Magnus holds Ding at a very high regard, and I believe a world championship between the two would be phenomenal!
In reality Magnus would definitely be the favourite, no matter the opponent. He's number one, has been for a long time and is a full 60 rating points ahead of his closest rival. Not to mention his form has been excellent recently.
Ding had ice in his veins for that first game. Two rooks a queen and bishop all pointing at his king and he goes on the offensive to create a passed pawn. Absolutely insane

He wasn't banned for his nationality. Ian Nepomniachtchi is Russian and he's playing in the Candidates. Sergei Shipov is also Russian and they didn't ban him even after deliberation. Karjakin was banned for violating the FIDE code of ethics.
