Yes, it's live performance. If you watch interviews with Ren and behind the scenes footage, you will find confirmation that there is only a single cut. As you noticed, it's the one where the camera passes behind the wheelchair, everything else is continuous takes. Extraordinary.
Actually the video is not a single cut for sure. Asaide from the well known weelchair cut, if you watch the mirror scene frame by farme you'd see Ren's hand going down twice without going up in between. There might be more cuts. Same as in 'Hi Ren' most likely Ren performed the whole thing end to end several times and then they used different (the best) parts for the final video. However I don't think it matters much if at all. Frankly I don't understand the obsession with the single cuts.
@@barmaleyesyou're mistaken in regards to this song. Or everyone involved is simply lying. Insofar as "Hi Ren" they already said there were multiple cuts with the handheld camera towards the end.
If you’ve seen Ren interviewed about Hi Ren, there is no cut until he stands up when they have to go in for the close up, up until that point which is about 7.30 there is no cut, but to do that close up they wanted ( had to?) use a handheld. Of course you may think he’s lying through his teeth but I don’t think you’ll get much traction.
Watch interview with co-director/cinematograper Samuel Perry-Falvey. He describes one cut behind the wheelchair for the rain set up and the split of roles between him and Ren.
Yes please do the full trilogy in one, it’s 13 min long with 3 tales, Jenny Screech and Violet. True works of art as well, all live, all one shot audio and visual.
If you have an Oculus or any VR head set you can get youtube on, Ren did an actual live performance of the trilogy in front of an audience, and someone filmed it with a 360 camera, it's friggin' awesome!!
As a historian (university) I would like thank you for breaking it down and explaining why CRITICAL THINKING is necessary for societal & human growth. I have too many students, specifically freshmen coming out of “prestigious” school systems who are floored that they will have to write essay exams. In the larger core credit courses like Western Civ, etc., there are around 200 students who are not going to be history majors let alone are within the college of liberal arts & sciences. Many of them are considered “gifted/AP” and they have never written a thesis paper or been challenged to think outside of multiple choice tests. Those type of “tests” are literally are designed to program people to get a predetermined ideology that the society they are raised in wants them to believe is the only right one: the reward is an A. Huge motivator to think like you are expected to, unknowingly being programmed to by the reward of a high grade. I have to spend the first week of each semester teaching how to write a thesis paper and how to not commit plagiarism by not citing sources. I have had students who are ultra conservative come at me with predetermined ideas that when they read the primary sources and write those essays that because I am “a liberal” that they will be given a low grade. I have to explain/show that while there are empirical facts presented and myths busted open, if they can state a thesis/argument backed up with properly cited sources that are based on evidence, they would will get the grade are they want and deserve. In those Intro courses, the goal is to empower them to think for themselves and maintain appropriate respectful boundaries with people who view the world differently based on facts and use their own “voice”. I love that you included that example at the end of two opposing mindsets having a civil respectful discourse. My hardest courses are when I am teaching my specific area of history: religions. There is always the angry atheist and the evangelical wearing mental blinders yelling at each other across the room. Department policy is that we are instructing on the factual evidence of the evolution of a religion not the existence of god as the topic. It is s a history course - not a seminary. They get two warnings and they are out of the class on the third (Oh and how I and other instructors HATE the paperwork and going to “college court”) In those courses, I do not reveal my own faith statement until the end. Most are floored that I am an atheist since they did not understand that respecting each other’s opinions/faith statements is necessary for humans to not become a blip in the evolution of this planet. As an undergraduate, I went to a university down the block where G. Gordon Liddy had an afternoon radio show. I would listen to him and even call in when he got his facts wrong. Having such a juxtaposed value system to mine, I found it forced me to critically examine my own beliefs and values. It absolutely inflames me that I have watched social media through algorithms evolve to weed out people/ads that do not match with my beliefs. As an old punk/alt girl in her 50’s I am so excited to see artists like Ren challenging to status quo of genres/ideas/subjects that are socially taboo and not placate the “sheep” humans are all to often programmed to be so they feel accepted. As social animals the small bands of humans migrating around this planet had to be in accord with each other or they died. With at least 8 billion of us now and in every corner of the globe, that mentality of sheep being guided by a shepherd is no longer is a necessity for survival. I see art in all its forms as being a check on this tendency to follow along without ever learning to understand why we carry the beliefs we have without question. Thank you again for your willingness to shake people out of their complacency.
