Go to the ant, thou sluggard! :) Thank you for joining me for today's video. For more, visit my corresponding blogpost dailyconnoisseur.blogspot.com/2018/07/how-to-be-efficient-my-best-tips.html Love, Jennifer
the Daily Connoisseur love the KJV! I discovered recently that the worker ants are FEMALE, which wasn't known until fairly recently, so the king James is correct in referring to the ant as 'her'. Other versions call the ant 'it'. I started home educating over twenty years ago but I am writing all your tips down. We never stop learning.x
It is a blessing to see a younger woman embracing being a wife, mother and home manager, to do it well and to find it a joy. As an older woman, I am in a different season of life with health limitations. I am not able to work as many hours each day as I used to. So efficiency is very important to me, I must be organized and disciplined about getting my responsibilities done when I am well. Then on the bad days, when I am only able to do minimum, my house does not fall apart. If my house is tidy, my laundry kept up, a meal plan in place, I can have the slow, low days once in a while and not feel overwhelmed. I have also found things to accomplish when I have to sit a lot, write letters (and emails), crochet, sort drawers, do paper crafting, etc. Thank you, Jennifer.
Carolyn Maves Hi Carolyn. Thanks for posting this comment. It sounds like our situations are similar. Now that I'm older & widowed, I find it more difficult to stay organized & stick to a routine. When something fun to do pops up, I want to drop everything & do it to be spontaneous & "embrace" life. BUT, then I get annoyed with myself when I let things go & things start piling up around me. That's where I am right now, & I don't have the energy to go at it & stay at it "to the end." Have you created a schedule for yourself? If so, I'd sure like to see if it would work for me. Thanks again!
Getting up before everyone is a GAME CHANGER. I am not a morning person, but I needed some alone time and I needed to get into a routine again of doing a devotional. So I started waking up a half hour before my family. Well, then my kids started waking up half hour earlier lol. Eventually waking up at around 5:30 a.m. works. You don't need an alarm clock after a while. But what did help in the beginning was when my alarm clock went off I bent my knees upwards. Eventually that would keep me awake so that I got up. If I don't wake up early, my day is a little "off" and I'm definitely not as productive. I just discovered your channel and I love it!
Years ago when I first had my treasured twins, I was tired & a little down. A doctor mentioned to me that I could wake up earlier than they did, so that I wouldn't associate "I had to get up because I had twin babies". It was the beginning of enjoying my new life with children. I took care of myself first and then had the mental capacity to take care of others after. Most days this worked & of course, sometimes they were up early. Then we just stuck with our routine & expectations for the day. I found if I expected & scheduled a routine, that is how my daughters felt most secure. It's amazing how planning & goal setting really do work!
Right. I feel as though many mothers don't realize that there is a free babysitter for them daily and that is waking earlier than your children. Sleeping late never worked for us. The kids knew and stayed up super late just because I was up
Thank you for your help! I grew up without a mother figure so your work here has been a huge blessing as I am raising two young ladies. A million thank yous, Jennifer! 🙌🏼
Oh my goodness, I am SO THANKFUL I found your channel!!!! I have been PRAYING for the Lord to help me be more productive, efficient, and better at scheduling my day. I just had my 3rd baby in March, am starting to homeschool my oldest this fall, we are about to move across the country, and my brother passed away on Father's day in a tragic accident. To say I haven't been efficient lately is an understatement. I had cut tv for years, but added it in these past few months and WOW, I hate how little I am getting done!! Thank you so much for these videos. I can't wait to get your books. God bless you in your worthy endeavors!
Love! This channel is not a waste of time. I appreciate her concise and enjoyable way of speaking and presenting ideas. Thank you, Jennifer, for all the videos (I've got a lot of catching up to do!!) I love that there are women who relish being homemakers. We are a rare breed...
As Gretchen Rubin says, "The days are long, but the years are short." I'm not in the same stage of life as you, but I am inspired by your example of setting your priorities in alignment with your values, and it is good to be reminded that being efficient can help save time to savor the good moments. One tip I have for traditions comes from my job as a second grade teacher: I remind my students (and myself!) that nothing lasts too long - good or bad. Hate spelling? Don't worry, it's almost math time. Hate writing? Don't worry, we have a science experiment coming up.
