It's great to be back! What crazy things did you yell out as you gave birth? (Please tell me I'm not alone here :) ) I hope you enjoy our birth story in today's video. For more, be sure to check out my corresponding blogpost dailyconnoisseur.blogspot.com/2018/10/our-birth-story-4th-baby-natural-birth.html Love, Jennifer

the Daily Connoisseur What a wonderful birth story! He’s beautiful and so are you!
My first two were born with an epidural. The next four were natural, then I did use an epidural for my last baby. I identified with everything you shared about having an epidural.
I remember exclaiming“I can’t do this!” Alas, I could. How comforting it is to cling to Philippians 4:13 as you shared. I often relied on 1 Corinthians 10:13 for my labors and other life challenges.
      Blessings to you and yours!

I didn't yell. I sang "come thou font" with baby #2.

I have platelet issues also, so all six of my children were delivered naturally. I get totally quiet. Like pin-drop silent. I don’t speak, yell, or say anything! It totally freaks my husband out!! However, I do love hearing what everyone else is saying in L&D!!

I love that endorphin high right after delivering a baby naturally! It is so incredible. You’ve described it well! I gave natural birth 8 times, and there is always that flood of relief and accomplishment. The baby is the reward! It is really incredible how God designed the process. Glad it was a positive experience for you! ❤️

Thanks for sharing your birth story from 5 years ago! I am 4 months postpartum and very sleep deprived and felt like i needed to watch some of your old videos on homemaking to give me more i came across this. It is oddly comforting because i see how fast the time goes. I may feel like my whole identity is wrapped in being a mom and homemaker but that is impactful and i can grow in those areas just as you have as a professional. Sometime it is easy to forget the greatest impact we have is to our family and our children. What a gift it is to be able to be so intimately able to be in their lives ❤ your videos have made enjoying homelife and creating beauty for my family possible to a new level. Thank you for the blessing over the years! I pray your family is blessed ❤ what a beautiful memory of a beautiful boy, they grow so fast!

Congrats to you and the entire family. I have given birth to 4 children and my opinion is that even if you’re “prepared” it is still very painful. Prayer is always good. Women are so very strong.

I'm in my 60's now, and I've had 5 children. I was in the pilot program for natural childbirth at Marin General hospital with my first child. My sister in law said she could hear me screaming when she got off the elevator on the maternity ward! I'm sure that this is common and I would not feel bad, it hurts like nothing else to give birth but it's so worth it!

Jennifer I loved this video! What a wonderful addition to your beautiful family. When my water broke at 8 am on a Saturday morning we immediately drove to the hospital. This was my first baby so I was so naive as what was to come. I vividly remember sitting up on the bed around noontime watching cartoons in my room, thinking "oh these mini cramps are nothing, this is going to be easy". lol Needless to say 8 hours later I wasn't talking or looking at anything! I had a washcloth over my eyes. lol. I had him naturally around 10 pm. (without the washcloth) Two years later my second son was born in 4 hours. natural as well. I am so grateful as they give me so much joy and feel blessed to have them both today. Love your channel.

I love you for this video. You reminded me my 3 babies. I laughed and I cried as I was watching your experience. Your words are so true!! I too thought I was going to die. I screamed I cant do it let me leave I don’t want ithe baby to come out🤝Oh my God! Dear Jenifer the pain of birth cant be described but it’s true its the most wonderful time of a womans life. It’s a fact for every woman and I strongly believe it’s from God. Ma babies are now 22 20 and 15 but those moments are so clear and vivid in my mind as if they have happened an hour ago.You are so sweet God bless you and your family 💝💐

Thank you for this very real account. I have to giggle that you said, "well of course I'm not going to swear while I'm giving birth." :)
I am 31 and newly pregnant with my first. I made the decision a while ago that I would like to forgo as many medical interventions with childbirth as I can -- within reason. So I have been diving in and trying to learn whatever I can about unmedicated birth. Everything I have heard, watched, and read tells me that preparation is your biggest friend. Warm water in the shower, frequent repositioning to open your hips and labor down before pushing, counter pressure on your back/hips are a few popular techniques. They say you must surrender to the intensity, "riding the waves" of the contractions one at a time. I have heard it described as a completely spiritual and/or religious experience. Glad that you had a safe delivery and are doing well! Love your channel!

