In 1955, the Swiss launched their new sniper rifle, the Zf. Kar. 55; a K31 styled straight pull rifle that had next to zero interchangeable parts with the K31. Since there were only around 4,150 rifles produced, these are quite rare worldwide, but regardless, we dissect the intricacies of the Swiss sniper rifle and sniper doctrine.
We'd like to thank the following for making this possible:
Jeff, the owner of this great example of the Zf. Kar. 55.
Ian from Forgotten Weapons for setting this up.
Mike and Dale from Bloke on the Range for working with us on the technical research and interviews.
Edelweiss Arms for sending the original Swiss GP11 ammunition.

The Zf. Kar. 55 muzzle brake is indeed a direct copy of the German FG42 (type 2) muzzle brake. Also... my goodness even in the black and white images, did I miss Switzerland's stunning mountains and lakes! I hope to return.
Ive been having my fingers crossed for a FG42 review. Now that I'm seeing one in the video im getting excited for what's to come 😁.
can you make a vidéo on the STG57...? thx
That rifle really smacks the targets.
That brake looks very effective!
Are you planning on doing any more pistol accuracy tests? I love this channel. You and Paul Harrel are my favorite channels.
Bloke being a patent lawyer adds a whole new dimension to this lol
7:40 Did you see that ricochet? HOLY COW!
Dam gore good eyes
Yes I did
That's scary...
Yeah! That was AWESOME!
speaking of cow, freaking henry aiming at animals again smh smh
The skits at the beginnings are always fantastic.
Josh flexing on us with those shorts
My thoughts exactly every time he sits at that table lol
I see he wears his shorts left
@@762x54rgun At this point, he'd better keep wearing them or he'll show weakness.
Josh stays strapped and stays *Strapped*
Most importantly, and I think I speak for all of us here, where did you get the lederhosen?
What a question, does that mean you don't have a shop that sells cheap ones (around 60-100€) in your nearest shopping center? What sad part of the world are you living in...😉
Family heirloom.
What shooting range are you guys using for your testing ????
You should never ask a question you might not want to hear the answer to
Hello from GERMANY, don‘t buy a Lederhose at Munich Oktobrfest, to expensive. Better look at ebay
7:41 that bounce though.
I would love to see an episode with the Swiss sig 550. This bad boy is freaking accurate. With love from Switzerland 🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭
Misha said in his last 550 sniper video that they were sending one for review
Just watched their review of it, which is now online. First 20/20 gun of the course!
We just have the best Sturmgwehr Nünzg 😁
Love the additional history lesson from BOTR. Just loving how you mix shooting, history and conclusion and discussion in one video. Great package. Oh, and skits and memes. Amazing package of a video. 100% value.
P.S.
That sliding grass ricochet. Wild! 7:40
I'm so glad that you have been working with Ian from Forgotten Weapons. I wouldn't have known about or subscribed to your channel if he didn't mention you all.
Great collab everybody! The history and usage bit made a great compliment to the shooting and technical discussion. Cheers!
You're coming on in the future ;)
Edit: your mustache is coming on the show in the future... we hope.
I appreciate incorporating the Swiss tradition of smalltalk before any important conversation.
Damn Josh, nobody needs to see that.
lmao
Why did I read this comment??? Now I can’t unsee it :(
Can we get a black bar for the next video?
I would recommend you stop shopping at baby GAP. For science are we starring at the frank or the beans? Asking for a friend.
MY EYES.....
The extra accuracy over the K31 was needed to make the holes in the cheese.
So are we going to see FG42 in practical accuracy soon ?
I have pray every day for this to happen.
That’s gonna be painful
If you can find one.
The SMG reproduction is actually pretty sweet, according to InRange.
I have been asking myself that for months.
getting low on my GP11 and pulled some down to try to build a similar load. That stuff is loaded HOT HOT HOT and the bullet is sleeker than any of the fancy new ELD or secant ogive projos I have in my stash. I was seriously impressed with what the Swiss were cooking up a century ago.
I recall the US Army actually copied the GP11 projectile for the .30-06’ M1 ball.
The only problem was that the M1 Ball was too long-ranged (which ironically was what they were trying to solve) for safe use at ranges, so they developed M2 Ball, which had many of the other improvements of the M1 Ball but used the older projectile design.
Why they didn’t extend the range? Because by the time they found out, it was the Great Depression, and funds for everyone was pretty tight.
9-holes is now by far the best gun review channel.
