The SG 550-1 Sniper was developed in the 80's for law enforcement snipers to use at relatively shorter ranges. While notably adopted by the Swiss Authorities, it was unable to compete with other LE sniper rifles in its class.
The SG 550-1 was designed for the GP90 5.6x45mm cartridge with higher velocities at relatively shorter ranges (sub 500m).
As time progressed, the concept of a law enforcement - specific sniper rifle gave way as the military DMR developed with new 5.56mm NATO cartridges, and subsequently matured through conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Modern police snipers use systems that are closer to the DMR-type rifles, or bolt action precision rifles, but the role of the LE sniper remains a very unique skillset that is different than the military sniper.
On an off note, the SG 550-1 was represented as the "Krieg 550 Commando" in the classic FPS game, Counterstrike. How does it compare as the "auto-sniper" in Counterstrike? We find out.

Everyone, this is a re-upload. Please be careful in the comments section. While we disagree with the ruling on the previous publication, we publish on their platform, so they have all the rights to do whatever. We had backup plans that we had put together last year, but didn't expect to need to push them ahead so soon. Will update with the backups soon, but take care for the meantime.
Next video Springfield .30 06 M1903 Scoped Sniper Rifle 1100 yards
i was gonna ask i enjoyed this video before and watched it but the youtube deversity hires that be decided this was the naughty video lol i will watch it again anyway i liked it.
what was this 'ruling"?? I'd like to know more-- you should do a video on it.
@@calholli npc said weapons, orange man and normal genders are bad, npc allways right, everything else must be deleted. Npc over and out.
What is the intro music?
Clearly UA-cam wasn’t happy with the human error on the first two shots at 500. Must do better next time
Abide by our Algorithm Overlords.
25" inch barrel you need 77gr
@@khepeshdmj335 1:10 twist isn't going to stabilize the 77gr, despite the 25" barrel. He literally goes over this in the video.
Please note that these are normally shot using 5.6mm/GP90 ammo and not .223. These rounds were specifically designed for the sig550's series and offer greater stability in air resulting in higher precision.
I have shot and compared standard 5.56 and 5.6 ammo at a 300m range in Switzerland. The difference between those rounds in this rifle is pretty big.
@@steven-k. Well, next time you go to the 300n range try to do groupings with both GECO 5.56 and GP90. Normally, you will notice that your groupings are much more consistent and tighter with GP90
Don't forget the consistent Price of 0.7chf a round for this quality of ammo. I don't know If you can find good 5.56 match ammo for that Price these days 😅
@@terminal1397 Wow, I personally pay 0.4CHF by round in Wallis
@@makarovj6871 seriously the real gp90 ? 0.4 it's sound more like .223 commercial, i feel pretty screwed up now 😂😂😂
@@terminal1397 Yes ahahaah, you can get a box of 50 rounds for 20CHF around Wallis and Vaud :)
Put something on your website that lets us register for a newsletter. That way if things go south, we can stay in the loop.
UA-cam just can't stand Henry flexig his PS90 SBR
I could not think of a single reason why this was put down on the first place, yours channel has been costantly putting out similiar content whit no harm done to enyone. Glad things got sortet out. 👍
Probably the" dead body" at the beginning.
Yeah I was think the human arm on the p90 and the saying the bomb has been planted
I seriously hope UA-cam gets dethroned similar to how MySpace did, the more years go by the worse it gets...
Damn Gun Jesus with the knife kill to avenge his fallen brethren.
Lucas would be the scrub to rush B with a P90 lol.
And use an aimbot
Some easter eggs on that intro on the kill feed.
Ian with the FAMAS, typical
Rob Ski over at AKOU also
Subtly calling Botkin out on editing his videos, too.
I never noticed that before. Cool
@@MrSplic3r The knife kill was surprising tho.
Thank you guys for making these fun videos. Mixing informative study, good editing, and entertaining commentary makes for a real treat.
Awesome work gents, please keep doing what you're doing. The history, discussions and datapoints you bring up are truly second to none. Cheers!
Happy to see this video is back up
I'm glad that you reupload the video!
Glad to see you got yours back guys. Take care and God bless.
