Hey Mudvayne fans. If you have any questions about the 1997 to 1998 years I'm the guy who promoted the "Shredfest" concerts in Peoria, IL. Chad, Greg, Matt, and Ryan were laser focused on their band and they worked hard. My little part was putting them in contact with some music industry friends and it was 100% their work and drive after that. They were living in the a tattoo shop driving a sawed off school bus that was painted black. Mudvayne was going big with or without my efforts but the stars aligned and we got a Peoria band on Epic. I had worked for Sony/Epic in NYC and then NFL Films, NJ. My NFL buddies came to Peoria and shot the live concert. Chad always orders fresh McDonald's fries and he wants them hot and crispy. He also drinks pickle juice to stay hydrated. These are the important pieces of information I have. 😂 After the Shredfest concerts I'd go play my drums in cover bands until 4am to actually make $100. V Shaped Mind played one of those shows. 3AMProject, Single File Suicide, One Shot One Kill, Lidlifter, The Groodies, and a slew of other Central Illinois metal bands. (20 years ago) Chad said hi to me after the Madison Theatre show and he was very grateful saying, "I only have you to thank." Although I was very honored I know that Mudvayne was going to make it anyway. They didn't need me. They sent me a gold record and they've had careers in music! THAT my friends feels good. The Mudvayne to Archspire Pipeline is real. Between this and your video on KoRn, you've described one half of the way I got into metal as a black kid in the early oughts/late 90's in South Texas. We heard Dig on the radio, and it changed the game fam. Thanks for this!
I always wanted to see mudvayne talked about In the same breath as korn or slip it felt like people only saw the theatrics and the brr brr dang at first but now it's tight asf to see mudvayne just straight up solidified them selfs I just got into their music this year and I must say I'm definitely a huge fuckin fan💯
Never really got into the band... but those basstracks from Ryan are awesome and a joy to hear. 'Death Blooms' is easily one of their best song, to me.
Dig is still one of my favorite songs. Mudvayne are a very unique band, and are a helluva lot more talented than they get credit for. I hated them when they first came out, but they grew on me over time. I became a huge fan once I saw how talented they actually were.
Mudvayne truly was my gateway band. I have a brother 9 years older than me. When I was a little kid I'd always wanna hang out with him, and he listened to tons of bands from this era. Disturbed, Static-X, Korn, System of a Down...etc. He listened to Mudvayne too. They were the first band with screaming/growling vocals i ever liked to listen to. I didnt get into that kind of stuff until I was like 12ish. But Mudvayne was being listened to in my house since i was like 6. And I actually really liked them. I still do. They paved the way for a lot of bands without anyone really even realizing it. Even bands that already existed before them. It's amazing to see them finally get this recognition. I always knew they deserved it.
Awesome show Finn! I instantly think of Anthony Junior on Sopranos going to see a mudvayne gig. The dig video was iconic and sticks in most people heads like me who don’t know them that well. Fascinating history! Thanks!
The drums and guitar keep their songs accessible and grounded while the bass and vocals give them a standout edge against a lot of other bands. Not every song is as impactful as Dig, but the overall sound is very unique to Mudvayne.
LD50 is such a good album. I think I was ten when that came out. My parents were horrified lol. That really was a transcendent Metal album though. Ryan Martinie’s jazzy basslines really made that entire album. He’s such a talented bassist. I never got into their subsequent work as much, but to ten year old me (as if I knew anything lol) LD50 was a masterpiece. Edit: YES I’m so happy that other comments are also recognizing his talent!
I remember watching the video for Determined off the record Lost and Found over and over and over again as a kid. I was mesmerized by this band in my youth.
Got to play a few shows with them back in the day when they were first starting to put themselves out there and you could definitely see even then that they were going to be something big. Great band!
I loved these guys from the moment I heard dig and went out and bought LD 50. I thought on those first two albums Chad Gray's lyrics still remain some of the best written in that time. I saw them in 2003 open for Metallica on an off date of the Summer Sanitarium tour and remember seeing those guys give it all onstage while people stood there with their arms folded totally ignoring the awesomeness they were seeing. I would say the only album I could not get into was The New Game. I actually loved their self titled as I thought they were getting back to what they did on the first two albums just to have them go away after that and never really thought they would get back together. I was so glad I got to see them on the Freaks on Parade tour. Even though weather cut all the sets short I still loved and was amazed how they still have that energy! Way excited to hear they are in the early stages on creating new music
Mudvayne is still underrated. The lyrics and symbolism touched on some esoteric beliefs. Also, the musicianship was pretty incredible next to their peers.
