Even the cheap as Hell DOD sounds pretty good here. I figured out the trick awhile back that makes ANY envelope filter sound quite a bit better. I always place a Compressor pedal with a "Level" control directly in front of my filter. I use the level to boost the signal up and it gets quite a bit more QUACK out of the filter. Any cheap DOD 440 style pedal can really swing. Boosting the signal before the filter works extremely well on a EH Bassballs. It really ads so much more control to the pedal. This trick works well with passive basses and even with basses strung with dead flatwound strings that lack the attack to properly trigger the envelope effect.
Excellent comparison. Thank you for using a loop for consistency. I love filters but have not been able to incorporate them into live playing effectively.
good video! The Moog and the Mutron III sounded the best and most organic to me. But the Moog is too big and expensive and the Mutron is too hard to find and also too expensive. So where does that leave us? 😀
Excellent video!!! Thank you so much! Did you use some limiting or compression with the Q-Tron? Mine can’t open that much of gain/peak without add lots of distortion… and your filter seems to open much smoothier than mine. I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or if there is something wrong with my pedal…
I was not happy at all with it, so I decided to open it and then I found a trim pot inside! I mess around a little bit and now my Q-Tron is Amazing!!!!! I like it more than my MicroTron III now!!!!
Overal sound and features: Q-Tron+; Arrogance: DOD FX 25 (the clone with low pass mod, you can hear it a few second in the intro); Magic: MUTRON III; Special Mention: Meatball clone, the most versatile one.

Try using an expression pedal with the auto filter. It lets you tweak it whilst playing. Things can need a tweak in the heat of battle!
I have an MXR Bass Envelope Filter and my personal favorite the Subdecay Prometheus.
I enjoyed this a lot. I have had many envelopes, but currently have the 3leaf Wonderlove. They can all sound great!
I love my 3leaf Audio Proton: so many beautiful and useful tones!
Great review, by the way, thank you :)

This is great - I love filters, I find dialing them in to be hard - I think I need a looper to put in front and experiment like you have done
EBS pedal surprised me. Really full round sound
Have you tried the Chunk Systems Agent 00Funk? Those things are amazing!!
Not deeply but great pedal!
It's so crazy how your saddles move while you playing fingerstyle)))
Glitching video + old fender bridge = saddles mosh!

No limiter/compression.
Nothing wrong, gain settings can change, it depends on what kind of bass you use (passive, active, hot pickup, strong pre)

I personally think it was a tie between Q Tron and Moog. DOD wasn’t bad either.
That bass. Mmmmm
Thank you sir! I love envelope filters on bass this was great . Which one do you like best ?

@@paul.follower is the DOD clone you mentioned the byoc kit pedal?

Did you ever have luck with a Boss AW_3?
I'm not a big fan of AW-3, i prefer old school boss filters like TW-1 or FT-2!
I prefer the Q-Tron+
The DOD sounds like MXR EF
Awesome!
Nice demo, big fan of envelope filters here too. Out of these do you have a favourite?
