3: Strech Goal - Aim for a higher goal
4: Develop wide knowledge base - Develop specific knowledge but also try to learn more broad things to help you

    Bonus lessons!
This video was already long enough with 5 lessons, but I originally identified 9 when I was researching the topic. Here's a brief look at the other four:
    1. When you hit a roadblock, don't accept the standard solution.
Within the aerospace industry, SpaceX has historically been seen as a bunch of "cowboys" for the seemingly haphazard way they approach everything from testing to launches. But this cowboy mentality can work to their advantage. SpaceX engineers are well known for loading new code onto their rockets during launch prep when bugs are found. Other companies would often delay launches by weeks when similar problems cropped up.
    2. Make sure you have skin in the game.
Part of Elon’s work ethic stems from the fact that he’s personally invested in his projects. While other companies are content to take investor money, Musk’s companies - while also investor and government-backed - got off the ground because Musk himself put his own fortune on the line in order to make them possible. By being personally invested in his companies, Musk knew that their failure would also mean his own financial failure - while he certainly wouldn’t be out on the street, it would at least represent a huge, huge loss. This level of personal commitment evokes the "back against the wall" strategy, which stems from the many historical examples which prove that human beings are much more driven, creative, and productive when they feel that they’re up against a wall; that there’s no way out but to fight through.
    3. Work towards something you believe in.
The majority of Musk’s work ethic is generated by his conviction that humans need to reach Mars, and to eventually become a multi-planetary society. This huge, audacious goal is what drives Musk - and while many will say it’s impossible, or that it at least won’t happen in Musk’s lifetime, this goal has driven him and the teams at his companies to achieve other things that people thought impossible as well.
    4. Break your schedule into small chunks.
Musk uses a technique called time-boxing in order to break his day into 5-minute chunks. This allows him to fit in all the responsibilities that come along with running two companies, but time-boxing is a strategy that also creates some pressure - and as you probably know from the last time you procrastinated on an English paper, only to write the whole thing in one glorious, Red Bull-fueled all-nighter, time pressure is a motivating factor.

Within 1:30 min I totally agree with Elon Musk im showering.Literally, when I was in highschool,I showered every morning regardless of people telling my hair would get dry or whatever. I also showered bc I played sports and sometimes would shower 2x a day but still... showering in the morning just made me feel more rejuvinated even when only sleeping like 3 hours of sleep. When I woke up too late to shower,I would just feel so out of it. A shower changed how I felt the whole day. Never underestimate a good, relaxing shower.

Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new. If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it done. The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing. In life, people tend to wait for good things to come to them. And by waiting, they miss out. Hi guys!! Let me just share a quick story with you guys. :) We own a cookie shop business in our college town. When we first started it, we were living in our car with very little direction, just a huge passion to be successful. We just graduated college as well. We started the late night cookie shop out of a local bagel shop in their off hours at night. We were living in our car in the parking lot of the shop at the time with my boyfriend, Bran. It was a crazy experience but it worked! We became a success! And now we have 2 storefront locations in New Jersey and Florida! We started it to fund a year long backpacking trip around the world and to be successful while living the life of our dreams.

All motivation , success , miracle daily routine , meditation, silence, affirmation, visualization all are just imaginary world. These are traps.
If you want to really great in life , work like Elon musk 100 hour per week honestly. You will famous One day.
      Motivation-These are temporary,
The most powerful secret in success is believe in yourself . You are great. You have all potential inside use it . Take risk.
Desire is most powerful in this. What you really want to achieve.
Stop watching motivational videos. Do work like Elon Musk. 100 hour per week.

Walks with his legions, makes an example by fighting at the front lines, always at the center of all attention, takes himself seriously, takes on seemingly unachievable battles, wide knowledge base of diplomacy and military service, questioning experts and he questioned himself as well. These 5 tips remind me of things my husband would say. And the expansion of knowledge is something I've experienced. My college major was English with plans to teach, then my parents needed me so I took a break from school to work for them. After meeting and marrying my husband, computers entered our lives which allowed me to begin writing newsletters. Enter the World Wide Web. I had returned to school to update my skills, which included adding website design to my list. Today I am a professional website designer with the focus to help small businesses and organizations be successful. I would not have these additional skills without my husband's support. Don't EVER think that you've made a mistake with your college major or trade school decisions. Something will always be the right choice.

A famous writer, lecturing (while drunk) some aspiring writers, asked them "Do you want to be a writer?". When they said "Yes", he said: "Well, then, how come you're not writing?"
Thomas Frank's advice here might have credibility as tips for those who want to create positive thinking videos. Perfectly good advice.
If your pursuit of your interests (financial and otherwise) leads naturally to you to starting a business, do so. Watching Musk himself is for me as motivational as anything I've experienced.

I feel he's just more open about what he's working on then most companies. billionaires are private which creates the illusion he gets a lot more done than others. Germans tend to be secretive and released things when they're absolutely perfect, when Americans make a show of something in development.