HI Jennifer, Love the scripture and all of the "right on" tips! All my life I wanted nothing else but to be a Mom and homemaker. I got to retire early (52) and I just laugh at all the comments like "aren't you bored?" Are you kidding?! Home is where it's at as far as I'm concerned! So many wonderful things to accomplish! Happy week. Cheryl :-)
I had to look and see if I wrote this comment! I had friends I envied because they didn't work outside the home as I never got to do that. They thought I was crazy. Some 40+ years later and still working, I still envy SAHM. TFS
Jennifer, this is the life many women led as I was becoming a young woman. I am at the "tail-end" of the baby boomer generation. Many women were still homemakers, wives, and that was the mainstay of their lives. I loved it as well. I never understood when times changed and women no longer felt fulfilled maintaining a lovely home-regardless of your means-making this home "you." Having children and raising children so you were the key influence in their lives. When they went back to work, the thought of "latch-key kids" always kind of hurt my heart. Moms are missing out, and for sure, kids were missing out. No judgement, but I do understand so dearly how you feel. You are doing a beautiful job before the Lord. I love you are teaching God's word to your children, and explaining to them through the example of the ant, the value of preparation and work!
Thank you for these great tips! Here's my favorite scripture for motivation: Proverbs 13:4: The lazy person has his cravings, yet he has nothing, but the diligent one will be fully satisfied.
I hardly ever watch TV and have dropped all but You Tube and Instagram for social media. I feel so much better and find I am able to fit in what needs to be done and have time for things I really enjoy! One thing that is helpful for me is a list I made for my planner that includes what I need to get done daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly. I don’t have to worry about forgetting something because it is written down. I refer to it often to see what is coming up and put it on my To Do list. Thank you for your ideas, I always love being more efficient! Connie
So blessed to have found your channel! I've been needing motivation to really put my all into being a mother, caring for our children and our home. I'm a Christian, we don't watch television, don't have social media, and spend as much time being present with each other as possible but it's been hard to find people (friends) who want to live the same way --plus I'm only 24. But here you are! It's still so hard to put in the elbow grease for the life you want; being pregnant definitely throws a wrench in energy-wise, but I'm in the second trimester, ready to take your tips and run! Thank you, God bless.
Efficiency is something I really struggle with, but I’m trying to get better and this video was so encouraging!! Thank you for being such a wonderful role model Jennifer - you are truly one of my role models for being a good wife and a classy lady. Thank you!!!💗
We gave up TV 20 years ago. Best decision we've made. It was more about what we could be doing instead of zoning out. When our kids were small (toddlers) we began to read aloud chapter books. My boys learned to love books. We also listen to music and play games. A book that inspired us to give up TV is "The Plug-In Drug" by Marie Winn. Thanks for all your inspiring videos.
Your videos are so delightful! I am in a different stage of life, have grandkids and I’m retired. My worst habit is TV, I was raised on TV and have always used it as a way to relax, and I love to binge watch series’s before I realize it I have spent hours in front of my iPad. I hardly read anymore and am always behind in my projects. I know I probably just need to go cold turkey but haven’t had the guts to move forward, the old you know what to do but still don’t do it syndrome. I was never raised to set goals but I do have a regular cleaning schedule, every time I try to set a goal I can never decide on one, just keep ⭕️. I love the inspiration and example you are giving for young families, the world could do with more of that.
My tip that has worked for me is to write out my "to-do" list and then number each item in order of priority. I just know myself, if I want to read my bible and exercise every day, I have to make a very deliberate decision to say that it has to be #1 and #2 on the list, as opposed to just being somewhere on a long list. Love this video, Jennifer!
I remind myself every day like a mantra not to procrastinate when I need to get things done, but I struggle to follow a routine and scheduled. I really needed this fantastic video. Thank you! 🙏 😊
I agree with you, I don't understand how people waste time watching tv and so much socials. The only thing I literally watch is Grey's anatomy, I wait for it to be on Netflix every June. Then I take some evenings , and watch it with no commercials, ( it's a treat for me as I am in the nursing field) other than that , I have no clue what is on tv lol. I obviously have my favorite you-tubers lol. I'm extremely structured so I can relate. Love waking up before my girl and having my coffee and getting my prayers in, and my thoughts for the day. 🙋🏻
I enjoy using day planners too. Have you ever considered creating your own day planner? I would definitely be interested in buying a 'Daily Connoisseur' Day Planner! I'm sure many of your other readers/ viewers would too! Just a thought!
Notes from this video: 1) Wake up earlier than the rest of your family so you can be prepared, for your own needs before they need to be attended to. At least an hour before they wake up. 2) Stop watching television. Alternatives - audiobooks (can do chores whilst listening) and books. 3) Try not to waste time on social media - Facebook can be a rabbit hole. Only use for work purposes and keep usage targeted. 4) Make goals for yourself. Professional and personal. 5) Make schedules and routines. Structure gives freedom. 6) Use a planner and calender on your phone. 7) Meal plan and freezer cooking. All of these things combined = efficiency.