Glad you reuploaded, I missed it on the first go. I like the style aesthetics of SIG, own a 55x model for the U.S market, love it.
We love you Henry. Keep fighting the good fight!
Watching all the way through again and hitting that like button so it’s clear you have our support.
4:29 I love that audio.... "Fuck!" you can just barely hear it, and that somehow makes it funnier. 😂
.
Again, thank you for demonstrating the trigger adjustments. Most people forget about it and just live with the trigger the was it was set by the last user; if ever set properly
I specifically didn't watch this cause I wanted to watch it later, but then it got removed
It's later.
Same here, now its later, but what was the problem exactly?
Same, just got to watch it later later
Oh yeah, and here we are! I've been waiting patiently.
Always Love your videos! Was just watching The Bourne Identity and started looking for this rifle. I have a Sig 556 and absolutely Love it!!!
Nice to see this video back on air.
I absolutely love the Sig 55x pattern rifles. I just wish I could afford them.
Very interesting, thanks, guys. And to be honest, yes I would buy it as a collector's item. I like the way this gun looks like.
The Sig 550 series of rifles are so amazing
Thanks chaps. Always good to see your videos. UA-cam need a reality check.
Good to see its back
Been watching for 3yrs great job 👍👍👍👍👍
Woooo! Welcome back!
Subscribed, despite the ongoing trends. Love your objective & funny review.
We love you Henry
Glad to see it made it back
Love the content, and I love my slate black industries stop and panels! Thanks gents!
I really enjoyed the talk at the end discussing the twist rate and employment methodology. Both topics I had in my head the entire video. I agree with your assessment. The MK12 is a better modern day tool.
We love you Henry!
Nice, I see a type 99 up there.. can’t wait to see that practical accuracy test. It’ll be interesting to see how it stacks up against the 1903.
Quite frankly, great review sir.
Holy moly that optic is a big boy!
Another rifle with a somewhat adjustable or tunable trigger that most people don't realize is the Steyr AUG. More specifically the trigger bar and it's engagement with the trigger can be tuned but nobody knows it. TnSteyr has a video about it.
Already watched the first upload, watching again just because I can
Good, it's up again!
I would love to see one of these for the Ruger 10/22. It's just a dinky little plinker, but almost everyone has one and I'm sure people would like to see what their gun could do in your hands!
Some great accuracy 👌..Pretty impressive
Sweet looking rifle!
Heck yeah. Would love to buy one. Thx.
ITS BACK BABY
Nice rifle. I think that it is optimised for GP 90 ammo (Swiss military), which is 62 grains, so the 55 grains is probably too light.
Aayy, I recognize that rifle. Pro-tip: it shoots better if you're wearing a shemagh. 😁
Great video Henry, I've been looking forward to this one!
dude jay! thanks to you and Mish again. Interesting you guys did the Vz today, been working with mine a bit, since we bought oodles of soviet cal.. and Vz58 is lyfe.
I’m liking this video again because there was nothing wrong with the original version.
Ian with the FAMAS.
At the age about 19-20 i read a local magazine that made article about this rifle and quickly put Sig 550-1 sniper as ultimate rifle in my mind without knowing the real performance of this rifle. But after see the vids, i realized that at that time, rifle that has high price quickly regarded as high end accuracy rifle without real tested. Thats the irony of old magazine years ago.
But still if i have opportunity to own that rifle, i will buy with heartbeat
Finaly. Love it!
This gun looks so cool
... after seeing a few of these practical accuracy videos, i would love to do this course with my ruger ranch rifle.
Would love to see an Sig MCX review
They are accurate.
glad you got it back up.
_that's what she said_
Speaking of classic police snipers there's two I really want to see, one is an extremely rare one but my personal favorite bullpup sniper design of all time. The Walther WA2000 in .300 Winchester Magnum.
Another police sniper but this time also used by the Australian army and my personal favorite bolt action sniper rifle, the Blaser Jagdwaffen R93 Tactical 2 in .338 Lapua Magnum.
Great video! I don’t think I would ever buy one but pretty cool. A Recce rifle does it for me just fine.
Interesting - I just bought a PE90 (here in Switzerland) and I'm experiencing some teething problems. I used to shoot K31 and Standard Rifle in 7.5 and found them a lot more 'forgiving'. Perhaps it's the wider front sight on the 90. Man, would I like to try a scope like that.
