Loving the progression and seeing new ideas coming through. Especially the 360 shuvits! The kids are freaking riding hard and boosting on another level. So freaking sweet!
@@JaminJonesMaui ah, thanks for the correction, I’ve never been to the Hatchery myself unfortunately - for one I’m not skilled enough to deal with the power of the winds there. Maybe some day…. I was assuming the video was being shot from the south bank.
Amazing skills aside, and maybe just the camera angle but it looks like absolute chaos. Looks like people are going to land on each other left and right.
It's filmed with a long lens, which does "compress" close and distant objects. In reality there's tons of distance. The river is almost a mile wide there, but doesn't look that.
Love it windsurf, Kitesurf, wing foil all in one video. I was supposed to be in the gorge, but got sick in portland and had to head back to florida, bummer, but at least i got to see some action on YT>. Seems like most wingers are using a boom style wing. Larry
I can do forward loop on a windsurfer (jump high before initiating a quick rotation, not end over end but more of a sideways spin) but have not learned it wing foiling, maybe someone else can give pointers?
I was kiting through on a downwinder (maybe even a cameo here) and the action was definitely higher caliber than this and last year's contests - highest I've witnessed too.
Many of the newer models of wing have short booms rather than multiple separate handles, supposedly it permits for more fine tuning of hand placement. If I ever get up myself, I’ll be able to report back 😂. I just got a board, sail and some foils a few weeks ago and I’m trying to get the hang of it. My wing is a Duotone 6m which has a boom, roughly 40 inch piece of aluminum that they sell for $100 Canadian 😳
Would love to see Chris McDonald and Cash Berzola face off against each other in freestyle and wave riding. 1 heat in each discipline would be awesome.
Yes, it's the same industry. And I'm already seeing the same progression of behavior where they over focus on niche performance clientele rather than making the sport more accessible and affordable. Think windsurfing, kiting, paddleboards, and now foiling.
Windsurfing was dying a long slow death before foiling (or even kitesurfing) came along. Many of the same folks developing all this cool kite and wing gear were windsurfing pioneers. You see kids picking up foiling now in a fraction of the time it took us to learn shortboarding, jibes, etc.
Thanks for the feedback. We have to use royalty free music on UA-cam so popular artists are not an option. You can always mute the music and listen to something you personally enjoy listening to.🤙🏼
@@blueplanetsurf Sorry for that harsh criticism. Unfortunately this youtube/social media development makes music so worthless and not enjoyable. Please don't take this comment personally. It is more a criticism to whats happening to music in general. As you might guess i am not only a musician but I am a little bit older. Maybe I listen to music a little bit different than the most people.... (who knows). Anyway I love the footage, pretty rad what they do wingfoiling. 👍 And now feel free to delete my unqualified comment ...😉

The shuvits looked super sketchy 😬
@@blueplanetsurf Oh they absolutely do.
1:49 bro with the kite is like “I’m just gonna fly all the way back to Portland” 😎. 😂
Haha, yes!
Except he was headed towards The Dalles
Hope he doesn't hit a tree on the way

@@sjsomething4936, I'm sure @JaminJonesMaui misses the hatch (and The Dalles 😆).

True, I’m surprised that there are not more collisions.

So epic! Such a crazy day 🤙🤙
Yes it was! 🔥
insane skills
Yes! 🤯
Great video Rob. Amazing days leading up to AWSI.
Thank you 🙏🔥🤙🏼
Nice tunes 🤠
Thank you!
Looks like you had a fun time. Right on Robert! I enjoyed this. Glad it is doing so well!
Thanks, we had a great time! 🤙🏼
This is definitely on my list of places to visit !
Hood River is worth a visit 👍
It sucks... stay home. 😋
I know fun when I see it and that’s it
💪🔥🙏🤙🏼

Next time!
Awesome video, definitely a place i want to visit some time. Level is crazy high there :D !
It really is, you should!
As an old windsurfer from the 80`s I`m flashed to see this the first time ...
Wing Foiling is like re living the stoke of windsurfing in the 80’s!
Great video! 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you, I watched some of your product videos, well done! 👍
great interviews....thanks Rob 🤙
I appreciate the comment!
wow what a great collection of watersports!
Yes, thanks
Holy moly! 🚀
Oh yeah!
Очень круто!
Wow! Wish I was young again.
Haha, I know the feeling!
that lay down duck jibe looked cool on the foil
Yeah, cool move!
That was a good day. Unfortunately those were extremely rare in the summer of '24.
Yes it was and yes we got lucky 🍀🤞😎
Too bad Hawaii doesn’t have a place similar like this.
Yeah, the strong wind blowing against the river current is pretty special. Hard to beat the waves we get in Hawaii though 🤙🏼
the forward and back loops on foil is crazy
The super high stalled forward loops are amazing to watch!
Would love to just learn those forward loops, any tips please?

Wear a helmet...
Where's the wind weapon from hard winds a blow'n ?
That was the original wing, except still attached to the board.
You must be old like me! 😆
These must be some of the highest Wingfoil jumps recorded so far, no?
Not sure but they were the highest jumps I ever witnessed 💪🔥
I was kiting through on a downwinder (maybe even a cameo here) and the action was definitely higher caliber than this and last year's contests - highest I've witnessed too.
Это где?
Is it me or do all their wings have bars!?

Yes that seems to be the standard now for freestyle
@@blueplanetsurf I see the FONE and Armstong wings have a full boom. Is this an add on? or a custom wing?
@@twin1q good question, I think these might be custom wings made for the riders.
This is definitely the trend. Just checked out Slingwing V5 and Vayu Auru booms - carbon, way lighter than handles let alone Duotone's alloy.
where is the duke ? or tony barabari? mike kitts ? ha ha ha
They were the inspiration!
Mountain biking.
Would love to see Chris McDonald and Cash Berzola face off against each other in freestyle and wave riding. 1 heat in each discipline would be awesome.
I think Chris has the edge in freestyle, Cash in wave riding 👍
But they'd have to skip school... 😆
Bye bye windsurfing forever! Sad, the same industry kill the sport of windsurfing in the US!
I think of it as a progression of windsurfing
