Herron Cove side here.....blessed no water damage. So so many trees down, snapped in two and huge uprooted trees ( root systems over 12 feet tall ). There absolutely had to be tornado hits. Three times I heard the roaring sound like trains barreling through. I have lived on the same property 55 years....no one could have planned for or imagined we would expirence this in our safe idealic mountains. I am grateful to live among these beautiful people. The sounds of chainsaws echoing throughout, clearing the way for one another. People helping people.....brought together by such power. I wouldnt want to live anywhere else!!!

Western North Carolina didn't get a hurricane. Helene stopped being a hurricane in South Georgia. North Carolina got hit by a tropical storm - remnants of a hurricane. The path that this storm took is no different than many of the snowstorms and torrential rains in history. What made this so bad was the week of rain that preceded the tropical storm and the intensity of the rainfall. This was a flood, not a hurricane.
The majority of people were surprised by this event because they said to themselves, "We don't get hurricanes in the mountains." They were all correct. What they got was a deadly tropical storm that local meteorologists warned about for nearly a week - to include mudslides, flash flooding and loss of life.
Maybe folks will maintain better situational awareness, moving forward, and not state that, "It has never gotten above 9ft in my lifetime."

Was a great video, as it happened. Just outside of Boone NC we lost power in the night, and cell internet by 9:30am, and complete cell failure by 10am. I went out and did some still photos around 11am, was not prepared for the devastation and roads washed out. It took close to 2 days before the water was out of the roads and we could attempt to move some cars. Power and internet took over 2 weeks to return. We had cell service back after 6 days.

I’ve watched a ton of videos over the past few days. Yours is absolutely the best Mr. Eavenson! The best! I hope that those grey structures were not yours. You took it from past to current to after the storm. The info and quality was perfect! You were so calm. You didn’t talk too much or too little. I really hope you continue posting your experiences. We can see the French Broad River from our home that sits on a hill where there’s never a worry about it coming up and harming us. If the river came up this hill, we will have to built an arc if you get what I mean. Being up here, we got our share of tornado type wind. The river got full and raging but it was magnificent and fantastic from up here. We’re surrounded by forest and rolling hills so we didn’t even know about all the flash flooding in all of WNC. I had never even seen a flash flood before and had it not been for your video, I still wouldn’t know the power of a “flash flood.” We had one small oak tree branch that fell across our driveway but the only ONE great neighbor that lives down below us removed it the very next day. Other than that, there are no other trees down, even across the river and we haven’t been witness to the horrific tragedies of our neighboring counties in WNC are enduring. We didn’t have power or WiFi for about 8 days and we literally didn’t have the first picture or video that showed us what was going on. I’ve been seeing many of them and cannot stop the tears from rolling down my face. I think the main thing we are suffering from is the astronomical increases of food and there not being any of it available. I have lost a lot of weight and it’s not good. Anyways, thanks again for your quality, informative video and I surely hope you keep making them. Jeri - Alexander (Woodfin). We are edged between downtown Asheville and Weaverville.

Having lived in Texas it’s normal to see creeks turn to raging rivers and commercial dumpsters float down main roads. I would have call or gone to my neighbors and had them move their cars to higher ground. The stores look like San Antonio during hurricane season Katrina. @@joesmoe5489 I am glad to hear that and we are happy to do it! We saw first hand the mountain resilience and grit. Wonderful folks out there. I lived in Upstate SC for many years and now near Raleigh. I was in Lansing & Boone last month and we found a trailer park (near New River I think?) and many in need there. One person showed me video of that day and the almost to the ceiling of trailers. Very sad. You all are still in our prayers and on our prayer lists. What towns over there would you say need help the most now?

Sorry my friend I lost this reply and could not find it. I don't know about the area around us so much, I have been staying close to home to let the workers in and not get in their way. I was listing today in my area of barnardsville, people here are looking for heated propane and kerosene for heat it is going to get colder next week. I'm glad we are in your prayers you are in mine as well. This was a storm that God let happen it showed me that people are still good in general I was taken back by the love that God showed us through the people. I'm glad you are a Christian you can understand.