Great video
It's back
can't wait for you to get your hands on a PSG1.
Gun_Jesus with a FAMAS that's a really nice touch
Thank you
Keep up the good work. :-)
I owned a Sig-550-2 for about a year (2002-2003 or so) and for me at the time, it was a Grail rifle. I liquidated a lot of guns to buy it (going rate at the time was north of $8k) and bought about a dozen extra mags, a scope mount, and thought it was the bees knees. Until I shot it. At that point, the rose colored glasses shattered. It was extremely nose heavy, heavier (subjectively) out front than a heavy barreled A2 and the balance just didn't work for me. The bipod seemed a bit overly tall and made it uncomfortable to shoot prone and don't even think about shooting it off a bench using the bipod. But what really did it to me was when the whole "Swiss Accuracy" myth was shattered. The best groups we could get, on average, were ~2MOA, some smaller, some larger, but a free float AR from a decent manufacturer was printing much better.
There was a certain amount of cachet that it brought to the table when you took it out of the case. You knew that no one else would have one, and short of the FAMAS (or the rumored 1 to 3 SA-80s that were supposed to have been imported but no one ever saw), it was perhaps the most unique combat rifle of the era. That said, someone offered me considerably more than I had in the entire package about a year after I bought it and out the door it went.
The 552 was iirc a bit of a failed experiment. I haven't heard of a 550-2, but if you mean the 552, most of it's problems were solved in the 553 iteration.
@@shanesaesseli3279 I think I know what the rifle I paid $8k to buy was called. The original SIG-550-1 was a 1:12 twist barrel while the 550-2 came a little later and had the 1:7 twist barrel.
@@kfeltenberger maybe you used the wrong ammo? The correct ammo is swiss GP90 ammo. But 8k is too much for that gun anyway. At that point you are just paying for it's rarity. In Switzerland you can get one for 1.500 on the market. But many you can get for free as people are giving up their military rifle.
@@xy-yt3xp It was the "right ammo"; GP90 and a couple others. Yes, in 2002 it was a rare and very desirable rifle and the price reflected it. It doesn't matter what the price is/was in Switzerland because they were illegal to import when I bought mine.
being swiss myself, having served using the 550 and 553 and owning both in private, I can happily say both will never be as accurate as a well made AR.
It's facts and I also tested it myself with all three mounted in a sled.
Using GP90 doesn't matter either, it's just good 62gr 5.56 fmj. nothing more, nothing less.
The SIG rifles are very accurate but nothing mythical. my 550 shoots 1-2 MOA, the 553 0.75 - 1.5 MOA with various loads. Most accurate was swiss made OTM ammo and not GP90.
the 55X series have an edge on ARs when it comes the magazine mechanism in cold weather, when running surpressed aswell as running forever without cleaning or needing any replacement parts like the AR15 does with gas rings etc.
Both are great and my AR15 ran 3k rounds without cleaning, just some oiling. could have gone further but I decided to clean it.
Most of my 5.56x45 is a 1x9 twist and I shoot with a 79 Gr. Projectile sometimes a projectile at 62 Gr.(I think, at least in the 60s).
The platform is a heavy barrel AR rifle manufactured by Colt and Bushmaster. My actual Sniper Rifles are Remington Bolt guns purpose built from Remington both with very heavy barrels and further refined by a gunsmith and setup for LEO in 7.62x54 using hand loads developed for each individual rifle. Barrel lengths were 24” and 28”. The 24” is considered for Urban environments and concerned with ingress and egress.
Each having sub-MOA at 100 yds. For LEO as you know these platforms are sighted in at 100 yds.(yeah, I’m an IT guy but I am also LEO trained by one of the larger LEO agencies in the US, enough said on that).
Topped with a Leupold Mark 4 scope on all my sniper rifles
Researching on acquiring a 3rd use sniper platform. I have some semi collectible old school platforms I use as range toys, nothing I would bet my life on or compete with, just for having fun.
Would I purchase something like this, Well... for collecting YES, bet my life on NOT.
