Middlesbrough were spoiled in those days, two of the greatest ever Scottish footballers Graeme Souness and as a Celtic fan my personal favourite the late great Bobby Murdoch what a player he was.
My dad who knew a lot about football said Bobby Murdoch was the best passer of a football he had ever seen, Souness became one the best midfielders in the world by playing with Murdoch.
@@alfreddunn03 Well your Dad knew a proper player when he seen one, Bobby was a big barrell chested guy not like your lean slick players of today, Jock Stein often said why run 40 yards when you can pass it and that's what Bobby did better than anyone.
Star of David totally agree, I met him a couple of times as my house backed onto what was then Middlesbrough’s training ground called Hutton road, (he was manager at that time ) he loved a drink did Bobby (they all did them days) and he dank in our local which was the white Rose pub...I remember my dad saying, they couldn’t believe Celtic let him go on a free, but said at the time Celtic were churning out such talented young players, great player, great guy.
thats how the pitches were back then. like bowling greens for a couple of months until the late autumn. then a boggy sandy pit for remainder of the season.
