Fantastic cover of Jackson C Frank... A man who deserves a lot more credit and fame for his work. An absolute genius. Any Nick Drake fan should check out his work.
Nick is one of my favorite artists. I discovered that Jackson C Frank was one of his biggest influences, and in this song is very clear, the melancholic tone, the drag, the pace, mystery... What a forgotten genius Jackson was, every folk lover should check him out.
+Be Love It seems as if it's recorded from a reel to reel tape, with a track bleeding through from the other side, or a previous recording...it sure is far-out!
There is a clear and clean recording of this, but this one with ghostly music bleeding through from the other side of the magnetic tape was the first recording I heard and still captures something timeless to me.
I too have to say that Jackson C. Frank, hit me so much harder when I first heard, not in anyway saying I prefer any version, but it is Jackson's song.
This probably sounds corny, but I'm posting it anyway. When I was little and my parents would come back home from their trips to Ethiopia they'd bring back these Milk and Honey cookies. They were absolutely delicious. So, I'd go out into my (massive) backyard when my dad hadn't mowed the lawn for a while and sit there with my cookies and watch the clouds while eating. That's what the song reminds me of. :)
Ahh, Nick...you left us far too early....your gorgeous voice and face and incredibly beautiful, haunting music just takes me away.....peace to you forever....thank you for being your gorgeous self.....
The first time I heard this song was when I was trying to study for an exam the next day. When I listened to the soft guitar along with that enchanting voice I immediately drop my books and just start to listen. I repeated it for like five times. It is such an interesting and amazing song which moves my soul. I appreciate Nick Drake, but I have been reading from the web that the original song was Jackson Frank's.
Jackson & Nick are two of my All time faves. Without them I don't know where I'd be in this place called Life. Thank you both for sharing w/ us your music.
Omg I never knew Nick covered this. He got me into Jackson C Frank from another cover and I loved him immediately. This song especially. And now I found this cover.
Nick and Molly's songs as well as their takes on other's songs strike me as being so intuitive, free from contrivance. I think this is part of why I love their music so much. It rings forth like something largely unmediated by musical convention, from the heart of people who can't help but sing. They do it because they love it and it's what they do naturally.
This sounds kind of haunting. These melodies give me an eerie otherworldly feel. I don't know if any one else listening feels what I feel. It may be hard to explain, but this song makes life dream-like, or makes life seem unreal. It takes me back to the first memories of when I was a kid. It kind of makes you disillusioned with modern society and want to question life. It has a very deep and existential atmosphere.
"Gold and silver is the autumn Soft and tender are her skies Yes and no are the answers Written in my true love's eyes Autumn's leaving and winter's coming I think that I'll be moving along I've got to leave her and find another I've got to sing my heart's true song Round and round the burning circle All the seasons: one, two, and three Autumn leaves and then there winter Spring is born and wanders free Gold and silver burns my autumns All too soon they'd fade and die And then I'd know, there'd be no others Milk and honey were their lies" - Music and Lyrics by Jackson C Frank -
Love ya Nick, let's be friends. The mystery over your death ... did you mean it? Doesn't matter any more - your music is still with us. Thank you for what you did for us while you were with us.
The original was actually written by Jackson C. Frank, and can be found on the only album he ever released called The Blues run the Game. It's a really powerful version, but this more mellow drake version suits the song nice to....
Remember guys, if you feel bad about anything do not forget that we live in a timeline where Nick Drak covered Jackson C. Frank. May their beautiful souls rest in well deserved peace.

