    Do not plan your day in the morning, you will overestimate your power level to be over 9000. It's better to do it in the evening when you are tired, because you have more realistic view of your own strength.

      More like plan stuff when you’re “tired”, whether it be in the morning or at night I feel sometimes when I’m tired in the morning I really don’t want to do as many things (depending if I wake up feeling good or not). So yeah I kind of get you, feeling tired can give you a real estimate of how your day went or is going to be.

    I just want to add the Pomodoro Technique. When working on any given task, turn off everything for 25 minutes and have laser focus on that particular thing that you are working, after those 25 minutes have a 5 minute break. When I first started to implement Pomodoro I was able to finish work in 1 hour that most of the time took 3-4 hours ( because I was checking facebook and youtube all the time )
    Anyway I totally resonated with Schedule your day, helped me immensely.
    Keep up the good videos I really like them a lot!

      There is just something that confuses me, you say we should try to enter flow state and the next thing you talk about is taking breaks, couldn't those breaks break that flow state?

    • @heyall10
      @heyall10 7 років тому

      Ya I had a group assignment where we collected ideas and i had lots of ideas and i had pretty good flow overall and also visions about what i need to do and say. Then we took a break and after the break i couldn´t get into that mindset anymore. Group asked me why am i so quiet and stuff but i couldnt think about the assignment and lost my flow completely. Any Tips about that ?

    • @PracticalPsychologyTips
      @PracticalPsychologyTips  7 років тому +21

      If you enter flow state, you'll completely forget about taking breaks and have a seemingly endless amount of energy, but if you're not in the flow state, you'll need to take breaks to recharge. Depending on how you feel, don't feel guilty to take breaks to recharge. Hope this helps :)

      oh yeah.. I kinda get u... but here's something might help u with that. In the very momment you're planning your day, or even ur week (I usually do that on Sunday evenings), being realistic and separate a certain amount of time for the urgences is helpful ... I always plan something around 60% of my time and let the rest for these stuffs that happens on daily basis that screws up our planning. so by doing that .. there's a great chance you'll acomplish your planning ... and when u get more used to that... u may even start planning more of ur time, like 65%, 70% and so on

    Hey! Something that really helps me focus while writing or doing work on the computer is listening to binaural beats. They're really cool because different frequencies can change your mood and activate different parts of the brain. Some people even use them for lucid dreaming. You should check it out. I would love to see a video on this from your perspective.

    I love the 3 main goals idea: that's how I make my daily to-do lists. When you only choose few importang things to focus on achieving, you are motivated & don't feel overwhelmed!
    It's even better if the goals are small if you are just starting with productivity!
    It's better to start small & end big, it's all about consistency!

    I really think that schedule everything is really important but there ir a hint in it, don´t stress out if you aren't on time. Im doing my mayor on industrial engineering and some times when Im doing a homework I take more time that what I would like to. In the past I would be all stressed and would not do the homework right just to be on time; now I just right what I need to do in the day and let me go with the flow. This works so good and I all ways finish my tasks.
    PD. I love your videos!!! I'm from Mexico and I think this is a great channel.

    Great suggestions! I would recommend though that people be careful about scheduling your days out as suggested by Dana. One of my weaknesses is making lists. I find that I can make lists and plan with the best of them but my follow-through is terrible. So in the end making highly detailed task lists is a waste of time but if I write with broad strokes, maybe just list the major or pressing items I need to do, I am more likely to get them done.

  • @donstv244
    @donstv244 7 років тому

    Dana's bonus tip is the most meaningful for me. I can relate to him because I am doing it too. I wonder what his note looks like and how does he organize the ideas he jot down. Thank you Practical Psychology for this video. I learned a lot.

    • @donstv244
      @donstv244 7 років тому

      Yes... I believe that this is a very useful topic. I think a lot of people don't realize that may great ideas came to their mind but they don't make action because at the end of the day they forget all about it. By taking down notes for yourself make a big contribution for an individual to be more productive, it should be done in a daily basis and must be added to their daily routine.

    As far as I know if your are planning to put specific periods of hours to do something like learning or studying 4 hours dont do that.Instead take it minutes wise.There are 1440 minutes in a day , If you are a school or a university person and have a goal to chase on side use this technique.For me i spend 800 minutes coding and for that i work hard 20 minutes than take a break for 5-10 minutes in a break i either do handstand pushups or watch a motivation video and repeat this cycle.Have been doing this since 1 year and I have efficiently learned java language and android and now working on my own application on time management.
    And I also sleep 3hours at night from 12pm to 3 am and 1.5hours in the afternoon after i come back from university.I am energetic throught the day inspite of having low amount of sleep and its because of REM cycles(google it). So always count your minutes,Every minute counts. Good Luck to all who are after their goals and dreams !! Have Fun grinding

    Here's a list of ways I try to stay productive from someone who has OCD over not being productive enough -
    I do this thing a lot where I be productive for twenty minutes, free time for twenty minutes, work for forty minutes, free time for forty minutes, work for an hour etc. And I get only free time from 8:30 pm to 8:30 am.
    I've also tried only working every odd hour of the day (1,3,5,etc) this works EXTREMELY well however you burn out quickly and prob will only be able to do like one or two days with this method. It's great for projects that you have to do a lot of work on in a short amount of time though.
    I used to have unbreakable self discipline, I only ate at certain times, I never had distractions etc. I did this by making myself only sleep for ten minutes at a time. This is like too far tho I mean I had like superhuman productivity but it was unhealthy and fed my OCD and it's not really possible for too long of a time period.
    I did this thing where I wanted to figure out how many hours a day I wanted to do a thing (so like two hours a day reading) then I would figure a month is thirty days and then write out "60 hours to go" in my phone and after each hour of reading I'd update it till I got to 0 hours left or the end of the month.
    Look into bullet journals, they help with productivity.
    Look into Nanowrimo, I found that writing consistently everyday made me soooo much more productive as a whole.
    Switch your productivity methods up once they stop working.
    Always give yourself planned time for free time. Then instead of ignoring what you are supposed to be doing by going online and wasting a bunch of time you can just tell yourself to hold on till you get a break, and then you can do whatever then.
    Also leave your house once a day, this gives yourself a break from being inside working on stuff and you won't go crazy.
    Also utilize the library and coffee shops and any area away from home that makes you feel like getting stuff done.
    And always have long term goals that you are consistently working toward. I set all my goals for the year on January 1st.

    Hi, your videos simply put, has help me so much, you are helping so many people with the knowledge acquired from books. Books are great but many times, I realise that I am not interested in a book after 3h of reading, you help me to know what to read for sure, also to get the main points.
    I wanted to ask you about THE PSYCHOLOGICAL STATE OF FLOW, for me is really hard to get there, but once I am, I am incredibly amazing and I have accomplished great things thanks to that. I would like to know if there is a good method to go to that stage easily, if there is a method for example.
    Thank you again !