5:42 - If a gun can make the target spun vertically...Is not a gun is a fricking cannon
Plot twist; a cannon is also a gun.
@@skepticalbadger I bet you're gun at parties
Bloke with an exploding carrot of doom in the background! I've hardly watched this, but fantastic job!
My favorite series! Thanks guys!
I always like the collaborations. It's cool getting to see someone shoot the rare rifles that Ian shows.
I love these Swiss rifles! I have been wanting to add one to my collection for a long time watching your videos on the Swiss rifles makes me want to open up the net and find the right one to buy!!!
The collaborations with creators like BOTR, Kit Badger, etc. are very excellent and informative! Hope y'all keep it up! 🤘
These intros are too damn amazing!
This is the best channel on the tubes, change my mind.
CHANNEL IS BECOMING EVEN BETTER!
Good job, guys
lmao those intros - i love this channel and share it whenever I get the opportunity - this rifle hits hard
Oh wow, love this Swiss dish of a rifle. I have fired one similar and it was a nice thing to hold. Put myself first in line if old mate owner ever sells it. Great video guys
Love your videos, love your rail covers. Back when I was on a destroyer there was newer E6 in our berthing (forward berthing 1, something like 60+ dudes) we took on and he would walk around with only a towel over his shoulder and his shower shoes on when it was shower time. He used to think WE were weird for yelling at him every damn time he'd do it. Luckily he got promoted on the next test phase and was then put up with the chiefs in their berthing. We would take particular glee in watching his daily interactions with the chiefs in his berthing - they had taken to rolling their eyes and referring to him as instead of Chief ; something chiefs really only did amongst themselves.
Don't be that guy Josh...
wheres the reticle/hold overlay, my boys? my new fav feature
I needed this in my life. Thanks.
Great review, hard to get real concrete info like that even in Switzerland, especially since you hav the same range and other weapons as a control.
Another classic. Keep it up fellas!
Another great video! I want your job! You guys get to shoot a bunch of really cool firearms! Like the history lessons in your video's.
Great job! Keep them coming!
I’d love to see a practical accuracy with a 1903 A3.
of you don’t have one, I’d be happy to provide my 1943 smith corona 03A3 in MINT condition.
YES
Oh, I shot mine out to 700m a few days ago and it’s amazingly great
Oh dear god yes, it's only natural after 9holereviews did the kar98k
The ZFK55 is IMO the neatest rifle of the series. I marvel at how the Swiss engineers solved the direct over the bore mounting an optic and still facilitating stripper clip usage. They just canted the receiver a very expensive proposition. Put a Swiss Products replacement mount which in itself is a great product, and mount a modern optics and then you will see the true accuracy potential of these unique rifles.
Damn, I was just looking at a couple of these the other day, because I love my K31 so much. Just a few days ago, I was nailing the 450 yard target at my range with it.
Damn, this video is going to make me buy more guns, I just know it. Last time was an M39, this time I'm going to finish the video at the gun shop looking for Swiss rifles.
Wow those rounds are MOVING those plates!
You guys are so funny, awesome stuff!
You were in Germany and I was not informed beforehand?
I'll have to talk to the some responsible people...
That was actually incredibly entertaining. Great stuff and much love from Deutschland.
That was an odd piece of theatre at the beggining.
Great as usual... only thing what I missing is seeing you guys doing more shooting with iron sights
holy cow, The Bloke speaks flawless Bärndütsch.
I was not expecting that...
Someone’s tryna tease that 03 Springfield...
I see you
Did he call swiss guns ugly!? Well... maybe a little... but every woodstock gun is beautiful in its own way. Also always great to see bloke
5:20 "he's beginning to believe"
Love your videos!
Ayyyy I asked for this a while ago! Nice!
Wonderful bipod...
And that post in the scope.
I love the new filming style and im guessing you guys upgraded the spotters camera, i can see stuff clear as hell.
Love watching you guys shoot keep it up :)
What a stout round. Great video.
We saw Henry's Disappointed Asian dad look today.
Too good, just too good. Love the BoTR opening.
Can't wait to see that PSL in action.
Vee made a whole canted rifle just zo you could use a charger and you ahr single-loading it! 🤬😂
To be fair ze clips are getting pretty hard to find nowadays
@@charelpeffer52 no kidding :’( I wish I had at least one!
There are reproductions on amazon that work.
Honest review - so much for swiss technology -- now we know the practicality behind soviet doctrine.
