It's a good reminder to have.
We used to consider engines stronger when they had the opening libraries loaded (i remember the older fritz playing book moves until move 30+ when playing against itself), but since engines are nowadays used to study newer (and better) lines in openings, they really redefine what is best theory in openings

Glorify Undefinable, The Answerer or The Stabilizer of Worlds
Controllers of Body, By eternal Existence rely to Undefinable alone, be Serene and judge by how Matter executes! The Identity can exist in every possibility!
Ask guidance and things You can't get to The Answerer, THAT allowed You into this body, THAT gave truth for clean-minded in Subconscious, and avoid numbness!
All ways looked in depth mentions Lord of Existence, and don't use what is unknown, until You will understand it! Shape Your own makings, and You will be supported!
Blessed is Controller of Man united with intuition and subtle joy! That relies to The Originator alone, That chooses by the best, That hears brainwaves and sees eye pixels!
The life can be mastered, for rules were made simple to Observant! Don't be fearful of destiny, because We're parts of possibilities, that have freewill with Serenity!
With wonders of DNA nature and fat-stores fasting, be satisfied! Forbid high anti-nutrient, PUFA, synthetic food - allow wheatgrass, fruit seeds and ferment food!
Universe remains to its original law, and don't change adaptable bodies in ignorance! Trial is what evil awaited and good missed!
Challenging are the days of Illusion and a sad burden to anyone that didn't seek independence, no first-cause is miracle-free!
Great are the days of Responsibility that nourish the Soul! We have always existed! Everything is possible, You're in this body!
Simulation theory is insufficient, and lucid dreams are managed by nutritionally sufficient and aware!
The World is created for Observer's favor! Whole Multiverse is in perfection for Purpose! Space is paired and has memory! Current place is special by The Stabilizer!

I'd love to see you play against Stockfish 15 with various handicaps, to see what it takes for you to beat it.
    1) Start with queen odds, and increase the handicap until you win a game.
    2) Then do a round where time control is the handicap - fight S15 with one one *milli*second per move, and see how that goes, maybe cut it further from there. (No time limits on your side, of course.)
    3) Have a round with no handicap, but where you can switch sides with it once, and try to win from its side of the table. (No throwing pieces pre-switch, and no waiting until forced mate - try honestly, and then switch when you think it has a big enough advantage for you to win.)
    4) And of course, for the control group, play against it without any handicaps at all.

If you have a positional advantage against Stockfish 15, the engine will at least draw every game unless there is a forced checkmate, and it doesn't seem like a human could ever pull a forced checkmate situation out of a drawable position that Stockfish wouldn't see coming.
If you start giving Stockfish time limits, you are just making it a worse engine, so you might as well play against the earlier versions.

    @esven9263 Рік тому

I've seen it happen a lot with stockfish at high depth where it seems like the engines are okay with shuffling and then instead decides to trade everything off unnecessarily like the Caro game. It usually coincides with a sudden increase in syzygy hits. This is something I'm sure Gotham already knows but for anyone else reading the syzygy tablebase contains every position with 7 or fewer pieces and if a position exists in the tablebase the engine can tell instantly whether those positions are won, lost, or drawn with no further analysis. Chess is a solved game for 7 or fewer pieces and currently for 8 or fewer pieces and no pawns though the 8 piece tablebase is incomplete and generally considered too large to be practical even in its current state. The positions in the tablebase are worked out by an exhaustively looking at every possible move meaning it has solutions to positions requiring beyond even top engine play. So during endgames when there aren't many pieces on the board stockfish starts seeing a bunch of these endgames it can trade into and knows definitively whether they are won, lost, or drawn. If it currently thinks that the position its in is a draw or cannot make progress but knows it could trade into a position which is also a draw but in which gives the opponent more room to make mistakes it will always go for that line.
This kind of reasoning where it increases bad futures for its opponent is also why stockfish often repeats moves twice for no reason or under-promotes when promoting to a queen would be check. The check would limit the opponents legal moves and make it more likely the opponent will take the queen after promotion which it considers the best move. By underpromoting so that the promotion doesn't come with check there are now more legal moves for the opponent in which they don't play the best move which stockfish evaluates as being slightly better. You see this come up sometimes in puzzles. Anyway I know rambling youtube comments are the worst but I find it interesting how engines see the game sometimes.

The Caro Kann is definitely good enough to hold the draw in engine games. Either response to the advance variation is fine. I've spent a lot of time looking at engine analysis of various openings, and you have to get pretty crazy in the opening to reach a lost position. For example, if you play the Portuguese variation of the Scandinavian defense (1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. d4 Bg4) that's close to losing for black, but I think it still holds. The key there is that black needs to avoid 4. f3 Bf5 which is the main line and appears to be outright losing, and play 4... Bd7 instead. Another example I've analyzed with Stockfish: In the King's Gambit Accepted white can hold the draw, either with 3. Nf3 or 3. Bc4 and even 3. Qf3 might be good enough to survive. I'm not saying Stockfish wouldn't lose some games in normal time controls, I'm speaking more from a correspondence (with engine assistance) perspective.

Wow, it's so cool that you posted this video YESTERDAY! Because I just (prior to finding this video) downloaded Lucas Chess GUI and both Stockfish 15 & Lc0 to play eng vs eng tourneys. I'm an average intermediate player (personal games with real friends only, and computer apps at about 3-4 out of 10 strength), I don't "know" ANY openings (past 3-4 moves), and I would really love to learn to be a much better player. In today's super over-saturated chess information age (engines, books, teaching apps, etc.), which I own several, I just don't know where to start!
And as a side note, I've always wondered how higher level players can analyze games and seeming fully understand almost every single variation possible (like you explain in your super in-depth videos). For example, I tried my best to follow what you were saying where white's position was over (3:46), but I simply couldn't see it. Similarly to when a high level player or engine play what seems to me to be a completely random response to one of my moves - I can't ever figure out the "theory" behind that!
I also just installed my ancient copy of Chessmaster 11 Grandmaster Edition which has some awesome graphics and quite a bit of teaching material, and just began reading Jeremy Silman's How to reassess your chess 4th edition, but I would greatly appreciate your advice (and even help if offered) on how to properly study, learn and improve. I just retired, so time is on my side...

I love these engine videos. So incredible to see how chess is played at a level FAAARRRR beyond human ability. And as always your commentary is what really makes the video entertaining and enjoyable.