The author wrote that book saying he'd publish it with or without Elon's approval ahahahaha he eventually got Elon to sit to dinner with him a couple of times to verify some stuff about the book.
It's REALLY GOOD I'm surprised Thomas didn't take much from the earlier chapters of Elon's time with Paypal and X.com where you can read about the full extent of his work ethic.

Have you ever heard of Olin Collegeof Engineering? I’m a student there. It’s an awesome, young engineering school that’s big on the growth mindset concept that you brought up. We’re all engineers, but we also have to dabble in design, entrepreneurship, science, and the humanities if we want to graduate.

I am 36, I am a doctor, I make great living, I have done good things and have few regrets in my life. This is what I learned in life so far, this is what can help you succeed:
    1. Don’t set crazy hard goals and don’t set easy simple goals. Also, don’t rush to set goals. My father was a teacher, he was respected and he made a good living, not that good though. When I was growing up, I thought I wanted to be successful, I wanted to be a teacher. Then my brother graduated with an engineering degree and I realized, it is way cooler to be an engineer than to be a teacher. When I enrolled in college, most of my friends were premeds, trying to get to medical school, so I started looking into it and I liked it so I decided to go to medical school and I did, and today I help people and I make great living and work 12 days a month. What do you learn from this: don’t hurry and set your goal, Search for a long time before you decide what you want to do. My brother who is an engineer teaches doctors in surgery how to implant devices he invented but they get all the glory and the money. I am not saying he is doing bad, but I am saying he should have set a higher goal for himself and he regretted not becoming a surgeon.
    2. Don’t waste time, I know I said that you should take long time to set goals, but don’t wait years. The most important time in your life, the time when you really need to work hard is your teens and twenties, don’t think that you can play now and work hard later, you will regret it. However, If you are in your thirties and older there is always chance to succeed but it gets harder with age and the goals shrink.
    3. Control your distractors and your urges: Control your drinking, control your sexual urges (find a girlfriend or a boyfriend that make you happy), control how much you socialize. Get rid of the things that waste your time like video games if you cannt control how much time you spend on that. You don’t need 5 TVs in your home or apartment. Don’t smoke. Don’t use drugs
    4. Get the Right tools: if you are a student, get the best desk, the best computers: laptop and desktop if you need, get the best chair etc, basically get all the tools you need to motivate you to work hard, don’t save few dollars on things that can help you succeed
    5. Eat healthy and exercise, very important things to motivate you, I will leave it at that
    6. Wear comfortable clothes, look good, cut your hair on time, all this make you feel good and motivate you to succeed.
    7. And Here is the main secret to Success: OBSESSION, OBSESSION, OBSESSION. Elon Musk, Steve Jobs and many others have one thing in common: they are obsessed about what they are working on. So even if you follow all the above steps, you may not succeed unless you obsess or you are a genius. 85% of the time I don’t remember where I parked my car, I cannot remember the names of the people I work with. I used to get zeros on my pop quizzes but 95-100 on my midterms and finals because I studied 12 hours a day, starting in elementary school. Whatever your goal is “GET OBSSESSED ABOUT IT”. Work hard, camp in your room if you wanna get high marks on your exams but also make sure you have pleasure in between which is very important to keep you going.
    8. Drink Coffee, caffeine, anything that get your energy and keep you going.
    9. Watch videos, listen to music that motivate you.
    10. Live a dreamy life, always dream about succeeding, think about how good things are gonna be when you reach your goal. Think of your goal as a game, a fun challenge and watch your self get closer to your goal everyday. Try not to get frustrated
    11. Evolve: if you are doing something and it is not work, then try to find out why, keep trying, ask, imitate people who are doing it right.

Great video! Well articulated... Articulated so well that if that if someone stated much of what you said verbatim in a job interview, they’d either land that job (with minimum contemplation on the part of the hiring manager) or be rejected in fear of said person surpassing the hiring manager.

    Hi Thomas,
I work in landscaping, my boss has been doing it for nearly 30 years. The foreman little over 16 years, Me, 15 months. Both of them are Jacks of all trade master of none types. Not wanting to learn new skills so long as the ones they have for adequate. Of course this means that every job takes 3 or 4 times longer than it should. Every time I meantion learning something that could increase productivity, they both look at me like i’m an idiot. Then, when th job goes wrong because it woks done properly in the place, we spend, no waste, more time fixing it, which of course costs US money. Our tool and equipment don’t really fare much better either, most or falling apart, but still “kinda work”, which means, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. But then it brakes and my boss stresses himself out over what to do. If i mention maybe putting the tools in for a service, I get that “you’re and idiot” look.
I feel like this company could do so much more/better. But even though I want to change things, I’m at the bottom, not the top, and changing th Minds of th two over me isn’t easy because they both still see me as “The New Guy”.
How do I get them to change or at least, see sense?

I have one question that I can't get out of my head since I finished Elon Musks biography: How can you stand 80 hours of work every week, without getting burned out?

    • @freilezjawa8328
      @freilezjawa8328 7 років тому +16

Klappadu you wont burn out if you work on something you really love and has big meaning to you. Let me give you the hypothetical question: lets say from now on until the end of your life you would get 10.000 a month to live. What would you do then? Elon had that and he chose to start a company.