Jennifer, thanks for your story and your honesty. I have had 5 natural childbirths, no pain meds at all. Even with preparation, natural childbirth classes, breathing techniques, etc, the pain was still so intense. I’m sixty now and still remember it vividly lol. Never had an epidural so I was very alert, but very hard to get through the pain. Babies are so totally worth it, but getting through the pain is still incredibly difficult. May God bless your beautiful family.

You are NOT alone, two natural births here and in the last stage I was also screaming things like "I´m going to pass out! I can´t do it! Never again!" - I couldn´t help myself, I felt in a weird transition state of mind, the pain was so intense. And after that the immediate feeling of relief - I know what you are talking about. But it is worth it. Birth is truly a miracle.

I can relate to your story so well! I have five kids and have had two epidurals, 2 natural births and the last one had to be a c section. One epidural I went from 4 cm to a 10 in about 20 min and was actually pushing during the epidural. It was weird. The epidural didn’t have time to even work. The nurses never suspected I would progress so quickly. I did find that delivering naturally seemed easier in a way because I could work with my body better. I still think of the severe burning sensation though! I also had gestational diabetes during the last three pregnancies and I didn’t gain much weight either. It’s kind of a bonus I guess of the strict eating plan. I’m sure your girls are in heaven. My daughter was nine when I had one of my younger boys and she was such a great help! I’m glad things went well for you!

Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. My birth story was not very chic, it was more raw. It's so nice to know that things don't always go as planned esp. in regards to children, but they do always go how they are supposed to. Every woman's story is unique and beautiful. So happy for you and your expanded family! God bless you all!

He is just beautiful! And all that hair!! Thanks for sharing your story. I really enjoyed it. I also had an "accidental" non epidural birth and it was shocking...the pain, the waters mess...the being able to get to the bathroom on my own after. The next time I was more prepared for the pain and because I knew what to expect and had figured out some tricks to help with the pain it was way less scary! Congratulations and God's blessing. Hold that baby a lot and kiss those little cheeks!

I had a very quick labor and delivery. Once I got to the hospital I had my son within 2 and a half hours. This also means there was no time for an epidural and I was having back labor so the pain was even more intense than normal contractions. I was definitely screaming. There was NO WAY I could simply breathe through that pain. I was screaming at the nurses "Help me!" "Help me!" because the pain was just so bad. The good news is that it wasn't so terrible that I never had any more kids. My daughter was a much longer labor but so much easier and WAY less painful. Every pregnancy and birth is different. I'm glad your little man is here. He is just precious!

Congratulations!! I really enjoyed hearing your beautiful birth story.
I agree with everything you said😊 I had a hospital birth w/epidural with my daughter. Almost 5 years later, I changed a lot. I had a home water birth w/no epidural (obviously), with my son.
It was so amazing, & extremely painful, lol.
I honestly feel that natural birth is God’s plan for women. Having to relax (in order for your body to release/open up for baby to come out), through that much pain... Wow, what preparation for life.
Blessings to you & your sweet family.❤️

Hi Jennifer! I loved hearing about your birth story and seeing your precious sleeping baby at the end! I have also had one birth with an epidural and one without. My second child was almost born in the car on our way to the hospital, and when I was told it was too late for an epidural, I thought, uh oh, this is going to hurt!!! Lucky, I pushed about 1.5 times and my daughter was born. I definitely agree that my recovery without the epidural was much quicker, and without any complications. Congrats again to you and your family!!!