No Grammy. No Oscar. No Emmy. No label means no awards. [ after all they are rewarding themselves ] Independent . Winner in two categories. Best song and best music video. International Music Awards. Happy Birthday Ren.
It won two categories - the top prize, Best Video, and also Best Director. It is a well known international festival which attracts many entries. Not a bad start, to take the top spot.
Great reaction! Well, Ren has explained on his twitch stream this only had 1 cut! and that the entire thing was recorded live, also a filmmaker explained on his YT this is a one-shot video! There is also a behind-the-scene documentary by a guy called Wolf Johnson. Ren and the MV director Samuel are bona fide GENIUS!
You can watch them filming this live as it is being filmed, there is ONE cut only and that is the wheelchair scene, only because, he had ONE suit and didn't want to get it wet only to have to retake it again,
Not sure about that. I've made a frame by frame analysis of the part where he removes the bag from his head in front of the mirror in Premiere, and it does not match. Unless some frames where lost in the editing it is definitely two different scenes. But still very well done.
@@1individeo Yeah, I think there was a cut there while they stopped him being a sweaty mess under the hood because it was s blisteringly hot day, but I think they continued with the same take, just edited a couple of minutes out of it. Whereas the wheelchair part was distinctly separate because they only had one go at that.
I dont understand if there is just the one cut, what is going on with the level of them liquid in the bottle of alcohol. if you watch closely, as he moves, all of the sudden the level of the brown liquid goes from 3/4 of a bottle to about a quarter of a bottle. has to be a cut. its easy to see once you know what to look for
I was hollowed out for like 3 days after I saw this. I have two kids, a boy and a girl. While I know to teach my daughter to be vigilant about people who might take advantage of her, this made me realize how boys can often be corrupted by ambition and societal pressure in general. I felt so heartbroken for little Jimmy and the man he could have been. On an interview, Ren said that Jimmys dad was written as a personification of the most insidious parts of the American Dream. While Ren is an incredibly talented musician, I’m not sure if I’ve come across such a talented writer in my lifetime. I’m thrilled you gave ren a second chance ❤
This was brilliantly filmed! Ren once again worked with Samuel Perry-Falvey, who filmed Hi Ren, The Tale of Jenny & Screech, Money Game part 1, and others. They’ve mastered the live performance videos. This was the first video where they had more than a minuscule budget. So they were able to bring in better lighting, sound, etc. It is a live performance. Ren moves the high powered lapel mic to his tie to protect it from the water. I loved the closing scene with the strings. It’s so beautiful yet tragic. There is an extended behind the scenes feature that was filmed by WolfJohnson that is worth checking out. It shows how much preparation went into this project! Ren has surrounded himself with an incredible team that allows his creativity to flourish!
A reactor once commented that he didn’t see Ren loosen his tie. Creatively, he spins the globe to to draw and keep your attention while he loosens his tie. It’s very easy to see once you know it to look for. 😎 He’s definitely a one of a kind individual!🌺
@@bvanritbergen great find! I did not. Just knew the world stopped spinning when he got the call as all our worlds would. Rens thinking is another level
he was also in a band called "The Big Push" have a look at some of his busking performances "I shot the sheriff/Road to zion" (red braces version)........
I have just binge watched a bunch of your videos on Ren. I’m probably about your age and agree with the nonplayer character scenario. My children are teenagers and young adults, and I have tried to hammer into their heads to think for themselves. It is so important that we don’t just go off of what others think or what our initial thoughts are. We have to dig deeper. That’s what I think of when I think of sheep. Ren also says in a few of his songs that we exile the shepherds and follow the sheep. And that’s true if there’s a leader and we don’t like one thing that they’ve said, we exiled them, and follow the herd. Thanks for your video.
I love that Ren is tricking even directors and cinematographers into thinking that there’s more cuts than there actually are. As folks have already said, there’s only one cut, behind the wheelchair near the end, to set up the string quartet near the end and to clear the set of people, who were all hiding behind camera after their parts through the whole first part. The degree of planning, choreography, and rehearsal required for this is astounding. Also amazing to keep in mind that this is all actually being sung and played live, and not acted to a recording. Just truly gorgeous works. IMO it deserves an Oscar for best Short Film.
Thank you for giving Ren another chance, there is SO MUCH to him. Honestly, you've barely scratched the surface. The Tales of Jenny and Screech (Full. It's 13mins) shows low budget, 1 shot, lyrical and reverb GENINIUS.