I remember Mudvayne winning that VMA they came up on stage in suits to collect their award for my 13 year old self I thought that was the coolest! Fast forward to the year 2005 I played happy quite a bit when I was in ICU after surgery sadly have never seen them live I have seen hell yeah many times and I have met Chad super cool guy he even gave me a kiss!
Mudvayne when they first came out were a spectacle to behold. I wonder how successful their live DVD was. It blew me away at the time and it was one I watched several times over.
This describes how I like Mudvayne perfectly. I listen to LD 50 after it came out for like 5 years and then my taste of music just got heavier and heavier and then I kind of forgot about Mudvayne. 15 years later and I got UA-cam on my phone and I just started making mixes and I started listening to Mudvayne again and I was just like God damn this is such a good album
My dad bought this album when it was first out and I just never understood it being like 8 years old.. now that I'm 28, I definitely understand why he bought it and why the album was so important to him at the time.
These guys along w/Slipknot were my gateway bands into more extreme music. I slowly got into heavier and heavier bands. Mudvayne/Slipknot came before death/Black metal to me.
I have been a huge mudvayne fan. I will admit I kinda came across them with dig but didnt really dive into them til Not Falling and World So Cold but as I got older and dove into harder and more progressive music I really fell in love with them. I saw them 12 years ago and then saw them a month a go. SUCH AN AMAZING LIVE BAND. I get that people get upset when a band changes sound/direction after falling in love with them. But as an artist they have to grow and evolve. Its not always great but I enjoy that journey.
I remember seeing Dig for the first time on MTV. I’ve been a waster ever since. I’m glad they finally seem to be getting the recognition they’ve deserved throughout the years.
Ayo a new Finn joint! Hell yeah I've been all about this channel lately. Great stuff. Best thing about Finn is he's not afraid to admit that he enjoys pop music. Respect
I think you’re starting to see a Nu Metal resurgence and I’m all for it. Limp Bizkit released their Nu (see what I did) album last year. Kid Rock went back to his Nu Metal roots, Slipknot are releasing a Nu album next week, Staind are releasing an album next year, Disturbed has an album coming soon and Mudvayne are reunited. It’s 2000 all over again and I’m here for every bit of it
"Josh Dyle" Agree with your opinion but don't forget Nu Metal has actually had a revival since the Early-Mid 2010s mostly via Metalcore and Deathcore bands putting it into their sound
That Dig video dropped my freshman year at Bradley University in Peoria. You could not escape it. It played twice an hour on the college music channel.
I was always into Mudvayne. And I remember being called a weird kid for being so into them, but musically they were like nothing else in their era. Amazing band
TEOATTC is spectacular. If you can ever find the DualDisc with the 5.1 mix, you don't know what you're missing. It enhances what was already good and made it even better.
I always adored how raw and also weird they sounded, yet there was so much feel in the vocals, that made them really stand out to me from all other Nu Metal I was into
I have always been a huge fan of mudvayne was heartbroken when they broke up and was so excited when I heard they were coming back I hope that we get a new album and I hope I get to see them live also mudvayne was one of the first really heavy bands I ever heard (slipknot being the first)
As a teenager raised on classic nu metal, i remember hearing LD 50 when it came out and thinking it was the most technical music i’d ever heard. it definitely helped me get into even more techy stuff like DEP
There are songs I like on LD50 but it was not my favorite album of theirs. It was the follow up that I listened to the most. End of all things to come was in constant rotation when I was driving to and from work. Patient Mental is still one of my favorite songs from that era.
Growing up in early 2000’s I’m 31 now this band was like no one else out there. Maybe slipknot but more heavy. Their make up really got many people into giving them a listen but there sound made you a fan right away or not at all. So proud of them being back together.
One thing you didn’t mention is that Clown from Slipknot got them on their first tours. He’s actually credited as an executive producer on L.D. 50 even though he didn’t have any influence on the creative process
Mudvayne isn't known for bounce riffs, and yet they wrote the greatest bounce riff of all time. Of course, I'm talking about the one and only "Internal Primates Forever".
I did. Then I gave up. Then they came back and Chad has ruined his voice and is getting old. He pissed me off, I hated hell yeah lol, loved Mudvayne. I saw them when they were good. Still love the other members, but Chad is a real disappointment to me.