Thank you for your great tips Jennifer❣️As a Messianic Believer, I have also been enjoying keeping the Sabbath (Friday sundown to Saturday sundown) holy and doing no regular work on that day. God bless you and your family❣️🥰🙏🏻💕💕💕
I must get on the 5:30am club! Its been nagging at my heart for years but I am so exhausted I can never get up that early. Thank you for inspiring us other home making mamas. You have a deep spiritual understanding that is lacking in our generation
Oh Jennifer, I am catching up with all your videos, they are great. I will like to tell you a bit on how I find out so many things you mentioned about being more efficient I did myself years ago. Like you, I homeschool my 2 kids, now they are out on their own and the first thing I did in 2017 was to cut my cable and Facebook. Then I had so much time to do things I really like and got my family and good friends in whatsupapp to keep up with their lives and pictures... I have many relatives around the world. I was able to give back to my community sewing masks and then went back to one of my first loves...cross stitch. So I am at peace, keep current events but I refuse to "marinated" on them, cross stitching and meeting wonderful ppl in you tube that share my hobby. I have young nieces whom I constantly advice (if they ask) or share my experiences. They are wonderful young ladies and now teaching their own kids about being a wonderful homemaker and taking care of the most important career in the world ...wife and mother. Thank you for all your great ideas and advice about what really is important, your home.
I saw this video on my feed and knew I should watch it but I didn't want to because it would remind me of how inefficient I can be.. Reluctantly I clicked on it because it's something I really need to work on. That sluggard quote is not what I wanted to hear but was absolutely needed lol truths are painful to swallow. I don't have children or a family yet and I admire women like you that can do it all. I Look forward to learning from you.
Did I hear you correctly, this is one of four videos this week?! What a treat!! I would love to see and hear more details about your cleaning routine and your meal planning.
I don’t have extra tips. Like you, I meal plan for the month, I also have a yearly cleaning planner for those jobs I don’t do ever week. I have 3 teenage children and work 3-4 days a week. You can do everything you want to do if you’re organised. Even watching TV. I find that I have the most of my energy in the mornings so that’s when my cleaning gets done. I cook most of my meals from scratch even when I work. It’s cheaper and I like it more. Meal planning is very helpful as I know that every day I know what to cook and will have the ingredients. Then after our dinner, that’s when I watch UA-cam or Netflix. I don’t watch mainstream TV. I listen to podcasts or audiobooks when I’m driving to work or when I’m cleaning. And some days I feel like doing nothing and just sit and rest or go for a walk by myself and have a little me time. As for the interview with Nikki, yay! I love you both so it’ll be nice to have you together in the same video.
I can totally relate to your feeling of being in a zone and not wanting to switch! And I agree that routines make everyday life work SO much better! Thanks for your encouragement!
Awe this comes at the right time for me, much needed. I'm a housewife, no kids, but we do have a puppy, we got her when she was about 2 months and now she's 4 months....I'm exhausted ....lol. But I still feel like I waste a lot of time.. I really appreciate your videos because you are a great example for women....for you smart, kind, calm, not cra-cra and boisterous and all over because your content flows really well from start to finish.💟
I’m excited about Thursday! I love Nikki’s channel. Waking up early is the best way to stay on top of everything. I started waking up early when my son was a baby and it changed my life! I felt so much less frazzled and loved having some quiet moments. ☺️
Just yesterday I deactivated both my Facebook and Instagram accounts. Social media for me (and the internet in general) is a giant time waster! It was making me anxious keeping up with everyone so I decided a break was in order. I'm hoping this will really help with my productivity as well as my mental clarity. I also just want to live more in the present moment. Thanks for sharing! I would love to know more about your specific routines. I have two children and always feel frazzled!
It's called self discipline and you have it in abundance. And you absolutely do have a life, the life of your choosing, and your ability to be self disciplined allows you to enjoy that life. We all choose how we're going to spend our time and live our lives. Kudos to you for doing what YOU love and want to do with your time and your life. If you and your family are happy, then it doesn't matter what others think or believe, they have their own lives to live and should concern themselves with that. I appreciate the helpful tips that you share with us here and I also read Madame Chic a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for giving us an interesting glimpse into their day to day lives. I learned a lot and was even able to implement some of it into my own life.
I think a general career advice video would add even more value to this channel. You so graciously share a lot about you as a homemaker, a wife, a mother, etc, but a bit less about you as a professional working woman (I know you do have some videos on this...self-publishing, for example). In 2018 we know that women don't have to choose between a career and a family, but to a degree that stigma still lingers. Learning more about your journey as a writer and how you've successfully built the Daily Connoisseur brand would be very inspiring!