I’ve use my Remingtons out to about 850 yards with good results. Not on square range. We were training and were in all type of situation from wooded to urban. Again, my results were good as I’m not a professional like yourself but I train to keep my skill up and I have the opportunity to train with LEOs(I am fortunate to be able to do this)
Again, I really enjoy you channel and always learn something, Thank You !!
FYI - Really Enjoy your channel

Love this gun SG550 and AR family SG552 since I play CS1.6 in my child's time.
The new gun Sig 750 Creedmoor! Awsome
dewtail of gun jesus using the FAMAS in the CS intro
Stuff happens all the time with camera equipment good review anyway & keep up the good work 👍🏻
yes, i would buy...accurate enough and the cool factor!!
Gun Jesus with Famas...damn just how accurate is that..
Woah what's with the reupload? Now I know the reason why it wasn't here when iI was going to watch
Susan did Susan things and took down the video for seemingly no good reason.
Now it's back online.
Too cool for new school
I just want to note that Henry got a cleaner run to 500 with the SG550 with iron sights, lol. Granted, the wind is nuts.
Nice scope!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Ref barrel twist, I've a Remington 78 bolt 223 with a 1/12 twist (scoped) that is capable of less than 1/2" three shot groups at 100yds using Hornady 60gr TAP ammo. This ammo is flat base, and the barrel is decently long at 20". I'd always thought 1/12 would only stabilize 55gr and below.
If I had the money then yes mostly as a collector and fan of classic sig products.
I just love our little talks, Henry-- 🖒😎
Btw, re: buying this rifle-- in a practical sense, I tend toward not buying uber expensive rifles whose job can be done better by lesser expensive, yet still good quality rifles.
Not trying to be mean, I just don't like spending money on firearms just to collect them, fwiw
I prefer all of my weapons to not only please me aesthetically, but be extremely practical, as well.
Perhaps that will change in the future, I don't know...
I would buy one of those if I had the money boi that thing is beautiful
Welcome back, my comment is here to serve
We love you
"Boom! .... Everyone goes home except for the terrorists." These are the callbacks of greatness.
the amount of bearing surface on the projectile also effects spin stabilization
Have you guys ever done the PSG 1? I know they are hard to come by but would love to see you guys run one if you can.
Alex C (TFB TV) was supposed to provide them a rifle to test but it never materialized.
This is a very nice rifle to have a friend own. I don't have a role for this rifle that is not much better and more economically filled with a HB ar or a Remington 700 . A 1 in 7 to 1 in 9 twist medium to heavy barreled AR with a Wylde chamber is hard to beat for heavier bullets at these ranges. I do consider the Remington slightly more precise even with the slower follow up and overall rate of fire.
Being currently in law enforcement I know many swat snipers that use 16” barrel ar platforms in both 556 and 308. Also I don’t see any department in the us spending sig 550 money when like you said a mk12 platform outperforms the 550 at a much lower price point
Use 5.6 gp90 an u’ll see a significant improvement in performance
Love to see a swedish mauser in action.
Greetings from Ticino Switzerland! ;-)
nice
THANK YOU for using CS 1.6 sounds =)
Guys you should try to get and test a stg43/44,a fg42 and the swiss stg 57.
I'd love to see how the they do at both CQB(for split times)and range,in fact I'm very curious how the weaker 7.92x33 fairs against the 7.62x39 in those two areas.
I was wondering what happened to the video, lol.
Reposting my question from last time, why does observer now say impact after the second hit, instead of neutralized like before?
Reuploaded 🔥🔥🔥
Impressive
I've been searching for that intro beat for a week and i still cant find it.... anyone knows the name of the track?
Curious if you can do a practical accuracy of a carcano rifle (any version)
well thank you, now I want one... :D
Any chance you guys will ever do the ak12/ak19 with a sight ?
I would buy it. Only if it was able to snap shot at 100m with in a 3" of center. I would prefer a 7mm aka 30 cal variant. 1.8 twist to 2 with a long heavy 20" barrel to help harmonising projectile to flight path. If the barrel walls are too thin the projectile rattles and deharmnises with its intended path. No matter how tight the fit in battery. I like Henry's lever. They have heavy barrels, consistent groups through all kinds of ammo. Anyways fen-shway great content.
