Piano player #1 was Ren. Videography, Ren. Choreography/Sequencing of moves, Ren. Writing, Ren. Only thing Ren could not do was hold the camera and play the piano. Cameraman was a 4 person team; one guy on the actual camera/boom/gimble and helpers. Piano player (after Ren's intro) was a professional piano player; had a reciever for the lapel mic so he could hear/follow Ren without seeing him directly. So much complexity in this and it is genius. There is a rather lengthy behind the scenes video of Money Game 3; it is amazing.
The videography was Samuel Perry-Falvey. They are a dynamic duo! It was a larger film and light crew for this production. Ren is the creative mind and did a lot of the directing and producing, but they had a very short timeframe to get everything built and filmed. That requires a skilled filmmaker. And they’ve worked together for years, so Sam is great at bringing Ren’s vision to life.

In the UK they have far, FAR more strict gun laws. I am sure that has been decommissioned with appropriate parts removed. In the first behind the scenes video by TheWolfJohnson they showed how they even had to have someone else with blanks hand Ren a completely different unloaded magazine, different from the one Ren loaded. That's why the camera zoomed in. You can see him reach across his body once you know about it.

You can see Ren playing the piano and practicing the classical part in Wolf's extended video. The classical part was the only part of the score that Ren did not write.
Watch the behind the scenes made by Wolf Johnson, I think you will LOVE it. The shorter version is on Ren's channel....maybe his second channel. There is a MUCH longer director's cut version on Wolf's channel. I have watched (and loved) both and neither felt as long as they were. You will get to see so many things including the wonderful choreography on the road to realism and gun safety. Perhaps a bullet was left on the table merely to make the loading fit into the syllables of the verse, but I like to think that it was intentional to perhaps draw our attention to the fact that you do not actually hear the gun fire - only click. As for artistry and impact combined with incredible storytelling, I would hold this song, Violet's Tale, and Hi Ren up as examples of excellence in his craft!

I don’t think anyone knew what a great pianist he was until For Joe, his live video he did as a tribute to his friend. Absolutely beautiful. I’d look up the story of that one first though. The meaning behind it is important.
The musicians are not the other actors. In the BTS you see Ren rehearsing with them.
When the camera zooms in on the gun on the table he switches out the loaded mag and hands it off to an extra and the extra gives him an empty one
Wolf Johnson did a documentary of the filming of this particular video, Ren is playing piano all through it. He has other videos featuring his piano as well.

The strings were brought in at the one cut behind the wheelchair. Ren wrote all the music except the classical stuff he played at the begining. He wanted it to be evident that the gun and bullets were a 45 Colt.
If you watch the behind the scenes of this you will see how they worked the gun safety issue. It was definitely thought out and orchestrated.
The gun is a replica and unable to shoot. When Ren is loading the bullets; he actaully takes the cartridge, moves his hand underneath his arm and swaps it for a blank cartridge; he then clicks that into the gun; helper for cameraman had the other cartridge. This was done because the replica gun was originally malfunctioning with a loaded cartridge or something like that. The camera briefly pans down to the gun on the table, but Ren had already begun the swap.
Real gun real ammo, mag swapped out off camera.
It's illegal in the UK to load a decommissioned weapon, which this one was, so the cartridge is swapped for an empty one off camera.

Yes, that's Ren playing piano at the beginning. He also wrote the music for piano and strings, co directed the video and, as usual, did all the music and audio production. Of course, he also wrote those amazing lyrics and gave that incredible performance. It's live but it's not quite one take. They were going for one take but the 'rain machine' kept malfunctioning, so they made a single cut, during the wheelchair section.
As for the gun, it was a replica that couldn't actually fire real ammunition. Even so, it was almost impossible to find one and they had to get a licence for it, despite it not being a real firearm. They also swapped in an empty cartridge, whilst Ren was performing, just to be certain. :)
Btw, the genius of that end sequence! Recreating the chorus from parts 1 and 2 but without singing it! What's more, as it's also a summary of Jimmy's life, you realise Jimmy's whole life and therefore Money Game 3, is an more detailed expansion of that chorus. Ending on the line that immediately precedes the chorus in the first two parts just wraps it up perfectly! :)

Nice reaction, thanks. A good follow-up watch (not as a reaction) is the money game part 3 BTS - extended cut by TheWolfJohnson. Toward the end of that you will see Ren winding down playing that grand piano. Ren is a perfectionist and he spent quite some time getting that gun to work just how he wanted it to.

