  • Amaran's newest accessories, the handheld bracket and Softbox 45 are turning my mind with what they can do!
    Well, to be fair it's not what they can do, but what YOU can do with them if you use a little engineering and out-of-the-box thinking.
    I'm featuring them in this video in a few unique and fun ways I've been using them. I'm really surprised that I enjoyed the softbox so much, but then again maybe I shouldn't be. It's lightweight and perfect for solo lighting setups.

      Yes, it's great for tiny spaces

      I recently used my 60d on several shoots and I actually checked the light to see if the fan was running. Unless your mic is going to be within about 2 feet of the mic (unless the mic is omni-directional) I believe you will be very happy with it.

    Do you still prefer the ML60Bi over it or did you change your mind with the new accessories available?

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  Рік тому

      I like both to be honest. I like the MLbi for being silent and a bit more portable on the go with the case.
      However, I like the 60x for it's studio mode for when I'm in the office. So, benefits to both, but not wrong purchase really.
      The accessories didn't make the amarans more valuable in my opinion.

  • @northcoaststudios
    @northcoaststudios Рік тому +1

    How timely for me. I purchased the 60d first in order to get maximum brightness from the form factor. The 60x is not quite as bright, and I opted to get the 60d and put a gel over it for the needs for warmer light. Now I am going to be getting a 60x as often times we don't use lights at their full brightness anyway, and it would be handy to have 2 of these lights, and even more handy if at least one had variable color temperature so that I don't have to bother with gels. I also want to get a smaller softbox (this one appears to fit the bill) that won't stress the bowens mount, as well as something that will clamp my large softbox to a light stand and just let the light hang off the back of the box (ala DSLR Video Shooter). The fire feature actually looks good! I planned to just use the mounting bracket as a handle and NP-F batteries for hand-held purposes. The available handle looks nice, but as frugal (cheap?) as I am I will just make do without it. The red light into the lens for the glow is a fantastic hack too! Thanks for that. AWESOME video as usual. Thank you for taking the time.

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  Рік тому +1

      So glad you enjoyed the video, and that you'll grab a 60x. I've surprisingly used it more than I initially thought I would. It's perfect for situations like in the woods. AND I only had it at about 40% for those woods shots, which was great! :D
      Fire feature is best with Aputure for sure, or so I've found.
      Glad you got a bunch of inspiration from this video as well. Always good to see you in the comments! :D

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  Рік тому

      Oh, it's worth noting that I've used a 90cm softbox on the amaran lights and it's never made an issue of the bowens mount for me. I've left it on for weeks at a time (as my key light UA-cam studio light) and it's been good
      So I imagine you could do a bigger diffusor if you wanted than just the 45

    • @northcoaststudios
      @northcoaststudios Рік тому +1

      @@FellowFilmmaker - That's great to hear. Just seeing one that large on the front of that small light seems unsettling, but then again, the bowens mount is just 3 ears, and what's beyond that really doesn't matter. Thanks for the info again!!

      @@FellowFilmmaker - I've seen a number of videos where the person says "I lit this scene with an Aputure LS120D MkII at 18%..." and I would think "That's an expensive way to light that..." That's why I am looking to have maybe a total of 3 of the Amaran 60 series lights. It seems most often even they are on 25% - 40%. My first Amaran light was the 100d. I used it at or near maximum brightness for a few projects, and then found it was usually set pretty low in output for a number of other projects, so that told me I could use lights without as much output, or as much cost. Sounded like a win-win for me. I love these lights.

Nice video and also showing how it looks in a more practical sense for small rooms or spaces. Now I have a question as I do all my videos sitting at my desk I don't have much space what would you recommend for a desk mount for this light as I have it mounted on my Elgato Master Mount and it seems pretty stable to any recommendations on small c stands*

    • @FellowFilmmaker
