@@TrashJack3000 This makes a lot of sense in-universe, since the originally planned lore behind turrets was that they started out as vending machines/dispensers that were a little too… _enthusiastic_ in dispensing their products to customers - and instead of _fixing_ it, Aperture just repurposed them as turrets. @@AR-yd2ndI think this is just a joke like the footage of them filling in the bullets. Or maybe it's like the double projectile bullets they used back in spitfires but where the second bullet is the casing.

I love the "Perpetual Testing Initiative" because the joke has been made so many times in so many forms. It's like the problem with the "Pan-Dimensional Gargle Blaster", a take off the fictitious Hitchhiker's Guide drink. In theory a drink which shunts all the hangover and negative stuff to an alternative-universe version of yourself is fine... until you realize that if you're the sort of person who would drink it then so would about every other version of yourself and probably at the same time as you do. Similarly, if Cave Johnson has no problem with making other Cave Johnsons pay to research and build products which don't even work properly in their home universes... it explains a lot about what we're seeing in this one.
0:41 "We have always done things the way my father did and his father before him and his father before him and his father before him" *Laughs* "And we are almost bankrupt" *MEGA LAUGH*
“Cave Johnson, we’re done here.” 😂 A live action movie or series within the portal universe would be awesome. Not even the main story, just stories of other test subjects trying to escape Aperture and even old footage of subjects over the decades.
I'd kill for a seriously well-made series where ratman is the main character and the show sometimes has flash-forwards in time (the opposite to a flashback) where we see things that have been influenced in the future at various points in the story (whether by ratman himself or otherwise).
The Multiverse one is the lore of the community maps In every map you play as an intern testing the tests made by the alternative universes, encountering different versions of Cave Johnson from different timelines
The first video, "Perpetual Testing Initiative" was added into the game after release, when Valve created the level editor and added the Community Test Chambers into the game. Before that, it was _technically_ possible to create your own maps with the official Source Engine map editor, share them via online modding websites, download other people's maps and manually install them into the game folder - but it required a lot of technical knowledge and skill on your part. Now it was conveniently part of the game in a streamlined form, and they made that video as an in-universe explanation for the existence of community-created test chambers. I believe this is where the Steam Workshop originally came from, which gives game developers a convenient infrastructure for supporting mods and other user-generated content.
2:20 If you want to be P-body (the one that's dancing), then Caleb will have to host the game, meaning he needs to send the invite to you instead of vice versa. 3:56 I still remember when this trailer came out. I didn't have Portal, but I wanted the game so much (I watched it on UA-cam). Then I saw this trailer, and I completely lost it. Great memories.
I recommend playing/watching Aperture Desk Job. It was released recently alongside the Steam Deck and is a prequel to Portal but expands upon the story of Cave Johnson.
it's not really canon... I mean, the Perpetual Testing Initiative proves that the multiverse exists so maybe it's canon in *some* place but not the current timeline of events.
You should also listen to “You Wouldn’t Know” and “Don’t Say Goodbye,” if you still want a little more Portal. Both are GLaDOS songs, the first is from the Lego Dimensions game, and the second was cut content from Portal 2.

There's whopping 30 minutes of Cave Johnson monologue lines on perpetual testing. Absolutely hilarious, if you liked the jokes in Portal 2. There are compilations of these voice lines you can find on youtube.
the super 8 interactive teaser was the result of an initiative between Valve and JJ Abrams to create interconnected games and movies together that eventually fell through. if it had worked out, we'd have Half-Life and Portal movies.
Btw, there is a secret trailer called "Pneumatic diversity vent", those are the tubes you see everywhere in the actual game, but they are never used as test elements like the trailer shows
Yeah, you definitely should check out the song “Don’t Say Goodbye”. It was cut from Portal 2 but it’s a good song that expresses more of GLaDOS thoughts to a degree. Depending on how you look at it.
