Love every one of these. Makes me sad that Middlesbrough's beautiful architecture was so readily bulldozed for grim modern buildings, vandalism, pure & simple.
Totally excellent, yet again Stephen! To someone of my age, the sombre yet beautiful bl/grd music playing, whilst viewing areas of the town (Then) which I fully remember, seemed quite appropriate.
Dora, several people have told me that it was in a poor structural condition so I suppose McDonalds thought it would be cheaper to demolish and rebuild.
Dora, originally there were maisonettes built on that site which only lasted for about 25 years. When I lived in the area in the late 1960's those houses were in a terrible condition and had been turned into multi-occupancy housing by private landlords who neglected the housing.
Hi Stephen hope that you are well. For what it's worth I tell anyone of a certain age who travels in my taxi about how good your channel is. I had a brainwave. Have you ever considered a Christmas/New Year video... Anr p uk teacher retired
Hi Ant, I'm well thanks and hope that you are as well. How are you finding taxi driving I't must be a huge change to teaching ? Regarding a Christmas/New Year video, I'm afraid they aren't enough suitable photos to sustain a video. In the years since I started making the comparison photos offhand I think I've only made about 3 Christmas comparisons and my videos need at least 15. As for the 8mm film dashcam footage, yes I've seen it as it's been shared on the Facebook Memories of Middlesbrough group a few times but thank you for thinking to tell me about it. Stephen.
Middlesbrough, Where women walk on Crocks, where men wear visibility vests for no obvious reason. Where the people lean on canes while they wander over worn down streets. Where when the locals give you a smile their teeth look like the streets they live in; Houses missing or in dire need for urgent repairs. Where all hope is lost, Middlesbrough.
You could be forgiven for thinking that the Planning Department were under strict instructions to increase bleakness by 100%. And they succeeded. Bleak The Boro!
This is epic. Particularly loved Wilson St and Grange Road. This town is totally ruined now by mindless idiots. Like the ones who tried to smash my car up for no reason. Great video Stephen Ant
Thanks Ant, sorry to hear about the idiots trying to smash your car. Sadly there have always been mindless idiots but there are many more now ruining the town.
The Town and it's people have been neglected by every government since the 1960's. A once proud aspiring town built on heavy industry that fueled the industrial revolution has declined since most of the industry closed to due to cheaper and inferior imports.
Another fantastic video Stephen thank you. 😊
You're welcome Mark 👍
Amazing photos. Thank you for sharing them.
You're most welcome 👍
Excellent as always. Many thanks.
Thanks again.
Loved that, thank you Stephen.
Your most welccome Stewart,
Amazing mate! X
Thank you Jonathan 👍
Love every one of these. Makes me sad that Middlesbrough's beautiful architecture was so readily bulldozed for grim modern buildings, vandalism, pure & simple.
I agree and only hope the town planners learn from their past mistakes and the few examples of great architecture we have left is preserved.
To be an architect requires professional training; to be a councilor doesn't.
They won't learn because they are handing contracts out.
@@kenhutley971 what has happened to architecture then?
Dora, the bulldozer always seemed to be the first choice rather than re-purpose the old buildings.
Totally excellent, yet again Stephen! To someone of my age, the sombre yet beautiful bl/grd music playing, whilst viewing areas of the town (Then) which I fully remember, seemed quite appropriate.
Thank you Chris, I'm happy that you liked the video.
At 1:18, the town looks better in the 70s than it does now :(
I think that about nearly every picture on every video that he does. It almost always looks better in the older pictures.
the then are always better than the now wish i could turn back time
It’s beautiful
Thank you Julie
Its a shame that there is so much of these mini markets and take away shops now it takes away from how nice the buildings actualy are
I love Middlesbrough me
Losing the Tower Building was a mistake, unless it was structurally unsafe? Great job taking the photos from exactly the same spot.
Thank you.
They say it's structurally unsafe so they can knock it down.
Dora, several people have told me that it was in a poor structural condition so I suppose McDonalds thought it would be cheaper to demolish and rebuild.
Love it
Thank you.
Those lovely houses knocked down to build the Health centre. Shocking.

@@BigMack1959 we are going back to those days. Always car parks!
Dora, sad to say that I agree with you.

Stephen.
Middlesbrough's architecture has been decimated over the years. I don't recognise my birth place anymore.
A great video as always Stephen, M’boro planners should feel ashamed!
Thanks Dave, and I agree with you 👍
Hi Stepehen
Have you seen Shane Ds dashcak footage of 1965 mbro on hete

It's all ruined now history has gone with days of happiness safer communitys people helped each other more now people don't hardly mix
The photo of the Dormant
trams swapped with pizza shops XD

Sadly Robert I have to agree with you.
All done on purpose .
When Middlesbrough was a small town in Yorkshire instead of the Geordie enclave it is now🤔
This is epic.
Particularly loved Wilson St and Grange Road.

My freinds wife thai she came to Middlesbrough she said never see poverty like that in Thailand shocking