Hello, I am new to your channel and to UA-cam really, I am a homeschooling mother of 5. My kids are ages 14-2, 3 boys and 2 girls. I love all your tips and it has helped me be more mindful about how I spend my time and energy. I struggle with keeping my house in order and having enough time for all my dutys and chores. Your videos are encouraging and I want to thankyou! I take being a wife, mother and homemaker very seriously and you have been a wonderful encouragement!
I so enjoyed this video. I don’t watch television anymore either. I rarely ever sit down and watch anything period. I do watch UA-cam often, but it’s nearly always while I’m actively doing something else. I, like you, dislike the feeling of wasted time and embrace productivity and efficiency. That being said, I also completely eliminated all social media, (with the exception of UA-cam of course), from my life a year and a half ago and never looked back. My life since doing so has been drastically different. Thank you for sharing this video, Jennifer. You’re an inspiration as always.
I relate to everything you say! I’m a work from home mom who homeschools. Just had my 5th baby and efficiency is so important to me. I’ve been working on homemaking skills for 17 years and thrive on routines. Love learning even more tips from you! Thank you!
I am relatively new to your channel, watching as I iron husbands work shirts. Both of us are in school, we homeschool, we don’t have time for tv. Just started waking before my family about a month ago and I absolutely love the quiet, peaceful, joyous me time. So worth it. Love your channel and your tips. Would love some more freezer meal ideas. I have several but am the type that loves good food and lots of variety. Bonus points if it’s vegetarian or can be converted to vegetarian easily. Enchiladas....mmmm. Love your Chanel! Thank you for the work you do.
Thank you :) Sometimes it does just take a gentle reminder that we all have the same 24 hours in a day. If you spend them making excuses and not getting things done - they will remain undone. We can't always let ourselves off of the hook for inaction and messy houses.
Good morning Jennifer! I have been waiting for this video because I love that you are so efficient with your time. All of your tips are wonderful and that is the perfect verse to pair with your chat! We also discuss this in our home. You are very successful and it’s clear as to why. Thank you for sharing about this today, I’m learning so much from you! I look forward to being on your channel this week! I feel the same about whatever it is I am doing, I really get in the zone and it’s hard to take those breaks. I love that you touched on time wasters, we can easily let time pass and not get a thing done. I am out of touch with tv and all that has been going on there for many years and I agree, my life is better for it! ~Nikki
Yes. I started meal planning this year. It is has been amazing how much it has helped. For me not just making dinner go more smoothly but after as well.
i've always planned meals too, anyone who mocked me, but then tried it...they loved it😄. I'm a big schedule person, I plan conferences, so love my job, lots of lists, I use Microsoft To Do, it slides emails into the list. I have a cleaning schedule and laundry. I have on the laundry schedule...load towels the night before and I turn the machine on the next morning, I try to distribute things that day, but on the schedule distribution is the next day...so if I can't complete it that day I'm still on schedule 😊I spend time with work, I'm allowed to work from home, I spend time in the garden, I sew, and I have playtime during the week with grandkids, schedules keep everything working...(I have my garden divided by zones so I weed and feed by a schedule) There are people who don't understand scheduling helps with efficiency, I feel freedom with scheduling because I get to do things I enjoy. If you do only one thing, plan your meals, you will have the supplies, makes cooking fun.
Fantastic inspiration! I'm fairly organized, but I regret I fall into some of the traps you mention. I've falling out of love with Facebook....I still use social media for connecting with other teachers (and to get classroom ideas for work) but I'm learning to target that time intentionally by setting a timer on my phone. When time is up, I log out! If not, I could spend HOURS researching teaching ideas or classroom decor ideas. Jennifer, you really inspire me in so many ways. Thanks so much!
Would really love to see your cleaning and cooking routines. I really enjoyed this video and got so much out of it Jennifer. Thank you! I always could use ideas as I struggle with a lot of the subject matter you were discussing. Hoping to get my home in better order.
I was nodding when you were saying you “get in the zone”! I call it “go mode” and sometimes my husband will see me mid task and ask ....are you okay? Lol I’m just that focused! Also you inspired me to rethink my Netflix subscription, I had it when I was younger but wasn’t watching it (and I was paying) and then resubscribed recently because I got caught up in the “buzz” of people talking about their favorite shows. I realised I haven’t watched it in over two months! So I closed my account. Now I can use the money for something more rewarding :)
This was a great video, Jennifer! I watched while doing my zone cleaning 😉. I'm in a different stage of life with boys who are 20 and 17, but it's amazing what you can get done if you set goals and eliminate distractions. I love using a timer, too!