There is only 1 cut, behind the wheelchair. If you watch the longer version of the behind the scenes video you can watch them filming. They had a camera that could spin all the way around which is how they got the piano shot and the globe. The other day Ren also posted on his Instagram stories another shot of them filming the mirror, so you get a shot behind and above him. They spend a lot of time planning things out, and film things over and over until they get their one shot videos. Ren and Sam have talked a lot about their process in streams and interviews.
I just wrote a long ass comment about how there's 1 cut but it looks like 2 with the mirror and I couldn't be sure. I watched the BTS and don't remember seeing the section with the mirror. I'll have to check out the clip. I've argued a bunch with ppl that the shot is possible without the cut and that the cut serves no purpose really. A ton of ppl have been adamant it obviously is done with a cut. It's an interesting thought about how perception can be forced intentionally or not 1 way or another. The behind the scenes, I went back and looked, actually has the behind the scenes camera cut at this exact point as well.
@@Lloocii I dont understand if there is just the one cut, what is going on with the level of them liquid in the bottle of alcohol. if you watch closely, as he moves, all of the sudden the level of the brown liquid goes from 3/4 of a bottle to about a quarter of a bottle. has to be a cut. its easy to see once you know what to look for
@@jameseyman9078It's Ironic that you mention "it's easy when you know what to look for", because you don't. Watch the bottle again. It starts at around 1cm below the label. He dumps some out another cm to an inch. When he spins and the bottle looks near empty what your actually seeing is the label facing front and in the last couple frames he spins the other 180 degrees and the bottle is back to a few cm below the top of the label. There's no cut there. If you hadn't tried to be superior about your "observational skills" I'd cut you some slack but I'm not a fan of the pompous. Also, if you read my comment you'd see that I didn't say there was for sure 1 cut I said there was potentially more. Who knows? Not you though that much has been determined.
It was live, one take from start to finish... and yes Ren was playing the liano. His talent and insight is insane. This is pure art. There is a behind th3 scens video, showing how they did it in one take.
The piano arrangement is a Canon. That is, it starts as a single, simple phrase, then continues to add to it with each repetition of the sequence, but always with the original phrase running through it. Another example of Ren's brilliance at work. I do highly recommend the BTS film by The Wolf Johnson, and the analysis and BTS by Knox Hill. An incredible film, and an incredible production.
He’s our new Shakespeare 🇬🇧!! Great reaction, glad you appreciate it. Ren also talks in a couple of his interviews about the importance of bringing extremes together and creating bridges for meaningful discussions to reduce the effects of polarisation. I for one sometimes want to listen to people I instinctively think I would likely disagree with as usually no one extreme has all the answers.
The guy is. GENIUS, he is a modern day Shakespearian bard. If he was on main stream media he would be a superstar. True;y a great that will probably get true recognition after he is gone. Talented beyond reason
Thanks for your thoughts on this masterpiece! 👍 ( In the beginning Ren IS playing the Piano, he also composed the music for his Performance: for the piano and for the strings!). What I like so much about Ren is that he doesn't point his finger at the audience, he is very aware that it's not just US that is meant, he knows very well that he himself is also a participant in this game! Everything he does in Money Game 1, 2 and 3: "Perceive the situation, that's how I see the whole thing and now - maybe that will make you, us, think about it!" Btw: This video was recorded in the UK while he was taking a short break from his treatments in Canada, with the approval of his doctors. He is still sick and receiving treatment; health-wise he has only reached 70% of his health. Imagine Ren at 100% of his abilities. I mentioned before that his illness shouldn't play a role when it comes to his music, I still think so, but because of that I think he deserves even more respect! Thanks again 👍👏🤝🙋♀️
@@supertuscans9512 I have no experience with autoimmune diseases, thank God, I realize that it's not easy to treat - but I always had the hope that the special treatments could ultimately lead to Ren's recovery 🫶
@@BirgittHGer Mine too. Yes it's dark but the subject matter is dark so it stands to reason that the song is dark. As someone who suffers with a serious health condition, I can relate to what he's saying about pain. He manages to turn something so horrendous into something beautiful and that's incredible to me. This man has taken his suffering and created beautiful music out of it before but this one really resonated with me personally. It brought me to tears more than once but they were probably tears that needed to be released.... Thank you @Renmakesmusic for helping me let those tears out... 💕
And to think he still hasn’t reacted to The Tales, right? The Tales of Jenny and Screech (Full Version) should probably be next. Though Ren and Chinchilla - How to be me Live would also be fun to see him react to and dig into.
