- Middlesbrough FC announce plans to build new £16m stadium on the banks of the River Tees in time for the start of the 1995-96 season. Wowsers! Ayresome Eric would have to change his name to Riverside Ronnie and probably upgrade to a digital radio. Wherever The Boro play, he's as much a part of the Teesside landscape as the Transporter and certainly higher up the list of treasured Boro landmarks than some metal string hanging up on a couple of circles.

Even by the standards of the day 16m was an absolute bargain and its a great little stadium.
Always remember Eric with his radio
Wow Steve Gibson looks so young
YOU'RE WELCOME
I’m Newcastle fan nearly 50 year from boro , oh how the mags wish for chairman like you , a true fan stuck with it thankless task sometimes deserve bit more success like us .
@@garymay799 yeah mate I reckon if you lot had a half decent chairman you wouldn't be the smallest club in the North East
@@robbo03 I reckon Newcastle fan wise are about 4th or 5th biggest in England.
@@garymay799 not even the 4th or 5th biggest in the region.
@@robbo03you where saying daft khunt
Eric was always near the ayresome gates.
Eric was always near the Ayresome gates from 84-86
Lennie Lawrence was a legend at Charlton. He almost single handedly kept the club alive for 5 years while we were playing "home" games at Selhurst Park.
Ayrsome Park became a housing development nice too
Remember that day.allways used c the lad about.hop he’s doing ok
always had his daft radio next to his ear
never really seen Eric at footy but always went to Redcar speedway with his program next to the tapes?
what happened to eric
Gordon McKeag, Gosforth's answer to Peter Cushing
All that time has gone by & we are still crap
We DID have ambition then but now? Not much imo. Steve Gibson is a legend but unless he wants the club to remain in the championship then he needs to seriously invest like he did before he cut the budget in 2006.
Why didn’t we kick on from Eindhoven? We’ve never had that kind of success since, and we have never looked likely to have had that success, and at the moment don’t look likely to ever have that success again.
If Steve Gibson hasn’t got the money then that’s absolutely understandable, but no one can criticise Steve for what he has done what he needs to let outside investment into the club on a big scale if he wants to properly compete in the Premier League. And success will breed success, so it would be in the long run .
We should’ve stayed up in 16/17 but hopefully get back to the big time this year
He should’ve sold a quarter of the club to the Chinese investors years ago
@@swinno007 exactly. Agree on both points.
What do you think Carrick would be like in the Prem? The way he’s got us in laying atm is nothing short of incredible but could he carry that on in the Prem with much of the current team. I think we’d need to seriously invest. Our team is good but I’m not sure it’s good enough to cut it in the Prem. I don’t want us to go up and come straight back down
Oh dear ,not in the same league as the old place now you can here pin drop, Gibson I'm afraid was more interested in new fans that sit on therr arse that the old school fans that bled the club
Great comment mate , i used to follow the Boro all over the country, in 1982 as an unemployed 16 year old used to get £31.60 a fortnight Dole money , £!8.00 to our Mam left me £13.60 to follow the Boro , home and sometimes would Hitch Hike to the away games (young uns would have to google what Hitch Hike means) when they built the NEW GROUND (I refuse to say The Riverside) Gibson made it a fashion accessory to be a Season Ticket Holder and had totally forgot/insulted the fans that had struggled to see the Boro when they where on their Arse , even so they are the team i slag off but love just as much as i will always love , UTFB