I would like to say that this song was created by Jackson C. Frank. A lot of the stories that are attributed to Nick Drake are really Jackson C frank stories. He was the man that was way too shy to play in front of anybody, so he would ask that people not look at him. Also, I personally do not believe Drake tried to commit suicide, he was trying to take enough anit-depression medication to fell "better".. his intent was not to kill himself
wrong on both counts; Nick was a person who would turn his back on his audience whilst tuning his guitar strings and not speak with them.My personal belief is that he suffered from, among other things,Asperger's syndrome (he had all the hallmarks)....and he did intend to take his own life;his sister Gabriel disputed it for years but finally came around to the view that he did take his own life out of weary frustration of living feeling the way he did (which was no doubt exhausting)...nobody takes that amount of pills "by mistake"
kate davenporty Well, the second part of my response is definitely debatable, but the first part on who originally created this song is definitely not.
I don't know where to do it, so I'll just say it here. I'd like to give a shout-out to the person or persons who edited the "Blue" video. Really well done, fit the song perfectly and was very touching. Very moving.
nick admired jackson c. frank and got many inspirations from his work; they may have had similarities too in their way of seeing the world and their feelings
@beccaleccahimecca I don't think a cover can ever be as good as the original. Jackson C. Frank's is the best, because he wrote it. However, I do love Nick Drake's cover and feel he did justice to this classic song.
this song is probibly one of the greatest not just cuz it sounds good but it brings like so many diffrent emotions when u sing it some times u feel happy other times sad its weird but its a great song its to bad though that nick drake died =(
I very much doubt a Jonas brother fan has heard of nick drake and that's just a stupid comparison.Nick drakes music is hauntingly beautiful its a shame what happened to him he meant so much more to the world then he will ever know.
He left us way to early but what amazing work he left for us to find ! Always moves me and takes me to a better place .There is also a great track just posted by a band called Unorfadox, its called Mr Drake (on You Tube). It just sums him up in a song without trying to emulate his sound at all, just a smart song ! anyone who gets Nick Drake will get this song .
Fantastic cover of Jackson C Frank... A man who deserves a lot more credit and fame for his work. An absolute genius. Any Nick Drake fan should check out his work.
Thankyou very much for this information. You never know until someone tells you.
Apparently frank was so traumatised and mentally exhausted by all of life's trauma someone is quoted as saying 'he belonged in a psychiatrists chair'
Brothers from a different mother!
Fantastic cover of Sandy Denny then. The more impressive version
@@Luis674tDid you know that Jackson C and Sandy Denny were for a while an item?

The main riff and the first few words have circled around my gead despite me having only listened to it a couple times in 2017
I love his galloping rythmic picking, with that haunting bent note, and removed vocal.....other worldly....
❤
Thank you God
For send these mans to our world.

No matter how bad I feel, no matter how dark it gets... I just love Nick's stuff. He brings me great joy.
Jackson C. Frank's original work.
there is no such thing as time and space when I listen to this....the quality of the recording adds an interesting ambiance to this lovely song....
+Be Love It seems as if it's recorded from a reel to reel tape, with a track bleeding through from the other side, or a previous recording...it sure is far-out!
Agreed. The ambiance is kinda haunting.
@@DillonColtMusic his zinc strings are very dead apparently
The bends and hammer on sounds awesome. Is this the tape distorting it or his guitar ? Never heard something like this before

His voice is so soothing that it puts me to sleep. But, like, in a good way.
Olivia Norwood what would be a bad way for that?
Matt Halbmaier as in boring I guess lol
Olivia Norwood will you marry me?

One of the very few artists that could pull off a Jackson C Frank cover and do a fantastic job
Stunning...Great to see Jackson's music remembered.

Stunning singer & musician, such a loss at young age.

A cover of the original Jackson C. Frank
I wish he never died ):
E7X7Mstudios Who you telling . love to have met him .
Hauntingly beautiful.
his version is so deep..love it!!
my favorite version
Even Nick can't match the brilliant Jackson. C.Frank on this one..
Deserves 1 billion likes
apparently this inspired the GoT theme
omg that's what I thought too... and it's probably true

This redeems the world.
I love both versions - the original version from Jackson C. Frank and Drakes Coverversion. They both give their own personality to this song.
Yes, different tempos and accompaniment styles.
Beautiful ...
so good and calming

a bit disappointed it's no longer available on Spotify...

What a treasure. I love Nick and I love this song. I first heard it done by Sandy Denny, whose version is remarkable also.🎶🎶💜☮🌞🌈
Sandy dated the author of this work, Jackson C. Frank, so check that out! He's remarkable.
You are SO loved by the people who have found you and are smart enough to NEED you in their lives Nick. Wish you were here...Rest in Peace.
wow what a song so much passion and depth speachless
Nick here looks like Jim Morrison and Mark Lanegan combined.
True! But he sounds like no other! So unique...
Marie-Anne GUIBEREAUYou no it to :)

Agree and Nick Drake's cover has a different beauty from the original song which is also great.

that's a lovely attachment you have to this song :)
Anyone notice this chord progression is almost the same as the Game Of Thrones Theme Song?
It does sound similar, the galloping 3 note thing totally sounds like it!
Guess you ought to tell the GOT theme song is almost the same ;-)

If you like this song in particular, there is an album where he does a bunch of blues standards called "family tree".
Masterful.

I've heard plenty of interviews with Nick's family saying that he was much too shy to play in front of others.
that's right,he WAS.Also,he definitely DID suicide,you don't take that much medication accidentally.

Niamh agreed
It is. :)
yes i actually prefer nick drakes version.i think his guitar playing is superior and it suits his melencholic vocal style.
In Ethiopia I'd wager. :) But probably anywhere in the Eastern hemisphere.
The guitar is nice very Bert Jansch like !