End of all things to come is what really turnd me on to their music. As a drummer, who absolutely loves weird timing signatures... I geeked the fuck out! I absolutely loved the entire album! The original "not falling" video was and still is one of my absolute favorites! If it wasn't for Chad and Gregg, I never would have listened to hellyeah. When Alcohol and ass hit the radio, I instantly knew who the front man was and that was before I knew who it was.... I am definitely waiting for them to do something new!
I still can listen to LD50 front to back. Great lyrics and musicianship. Really connected personally with some of the songs. Even loved the 2nd album. The 3rd album was the last I actually owned. Chad has an awesome range but they seemed to lose what made them my favorite bamd thru the early 2000's. I wait with cautious optimism on any new music they put out. Stay metal Finn!
What got me hooked to them recently was World So Cold, I’ve never heard a song like that from any band, it’s like super melodic but then hard hitting then like soaring, such an interesting song and my favorite song from mudvayne
They were at my first concert in 2001 with System of a Down, Rammstein, and Slipknot. It was not long after 9/11. "Not Falling" is such a great song. Their other albums are solid too.
I love The New Game album, i dont consider it flat but More straight forward and accessible musically. Its on My top 3 nu-metal records. And anyone who thinks Mudvayne might Be too weird or heavy, just start to listen from The New Game, then go to older stuff. Their sound grows on you and its easier to appreciate their first records when digesting their discography from easier listening to more complex compositions.
Same thing with Coheed & Cambria. It's hard to fully appreciate Second Stage Turbine Blade & what it accomplished until you hear how they sound now, it makes you hear it in a "humble beginnings" kind of way.
People said the same thing about their album Year of the Black Rainbow as they did about The New Game, & I feel the same about it as you do. Awesome music that doesnt get near the respect it deserves.
Maybe I'm an outlier but I remember Mudvayne got me out of nu-metal for good. I saw their video and was just like what are we doing really and I kind of moved on in life.
I revisited this video as I’m in a Mudvayne-listening phase. I will say that without a doubt, L.D. 50 is incredibly good. While Dig is their most popular song, I think is extremely overrated compared to what that record has to offer. Listening to Prod is such an experience. The musicianship in that song is a showcase of the talent of the band. Is like if Tool decided to make a fun prog metal song. Is kinda cool the way that the song is slow and somehow they make it build up into a breakdown that is so packed with energy it can have an entire arena bouncing and moshing. Pharmaecopia is also a song that if anything I would’ve even put out as a single. The song itself is technical but the chorus is incredibly catchy and let’s not talk about the bass work. They’re just a powerhouse all around that somehow went over the radar for almost 20 years compared to other bands of the era. I’m glad they’re finally seeing success at the big stages. I remember reading one of Ryan’s interviews and talking about how excited he was that people were noticing Mudvayne again as he has put so much heart into the band. If you guys have not listened to at least L.D. 50, I strongly recommend you give it a spin. That record and Lost and Found are incredibly good. Excited to see them live this Summer!
To me, their work perfectly displayed and heard is off of the song "Severed" from that album. Just a masterpiece from all of them individually, coalesced into chaotic beauty.
As someone who is brought to tears by the memories linked with LD 50 and EOATTC, just a deep emotional connection to the lyrics and tone of those albums I am so glad to see this type of content popping up lately after their return. Warms my heart to see these dudes get accolades as well as things like your statement about them getting the respect and notoriety of the set-in-stone bands like Deftones etc. Great video!

Ryan is a huge influence on my bass playing. Shows you can be creative and heavy af.
Nice, thanks for mentioning Candiria, such an overlooked band. Would be cool to see a video on them..
You should do a video on Static X and industrial nu metal, still holds up honestly
Mudvayne got me into the heavy stuff too. I absolutely love Mudvayne.
Another band the took Nu Metal to different heights and paved the way for me and my musical ventures. Salute and brr brr deng! 🤘🏼💀
They are so good! Love Matt's drumming they are a complete package
I love Mudvayne I'm glad they are back together after being away so long. I hope they make new music
Awesome show Finn! I instantly think of Anthony Junior on Sopranos going to see a mudvayne gig. The dig video was iconic and sticks in most people heads like me who don’t know them that well. Fascinating history! Thanks!
Chad's voice is so unique I have a hard time telling whether it's Mudvayne or Hellyeah on the radio at times... unless I know the song already
Chad Gray falling off stage during NOT FALLING is still the funniest moment of 2022. 😅
Love mudvayne.
Dunno if funny, but it is ironic… …Okay, it’s hysterical too!
The drums and guitar keep their songs accessible and grounded while the bass and vocals give them a standout edge against a lot of other bands. Not every song is as impactful as Dig, but the overall sound is very unique to Mudvayne.