One thing about REN is he is completely transparent about who he is and how he does his art. His own motto is "a rising tide lifts all ships". Check out his 1 million subscriber video of his definition of sucess. Ren is self taught classically on the piano. Hes self taught playing guitar from listening to jimmi hendrix abd pausing it ton copy the sound. He taught himself in numbers and patterns. He is also self taught singer. Watch his busking videos. He has been making his own music beat producing editing everything since he was 12. Sitting at festivals with his boombox selling his mixed demo tapes. He does a complete behind the scenes breakdown of how he did this video. THERE IS ONLY ONE CUT. its behind the wheelchair. They had to make the cut bc Ren had to have is mic switched out of his jacket to a waterproof mic in his shirt. Regardless of opinions on the technical aspect the more important thing is the message/warning.
According to Ren, he stated in an live stream that video had just 1 single cut due to logistics = the moment when the camera was surrounding the wheelchair and Ren is then sitting in front of the string ensemble. So basically 2 one takes put together. And all was live performed as well.
Subscribed because A) Great reaction 👍 And B) Can't wait for you to get to more Ren. Specifically, Genesis, The Hunger and Power. And their band The Big Push All bangers with fantastic videos 🔥
This video won the International Music Video for best video and Ren and Samuel won for best director. He is changing the game because he is able to do exactly what he wants and he doesn't care if the "industry" wouldn't let him do a 9 minute video or if it's not "radio" ready. Ren doesn't want everyone to agree with him - just think and look beyond your bubble.
Ren is just amazing!!! Great reaction! Love watching someone like you that understands the whole thing! Ren is very special. Self taught on guitar and piano!!!
I agree with you in the way you looked at that meme. I feel like so much of what builds a belief is reactionary even to the extent that people will form an alliance with group think avoid the painful experience of being outcast. Truth is everywhere. Lies are everywhere. There is no possible way any group sits in 100% truth or righteousness. People are so uncomfortable with uncertainty and yet in reality there isn’t ONE solution to every problem. I’m glad you clarified the money quote. Someone clarified that to me and it really is a life changing perspective shift. Great job.
Run has many different influences and he's got a great team to provide or clear concept of his vision and it's amazing. And how's you said starting to get it reset? It's a performance. You're right. So what most people don't understand is what the performance is was called the art so it's called performance art but because of the stories from beginning, middle and end is also known as f*** music. I just saw him to be a homeless guy and Gregory, Alberta Canada but even I saw that on UA-cam and figured it out😮
If you notice, in the last scene, everyone has vacated at the end of the warehouse except Jimmy as a 5 year old. The age when he was a complete innocent who hadn't been influenced by his father.
What are you talking about? This trait was innate within him. His first words were ‘mine, mine gimme’. His father simply reinforced his natural proclivities.
@@supertuscans9512 That trait is in us all from birth, as well as all other animals. You're not born with a natural trait of putting other before yourself. So, in that regard, no child is 'innocent' if you're taking it to those extremes. In the human 'system' it is normally the parents (or equivalent) who shape this trait into something acceptable for human society. Jimmy's father didn't shape his trait, he reinforced the animal instinct to claim everything as his own.
@@supertuscans9512all children are born "mine...gimme " it's the parent's job to teach right from wrong, good from bad, how to and how not to etc. This was in response to davidjames
I’d say that we’re all born with the trait as a necessity. Still, it is definitely stronger in some than others and on top of that it is then conditioned by influences and experiences, combined with the level of introspective intelligence and conscientiousness that an individual applies to their actions and their development.
Very well said and very well illustrated thank you. Ren's message is strong in this trilogy your message to round out your reactions is similarly impactful.
This was done live with voice enhancements done after. It was a 2 shot with the cut behind the wheelchair. Because of the smoke, and the only take try they had for the rain. UA-camr Wolf Johnson was flown out and did a behind the senses. Knox Hill also come out, and has some behind the senses. Very cool how they did it. I know this is late response, but thought I'd add it anyway.