Hi Jen, I sometimes dream of my kids being older because I know the hard labor part of life will be over haha. But I know you can attest it goes by way too fast so I'm trying to relish every moment. Much love to you! xo
the Daily Connoisseur l think you are very wise to relish the moment.i was always aware of that and it helped me to treasure the time. It’s human nature to think ahead to the positive of another time . I’ve enjoyed my children at each age . I’m learning from your videos and I thank you! 💕🌿💕
I too have stopped watching television (Dec 29, 2017). For the first three or four weeks I did have some withdrawal, but now I am torn about keeping my television or donating it. It feels like a permanent life choice right now. In the past 6 months I've been keeping better track of my spreadsheet budget, reading more, meditating in the morning and evening, keeping a daily gratitude journal and a daily assessment journal of how my day went, I've almost finished painting a chest and cleaning the hardware (which I've kept stored in my garage for over 5 years) to be moved to my entryway in the next week. And I've also reduced my social media time, more so because I feel like it's a negative environment too much of the time. My next resolve is to get a better handle on my UA-cam watching habit before it starts to get out of hand. Perhaps that's a subject that you could handle...too much of a good thing??? One last thing... thank you for your well thought out videos.
Can I share my tid bit with you? I hope you do keep the television for special movie nights, educational documentaries, etc. While I have never had cable, netflix, etc, I do enjoy renting movies from the library on occasion and it's a very special and fun activity, instead of a daily drain on time.
Good tips! I have homeschooled my three girls all the way, the eldest just graduated! I did find that making that period, especially during the elementary years, solely dedicated to homeschooling afforded me the pleasure of doing it to the best of my ability. I am now pursuing my art and writing endeavors. Seasons of life 😃💕🌸 lovely video as always
I should add- we were very social so we had our homeschool group over once a week, and I have been able to volunteer with the activities the girls are involved in such as theatre, Odyssey of the mind, dance, dog training classes etc! So if you homeschool and do not have your own side thing, you can help out with all the fun activities and interests that your children are involved in and you gain experience and connections for yourself at the same time!
I stopped watching tv in 2008, as I couldn't handle all of the bad stuff on top of going through personal changes at the time. I can honestly say that I've never missed it. However, I am aware that I now spend too much time on UA-cam! I need to restrict that! I'm so glad that you put the quote below, as I thought you'd said 'go to the end'! I then wondered why you were talking about ants!!! It all makes sense now!
Hi Jennifer! I don't engage much with TV or social media for the reasons you discussed, but I do selectively watch you and only a couple other channels on UA-cam, because you inspire me with your efficiency and your positive energy! As a professional and a mother of a 3 YO and 5 YO, I'd love a more detailed video with tips on the following: 1) can you provide a time breakdown of your morning and evening routines and suggestions for those with consistently early risers? My son wakes at 5:30am and by the time both kids are down it is around 8/8:30pm and I am exhausted. 2) how do you combat exhaustion and/or get things done while exhausted? 3) how do you overcome procrastination of seemingly undesirable or difficult tasks (i.e., loads of paper work, writing a challenging essay etc.) and 4) how do you prevent/deal with the kids from interrupting you while you are trying to focus on tasks such as cooking? I truly enjoy your channel and value your input! Thanks!
This is a wonderful video Jennifer. I love all of your recent home making videos. Please keep them coming, routine, planner, meal planning, shop with me, ten item wardrobe.
Love this video! You are happy and it shows!! Great tips! We cut cable about 7 years ago and it was the best thing ever! We don't miss it and I am so thankful !!! God bless you & your beautiful family!
I got rid of my FB a few years ago and my IG about a year ago and it has been the best decision for me! I’m happier, less anxious, and have a lot more time. When I start to miss the social and connected aspects of those platforms I remind myself to pick up the phone or write a letter to those I care about and want to stay in contact with. It is far more enriching than endlessly scrolling and liking something here and there for hours.
I'd love more videos like this. Details on getting things done as a busy mom would be sooo helpful. Cleaning schedule, cooking, time with kids etc. Thank you for always having such tasteful content!