Oh, Jennifer, I so enjoyed hearing your story! :) When you said, "I'm going to die!" I literally started laughing and crying at the same time, because I know exactly what you were talking about. I've had all five of our babies (including the twins) without pain medication, and I just felt like I was WITH you as you were telling your story. Hugs! You made it! :) I love the Bible verse that you repeated to yourself during labor - such an encouragement! And THAT is just the kind of thing I would have done to prepare for labor, so you were perhaps more prepared than you thought. ;) And I agree - giving birth without the medication is amazing. I would do it all over again, even with the I'm-going-to-die pain, because it's WORTH feeling every little incredible thing my body is doing to birth that baby, as well as the euphoria after the birth. Ah! I haven't had baby fever much lately, but how funny that talking about LABOR makes me want another baby! Haha! Crazy. :) Thank you for the lingering glimpse at your sleeping son at the end. He is a beautiful boy, and I'm so very happy for you, my friend!

Hi Jennifer! Congratulations again on your sweet new baby. I enjoyed hearing your story so much, especially learning that even the chicest of women can become agitated during delivery-what a relief to the rest of us! I appreciate your candor and humility so much-thank you.
One time I prepared for an epidural-free labor, but I still arrived at a moment when I said, “I can’t do it.” My wonderful nurse got right in my face and said, “But you ARE doing it!” That moment actually changed my life; whenever I encounter a moment of extremity and I think, “I can’t do it,” I remember that nurse’s wise words and realize I am probably already overcoming that struggle and doing really well. After that moment the labor got easier because I could push. It was the best experience once it was done, but boy was it hard in the middle! Thanks again Jennifer, and happy recovery!

OMG I'm cracking up listening to your birth story. You are so adorable....now I say this having delivered my babies natural with plenty of preparedness by my midwives back in the early 80's. And I must agree with you having natural bIrths is FABULOUS!!! After each birth I feel like within moments I jumped out of bed & was ready to go home. It's intense & yes you do feel like you're going to die but then you're done!!!! And I did swear....sad to say but actually I thought I swore & screamed & was told I didn't but was quiet. Idk if I believe that but....I have to say yours was the best birth story & thank you for a great chuckle. Oh & CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Hi Jennifer, congratulations to you and your family. I have 2 children, both of them delivered with no medication and I thought I was going to die too. The thing is that these feelings are natural for no medication labors and although I read about it and I knew it might happen to me as well the feeling that I was not able to continue and I was going to die was just so so strong. Majority of women in natural labor have the same or similar feelings when they are just seconds/minutes before the baby is born... You dont have to feel ashamed of it because it is just natural:)

I clung to the instruction I received for natural childbirth that said something like the pressure of the baby's head would result in a numbing of the sensation -- I kept reminding myself over and over of that: "The baby's head will make me numb, in a minute I'll be numb, I'll be numb, I'll be numb" but then suddenly the baby was here! LIke you, I had so few pushes -- what an experience. Same with both babies! I loved being so aware of everything!

I’m glad it all turned out so well for you and your family. Yes, natural childbirth does involve lots of prep work! I know from experience ❤️

Jennifer! First off, congratulations on your new born! I can totally relate with your birth story!!! I pretty much had the exact same thing happen to me with my fourth baby. Exact same thing, I remember feeling the worst pain I have ever experienced specially when I was pushing, my baby also wasn’t coming out and it seemed like forever before she finally came, I was agreeing with you and saying, “that’s exactly how I felt” the whole time I was listening to your story!
I’m so happy for you and your family. Our children are our greatest blessing from Heavenly Father and they are worth all that pain! ❤️😉
Happy to see you back, you look wonderful!!🌸

I laughed out loud at your "I am going to die" moment too! I had five natural births, no epidurals. I have to say we are all just so different. I never had the intensity to the degree you describe. My midwife had to warn my back up "If she says she is going to push, you won't believe her, but do!". I like to think I remained "poised" during childbirth and even wore a cute dress during the birth (it went in the garbage but I wanted to wear something cute...Madame Chic might agree;)

You mentioned family vlogs & I just had to recommend (again) Our Tribe of Many! They’re a large homeschooling family & are such a joy to watch! I also really enjoy the Boye Family Jewels. If you decide to take the plunge you can count on me as a viewer!