I love how the narrator removes the rope (noose?) tying the bag (money bag?) on his head and looks in the mirror in the beginning. It matches the call (lyrics) in Part 1, "But we like to point the blame, blame, blame, blame / It's easier to blame / But point the mirror at ourselves / We're all part of this old money game." I also like that Ren includes himself ("ourselves") and, again, later when he says, "And his example is exaggerated versions of me, and it's a version of him / And it's a version of she, and it's a version of you / There's no escaping the blame, the way we live, it's parasitic." (Also enjoy how the story of Jimmy at 1, 2, 3, 4 years old matches Jimmy at 40, 41, 42, 43. Clever.) The whole MG series is refreshing and creative. I think you'd like his Tales trilogy as well. You won't regret watching the full 13-minute video in one sitting. The 3 songs need to be watched in order Jenny->Screech->Violet. Great reaction. So glad you gave him another chance. Another fun one-take video is Ren's "Animal Flow," which is not as deep on the surface, seemingly just a boppin' rap. (Richer and deeper if you're familiar with Orwellian thoughts, which the video furthers beyond the lyrics. 🤌🤌🤌)
Only one cut sir and that occurs at the wheelchair transition simply to remove the lapel mic from the suit to the knot in the tie and waterproof it. Go watch the MG3 BTS and you will see how it is done, and in particular the camera they are using. MG3 just won Best Music Video at the International Music Video Awards (IMVA), and Best Director, plus an Honourable Mention for Best Videography. Samuel Perry-Falvey is the master behind the video and also shot MG Pt 1, Hi Ren, The Tales of Jenny and Screech, If you check out Ren's "Power" music video you will see Sam driving the car and jamming out with Ren. Great to see your reaction to Ren thus far. Well done.
Your reaction and feedback was great! I had never heard of NPC and I totally got what you were trying to explain. I love how Ren inspires great conversations. I’m so glad you gave him a second chance. EDIT I had to come back to add there is a comment where someone says they had to turn off at JR. Perfect example of exactly what you were trying to explain with the judgemental programming. It’s unfortunate because so many people miss the opportunity to listen to each other😢
The problem is guardrails are put in place beginning as small children. We send them to schools to memorize and regurgitate tons of information. The problem is that we as parents need to teach our children at the appropriate age to then shuffle all of this information and everything that comes to them through life and live your truth based upon your facts. I think it is fabulous that Ren is able to speak his truth freely and we are all along for the ride. I never would have listened to them if it wasn't for The Couch. Thank you. (I'm 62 and in my mid to late 20's I worked as a disc jockey. I was a rocker who played everything. ) My play keeps growing. 💜
You wanna see even more pressure in a continuous shot? Ren's _Animal Flow_ video (not the live version) is by far the most complicated continuous take he has done so far. So many moving parts!
There is actually only 1 cut, and it is for the final sequence with the string quartet. It would have been done as 1 take, but they were concerned about the time it would take for the floor to dry if they reset. No cuts at the beginning. It is Ren at the piano first. The person at the wall is lurking off-shot. You can see a behind the scenes video where they show everything, and the hidden details that most people will never notice (like the specific choice of the gun).
I appreciate the commentary so very much. The point I heard in both Rosco's message and Ren's from what I've heard Ren say, is that we must start thinking for ourselves. It's harder today with 24 hour infotainment but we need to try. It's great that people don't agree with everything that's in this series. That's the beauty of this. It sparks conversations. It's one of the things I've heard Ren say about his music. I have to force myself sometimes to do this. It's okay to disagree with your "team". One cut or three isn't really important. It doesn't take away from everything else. And yes, the BTS of this video, short and long versions, are so interesting into the process of this part 3.
Really enjoyed watching your reactions to this piece of Art and listening to your outlook very interesting and good to see appreciation of all the hard work put into this.. Yes they cut behind the wheelchair because of the rain machine and waterproofing mic and moving to his tie and he only had one suit to wear so needed to get it right. Wolf Johnson has some backstage footage to this if you want to learn more ❤✌️
Thanks 🙏 Roscoe great analysis of #REN in action. We are dealing with a unique artist doing his own thing. I love it. Wishing you every success with growing your channel. Peace and love from Australia mate ❤
There is a great BTS video of the shoot. Very interesting. The set looks so cold because of the blue tones but it was actually done in summer and was super hot in that building. Especially for the actors having to wear hoods.
Totally agree with the ending sentiment. The world is not black and white it is so many different shades of grey and colors. Reminds me of the saying that we don't listen to understand, we listen to respond. We need to understand and at least entertain different ideas.
