It's a bit overwhelming sorting through tons of Pokemon and moves to try and find which one is best.
That's why I think pokemon it's just for long time fans, I love the game cos I've played since the first one, but like starting now or even 2/3 gens ago, it's hard, lot of movesets and comps to learn
@@eisenouttherefor me, I just got into competitive this generation, but I’ve been a pokemon fan my entire life, so having that baseline familiarity helped me a lot. Getting in fresh though seems like a momentous task.

Man this is the video I’ve been looking for. I used to play a lot of competitive in ORAS and did pretty good. I stopped playing ever since Sun and Moon and now I want to go back to competitive. I’ve forgot almost everything about competitive gaming in Pokemon and your tips and points hit the boxes that I’m looking for. I wanna play with the mons that I used to play a lot back in the day and all of them are UU but I’m gonna follow your tip and try to play my favorite pokemons. All I see in Smogon are super sweaty RMTs

I've been pondering about how those Smogon guys rate Pokemon, and always got this gut feeling of them not really knowing what they're doing. Man you totally hit the nail on the head and roast 'em lol. Nice informative videos as always, I trust you more than I ever trust them, so go Team Verlisify!
I used to go way harder on Smogon but they banned so many non problematic things that they clowned themselves out of being taken seriously

Totally agree, I thought it was funny Houndstone was banned because of Last Respects, i tried using it as a late game strat in thus goofy doubles team i made and went 1-2,
@@miguelzurita3216 Grats on the win, and for trying it out! Oh yeah Houndstone too, I think it's a much needed tool to turn the tables around (which is, imho, a very needed move / ability in competitive Pokemon battling). No respects to Smogon for banning it (pun intended).

I'm going to be honest: recently I've been working as a dragon-type gym leader in a Pokemon server I am a part of. I follow season 8 regulation D rules along with the entire server, and we build just like with the gyms in the game: Full team of 6 with the final Pokemon Tera into our gyms typing.
However I have a very serious problem, my team seems a bit too easy to defeat for trainers with me being the dragon type gym leader I've constantly made changes to try and better my team so it can pose more of a threat for anybody that wants to challenge me. I'm wondering if it's actually my team that has a problem or if it is me. Could honestly really use some help since I am the only gym that doesn't use a single legendary and I wanted to prove that I could be a very powerful and challenging gym without need of a legendary
Is ev/Iv training recommended before competitive battles? I just hatched a deino and am level it up via candy so it has no IV training or modifications.

Gen9 I'm switching to singles too many hackers in doubles and it's trash anyway I love fast polemon so I'm going to pick one of them and then I'm gunna pick one of your dirty tank pokemon cause I've had alot of fun watching you use them I'm not fully committed to 6 tanks tho haha
I wouldn't exactly call it the ultimate competitive guide, but it sure does explain a bit more than what other videos I've seen. I swear it seems that when I try to look up videos on how to do basic team building in Pokémon I always seem to only find videos titled "best competitive team building guide" with some guy saying to just go on smogon and use only Uber tier Pokémon and you should be good.

I usually run mono ghost team but I can't get Aegislash or cofigrigius so I guess the ghost team died
Still in the story portion, but I'm also picking up stuff through Tera raids and some exploring. I've got some competitive ideas based on some things I want to use and at least one Pokémon I caught in a raid.
Also, for looking at move options, I like to use Serebii or at least something other than Showdown because the usability classification is lame (though the filtering is nice).
Also would like to point out the only SV pokemon team building or pokemon guides are built around vgc and showdown.
I don't think showdown is complete trash. It serves a niche really well as a quick battle simulator you can play on mobile or PC and if you think a certain ruleset is dumb, don't play that format.
I don't mind a double battle from time to time but it's not the format I want to play competitively. It's not the format we spend 99% of the game playing.

No. It loses its Fairy weaknesses and immunities and gains all of the weakness and immunities of the Steel Typing which are Fighting, Fire, and Ground with an immunity to Poison.
I gotta say thank you for your tips, im getting into competive running a goofy team of Dondonso, Hippowdown, Gravevard, and Orthworm in doubles hoping for fissure to hit and if not use last respects to sweep, it worked against one team while i got slapped by some goofy Maushold Annialape team. And we all know whats happening in singles and nothing is stoping The Rock or Golddust
As for the people who manage showdown, how does your rules help me win games when Im on my Switch

@@BeetleBuns when i was palying doubles i saw it a lot, im amazwd by how gimmicky the set up is and how it actually gets wins, one thung im seeing nkw is Pelipper and Kilowatt the two have moves that do DAMAGE due to rain guranteeing hits from their moves. Ive just experimenting when playing SV. Im running different teams like Blissey applying helping hand to Specs Sylveon or Scizzor or something with facade and guts, these are guranteed OHKOs if the Pokemon isnt the Don the Salt or Gholdengo.

@@Verlisify I can get by playing the game this way, using my revives and my heals, relying on a Pokémon to be a sponge while everyone else recovers, or I can keep swapping out Pokémon. It’s not about losing battles for me. It’s about knowing the right way to form a team and play the game efficiently.
@@switchunboxing Since competitive Pokemon is a knowledge game you can really only learn from experience. Since there's countless viable strategies you can't really know a gamestate without experiencing it or something similar, so you kinda have to know what loses to not do that and win

Also keep in mind most “OU” and “Ubers” are either noob traps, not all that good or worth the hype. Take Vish. It needs speed otherwise it’s bad and 90 attack really isn’t intimidating either. Also most recently, I came to realize Palafin is actually dog💩. Unless it switches out, it’s actually horrible and has to get extremely lucky, and while dealing with only having 72 base attack(I think but that’s all I know). But that aside, it’s more passionate to experience competitive in the official and actual games than on a simulator.
So. I'm just getting into competitive play -- well not entirely sure. I was competitive in red and blue, but that was ... Well, a little while ago. The game has certainly changed. I'd LOVE to collaborate with you and get your opinion on the best way to go about supporting/building around my favourite pokemon in this generation.

I had someone tell me "Electrode is bad in OU". Come end of the match when they had a bunch of pokemon at low health, they proceeded to loose to the Electrode. They had no idea of the Moveset and setup a +6 Mimikyu....Electoded with a Sash and Foul Play was a surprise. Then it just swept the remaing team with stab thunderbolt and HP Ice.

As you mentioned before, smogon is going to collapse. I never liked smogon and their "philosophy". I wonder what they are going to ban next (not that I care). "The terastallize mechanic is too strong we must ban it" or "X pokemon is too strong and it has no counters and we must ban it" (I'm betting on Gholdengo).
Can't wait for the Houndstone guild. The stats it has are the definition of Tank! 72, 100, 97 with 101 attack and 68 speed? This dog takes hits and comes back swinging, all it's missing is sustain but you may not need it? You don't want to bring a ghost type in on this thing, especially if it's their last Pokémon, and as for dark? Body Press. Hisuian Zoroark trying to ruin your day by tricking you with Illusion? Stomping Tantrum. And it's immune to Sandstorm, they only make it faster! I'm surprised Verlis hasn't picked it up yet?