Jennifer, I can so relate to you! I am so completely absorbed in whatever I am doing at the moment that I need to set several clanging alarms and timers (the noisier the better) in order to be able to drag myself away from whatever I am occupied with at the moment. I work from home, too. ( illustrator). It's almost as if I am in an altered state of consciousness. Then oddly later (just as for you) when I do have time to go back to my work, it's hard to get out of the family/cleaning/cooking mode. Thank you for all these wonderful tips on being more efficient. So appreciate them. 💕, Kate
I bought a stand alone freezer which I dedicate to frozen meals and batches of rice, beans etc all in single or family size portions. It is a time saver for sure 😊
I have been waiting for this video, and hopefully there will be more on your structured and efficient way of life. I learned a lot and have some great takeaways and I also have more questions, too. Your pantry organizing video was spectacular, and I'd love for you to do one on your new filling cabinets and "establishing a filing system" as you said it was one of your goals and not one of your favorites. Please talk about your filing system in a future video as this is a roadblock for me and although people ask us if our house "is always this neat," I know I can do better in this area with "paper." I'd also love to see your cleaning routine(s), too. I like your various structured routines on cleaning, cooking and writing to be productive through your efficiency and it truly shows in your life. Ah, to be the ant and not the sluggard! We learn from all creatures great and small. One question I have is how do you manage your UA-cam watching so it doesn't get longer than you wish? It can be much like television, if we let it. How many hours a day do you spend on your favorite UA-cam channels and what are some you recommend? Do you get your news online and from what sources or do you read a newspaper? We read the "Los Angeles Times" print edition and at nighttime will watch a 30-minute news program and then "Jeopardy" which we find both entertaining and enjoyable. After that, I will usually read or as I'm doing now, catching up on your UA-cam channel, because yours is my favorite. The choice you and your husband made to not be zombies and put more enriching material into your lives is really powerful and motivating to me to make that choice with my time. That's a great decision. Another takeaway is that you and your husband talk a lot and hold conversations together. I don't have that in my life and it seems really lovely. As for planners, I've always used a monthly planner, which is my layout preference, because I love to look at the entire month. I buy one from Gallery Leather which I like very much, because I order it in navy leather and I like the ribbon to mark my pages. I also type up a weekly "Daily Notes" on one page, so I can see my to-do list of assorted running items. You were born efficient and I'm grateful you're sharing these fabulous tips! Thank you, Jennifer.
This is very inspiring! I recently became a stay at home mom and want to start a business from home but I struggle with doing both. Thank you for being an example of how to be a homemaker and entrepreneur!
Thank you for your motivating tips!! We cut out TV (other than the occasional profitable UA-cam vid) 2 years ago and have no regrets. What a life changer!!
I appreciate this video. Unfortunately I'm more of a grasshopper type who goofs off and procrastinates. I'm getting better with age. I would love more detail videos like this. We can always use help in this area.
MustardSeedish I would also like more video like this. This video is interesting but it does not get into details about the process e.g. how and when Jennifer decides to plan. Jennifer, are you able to do that with children around? Or do you go to a coffe shop? How are you able to concentrate etc... I am also more of a procastinator, I am not very efficient and I get very little accomplished during my day. I guess it is because I usually don't really have a plan. But when I have one, I resist it tremendously. I am a daydreamer and it is just very difficult for me to see the point of getting things done....right now! Of course when I have a deadline at work or guest for dinner, I become really efficient. But I would like to avoid some of the last minute stress (we travel a lot, and I really like packing but the last hour before leaving the house for the airport or the station is always very strssful). Also with work, I do meet my deadlines but in the process I stress my family a lot, it happens that I have a short temper, no patiece with small ones etc... I am suspecting though that Jennifer who is naturally efficient cannot really help us because she has a different thought process and does not experience the anguish of procastination in the same way. Jennifer, if you read this, know that I would love a video that describes the thought process for the motivation to get things done ahead of time + detailed plannig process. Thank you both!
TV has never been a big temptation for me. My family has Netflix and Amazon, and that’s it! I do also like to “watch” UA-cam while I clean and do chores and I’m a huge fan of listening to podcasts, music or audiobooks while I work! Routine is a big thing for me too! I’m not super structured, but we generally keep to a routine and I use a planner and a calendar! Things I need to work on....getting up (and going to bed) earlier! And getting off social media! I can get sucked into social media on my phone way too easily! Some of my goals are to get off my phone so much and spend my time working in my garden each day, playing the piano, and reading more each day. Editing to add a question: how do you like Pureflix? I’ve been curious about it for a while. My husband really wants to keep Netflix though. He’s a lot more into tv shows than I am!