Yes wow. Amazing, extraordinary, all those type of words. When I first watched this video it was on the premiere. I cried when I saw the shot after the cut. It was breathtaking. It worth a F word. But so does Ren. He is all those words too. 😘
There is only one transition and its a time transition of a few seconds, and half way through! Even his dress is disguised as a camera movement and shift of focus! Around table to phone call! If you look you can see the movement to move tie etc! Hes masterful
He said only cut was the wheelchair part and he has a lapel Mic. There are a couple cameras shooting at the same time but it’s actually only 2 cuts. I believe he said it was four takes whereas MG pt 1 was almost 200 takes
At the end you don't hear a shot. Maybe he was cheated when the gun and ammunition were sold to him, so he got junk for money and in the end he can't even kill himself. So he would have to suffer even longer.
Ren and Sam won the Budapest International Music Awards 'Best video' and 'Best Director' with this one, and an honourable mention for production, I believe.
It's completely live. If you do a bit of research into this, you'll see there's only ONE cut (which you spotted). It's when the camera goes behind the wheelchair. At that point the lapel mic was switched to the tie, so Ren could remove the jacket near the end. There are no cuts whatsoever before that, as far as I've been able to find out!
@@Oitsugina93 on the contrary, I'm pretty sure Samuel remarked in an interview about how the mask drop on this take looked like a transition cut but wasn't.
did you happen to catch that Jimmy's story is the chorus from the first two parts of Money Game? Rain, data manipulation, his drug habit, and of course, the mirror. also, his name is quite significant, but that's a tale for another video.
You mentioned how haunting the first vocal line is that Ren sings in the mirror - the one he starts out with - the first 4 bars of it are a variation on the first 4 bars he sings on the hospital bed in Violet's Tale, after he's done his instrumental intro. (which he had already repurposed for the first 4 bars he sings in "For Joe" - Ren's indicated a few times in interviews/on stream how much Violet's Tale means to him, and his willingness to pull a line of music from it into completely unrelated material underlines that, to me... tho to throw another tangent out there, I'd still say Violet is "connected" to For Joe & MG3 in *feel.* The inevitable tragedy of the stories, marching forward to their horrific conclusions... I think the mood of Violet's melody is probably super powerful for Ren) After he sings a variation on the first 4 bars of Violet's melody into the mirror, he does the first 4 bars of the melody he sings in the "closing" line of his Money Game melody - the part that has no lyrics, he just sings them on "oooo." And then at the beginning of Scene 3 when the string quartet begins to play a melodic line that starts to "move" faster than the first sustained notes they play (over the lyrics "Jimmy followed the code inside the land of the free"), it's the violin taking up the Money Game melody while the viola & cellos play their long sustained notes underneath.
I really appreciated your commentary on MG3 and your emphasis on how people have to learn to think for themselves and question popular narratives. REN does seem to have a natural ability to create pieces that make us think deeply ❤
I thought you might enjoy this behind-the-scenes of the making of Money Game 3. ua-cam.com/video/CdEFYPef7RU/v-deo.html OR the extend version: ua-cam.com/video/HIjF5g5eDDU/v-deo.html
Ren and his videographer, Sam, say there is only one cut in this - behind the chair before the quartet. This cut was due to using the rain effect and not having time for the floor to dry out to redo. Everything else is continuous with no cuts. This is a style that Ren and Sam have developed and perfected. it is one of their video trademarks. Money Game 1 was done 187 times before they were satisfied. This team is OCD, perfectionistic. They do not compromise. And it is without studio, label financing. They do it on the cheap, themselves. Ren's background of busking in Brighton, making live videos without autotune or retakes inspires him to make it live, one take almost every time, when possible. Love your reactions and analysis.
Thanks for the very interesting reaction. I think Ren is criticizing humanities GREED for money and power across the MG series. It is not a criticism of any system (capitalism or communism etc- because greed exists in all systems) Ren is highlighting the insanity around what some humans are prepared to do to gain money and power - in complete disregard for their fellow human and the planet as a whole. In MG3 Ren cleverly introduces us to Jimmy a very relatable character. And in a 9 minute video we watch this imaginary man’s life unfolding- firstly his stellar ascent followed by his decline which snowballs as his moral compass erodes. Jimmy is an example of what the unfettered thirst for money and power will lead us to. I love how Ren points out that we are all guilty of this to differing degrees and he is trying to draw our attention to the fact that when perspective evolves, money and power can’t make us happy- alone they are empty and meaningless dreams, hence Jimmy lands up alone and empty, ultimately choosing to end himself. Ren is a generational talent and this was masterful story telling. Loved it.
