers of these chemicals wouldn’t allow their own children to have these harmful chemicals in any form! All the foreigners who come to the US to live are aware of this! Why they come here, I don’t know!

    It is not a 'disease'.. its a choice. The vast majority of people who do drugs or drink, etc is because either its been in their everyday environment like watching parents do it or friends peer pressure push it. I've never done drugs once.. not even pot. Also never had anything stronger than beer and on average 1 bottle a month. Why? I never was surrounded with lowly people who did it or cared what they thought of me when offered and I say 'no'.. The only 'disease' there is involves weak character and desire to fit in.. But much easier to give the addict a cop-out that its not their fault.. nope.. its a 'disease'..uh huh

  • @Susquehanna80
    @Susquehanna80 2 роки тому

    She's full of bleep.. Despise people who try to rationalize and justify pot use as not the same.. Its like an alcoholic looking down on those who are addicted to beer because they're drinking fancy wines.. same thing and she's as much a loser as those who do the heavier stuff
