It would be good to get members to also guess what the prompts were, so you can show the boiks a word cloud of all the guesses and see how close the audience got.
Though of a fun additional twist to this idea: have to use other people (maybe other yogs)as actors and you cannot tell them the premise of the movie or any details beyond their lines and physical actions
Wow, I think this one is my new favorite just cuz of the practical effects and how well some of these shots worked together, haha, like the mind-controlled knife was way more convincing than I was expecting XD Also I love how much extra stuff you all managed to do in this one, just casually monchin' on snacks and doing a mini skit like there wasn't a looming time limit, haha, such skillz
Smiths discomfort with doing embarrassing shit in public vs Trotts willingless to make a complete ass of himself no matter where he is and who is watching is so fun
Mind Dagger - Practical Effects Shine in 2024 Marketed as an historical drama on a spaceship with elements of fantasy, Mind Dagger was sure to be difficult to shape in to a cohesive product. The HatFilms troupe demonstrates their ingenuity and creativity on a modest budget with staggering practical effects. Deranged caricatures mask an impenetrable plotline which leaves the audience asking "WHY?". An Alien (Christopher Trott) alone in a spheroid spacecraft, is thrown into technical and emotional turmoil during an unscheduled landing. The motivations of the Alien are initially unclear, but what we do discern is that swift action must be taken. A nondescript Chef (Alexander Smith) encounters the Alien in a grubby backstreet. Their exchange is brief, but we gather the Chef is persuadable and in need of an escape from his doldrums. The Alien has found his thrall. A master and apprentice dynamic forms between the two characters. The Alien inflicts his knowledge of vegetal divination on his servant, revealing interstellar travel is enabled by julienned tubers. Physically broken, the underling revolts against his arcane teacher. In a savage final act, the Chef overpowers his puppeteer. Struck with guilt, the Alien accepts its demise. The audience is left to wonder if the Alien’s remorse originates from actions on the ship or the treatment of the Chef. Was the Alien always alone on his craft? Viewers are expected to join the dots themselves in this filmette. Themes of escape and justice are silhouetted but incomplete. Excellent effects redeem a shadowy, tangled story. 4.6 stars.
i still think a fun challenge in the future would be to either do a new concept or revisit one of these old ones and redo it but with a much bigger time allowance and / or budget just to see how much difference time makes! There's a challenge in visual art where you draw the same picture, but each time decreasing the amount of time you have.. typically like, 10 minutes, 1 minute, 30 seconds, 10 seconds lol this would be like the reverse of that
having a conversation while walking, not to make it seem like story is moving forward, but because they are actually going somewhere. honestly truly groundbreaking and refreshing. they haven't even started filming yet, and already they are revolutionising film
Ended up helping my brother finish shooting a short film this past week and thankfully it wasn't this chaotic! I seriously love these vids though, lads. One of my favorite things you guys do!
These three hour film challenges are amazing, perfect HatFilms content that really plays to their creative and spontaneous strengths! I hope we see lots more!
I'd love to see a follow up to these where the boys are allowed another 3 hours to edit it properly, add music, sound effects, colour grading all the "fix it in post" type things to compare a before and after!
The lights ... will be shining ... on the ship ... and the space pope ... will leave ... for war ... tomorrow (you know because of fantasy time travel)
This is iconic af, I love the short films the boiks come up with! The practical effects were top notch, and the alien spacecraft was amazingly realistic.
Turns out that Tom has exactly the same alien crown. Who would have thought
What do you mean, Tom? That was clearly a homeless man
the children screaming genuinely sounded like they were screaming at a space ship
the cut to Tom in the alien hat sent me
He was just there, wearing that. 😂
Spoilers bro
coke fiend has evolved!
It would be good to get members to also guess what the prompts were, so you can show the boiks a word cloud of all the guesses and see how close the audience got.
love this idea. will do this next time!
@@CraigMeUp I can't Craig up, can you help me?
These guys are so good at shorts, they did their own skit in the middle of production😂
11:57 “Fuck's sake“
When Tom wore the hat it didn’t look like a costume
Ngl, I was very impressed with trotts alien voice.
considering he usually sings in a very silly fashion it is easy to forget he's got quite a vocal range lol
21:57 Flash backs to Smith saying he nearly stabbed his brother that one time when he was a kid - the man hasn't learned
Smashing vid lads, loved it
No he is just doing as instructed and cutting towards Chris Trott. Did you not get that safety memo?
Though of a fun additional twist to this idea: have to use other people (maybe other yogs)as actors and you cannot tell them the premise of the movie or any details beyond their lines and physical actions
Would love to see a 24hr version of this where you have time to properly establish a plot and flesh out characters
Never stop these please boiks, immense stuff
21:37 that homeless man was so delighted that you showed him what a phone looks like.