To me the gun is metaphor for the money game, so once you decide to pull the trigger and play, you basically condem yourself to not having a life at all in the end; you’re left with nothing truly meaningful.
@@samuelsomething6059100%. And there are probably hundreds of other layers- both visual and lyrical that we could discuss and dissected. I truly believe that Rens work will be studied and appreciated for his incredible artistic contribution. I believe he is an artist made up of Picasso combined with Bob Dylan. And therefore on a whole new level. His work is completely mind blowing. The MG series was actually much more than just these three songs. As part of the series, Ren held a week long competition where he gave away money to the person who solved a riddle each day. Each riddle was linked to one of the Seven Sins. Culminating in Greed. The riddles were so complex he forced the community to solve them together as a collective “hive mind” - this was Ren trying to show how he believes man can change course, but in order to do that we have to solve problems together - based on a new political and economic platform- something not even invented yet. This is because no one human can have the answers, our problems are way too complex. Anyway, the riddles culminated in the release of the video Eden. If you have not watched that, it is well worth your time. @Hexenkind1 has a playlist for the Games series. When viewed in their totally, The MG series will, I believe be viewed as his greatest masterpiece to date - surpassing Hi Ren…. the incredible art piece that most people seem to talk about.
You can watch it being filmed live for much of it in the behind the scenes video diary ( the full version) filmed by The wolf Johnson.
🪽🤍🪽
Watch interview with co-director/cinematograper Samuel Perry-Falvey. He describes one cut behind the wheelchair for the rain set up and the split of roles between him and Ren.
He uses silence so masterfully.
You’ve seen nothing till you’ve seen The Tales of Jenny and Screech and Violet - all live one takes - and jaw dropping…..
Please do them in order and altogether
Thank you for sharing your perspective and input here.
REN should have won every single grammy last night in every category
Ren videos say more in 9 minutes than Hollywood directors convey in two hours

No Grammy. No Oscar. No Emmy. No label means no awards. [ after all they are rewarding themselves ]
Independent . Winner in two categories. Best song and best music video. International Music Awards.
Happy Birthday Ren.
I'm glad that you appreciate him .. that's all I have to say.
This video won the best video award at the recent International Music Video Awards. Also recieved a nod for cinematography.
Yes but in Eastern Europe somewhere. It hasn’t received the accolades from the industry it warrants.
So the first bit is one continuous take, but with a cut, then the next cut at the wheelchair begins another take.
@@MissMeKate that makes more sense🧐
I dont understand if there is just the one cut, what is going on with the level of them liquid in the bottle of alcohol. if you watch closely, as he moves, all of the sudden the level of the brown liquid goes from 3/4 of a bottle to about a quarter of a bottle. has to be a cut. its easy to see once you know what to look for
mindblowingly brilliant
He’s definitely a one of a kind individual!🌺
The amazing thing also about the globe spinning is that it stopped as he get the phone call about his dad. Showing his world stopped right there.
@@B-Renthesixfivewhiteguy But did you even notice the globe stops on Cuba...
They could only do one shot with the water - hence the cut on the wheel chair
Yup watch the BTS
@wolfjohnson has the BTS of this shoot on his page. It’s super cool how they did everything.
Money game one and two…. Oh Rain, rain, rain…. *rains in money game 3
The guy is. GENIUS, he is a modern day Shakespearian bard. If he was on main stream media he would be a superstar. True;y a great that will probably get true recognition after he is gone. Talented beyond reason
All of this is a one take. The behind the scenes show how they managed it. So incredible
Everything he does in Money Game 1, 2 and 3:
"Perceive the situation, that's how I see the whole thing and now - maybe that will make you, us, think about it!"
Btw:
This video was recorded in the UK while he was taking a short break from his treatments in Canada, with the approval of his doctors.
Sadly for him that will probably never happen. His life is most likely going to be a fight to prevent regression.
@@supertuscans9512 I have no experience with autoimmune diseases, thank God, I realize that it's not easy to treat - but I always had the hope that the special treatments could ultimately lead to Ren's recovery

Maybe one of REN’s most profound lines is I think from 7 sins or wicked ways, when he says “We exile the shepherds and follow the sheep’.
Seven Sins- dark - but great, great Song! One of my favorites from his Album, besides MG3!
