I love that Deidre has no problem with saying she hates James because he's English but she draws the line at hating on James because he's "gay". She has her priorities well set
true that
"If anything, the gay thing kinda cancels out the English thing."
"Again. There is no gay thing."
😁😁 Poor wee English fella.
That is irish people, we couldn't care less except if your English

Michelle blaming James for England's crimes is so friggin funny
quietastronaut I thought everyone Irish (and those pretending to be Irish) did that anyway?
Simon Turner Well I’m English and every Irishman I have met so far have been nothing but nice to me. I’ve always wanted to visit Ireland!

@@catpainblackudder01 Thanks for the sarcasm
@@ladyfoxwf1075 Do you know why the grass is so green in Ireland?
The “VS” in the title implies that it’s anything more than Michelle metaphorically kicking the lifeless corpse of James on the ground. It’s not.
Captain Biscuit omg
Underappreciated comment.
Oof
It has “vs” on the Joe and Gerry one and that’s equally one sided!
I know I’m late af but this comment made me HOLLER with laughter
"Could you move over James, I can't see past your massive closet"
I absolutely lost it at that line, brilliant
Bloody brilliant line nearly wet myself laughing
Can you explain it please. Im don’t get it?
@@setamakoto means James’s gay
I love her little smirk after haha
James says he's not gay and Michelle's comment about his closet is referring to him not admitting to being gay 'coming out of the closet'
Poor James. Ethnically Irish but culturally English. Utter hell.
Evolved for short lol...
My life story right there.... But try having an English accent and spending half the year in Donegal and the other half in America
Hannah Em No harm to ye but hows that a bukn trial.
His step dad is English. I'm guessing his biological father is probably Irish.
Penny for my thot his mother went to England to have an abortion, meaning she got pregnant in Derry
In interviews, Dylan Llewellyn - the actor who plays James - has said that he has actually struggled with some of the Irish accents on set early in the show, which added to James' confusion throughout the series.
Well there's a fine English name for you.
Catubrannos *Welsh. You don’t need to be English to play an English character.
Oisín Mac Cumhaill I reckon that was sarcasm, mate

“hi I’m Michelle’s cousin James”
“why is he making that funny noise”😂
He’s English, Orla, that’s how they talk
😂😂😂
"He was really good-looking, so you have nothing to worry about" LMAO! Poor James, he's quite cute really 😂
I agree, James is adorably cute, but beware the wrath of mouthy cousins!
Areed
INFJ Girl I think he's cute
I think that's the point. He is cute or at least above average but they can't see that through their hatred of the English.
I find it fascinating as an English person of the same age at the time. I had the same hair style as Michelle but not her confidence!
He’s so cuteeee
Shout out to James for being the one to go sit by Clare through Erin's bullshit. They seemed to have a solid friendship from there and it feels important.
Solid friendship like when Claire had no issues kicking James out of the group when Mae comes in.... really solid
@@ventorro8055 that was part of the running gag of James being excluded for being English, not an actual plot point, but okay
I loved when she gave him a thumbs up after he passed his driving test.
As the English cousin I can confirm that that is exactly what it's like
Same with me!
And at the same time we got bullied in English schools for being terrorists because we were Irish.
I’m the only English in my class - I agree
The setting for the show is the 90's, nothing's changed since then?!
@@calsurf21 I'll take "Things That Never Happened" for $400 please Alex

"Is her English not good?"
I love that the parents are cool with hating on him for being English but they’re cool with thinking he’s gay hahaha
Gay ppl didn't write penal laws . English govt did. So makes sense that and if he's gay he wont try anything with orla erin and claire
Literally the opposite of how I imagine Catholics!
I hope to God it’s not the gay thing you’re offended by because I’d be disappointed in ya, E D, I’ll not lie
@@riyapatel6291 it wasn't the English that invaded, it was the Irish that sold their lands (before they were Irish in the first place)
“She went to England years ago to have an abortion and never came back, she never got the abortion either” 😂
I love how they overlooked "the gay thing" on him, but the english thing crosses the line😂
Especially for ireland in those times, just goes to see how much they hated the English 😂😂😂
"never got the abortion either"
this actually looks like a well written, cast and produced show. Why have I not heard about it till now?
Dr Zombie it’s on Netflix!
go watch it. It's way better than 90's of american shows. It doesn't relay on being sexual and crudity (it has some but its mostly wholesome)
It's not well-known outside the UK. Even in the UK you're not likely to have heard about it if you don't watch much Channel 4.
Daisy love this show! Series 2 starts on channel 4 this week
Andrew Smith It’s loved in Ireland too!
"We got the gist. They ran out of spuds, everyone was raging".That sums up the famine quite well, actually!
Caitriona Quigley u spelt Phamine wrong
I don't find over 2 million dying while Brits pigged out on their food hilarious ?.. Pie bellied beer gut bigots !!
+Ellie 26 While the Famine itself is far from funny, the fact that Michelle is so blase and apathetic towards it makes it hilarious!
Donncha O driscoll dont fucking tell me you actually think that's how you spell it
Ellie 26 no one gives a shit you leprechaun
"If your lot had stopped invading us for five fucking minutes there'd be a lot less to read through!"-my favourite quote from Derry Girls
I’m English, and I think this series is brilliant. Finally a show where we get taken the piss out of, its very refreshing
finally a show that we get taken the piss out of? the english get taken the piss out of on plenty of shows here and there lol, this isn't new.
@@terminalfrost3645 Shut the fuck up twat.
@ he has a point though, most British humour is self deprecating so most shows take the piss.
There are actually a lot of shows that take the piss out of us, but I agree it’s refreshing to hear the Irish side of everything (seeing as a lot of things are biased).
@Penny for my thot Huh, feels weird: I usually hear this conversation but about French people
*They ran out of spuds, everyone was raging.*