God bless you! I am new in your Chanel. I love all the work you do, and I spend time on social media watching amazing people like you that contribute positively to our lives. 🌷
This was encouraging to me. I struggle with procrastination and I often feel tired from work but I do have to create a routine and stick to it. Thank you for this video. 🌺🌸
I love listening to you! I’m going to read your book! I’m declittering and getting the mail system under control as we speak! I love the no TV rule. I completely agree! :)
This was so inspirational. When you talked about disliking when you have to stop the task you are doing, that is me. Yes! I get it. When I’m in the zone I don’t want to stop. Good tips! Thank you for them! ☺️
Hello! I'm a regular viewer and reader. You mentioned that your husband works at home as well. Does he contribute to the cooking and housekeeping? How does that work into your weekly routine? I've enjoyed seeing more appearances from Mr. Connoisseur lately and would love to know more about how you share or divide household responsibilities.
I love the fact that you shared this!! And that you do it all with a calm demeanor. That is great to see because so many wives/moms that I've observed that "do it all" always seem overly caffeinated and obnoxiously hyper. And I knew I didn't want to live that way and couldn't live that way. I relate very much to your personality about staying in zones and feeling that routines are actually what brings freedom. Do you go to sleep at 8:30pm then if you're waking up at 5:30am? Please let me know!
I was so excited to see the title of this video, because efficiency is something I DESIRE in my life! Thank you for sharing your tips, Jennifer. I'll certainly be re-watching this video in the future for motivation. ;) Your family motto is absolutely delightful, and I may start using it with my girls, as well. I'm sure they'd get a giggle out of it, as well as that extra nudge to be diligent. :) Also, I'm thrilled that you and Nikki are doing a video together! I can hardly wait to see it! :) Note: I was just reading other comments and the requests for routine videos reminded me that I am particularly curious about your before-bed routine. That is my main struggle in waking up early...I tend to stay up too late and I'm an eight-hours-of-sleep girl! ;)
Excellent video. These are simple tips but when you put them all together and actually do them, what a difference it makes! Thanks for the inspiration.
Go to the ant, thou sluggard! :) Thank you for joining me for today's video. For more, visit my corresponding blogpost dailyconnoisseur.blogspot.com/2018/07/how-to-be-efficient-my-best-tips.html Love, Jennifer
the Daily Connoisseur Ioved this proverb 👌 it sounds so funny, and I really want to remember it.
Hi Jennifer,
Please share all of your routines! You are so organized and i definitely struggle with being efficient
Thanks for writing that out...I kept hearing "go to the end..."
the Daily Connoisseur love the KJV! I discovered recently that the worker ants are FEMALE, which wasn't known until fairly recently, so the king James is correct in referring to the ant as 'her'. Other versions call the ant 'it'. I started home educating over twenty years ago but I am writing all your tips down. We never stop learning.x
Hi Kerry, that is so interesting about the female ants! The bible declares so many facts before man discovers them. It's pretty cool.
🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕
The kids knew and stayed up super late just because I was up
Love This so much! Thank you for This testemony. You and Jennifer help me understand the importance of routine and their impact on those around us.
Please post cleaning and cooking routines. I would love to see how you get things done!
HI Jennifer,
Love the scripture and all of the "right on" tips! All my life I wanted nothing else but to be a Mom and homemaker. I got to retire early (52) and I just laugh at all the comments like "aren't you bored?" Are you kidding?! Home is where it's at as far as I'm concerned! So many wonderful things to accomplish! Happy week. Cheryl :-)
Cheryl McNeely Totally agree!
Cheryl McNeely when I stayed home to take care of my family people asked me how I keep from getting bored.
I had to look and see if I wrote this comment! I had friends I envied because they didn't work outside the home as I never got to do that. They thought I was crazy. Some 40+ years later and still working, I still envy SAHM. TFS
This subject should be your 5th book!!
What a great idea!
I agree!
Ooh yes... please Jennifer!!!
Great idea!
I agree!! Jennifer is a gem 💎 !
I love the fact that instead of watching tv all evening you and your husband talk! Very refreshing x
JEnnifer, you are a treasure....love your love for Gods word. It is lovely to HEAR the KJV !!! HE is blessing your life.
DeAnna Wilson Amen. Praise the Lord for young Families living the right way. Using the right Scripture, is a real encouragement.
Watching you is a joy. You are wise beyond your years. Look forward to seeing you here this week. Have a beautiful day
Thank you for these great tips!
Thank you!!!💗
You are the perfect example of a mommy and wife. God bless
I very much relate with all you have said. You're a very lovely person, inside and out.
I hear you about the ' zone'! Motherhood has helped me grow and be less selfish in this way.
Thank you! 🙏 😊
It's refreshing to hear that you are happy and a happy person! I aspire to be more like that! 🥰
"This is Us" ... best TV EVER! in my opinion. I agree, though, limit the TV and the social media.
