Brings me to tears almost I'm English and toured/ stayed there, with my American lady),June 2022( Bryson City was our base. We absolutely loved it there. I was drawn there from England by the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. Everyone made us so welcome. I wish you guys to stay safe and stay healthy. American power can rebuild. I would suggest the marines bring in some hovercraft. Its the perfect craft for these dreadful conditions. God bless America.

Devastating flooding in Western North Carolina has impacted areas like Maggie Valley, Cherokee, and Bryson City, leaving behind widespread damage. My heart goes out to all those affected-hoping for safety, resilience, and swift recovery efforts as the communities work through this challenging time

I’m in Johnson City. I take road trips all the time through western North Carolina. All up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway. I’ve kept my curiosity at bay and not driven down that way since the hurricane.. I just can’t believe based on the videos how much everything is changed and the places that I’ve been to so many times have been altered or in some cases completely destroyed.

In the summer of 2023 Vermont was hit by a 10 inch rain storm, which may not sound like much. The issue was it had been raining hard on and off for two months. It then rained another seven or so inches. The state capital was flooded along with many of its small towns. Farmers lost all their crops. A year later a similar storm on the same exact day damaged the state again. The days of 1,000 year storms are over. I am sorry for all of your losses. So many lives lost and so many peoples lives changed forever. Take care

Im In WNC, this area. The worse part is, they saying only about 1% of homes will get insurance money. They saying everything is “flood” related. Because nobody had flood insurance. Landslide, everything. I guarantee ya they be raising our rates, more than they always do, just like Florida.

This is what concerns me. When Katrina happened. Many left to go to other states to be with family, or to find affordable housing. Lack of places to be able to stay. Very concerning since we had a housing crisis before this. Now , they did do the FEma trailers in N.O. I don’t know if they will here. The terrain is different.

That is so heartbreaking to me words don't even describe it I've been going up there since I was a kid my granny and Grandpa would take all the grandkids and the moms and then the moms carried on the tradition not to forget our heritage a Native American Cherokee then my husband and me he absolutely thought it was gorgeous because he was from the Flatlands he never seen mountains that beautiful and I'm a Christian and I'm just going to say how he used to say it when you pull over and look at those mountains he would look at me and say baby them mountains are bitching because he never seen mountains like that until he came down here and met me and then my husband passed away in a few years after he passed away my daughter oldest child and son-in-law and my youngest grandson took me up there not really enjoyed it we stayed in a cabin called Almost Paradise when I seen what had happened all I could do was look up and say it's gone Steve it's gone when I seen that chairlift that was the virtual list that me and my husband was on the last time we was up there he was afraid of heights if I just shake it a little bit he would freak out and when you was going up you go over a little creek what name of enough water Harley in it to cover your feet and you can see my car once you got up a little you know pretty high my prayers with everybody up there because I know how y'all feel I don't live there you might as well say I did as much as I've been there it's kind of like my second home what were the tenacity of the people in the toughness in the character in the brightness of these people that live there they will build back quickly and I wish I was able to drive up there cuz I would help anyway I could God bless all of y'all ❤❤😢😢😢😢😢

What a beautiful part of our country that I been to several times on our vacations from the New Orleans area.
For Hurricane Katrina it was neglect of our levees by the National Corp of Engineers where a major city was 80% flooded. However, it was in a contained area.
This disaster is spread over several states & has effected pockets of small towns.
Don't expect FEMA to help these poor people who probably have no Flood Insurance.

You had already had 3 days of hard rain over the mountains and the Piedmont of North carolina due to a Stalled out cold front and the mountains foothills and puedmont was already under a tornado and flash flood watch well before Helene arrived and in fact the tornados and flash floodin arrived right as Helene arrived. We had 6 tornados here in the piedmont So really ALL of Western North Carolina was affected From the Piedmont All the way thru the monutains. Wedidnt get hit here though nearly as hard as the mountains and foothills did

As obras vão usar todas jazidas desses materiais .

@@JunkTrucks, I hear you, but once the water was clearly rising in those parking lots with people staying in hotels or motels, it was time to make the call to get them out of there. I would've pulled up with school buses and taken them to higher-ground schools.

Laugh out loud...!! who listens to their local leaders...the storm made landfall on a Thursday evening, and was getting into the mountains the next day...that is plenty of time for people to judge how much of it they wanted to take on, as assuredly it was THE topic on every radio and tv station...property destruction cannot be helped beforehand, but no one needed to die...even fake news we do not trust does the weather forecast half-@ssed right...long time residents do now have a new benchmark of reference for how bad it can get, but the old benchmarks weren't that far off, just ignored...'you can lead a horse to water...'

When you're traveling and you witness the locals out in numbers taking pics & videos of the rising floodwaters... ...get to higher ground a.s.a.p!!!! Because more than likely, they've never seen the water that high either!! Prayers for all affected!!! So so devastating!! Great footage by the way!!

Very sad, I was just up in Canton, Asheville area Dec 17-21, the devastation I saw still and heard on radio stations was sad. How this current administration can send billions, and I mean billions of tax payers dollars to everywhere else but doesn't take care of our citizens is sad. Support local businesses, people in that area affected.

Americans have the right to the second amendment for a reason. Maybe FEMA should be forced to leave the area when you look at how much damage they are allowing to happen.

I’m sorry, it this is just stupid. Any minute that road could have dissolved under you. Grab as many people as you can and get away! You would yell fire and try to get people out. Yell water! Get out. I live in Asheville. I still don’t have water and many people I know lost loved ones or their homes so don’t come at me. This isn’t someone sitting in NYC (which will flood like this one day soon) judging you. This is someone saying WAKE UP! Stop watching the water rise like it’s just a TV show and get the hell away from it. Get out of the way of first responders and get out!

    • @JunkTrucks
      @JunkTrucks  3 місяці тому +1

Hey Kathryn, since you live in Asheville when this happened you should know getting out wasn’t as simple as your saying. For most of the weekend we could not leave the Maggie valley area at all, in fact we were lucky that we were able to get out of western nc when we did. I’m sure people would have loved to get out, but landslides and flooded roads made it impossible, the land itself where those roads were aren’t even there anymore. This will take decades to recover from.