“I’m a man”

am i the only one who has a crush on james?
No. He’s such a gentleman!😊
"Is her English not great?"
No I do too tbh
Yes
Meee omg the episode where Ukrainian girl wanted him got me omg
My Gran was from Derry. My Grandad was English. He would call her 'His Irish Lady', she called him, 'My English Bastard'. They had eight kids together and a happy, loving marriage. Love conquers all.
Lmao
Class
Was he a masochist? I'd sooner marry Myra Hindly than a Bridget.
James being revolted by fish and chips when he's English is probably the least believable bit of the show.
Yeah, but it was used a mechanism to benignly distance James even further to the margins
Aye as an English fella I'd eat Chippy chips every day if I could 😂
I agree we always had fish and chips on Friday I didn't know it was because mum was a very religious person and never let us eat meat on any Friday not just good Friday most people in England love the chippie they definitely do in my city Liverpool sorry mum I eat meat on Friday apart from good Friday 👍
Honestly, I'm English and I completely agree with him.
As an American man with Irish and Scottish heritage, I can't get enough of fish and chips. Or Jameson for that matter 😂
The actor are in the 20s and 30s. They look so good for playing high school students
I’m not gonna lie Sister Michael is the best person from the whole series 😂
Very true
Everyone is
Yeah she is the best one
Claire's sweet suffering Jesus takes me out everytime😂😂😂😂
The script is pure gold 😂 And bless James, watching his real-life interviews he seems the same as his character
I love that last bit! Everyone else is always angry or rants (I grew up Irish Catholic, so I get that that's just how we speak), but every time gentle James takes the same tone, everyone acts like he's the weird/inappropriate one lol. Yay situational irony!
"What part of me not giving a flying fuck are you struggling with exactly?" 😂🤣😂🤣😂 that's my favourite line from Michelle lol
Series 2 can’t wait
Neither can I

James not “fancying” the food in the chippie has to be my favorite James scene.
0:51 Orla looking behind her for the new male student even though she knows him and he's sitting right next to them XD
When the battles between the Irish and English weren't being fought with guns, they were fought with burns
Kind of a one sided battle really
*spitting* "Yer an emborrisment!!" 😂
Take about twenty min to get past the accents but "Derry Girls" is very funny, funny laugh out loud funny. Congratulations to each cast member and to the writers of the show.
If the cast had mid atlantic accents the show would not have been funny.
@@PatrickKelly-lz3pv Well, Would "Happy days" have been as significant without the Fonz jumping the shark? The premise of these young innocent girls/guy living in and amongst a active civil (potential) war breaks up the laughter with a deep dark somber mood that thankfully, only elevates the humor, like a sling shot... Well at the end when the father gently puts his hand on the son-in-law while they are all stopped horrified around the tragedy unfolding on their TV.

This show is so addictive lol
"They ran out of spuds, everyone was raging"😁
That last bit though. I love James and his expressions. He needs to be protected.

Best show ever.
I wonder if James ever found a loo to use after that episode.
I think he just used the girl's toilets actually - there's a scene in season 2 where he was putting on eyeliner with the rest of them
There is no 'Michelle VS James". There is only 'Michelle bullying James'.
Nicola is amazing. She is literally twice Claire's age in real life.
2:07 LITERALLY the best scene of the whole entire show imo
For me it’s 4:38
I just die everytime michelle is mean to james😂😂😂😂😂😂
I’m Australian and understood everything 100%. I like Derry Girls, Misfits, Father Ted, and Trainspotting mainly because Irish and Scottish cultural references are everywhere in Australia so it’s not foreign to me.
Absolutely LOVE this show, great writing.
I don't know why youtube suddenly started recommending me clips from this show, but i'm happy about it
omg the cranberries at the end was just perfect 😂😂😂
Have to do the best of Sister Michael
Agreed. Her sarcastic retorts to the antics around her are practically a character in themselves!
U Do know they already did one for Sr Michael before they even did this one like?0
Brilliant series
I’m very much looking forward to Michelle having to save face in season 3 after acknowledging that she does In fact love James.
i simply cant believe that anyone can genuinely be this mean to someone.
amazing show
I had to take a break from this show cause my sister told me I started to talk like them 😂
"That's the English for ye....fucking savages". Michelle is class ...😂
Terrific show. American grew up in US and Scot, Irish decent. My son Irish Scot and English decent. I remember hearing about this time in the news and through the music that was coming out of Ireland. I love the humor in conjunction with the fright and seriousness of that time. Best show in a long time.
Is It's the gay thing? LOL
“Don be sach a deck jaymes”
I'm from India.... Though sometimes I don't get a few references, I absolutely love this show...just finished watching the second season.
Absolutely love the series
Poor James
I was schooled in Cork in the seventies, where we'd get the occasional guy with an English accent, whose family returned in a rare bit of reverse migration. But I don't recall any of them getting a hard time over it. Perhaps Cork was too far from the conflict in the Six Counties for English accents to be a big deal.
They ran out of Spuds everyone was raging 2:03 😂

“If anything, the gay thing cancels out the English thing” 🤣
Great line.
This show should have way more episodes than it has. :( I stopped watching it when I only got 1 episode left because I didn't want it to end, and the last season will take way too long to premiere. I need more Derry Girls.
This show is outrageously funny, honestly.
“If your lot had stopped invading us for five fuckin minutes” 🤣 omg on the floor
I am in love with her little spin at 0:47
James needed to stand up to Michelle more. I know she did end up loving having him as a cousin, but if he clapped back more and wasnt such melt, it would have felt more like banter and less like bullying.
I think it was to add to the fact that he was the most rational of the group, further highlighting exactly how dysfunctional they are. Reminds me of Jerry in parks and recreation
this is so relatable
