My father died in my arms after committing suicide and I had a nervous breakdown shortly afterwards. As I was coming out of it I found solace in this song. I listened to it day and night. It was the first song I heard after my breakdown that for some reason didn't make me sad although it was one of my father's favorite songs when he was in college. Not getting sad while listening to this song was how I knew I was getting better.

Playing it January 1, 2021 for no apparent reason. Well, it has been playing in my head for couple of days now. What a perfect day to play the song on an overcast New Years day. Happy New Year everyone.
My dads good tast of music brought me here, he passed auay almost 7 years ago. There are several things to keep the memories alive and one of those things is listening to great music like this.
For those complaining about the "video". For christsakes, this was 1967. Long before the idea of videos as artistic statements even existed. This was the era of get a 16mm camera rolling and film a band running thru a park acting silly and then call it a day...lol. There wasn't a whole lot of thought and pre-production that went into these. This clip is nice because you get to see London in a very interesting time during the so-called summer of love.
+Simon Higgins yes too many complainers and haters! This is real music created by brilliant people without all the techno bullshit that is out now! That is what makes it real and beautiful!
+Wolfen443 , Coming from 60s along with being at Woodstock. I can say we got out together and protested. We were together personally and collectively. It was a very spiritual, free and creative place. Drugs were also a part of that scene yet we weren't violent. We lost our heroes who tried to change war, racism and justice. They shot innocent young students at Kent State to stop our rights and that was the beginning of the end. It seems we are being pulled more away from one another. Media, tv with never ending commercials, division, governance and those bankers and corporations who own it all have made it all cheap and artificial. Our country was the world heroes now they hate us. Money, greed, consumerism, jobs overseas have left us so much less in our souls. We had more yet less in materialism. We cold find a job easily and weren't worked to death as slaves. Sundays were family days in the neighborhood. Now stores are open 24 hrs a day! We had that God feeling. Now money rules. So young people get together go buy some land and grow your own.
+Wolfen443 Very sad, the world gets worse as we fall further from the older world to a future of uncertainty. I would give anything to go back to 1967 as a 18 year old! not to mention the girls!
I'm 69 n still jam to this great song, my teen yrs., school dances, 8th grade graduation, innocence of what the world is now,,,,long for those ast yrs.

Never has a truer word be spoken. I was brought up in the 60s & 70s in the UK but have lived in Colorado for 40yrs. The world for me as I saw it gradually changing in about 1980. RIP Keith Reid, thanks for all the beautiful music.
I heard my dad play this on a keyboard once. He sang while he played. God what I would give to hear him one more time!
was also my fathers favorite song, i would give my life to hear him sing this song again.
I first heard this classic song in 1967 when I was twenty now I will be 74 this September. How time flies!!😪😪😪
It takes me back to driving my first car and driving home from my Grocery job on a hot August night 1970’s
Achter de sterke en de stoere man, schuilde een fantastische en gevoelige mens !! Peter uit het oog, maar niet uit het hart 🖤 R.I.P !!
Peter R de Vries RIP our great friend. The Netherlands will never forget you. I hope we can change the world we're living now. You didn't deserved this. Justice will come sooner or later. I'm glad we can use this song to remember you. You made my life different at the age of 21. I hope we shall meet again.
John Lennon said this was the most beautiful song he'd ever heard when it came on the radio one day in 67 ....... I'm with you John. RIP.
_" 'I remembered after I'd gone what record it is that I can't stop playing,' Lennon said. 'It's that dope song, Procol Harum's Whiter Shade Of Pale."_

God's speed Gary, this song is a legacy like no other words can. Rest eternal.
64 yrs young 😊 this song brings back so many memories 😢😊❤❤❤❤❤
That organ, Oh My God. and them drums. My eyes might just as well have been closed. And then the organ goes nuts. It's just so good. It's dreamy, it's magical. I dunno. There's something about it. Its one of the best songs ever made
These lyrics are just pure poetry. And oh, how I love that 60's vibe. It was something else...
oh indeed! It will never ever return......but it's there like a faint melody in our hearts! We were looking for it, wanting to bring it back for a moment. Just for a moment to get a touch of that magic feel.....🥲

I'm 81. Now and when I hear this song I am back in 1967 with Pam 57 years ago
This song takes me back,I envision being back with my old crowd going down town looking for some fun,it’s so powerful my mind is full of those days,my final days are getting near, and I want to spend them in the past.
So say we all.

After John Lennon heard this song he is reported as saying...."I wish I'd written that". Great story.
He used to ride all over London in his psychedelically painted Rolls Royce limousine, getting high and listening to this song on repeat. True story.
So what's the song about?
@@alandrake2692 There's references to English poetry in the lyrics.
@@saxglend9439 Okay, so what does any of it mean ? What can anyone deduce from the lyrics apart from it being utter nonsense from beginning to end ? ˆ◡ˆ

Every once in a while I stop to listen to this great, spirit-filling tune. And every time it manages to fill my spirit with the feelings of great, lost and forgotten music that's ceased to exist.

I remember in 1985 going through the radio stations and hearing this! I hurried up and grabbed a cassette and recorded. I only got half the song but it was a song that just automatically hit me! I played that half a song until I found out who it was! An amazing song for all times 👍🏾
Oh this brought a smile to my face. This sounds like me! I remember those days taping songs from the radio. We used to spend alot of time by the stereo player, listening to the radio and playing records!
1985, This is from 1967...
Haha I can remember having to do that to songs I especially liked, had to be quick to get a full song or tape the full top 40 charts on Sunday evening but then end up with a lot of shit I wasn't bothered about lol.

I have loved this song since I was a kid. I'm sixty two now and I still love it just as much today.
I like these old films because they describe a world already gone, sadly in every possible way.
+Simon Higgins agreed, its a great video that captures the time, unlike most plastic fake studio videos nowadays
+Wolfen443 Very sad, the world gets worse as we fall further from the older world to a future of uncertainty. I would give anything to go back to 1967 as a 18 year old! not to mention the girls!
This song came out in 1967 and it still sounds as fresh as when it came out. A rock classic.
I'm 69 n still jam to this great song, my teen yrs., school dances, 8th grade graduation, innocence of what the world is now,,,,long for those ast yrs.
The anthem of our time in the 60s. The memories, the moments, the people, the places, all encapsulated in this classic.❤