Jennifer, this came up in my suggestions recently. I want you to know I watched it two years ago, pregnant with my first child. I almost threw up and had a panic attack after watching 😂 I’m grateful though because I realized that I need to prepare for birth without an epidural, just in case. That preparation helped me tremendously. ❤️

It hurts! I can relate to your description of your pain! Women have known that since the beginning of time so I don’t think you’re scaring anyone to the point that they won’t want to go through it, although that’s kind of you to be concerned. Thank you for sharing your experience, Jennifer.

Jennifer, giving birth is...overwhelming without the epidural. I don’t remember the pain, but I do remember that period of pushing when I felt completely overwhelmed. I so identified with your experience.❤️

Aww! Thanks for sharing, Jennifer! Your son is precious! And yes, there are some techniques for natural birthing though even when I was “prepared” and during labor for #2, I was still saying things to my husband like “why am I doing this!?!” during those tough contractions! You are amazing and I’m thrilled for you and your family!!! I’m pregnant with #3 and I love seeing how you guys are doing life as your family is growing.

Congratulations Jennifer! Your so funny ,and you look amazing for just two weeks post baby!!!! Oh how I remember having my son 35 years ago like it was yesterday, as well as my daughter 16 years ago. Two completely different experiences. My son I was in natural labor for 27 hours. I looked like a crazy long haired ( all tangled) girl when he finally came into this world. Doctors had to break my water ,and I remember so clearly the Doctor at Kaiser SF , coming in the following morning and saying to me, " oh your still here". I was sooo very upset and being so young I yelled ,"get her out of here "LOL. By that time, I had been having contractions 3 minutes apart for about 7 hours and would not take the epidural , my lips were bleeding because I would bite them EVERYTIME I had a contraction, and I was barfing LOL! Then 16 years ago at the mature age of 41 I had my girl at Stanford Children's hospital. Woke up, water bag broke in the toilet all nice and neat, took a shower put on make up, my prettiest dress and socks. Took pictures ,and off to the hospital I went. I got my first contraction on the way to the hospital and WHOA! I only had 6 contractions and was dilated to 10. Then the worst, they lost her heartbeat. EMERGENCY C-SECTION! Her umbilical cord was wrapped around her arm and leg like the number 8. I was so scared, it happened so quick . When I heard her cry, I remember I cried because of the relief I felt. Praised the lord. They showed her to me and she looked like a porcelain doll. The C-Section was an exhausting experience. The healing process was took so long. Here I am with , a 35 year old son getting married in 2019, and my girl who has turned out to test as a genius ( oh that's a challenge). They are both kind, loving, smart and classy kids. I raised both of them myself. I'm a proud woman. Thank you for sharing your birth story. He is just BEAUTIFUL as all the children are , and I especially loved the picture of all 4 of them having a Sleepover! God Bless you and your family darling! 👏🏼👏🏼🙋🏻

All the best on your sweet new baby. Your story about screaming when you were pushing reminded me of my own experience. It was 30+ years ago and my 2nd baby who was coming very fast. I started yelling and the nurse actually told me to shut up, her exact words. I was embarrassed and did Back then childbirth without medication was pretty common.

Lol, I was calm until 8cm and then all hell broke out. I was screaming so loudly that i saw the nurse shoving a bunch of towels under the door.:) Sure hope they weren't giving any tours of the labor and delivery unit that evening. I also feel like I had an out of body experience. Like Labored in a bed by the door but when I actually gave birth my bed was actually near the window, the bed didn't move I just have momentarily lost my mind. LOl, all was well in the end and now that baby girl (#4) is a labor and delivery nurse !

I think he looks like you Jennifer. I don't have any children myself, but I think if anyone would be an ideal Mom it would be you. Your children and Husband are very lucky to have you.

Oh, I so loved this video and hearing your birth story. I had a similar experience with my second birth. I showed up at 8 centimeters and so it was all natural for me! Once I got past the pain, the rush of empowerment and energy I had was amazing. I agree too that the recovery was much better! There are definitely pros and cons for sure, but I am glad I ended up going natural for my second birth. I did hypno-birthing as well which really helped, and it is not nearly as weird as it sounds. The hypno-birthing exercises are a great pain management tool. Congratulations Jennifer! He is a little angel. I'm so happy for you and your family.