I enjoy using day planners too. Have you ever considered creating your own day planner? I would definitely be interested in buying a 'Daily Connoisseur' Day Planner! I'm sure many of your other readers/ viewers would too! Just a thought!
I agree! I can imagine the inspirational quotes and advice on each page even now.
Caroline Hightower I would, too. I imagine lots of grids and lists and charts.
I would definitely buy one!
I'd buy one!!
I would buy it also!
Notes from this video:
1) Wake up earlier than the rest of your family so you can be prepared, for your own needs before they need to be attended to.
Thank you so much hun! Great to have a recap of the video! ❤️❤️
I Look forward to learning from you.
damn. this chick is FOCUSED. so much respect!!
I love watching you! You are so real and calm! A truly liberated woman . This is what it’s all about. Thanks so much.
Jennifer, your videos are like kind advice from an older sister. They help me so much. Thank you.
Would love a video on routines. Thanks for sharing!
Me too🤗
I would love to see a video of our routines
~Nikki
Thank you, Nikki! I'm so excited for our interview on Thursday!
Yay! So excited for Thursday! ❤️ Hugs to you both from a rainy Rio de Janeiro! 🤗
I like to watch tv while being productive like while exercising or folding laundry, etc.
We feel like we can't go back to watching TV either. I hear you!
3) how do you overcome procrastination of seemingly undesirable or difficult tasks (i.e., loads of paper work, writing a challenging essay etc.) and
4) how do you prevent/deal with the kids from interrupting you while you are trying to focus on tasks such as cooking?
I truly enjoy your channel and value your input! Thanks!
This is a wonderful video Jennifer. I love all of your recent home making videos. Please keep them coming, routine, planner, meal planning, shop with me, ten item wardrobe.
Love this video! You are happy and it shows!! Great tips! We cut cable about 7 years ago and it was the best thing ever! We don't miss it and I am so thankful !!! God bless you & your beautiful family!
I have almost got Proverbs memorized! They are awesome to live wisely!
You are such an elegant classy woman. Very inspirational. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. They are much appreciated
Jennifer, you are always so inspiring. I’m thankful for you!
Thank you!
💕, Kate
I don't watch television at all. I'm just watching such useful videos like yours, beautiful Lady)))
I bought a stand alone freezer which I dedicate to frozen meals and batches of rice, beans etc all in single or family size portions. It is a time saver for sure 😊
I would very much like to see a video(s) with your daily/weekly cleaning routine! 😃👍❤️
Lauren Moss Me, too!
Me too
You are beautiful and wise beyond your years. Blessings to you and your family. Thank you for the inspiration and tips.
I’ve read all your books and I can’t wait to read your version of how to be efficient. Thank you so much for what you do. 💝
An important subject,I think they even discuss this in school now.Back when we were it was the basic subjects. So that’s good!
Please please do a video on all your routines! I know I'm not the only one who is interested in seeing how you make routines work for you.
I would love to see your cleaning routine, as well as organizing before you cook.
Loved this video Jennifer! Would be interested in future videos on meal planning and home routines.
I'd love to know more about your favourite freezer meals and the recipes you use, and how you build up your freezer meal inventory.
Would love to see a meal planning video as this is something I am trying to get into. I love your books and your attitude to life.
This is very inspiring! I recently became a stay at home mom and want to start a business from home but I struggle with doing both. Thank you for being an example of how to be a homemaker and entrepreneur!
I recently discovered your channel and love your focus on making home life a beautiful place! I totally agree.
Thank you both!
moncpteUA-cam have you read a book Power of habit? I cannot recommend it enough!
Thank you for the idea! I will look it up!
I ordered it at the library. Thank you.
Love this subject! I am passionate about being efficient in all areas -especially home keeping.
We love PureFlix! I recommend it. We cancelled Netflix and don't miss it.
the Daily Connoisseur Good to know! Thank you :)
God bless you! I am new in your Chanel. I love all the work you do, and I spend time on social media watching amazing people like you that contribute positively to our lives. 🌷
finally somebody else that doesn't watch tv and enjoys you tube!!!!! no apologies for that!! thank young yes no social media!!
Jasmine Amber I’m curious as well
I love the fact that you shared this!!
That is my main struggle in waking up early...I tend to stay up too late and I'm an eight-hours-of-sleep girl! ;)
Good topic. I love your tips. I also meal plan and do freezer meals! You got me into waking up early. Thanks. Liz
Excellent video. These are simple tips but when you put them all together and actually do them, what a difference it makes! Thanks for the inspiration.
I would love to see a video on your routines, particularly your cooking routine.