There is a behind the scenes video where Ren explains that they had to slip him a mag of dummy bullets right after he puts the bullets in the real mag. That's why the camera pans up to his face for a moment.

It is Ren playing the piano at first (Edvard Grieg's famous piano concerto), you may recognise his rings and his hands even, once you are a long-time fan. And if that's not enough, just watch a BTS 🙂 As with guitar, Ren is self-taught on the piano. You see a piano enter his life in his Me vs. me vlog. Before starting to speak, he sings (oos) first Violet's theme (anouncing the theme of child abuse to follow), then the Money Game theme.
This is a live one take until the camera passes behind the wheelchair, and from then on it is again a live one take. The cut was necessary to transfer the brooch with the mike from the jacket lapel into a waterproof container in his tie knot. You can spot it there, when you look at it closely.

There’s a BTS video of how they filmed this. The most notable part is that because of UK laws there has to be two separate magazines. The gun was a real, but disabled firearm. He also loads one magazine with the bullets before then trading it off to an assistant, finally loading a completely empty mag into the gun

Love this so much! How about some more of his stuff from the Sick Boi album? You could just go through the entire album track by track. I don't think you have done many of them yet. Murderer and Animal Flow are both great and have excellent videos for the official album version, AND live acoustic versions that are totally different vibes, enough to make them feel like completely different tracks. Have fun! 17 tracks of 🔥to look forward to if you don't include MG3 which you have just completed. Or you could explore some "baby Ren" and dig up some of the gems from Freckled Angels. Honestly, there is so much gold for you to uncover.
If you watch when he is at the table with the gun he swaps the cartridge of the gun he loads it then just out of shot someone gives him an empty cartridge so the one he holds to his head is a empty gun😊

The violinist accidentally got wet and they had to buy her a new bow. They used corn syrup to make the rain stick to Ren easier. Big kuddos for her not reacting.

I believe he was playing Russian roulette hence one bullet left out. the trigger only made a click sound, so he got the empty chamber, that is also a money game. Just my thoughts 🤷🏼♀️

The gun was real, the cartridge full of real bullets that he loaded was removed off-camera and he loaded an empty cartridge into the gun on camera. There is next to no legal handgun ownership in the UK for the average citizen, so “proper gun etiquette” is unknown. They had to go through piles of red tape to get a gun for the video shoot, then had to promptly hand it back to authorities after the shoot was done.
The piano player that takes over from Ren is a classically trained piano player. There is only 1 cut in the whole song. (However I believe there's two, or it's editing or something but it looks like a cut)
Edit about the cuts, officially they've said there was one cut however to me there's a cut or something at about 1 minute 38 seconds, so watch it from 1min 35 seconds, when he puts the bag down, his arm should be down, however when he pulls the bag off his arm is up and empty, so it's either a cut or something because that isn't one continuous action there's frames missing or something. That's why I believe its a cut. But it might just be editing. I'm absolutely and utterly over thinking this. @Ren can you settle my own argument please? Cos I'm going crazy thinking about it and watching it over and over again lol
EDIT 2: @Renmakesmusic with the bag being taken off of Ren, did you also pull a bag off the camera lense? Because that might explain why some of us think there's 2 cuts? 🤔🤨

It's a real gun that has been "decommissioned", as in it used to be able to fire real bullets, but it has been modified so it can't anymore. Samuel Perry-Falvey explained the details in several interviews. They had to jump through some real hoops just to even get the one they did.
@@hagbard1983 there's some controversy with that. They've only copped to one, the wheelchair cut, but some people have asked Sam and Ren about the earlier cut at the mirror, and they've been really coy when responding, like they don't want to say but they got caught or something.
