I had the same fear as well. Maybe not specifically sharks, but of getting dragged underwater by something. Great video Robert and I believe it it something that’s way more common than anyone realizes. 😁🤙🌊🔥
It's important to have a reassuring swim partner who is willing to remind somebody by saying things like, "ain't no shark." "that percentage is low, baby, don't you go on worry bout nothin"
On the bottom of my raft in big red letters it says I AM NOT A SEAL, this is for passing sharks to see, my luck I will get that one shark that can't read.
Yes, Florida is the shark bite capital but even in Florida your chances of being attacked by a shark are minimal compared to almost anything else you do in life, only about one in three million beach users: www.beachhunter.net/thingstoknow/sharks/index.htm
man the reason im afraid of sharks is simple, first they are carniovores, second they got sharp razor teeth, this combination alone is enough.. but lemme continue, if it happens dat i come across a shark obviously ima be in the water, and water is not my element, im slow, cant see well, cant fight back well cause water resist my movements, so dats a big disadvantage. and the shark dont now that im a "human", dat i got a family at home, dat my friends are waiting for me, dat my dog is waitin for me, husband, lover, pizza guy, ur grandmother with the homemade cookies dat she made for u whatever.. they just dont know, they dont have this level of conciousness.. they dont know dat u have dreams, dat u made plans for tomorrow, for next year, they just DONT KNOW, they dont have this conciousness. so if a shark is hungry or not specifically because of hunger but simple decides to bite u and eventually kill u. they will just do, and this will just happen. so stop trying to give reasons not to feel afraid of sharks, WE SHOULD feel afraid, they are predators. we shud RESPECT. peace
I totally understand your fear, i used to feel exactly the same but I go in the water almost every day and have never encountered an aggressive shark in my 50+ years. They are not interested in us as food, otherwise there would be shark attacks every day in Hawaii. Worry is a wasted emotion, I have learned to enjoy the ocean without fear and it feels great. I respect sharks, of course, they are amazing creatures and I am comfortable sharing the water with them. I can live with the very small risk that I might get bit one day, just like I accept the much greater risk of driving a car or crossing a street or going in public where I could catch a deadly virus or get shot by some nut with a gun. Those things are all much more likely to happen than being attacked by a shark. It’s an understandable fear but it’s not rational, that’s all I’m saying. I hope that makes sense. 🤙🏼
@@blueplanetsurf ok maybe they dont see us as food, but what if they decide to bite for curiosity? animals are curious.. i wish i could feel confortable in the ocean, im basically grown up in the beach, but i feel very vulnerable when im in the water, like every shadow or different thing i see i freak out lol
I think it’s funny when people worry about irrational fears like this (and yes, considering these statistics, it IS, for the most part, an irrational fear!!) because it makes me want to ask, what makes YOU so special to think that if all the people this CAN happen to, that it WILL be you?! Seems like a very egotistical thing to think when you actually stop to do so! 😂😂😂
Well what if I am part of the “one in 5 people” Who get attacked? … I can hang out almost waste deep but I would never just cruise on a boat in the middle of the ocean, and then just jump in the ocean and swim around. no fucking way
@@blueplanetsurf I will stick to frolicking along the coastline lol…. if I was with diving professionals, I would do it but that terrifies me. I don’t have any fears in life but things I can eat you in the ocean are definitely one of them.
Yes, here is a list of shark incidents in Hawaii, keep in mind that millions enjoy the ocean every year and fatalities are rare, you can draw your own conclusions: dlnr.hawaii.gov/sharks/shark-incidents/incidents-list/
It may has been 2 years since you have posted this but it helped a lot! Thanks so much!
Glad it helped!

Yes, I can relate, even if you know there are no sharks in the water, fear of swimming in deep open water is very common.
Thanks for the video. This was my first hit on google, the start of a positive journey.
Good to hear, I hope it helps and that you can overcome this fear, Happy New Year!
It's important to have a reassuring swim partner who is willing to remind somebody by saying things like, "ain't no shark." "that percentage is low, baby, don't you go on worry bout nothin"
That is a good idea!
I’m not afraid of sharks, but curious to see what is said in this video
Nice, it took me quite a while to get there.
On the bottom of my raft in big red letters it says I AM NOT A SEAL, this is for passing sharks to see, my luck I will get that one shark that can't read.
Haha, you are a genius!
I heard the colors black and white are colors that sharks look out for and avoid.
I heard that too, and to avoid yum yum yellow but not sure if there is any scientific proof 🤙🏼
@@blueplanetsurf yum yum yellow indeed. Sharks are attached to bright colors..
I wing foil in Lake Michigan. I have a fear of Hypothermia!
Haha, yes that’s scary too
Thank you for this video, i still cannot overcome my fear of sharks :(
It’s a process but don’t give up and the more you can overcome your fear, the less it will affect you.
We need to stop killing the sharks, get the message out!!!
👍 agreed
If you get bit by a shark, you gonna give up surfing?
I will keep going into the ocean as long as I can 🤙🏼
Yes
I am not really scared of being eatin by a shark. I am just scared of seeing one
Interesting. Seeing sharks has made me less afraid of them because they have never acted aggressive towards me.
LOL, in florida chances are pretty high one is gonna "taste" you, don't worry, they just spit you out.