Live performance, only one cut and that only because of the water at the end. This is truly a masterpiece. Fantastic reaction ❤❤
I'm so pleased Sam and Ren recently won a prestigious award recently for this amazing piece of art, a lot more to come!
keep dipping into ren, ther is so much more to see and love
According to Ren, he stated in an live stream that video had just 1 single cut due to logistics = the moment when the camera was surrounding the wheelchair and Ren is then sitting in front of the string ensemble. So basically 2 one takes put together. And all was live performed as well.
His video of this song deserves awards
Ren and Sam just won the International Music Video Award just about a week ago.
So much inspiration oozing out of Ren's video.

The only transition is behind the wheel chair but is all live. Ren mixes and produces the sound levels after shooting.
It matches the call (lyrics) in Part 1, "But we like to point the blame, blame, blame, blame / It's easier to blame / But point the mirror at ourselves / We're all part of this old money game." I also like that Ren includes himself ("ourselves") and, again, later when he says, "And his example is exaggerated versions of me, and it's a version of him / And it's a version of she, and it's a version of you / There's no escaping the blame, the way we live, it's parasitic."
(Also enjoy how the story of Jimmy at 1, 2, 3, 4 years old matches Jimmy at 40, 41, 42, 43. Clever.)
The whole MG series is refreshing and creative.
How's about at the end where the rain scene is basically acting out the chorus of MG1&2? And one of the string instruments is playing the tune.
I'm overwhelmed with deep emotions. Damn!!! I agree...he's brilliant.
Well done.
Ren was the one playing the piano. He is very gifted playing the piano and guitar.
The transition behind the wheel chair was to change his mic from his jacket to his tie I believe. Because he takes his jacket off after that shot.
He’s one of a kind.
Loving you takes on Ren's music and your perspective you earned my sub....
Power tie nice catch. The renegades are coming to visit us now
There is actually only 1 cut, and it is for the final sequence with the string quartet.
Thank you what you said at the end need to by heard.
Wolf Johnson has some backstage footage to this if you want to learn more ❤✌️
I think he said they did a chair cut because it took so long to reset (drying the floor/ren himself, etc) after they dropped the water.

There is a great BTS video of the shoot. Very interesting. The set looks so cold because of the blue tones but it was actually done in summer and was super hot in that building. Especially for the actors having to wear hoods.
Great reaction and insightful. Appreciate your comments to do their own own research when forming opinions. Dont be sheep.
Love it. It’s truth to this world. ❤
I can't wait for you to discover his newest stuff!
I love watching your reactions!
Ren has a huge catalog of videos in all different genres...raggae, rock, blues, pop, storytelling (Shakespearian Bard style) etc !
So he would have to suffer even longer.
damn......... another level....
Loved your point of view and message at the end. Well said.

I think they acknowledged 2 cuts later. You can see it when he pulls the mask off.

Love your comments after the video.❤❤ Hope you do more Ren. The Tale of Jenny and Screech pretty dark but amazing. There is so much more. ❤
I think the mood of Violet's melody is probably super powerful for Ren)
After he sings a variation on the first 4 bars of Violet's melody into the mirror, he does the first 4 bars of the melody he sings in the "closing" line of his Money Game melody - the part that has no lyrics, he just sings them on "oooo." And then at the beginning of Scene 3 when the string quartet begins to play a melodic line that starts to "move" faster than the first sustained notes they play (over the lyrics "Jimmy followed the code inside the land of the free"), it's the violin taking up the Money Game melody while the viola & cellos play their long sustained notes underneath.
I really appreciated your commentary on MG3 and your emphasis on how people have to learn to think for themselves and question popular narratives. REN does seem to have a natural ability to create pieces that make us think deeply ❤
Beautiful message by you at the end of this, and I thank you for it. You’re a wise man.
I thought you might enjoy this behind-the-scenes of the making of Money Game 3. ua-cam.com/video/CdEFYPef7RU/v-deo.html

Loved it.
The person Jimmy most trembles in real life is probably Hunter Biden.
I like this reaction. Thank you for this. I also like the intelligent conversation at the end
Unsurprisingly, they won a film award in the UK for this.
Great reaction to a true GENIUS 👍
Liked & subscribed in anticipation of you reacting to more Ren
Cheers pal 🍻😀
Song was 9:19, same length as Hi Ren. Ren is a unique person and an alien. A lot of people think Ren can't play piano 🤣