One of the rarest rifle and most accurtate sniper rifles at this time, proud to be swiss❤
The worn out turret reminds me of how the Schmidt-Rubin K1911 front sight is set in a diagonal channel, and you drift it for windage, and then you're supposed to chisel a line between the bottom of the sight and the base to show if it's moved.
@SwissArmy1984 That makes sense. Thanks.
Love the intro
Germans: YOUZ CANTZ SHTEEL OUR MUZZEL DEVICE!!!
Swiss: *Laughs in Fondue*
I wanna go to Switzerland...
Switzerland is awesome. They can borrow our muzzle device for sure, it's a kind of compliment, but usual they produce material on par or even better than german production which is very good in this area, so "Swiss Made" is top notch!
@@paul8158 Oh 100%! Especially their firearms! Like the K31s and Schmidt Reuben's are great! And the SG550s are great semi auto rifles too.
you could say the Swiss were quite fondue of this German muzzle device.
@@Ponen77 😆
That "halleluiah" just earned you an automatic thumbs-up. :-)
Only thing missing was a muttered: "Blessed be his name" under your breath. LOL
Henry, you do the run and gun once in a while, why doesn’t Josh shot out to 500 yards? Maybe a shoot out between you guys to 500 yards? Since you ( Henry) show your time on run and gun let’s see Josh show his round count on yards, Just for fun, please, please, please! Lol!
I believe he did for the mini 14.
Thanks, sinister thoughts.
Both are experts in different shooting. I come to see Josh shoot close range and Henry long range.
For loose turrets, try pulling a Ranger band over the turrets (take a bike tube and cut various sizes into bands...I cut them from 1/4" to about 1/2" for various uses).
I'd love to see you do a 1861 Springfield. Just to see how far out you can hit at.
Please do a review of the Lithgow la105 in 308 an Australian long range rifle I think you'll love! Cheers from Australia 👍
can confirm as I scored a first round hit at 338m on a whitetail with a scout mounted k31.
What a hard hitting round🎉
Great Video 👍💯
Amazing This rifle 👍🇨🇭
Sounds like the M16A2 I had in basic. By the time I would get done shooting a qualification course, the elevation would be up in the 500-600 range. Makes it hard to hit targets.
Ya Strudel for you with your Beerstein. Great video ya!
Awesome ricochet at 17th shot.
I think the little scope one is cool also.
Keep it up!
I'd love to see a practical accuracy episode with the Barrett m82, or 107
Will there be a up coming vid on the Springfield??? Keep up the great work 🤜
Top job
Nice straight pull.
Cant wait until that M76 episode!
Henry please tell Josh to get a set of Duluth Bull Pen boxers, keep the boys in the corral
that shot at 450 y that made a line was sick
You should totally do a 9 hole review long range with a shiloh sharps!!! Old school scope or quigley sight.!
I wanna see a 650 gr 50-110 or 50-120 touch those plates. Bonk.
I see that M76, guys. I've been keeping my eye on it for a while now.
Hey, I think an awesome test would be the m16a1 with the Brownell's retro 4x scope. Show the capabilities of the ACOG's forerunner
I want one of those
I am fortunate to own both the ZFK-55 and an FK Hammerli Diopter sight rifle. Both Swiss unicorns in their own right. The FK is only 1 of 100 made.
That ricochet was crazy! also I wonder how would that rifle and or other old rifle do with modern optics?
Pretty good, I think. The guns are usually limited by their optics.
You should do one with the Greek Mannlicher-Schonauer in 6.5x54ms. It would be interesting to see how that caliber would preform at 500yds.
Really cool rifle. Kinda wish more manufacturers did straight pulls. Henry, do you guys plan to redo the PU sniper?
Id love to see this done with a trapdoor Springfield
The intro is soooo funny. I laughed really hard. I'm german and he got the accent totally right.
Freaking EPIC intro
I'll be honest, if you look at the simultaneous shots at 5:22, the target has a hesitation in its spin. I think you knicked it.
Should do an svt 40 review!
Have you read about the US Army's new IWQ? If so what are your thoughts about it? I just did it for the first time last week. It is much more applicable to actual combat (even though I've never deployed). The 5 shot zero is much more effective as well. We had more soldiers qualify on their 1st attempt than the previous IWQ.
I always get a half chub when I get a notification.
IT MAY BE 9 HOLES YA NEVER KNOW
That ricochet at 7:40 :o
Oh please, Henry you're the spitting image of a Helvetic tribesman.
Wow. Josh is working with a cannon.
Bloke on the Range doing the intro gets this video a like.
