- Song: Time of No Reply by Nick Drake
/Video by Sophie Flanders./
Summer was gone and the heat died down
And Autumn reached for her golden crown
I looked behind as I heard a sigh
But this was the time of no reply.
The sun went down and the crowd went home
I was left by the roadside all alone
I turned to speak as they went by
But this was the time of no reply.
The time of no reply is calling me to stay
There is no hello and no goodbye
To leave there is no way.
The trees on the hill had nothing to say
They would keep their dreams till another day
So they stood and thought and wondered why
For this was the time of no reply.
Time goes by from year to year
And no one asks why I am standing here
But I have my answer as I look to the sky
This is the time of no reply.
The time of no reply is calling me to stay
There`s no hello and no goodbye
To leave there is no way.
did this man write anything I don't fall in love with.
The perks of being a wallflower brought me here 😍😍😍😍
Isabela Leal me too!! grate book
Yep. I just loved it from the minute i started to read .
did't notice it on the movie. great soundtrack on the movie though.
I can't believe I'm 45 years old and I've just discovered this brilliance?! what a sad sad story too of a brilliant talent and an obviously lost person? Truly lovely, wish he hadn't left the earth so soon.
Going through the list. Best winter ever.
First heard Nick Drake - One Of these Things 1st. about 5 yrs ago, He is one of my all time fave musicians. Its to bad he left the world early. he would have made many great albums!
this voice....oh, this voice
This guitar... oh, this guitar.
@@gillesserrigny6324 ohhh yes, pure magic
@@giovannisugonatoli Magic, yes, it is !
One of the great Nick Drake songs, so relatable .
I cant deal with how amazing every single one of these mixtape songs are
The fact that people are discovering this song from a book, gives a Nick Drake fan a bitter-sweet feeling. I hope you all find joy in all his other songs like we do.
"That book" has a name. The perks of being a wallflower has inspired a lot of people. And is still inspiring people to this day.
thank you sophie..this song gives me the feeling of going..into the wild..in freedom
I love the fact that all the songs from the "One Winter" playlist are older songs that most people who read the book haven't heard of before... And now because of Perks these songs are all getting recognition. It really makes Charlie seem that much more genuine. :)
Never been a UA-cam groupie but Sophie this is my absolute go to film for this glorious track.
Thanks Charlie, you have great taste in music.
What a great book! Thank you Stephen Chbosky for the great journey that is The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I really relate to Charlie.
(I feel a sense of unity)
I couldn't get into The Smiths or Nick Drake until the read Perks.. Honestly, thank you Charlie
Reading Perks of Being a Wallflower now. Charlie may be a wallflower, but he has an infinitely epic taste in music. Thanks for the playlist. :-) I'm glad to be listening. :-P
I've never heard of perks of being a wallflower. But I don't think it matters how people come by an artist. In fact we're lucky that there are so many ways to be exposed to great music, even if it's by virtue of an advertisement or an otherwise inconsequential film. For once it is the arrival, and not the journey, that matters.
I love being English sometimes, this song is so rural. Drake is the best
Dear people who read perks,
Don't just listen to these songs go forth and listen to the rest of this album. You were just given the gift of great music.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is an amazing book.
someone who understood his music made this video..Thank you..I have no words to express this feeling
Nick Drake for ever !!!
yeah i totally agree. I loved it and I was surprised with the whole MTV thing.
going through and downloading all the songs charlie suggested, truly one of the best books i have ever read.
my husband loves this song and always has,a great song for the end of the night xx I love you emil xx
Well I read it when I was around 13 and I'll be 26 this year. So I was too young to have heard and loved Nick Drake before then :)
Funny you should say that, thats exactly why im looking up this song. That book is absolutely fantastic, ive just finished my second time reading it.
So glad Perks brought me to discover such good music! Listening to albums and similar music has totally changed me! :)
I've never met Charlie, but judging from the top comments, he sounds like a really awesome person!
i loved reading the Perks! this song is great
It's off a book "Perks of being a wallflower" That this song is mentioned in. It has recently been converted into a movie starring Emma Watson. I have never read the book, but the movie has changed my life. Definately for the better!
i think i may shed a tear if i hear this during the perks of being a wallflower movie
Such a beautiful, poetic song.
Charlie, Charlie, Charlie...
he makes it feel okay. any situation, good or bad. he just makes it all okay.♥
The name is of the book is "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", and actually it was published in 1999. Still, if people listened to music because of its modernity and not listen to it because it was "sooo two years ago" most people wouldn't actually be here hence this song was released in 1986.
as i listen to this song, i'm reading the poem charlie read to patrick on page 70. and it was perfect.
thank you, perks and steven chbosky.
Incredible lyrics...
I feel infinite so thank you Charlie.
I read the perks and I'm suuch a freak that I searched all the songs from the mixtape Charlie gave to Patrick... God bless Stephen Chbosky
I'm currently reading it :D That's why I'm here (:
hahaha
me too! I wish I'd have discovered those songs before though
***** Yes!! hahaha and i also wanna read" How to kill a mockinbird, and all the books he read during the book! I know instead if writing to my Diary, I write to Friend haha :)
***** haha what do you mean exaclty?
God bless Stephen Chbosky and his wonderful book for bringing me here
Since we're all talking about Perks of Being a Wallflower, I'll join in...