I adore their second album, very slept on.
This would play in my head as I ran during track meets.
@@F2t0ny 1 2 3 GO!
@@im.weasel Exactly!
That rhythm section of Ryan and Matt is what I think took them to the next level
That live DVD is incredible.
Mudvayne and Nothingface were probably the best bands from that era
Mudvayne got a mention on the sopranos. AJ and his friends went to a mudvayne concert In new York
I listen to hardcore/beatdown now but ld50 will forever be one of my favourites purely because it was my gateway into alternate music as a whole
Big same, along SOAD
@@relativ6192 them too
I half expected the intro to be a remix that went BRR BRR BRR DENG BRR BRR BRR DENG
The moment you said "Static-X" something lit up in my mind... also, R.I.P Wayne...
Respect
Thank you!
I thought the guy from Staind makes country music now?
And don't forget nu-er nu-metal bands. Like Fever 333, Vendet and others. The resurgence has been going on for quiet some time.
Korn too
Ryan Martinie is a fkin wizard on that bass. Such an underrated player, and his work kicks Mudvayne's music up a notch
Saw them last night at pine knob in Michigan. AMAZING SHOW. Whole band kicked ass🤘🤘
I seen them Friday in Ohio. Chad was hitting those damn notes amazingly
Brr brr deng!! Transcended time!!
I always adored how raw and also weird they sounded, yet there was so much feel in the vocals, that made them really stand out to me from all other Nu Metal I was into
I have always been a huge fan of mudvayne was heartbroken when they broke up and was so excited when I heard they were coming back I hope that we get a new album and I hope I get to see them live also mudvayne was one of the first really heavy bands I ever heard (slipknot being the first)
im sooo happy that theyre on tour again. I never had the chance to see them.
I always thought Mudvayne’s LD50 was really something special.
Mudvayne is one of my fav Metal Bands! Chad Grey can go really hard and also melodic. The Guitars/Drums really get the adrenaline flowing also!
Was at Inkcarceration 2021 for their 1st show back and it was crazy to see them for their 1st time being after such a long hiatus.
Being a huge Mudvayne fan in high school made me who I am today: socially awkward. I love them 🙂 and Archspire lmao
One thing you didn’t mention is that Clown from Slipknot got them on their first tours. He’s actually credited as an executive producer on L.D. 50 even though he didn’t have any influence on the creative process
I loved New Game
Mudvayne isn't known for bounce riffs, and yet they wrote the greatest bounce riff of all time. Of course, I'm talking about the one and only "Internal Primates Forever".
Ryan is one of the greatest bassists in all of metal. at least mainstream metal
They headlined the Final “Livestock Music Festival” (06) here in Florida and what a show that was. Definitely an experience I’ll never forget
This was a story that needed to be told. People wanted them back soo bad for many years.
I don't think they lost anything. I think they got older and stopped being so damn angry all the time. Who really knows?
What got me hooked to them recently was World So Cold, I’ve never heard a song like that from any band, it’s like super melodic but then hard hitting then like soaring, such an interesting song and my favorite song from mudvayne
They were at my first concert in 2001 with System of a Down, Rammstein, and Slipknot. It was not long after 9/11. "Not Falling" is such a great song. Their other albums are solid too.
That is a solid lineup of bands.
@@gamingvampire1604oh yeah for sure. in retrospect I don't think that tour could be possible these days
I smashed The End of All Things to Come on repeat for months maybe years. It was incredible.
It still is. I listen to it frequently.
I also like it
To be nitpicky but fade in with that audio track for when you do the ad read. That pop is a killer with headphones on.
Maybe I'm an outlier but I remember Mudvayne got me out of nu-metal for good. I saw their video and was just like what are we doing really and I kind of moved on in life.
These guys got stamina...💯✔️ I seen'em this year rocking🎸out at Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana...🤘🏼
The end of all things to come is killer to listen to. It's probably my favorite Mudvayne album.
“World so cold” still slaps
LD 50 turned me onto Terence McKenna leading me further down the counter culture rabbit hole, likely changing my life forever.
Ryan Martinie inspired an entire generation of metal bassist and changed their lives forever just by going BRBR DENG
I think LD50 is literally one the greatest albums, ever.
I saw Mudvayne with Slipknot at the Celebrity theater before LD50 came out. It was an incredible show. I was an instant fan.
LD 50 is such a phenom of an album. Definitely aged better than most of their peers’ albums.
The first album had really heart wrenching songs about abuse and neglect that hit home but made it art so they will always be legends