Cut towards Trott
I love Smith shaking his head when Trott says he's with them
Can’t believe they got the masterminds behind doctor who’s effects to help them

Should have been called Mind Goblin

They should screen these to whoever of the yogs that happen to be nearby for more reactions on these great pieces of craft
Can I just point out that Ross's hair is incredible.
It is isn't it, i am very jealous.
Perhaps this would go against the whole idea, but the new DnD set in the warehouse would've been an ideal location
These videos never disappoint. My favourite content on YT.
I love how Tom just randomly appears in yogcast videos all the time.
Honestly this was my fav one yet lmao
These are quickly becoming my favourite videos, please keep em coming boiks
These three hour film challenges are amazing, perfect HatFilms content that really plays to their creative and spontaneous strengths! I hope we see lots more!
I would love a Tom cameo in one of these.
Phenomenal as always but the VFX editor in me HAS to comment that practical effects are Special Effects, not VFX :) Love u xoxox
A hidden benefit of going on holiday is coming back to a backlog of Hat Films to binge after work
damn craigs voice over was on point!
I'm still on my porcelain throne
Smith really shouldn’t be trusted with knives…😳
The part with Smith and the knife made me think of Link from GMM "do you know they don't let me have knives"
These are so fun to watch, the end result and the process!
The "Opening Doors" is perfect...
Absolutely love these film challenges boiks, keep 'em coming!
Tom is back!!!
I think we should keep knives away from Smith 😂😂
I mean if this was set in the distant future then a historical drama set in space is plausible
Great stuff yet again, I'd love to see this format taken further or even just more of the same tbh cause its hilarious
I'd love to see a follow up to these where the boys are allowed another 3 hours to edit it properly, add music, sound effects, colour grading all the "fix it in post" type things to compare a before and after!
22:53 Smith on the shitter every day.
Punish that plumbing
I love that clever toad shirt
The lights ... will be shining ... on the ship ... and the space pope ... will leave ... for war ... tomorrow
(you know because of fantasy time travel)
This film was WILD without any prompts or context (beyond figuring it was a film challenge like this).
I know an epidemic sound intro song when I hear it
How did I miss this on my subscription feed!?
I hope you guys do more of these, they are very good.
I love that these are genuinely getting better each time 😂
I feel like this is the format for hatfilms to hit 1 million
So good you guys!! The way these turn out is really hilarious and reminds me of “Cannibal the Musical” every time.
For some reason, this video gabe me cravings for hat films playing a party game with audience participation.
Fan challenge. post-production edits of these films. Or even trailers.
I don't remember seeing this Star Trek episode
The yabo in me loved the heart shaped exhaust tips.
Why wasn't Jorking a prompt?
i love the film challenge videos! the shitty camera gets me every time
This is awesome
MORE OF THESE PLEASE YES YES YES
I feel slime between my cheeks
my bad
I love those!
Ross auditioning Trott reminds me so much of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant in Life's Too Short.
This is iconic af, I love the short films the boiks come up with! The practical effects were top notch, and the alien spacecraft was amazingly realistic.
yes! need more of these
Does craig just walk blindly backwards down the street to film these??? lol
Trott gives off “heroin user” vibes 😂
Love trott's alien hands
Omg tommmm i was so excited he'd be in the film
a truly most excellent experience
love these so much
Love this series
Yay it's my favourite challenge back again 🎉
i love these so much

this is like a highschool project that a teacher would give an A+ 😆
camera work like a seasoned pro lol
hahahhahahaha i love these videos so much

The alien species is a Trottglorpian
These are fantastic
Incredible.
4.6 is absolutely accurate
Loved it 😂❤
God I love these
I love these videos…
masterpiece
These are so fun
Looks like trots got a bowl cut
i love this shjitt
Was the score of 4.6 out of 100?
YES
you guys should play some warhammer or killteam sometime
So... is Preprod the name of the alien or...
So Trott was an AI generated character this whole time? Amazing
Better than a Neil breen movie
when are they going to do a feature length film in 3 hours?
Love it
Is this part of the Neon Musk lore?