Charlie is the sweetest, most sensitive, most insightful male protagonist I've read in all my years of reading Young Adult fiction.
And I'd have to say I agree. I do wish and hope that he is real somewhere...
Love tihs song, is perfect!
Dear charlie,
You have helped me so much to feel infinite. Thank you
love always
a friend
Thank you Charlie 💙
Charlie, thank you for opening my eyes to such a great range of artists
Thanks, Charlie. For everything.
I'm 15 and I'm not here because of Charlie ✌ I love Nick so much... "Pink moon" and "Place to be" are definitly my fav 💓
loved reading the perks! and love this song!
They'll all know that you were here when you're gone.
the perks of being a wallflower.
very beautiful
Thank you Charlie...
I like that I found Nick Drake before Charlie, but it's great all the same. Here's to anyone who related as much as I did with the line about not sleeping with the girl you could have at the party. Take from it what you will. Be a filter, not a sponge. :]
I love how "Dear Prudence" is in the related videos.
OMG I LOVE THE PERK COMMENTS
Loved this and Nick Drake before I read Perks, but it's still a pretty great read. :)
i think it's amazing that some of us were brought together because of charlie .. (: yes, i looked all of the songs up.
Wow! So many Perks people haha. I know this song from a mix CD from a friend. Forgot it was in that book, though!
wonderful taste in music, mr. chbosky
Perfect video.
Thank you, Charlie.
it shouldnt matter how you got here. (even though perks is AMAZING) all that matters is that you enjoy the music. everyone on here saying its terrible that you discovered music from a movie or book.. how else are we supposed to find out about music from years ago?
@JustTheChorus It's a first. We're not mindlessly watching a television screen and hearing these songs off of some soundtrack or commercial. It's quite fascinating and wonderful. :}
Making my way through Charlie's mixed tape. :] I can't wait to add a lot of these songs to my music player, he has great taste in music.
I love him..
so good
Charlie, I love you and your taste in music :)
charlie sent me. thanks perks of being a wallflower - this better be in the film version
Di una bellezza struggente.
Perks of Being a Wallflower. :).
Love always,
Charlie
and in that moment, i swear we were infinite.
love always,
charlie
and in that moment, i swear we were infinite
There is a later version of this ....a last grasp by his recording friends which appears with other pieces on a CD. with it was mixed strings and some orchestration. Nick had to seperately record his guitar...then his voice...by that time he couldnt put both together at once. I've not heard this early fresh version. They say he used to play in clubs and hated it because of the superficial conversations going on around him and thought..... No one was really listening.
I'm making my best friend the mixed tape because we read the book together :)
It'll be in a plain white paper case, and I'm going to colour "One Winter" onto the front!
Love Always
Charlie.
Thank you Charlie!
there's also an orchestrated version of this masterpiece on 'Made to Love Magic' album.... I'll never understand why he wasn't a mega star in his lifetime?
Dear friend,
I think that people say things like "We are infinite" because they like songs that make them feel like they belong to something when they're sad. I hope it can be that for them.
Love Always,
~Charlie
Love Always, Charlie
When you see all these comments about the perks of being a wallflower, dont you kind of think like Charlie? somehwhere in the world, someone is looking up this same song, thinking about the good days like you, doing the exact same thing? i think about it and it gives me the chills.
thank you charlie)))
""The sun was gone and the heat died down
And autumn reached for her golden crown
I looked behind as I heard a sigh
But this was the time of no reply."
Recorded during the "Five Leaves Left" sessions (some time between November and December of 1968), "Time of No Reply" by Nick Drake is track 1 from "Time of No Reply," a 1987 compilation album featuring outtakes and alternative versions of songs by English folk singer Nick Drake. It was also included as the fourth disc of the 1987 version of the Nick Drake box set "Fruit Tree".

I would include myself but I heard him from a commercial. Kind of sucks because I know how it feels when people discover a good song by an artist through the media and then throw it away as if it was yesterdays news and move on
thank you Charlie
Reading the letter from December 21, 1991.
Charlie sent me. =)
You should definitely read the book. It's beautiful. Believe me.
A book called "The perks of being a wallflower" where a boy named charlie makes a mix tape with this song on it :) xx
charlie sent me. thanks perks of being a wallflower
hahah me too, checkin out his list of songs on the track he made:) great book indeed.haha
Perks. thanks.
Thank You Charlie! :)
they're filming Perks of Being a Wallflower in December, Stephen Chbosky you have to do a soundtrack with the One Winter tape
the perks of being a wallflower...need i say more ?! :)
yeeeeeeee!
Thank Your Charlie.
@XOLINDZXO14 He's a character from a book/upcoming movie titled "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", written by Stephen Chbotsky. In the book, he makes a mix tape for a friend as part of a Secret Santa gift (please correct me if I am wrong). This was one of the songs included, among many others. Such an amazing book. You should check it out!
The perks of being a wallflower o en español, Las ventajas de ser un marginado. En ese libro el personaje principal hace un playlist y esta canción está incluida en el :)
Bien que describio el titolo
Does it really matter? Music should be love regardless of time. Just some discoveries take longer. Doesn't mean it holds no value.
reading it know perks of being a wallflower i read this song on it!!./...
