I Don't Hate Zhiyun ... Molus G60 cheaper alternatives

- Molus G60 and X100 are the newest Zhiyun LED video lights that are very small and very hyped. In the last video, I gave an honest REAL review. In this video, I give alternative choices that are MUCH less expensive and much more versatile with types of batteries used that are great for small spaces, tiny studios, streaming computer setups and travelling. If you want small, lightweight, portable pocket-sized LED lights for photography and video, here are many options to help expand your horizons.
Be sure to watch this video I did on small pocket-sized LED lights • Small Pocket LED Light...

I really wish there were more UA-camrs willing to cut thru the hype in order to give us the info we need to know for making purchasing decisions. Keep fighting the good fight!
Yes, thanks! Love this approach.
Follow me, Im trying similar with ethical twist. Right now German with Subs but will siwtch to English soon.
@@synesthesiafilmswho r u?
@@personalchat9262I am Stephan from Germany and you?
I saw your first video on the Molus and I agree. I ordered the Ulanzi you mentioned in this video for my wife. She wanted something portable to use in the living room while doing her online school. Once she started using it, I couldn’t resist trying it out… I ordered two more for me lol😂. $35 a piece and they work great.
You need a signature line with one of these companies. You’ve got the practical production knowledge of what does and doesn’t work plus the bonus artistic sensibilities and chops that could probably create some pretty cool form factors for this category of small lights.
I appreciate when all these other UA-camrs are trying to sell things, you zig when others zag. Respect 👍🏽
The world needs balance 😊
Thank you for more in-depth comparisons with all these new lights!! You really are becoming the absolutel authority on all things travel/portable!!
I actually ordered the colbor that you reviewed. Very bright!
Thanks for elaborating a bit more on that light. Because you’re right, the average consumer doesn’t understand the difference between bicolor and single color panels in terms of brightness comparison.
I haven't missed a video all month. You and your wife are awesome. I was thinking about these lights for my next documentary. I may be going overseas and space is key. Your videos have given me so much to think about.
You’re straight to the point and I appreciate you and the existence of your channel!
After 3 years I still consider your channel on all things photography one of the best sources on the interweb. The style, energy and depth of information has been consistently good quality presentation, entertaining and educational. Markus Pix for the win. Everyday all day. - Jim
Thanks Jim! It's fun doing it. A nice distraction from real life 😉
Omg, you’re giving away the Stellas??? Please, sign me in! I’m looking for a video light, I saw your review on those, but yes, they are a bit expensive for me. Can’t believe you’re giving away! Thank you so much for this opportunity Markus🙏
Gotta keep the energy flowing 😊
Subscribed. Thank you. In a sea of influencers constantly trying to persuade you that they can speak truth regardless of sponsorships it's refreshing to have honest talk about where to spend your money. I don't want to finance all the free lights they send to some tubers.
I could see it being super useful for someone that wants to hang out super simply with like a magnet without the extra weight of the battery. Using a long usb c cable.
Appreciate all the alternatives though 💡
Markus, when I first discovered you, I subscribed more for your big personality. I didn’t expect to learn so much from you. Thanks
Thanks for all of the very specific panel suggestions
I like the honesty of this guy and the practical solutions he gives. Never in my mind crossed the idea that his lightning setup had the leds with no diffusion. True legend
Absolutely right Marcus! I use mostly one ring Neewer light. I have also cob light and led panel, but the most practical for me is my ring light.
I’ve got one too, and I use it a lot. But it leaves ring reflections in my eyes, partially on my nose. And I can’t take it out in the field.
honestly, I can't thank you enough. You truly woke me up from the hype train. You are absolutely spot on. So many better alternatives.
The 100 version comes with a battery...cannot imagine why the 60 doesn't. Nice video...as usual!
Much cleaner than the first video! Appreciate both
There is also an advantage with a battery on an extension cord. I like it. When the light is on a lightweight tripod it is less top heavy and also the weight of the battery at the bottom of the tripod keeps the tripod even better balanced. The other thing is that when someone walks with the light he does not get a lame arm because the lamp is less heavy and he has the weight of the battery hanging on his belt.
I use a small on camera led grid light with parchment paper in my closet streaming setup.
I thought i had seen all tech reviewers but thank you youtube algorithm! You struggling on pronouncing Zhiyun got me good!😂Imo you can put it inside a rig powering it with something like an anton bauer titon base and connect the light to something like a kondorblue or other magic arm. I'd gladly trade my 3godox litemons for one of your lights😜
Titon Base? That's like using a turbine generator to power a cell phone
Great video as always, generally if something is hyped on youtube it means the manufacturer have to cover costs year 1 for sending free units to 1000s of youtubers...
I am using "strip" lighting for my green screen, the cheapest lights of all which are 4' long LED shop/garage lights. They work great around the perimeter of my green screen and only cost about $50 bucks for 6 of them. But they also make the green screen look edge light, which it is the way I have them configured currently around the outer edges. But then I have a cold spot right in the middle of my green screen and that's why I was considering these lights. I also have a regular 100w key light through a 36" Godox modifier. There are videos on my channel which show my set up. Google blocks all links anymore, so I can't post them here, but my latest video shows my exact work space. I also have a lighting video which shows the custom lights I made and everything I'm currently using.
But it's the cold spot in the middle of my screen that I want to fill with more light, and small but portable is a must because of my very limited space. Cheers 🍻
Layla's love of life is contagious. She's SO PRECIOUS!!! ❤❤❤
Thank you for your honest thoughts about this. Almost bought these
Molus lights are great if one needs to travel with carry-on only and film nicely lit talking heads anywhere - but not necessarily with unavailable wall power. My line of work quite so often. So I'm pondering on getting them.
Did you end up getting some? I'm going on a tour with an artist in 5 different countries and need a very portable light to shoot talking heads but this video made me reconsider paying 200 to almost 500€ for one of these new Zhiyun lights (60 or 100 one).
I despise dangling anything from a lightstand as well, I loved every point in your rant! I'm a photographer and yeah, they sure make it ridiculous to find / compare continuous lights lol
It's weird that it cost so much in US, i'm currently living in China, and obviously things cheaper here than in US, but... i got G60 for like 115$. In this price point is pretty hard to compete with that.
fully understand your issues with this light. Its only cute and small, thats all
cant find any reviews on the NEEWER MS60C
IT IS BY FAR MY FAVORITE LIGHT OF ALL TIME. IT IS COMPLETELY UNDERRATED AND THERE ARE NO REVIEWS BY ANYONE ANYWHERE.
ITS A FULL RGBW small LIGHT THAT CAN BE POWERED BY V MOUNT. PLEASE REVIEW IT FOR THE MASSES
Thank you for this video, I was looking for alternatives for zhiyun's light then ur video popped up.
Markus is a talking encyclopedia. He is like the Niagara Falls of information…on all his videos. ❤️💡❤️
You have a molus on your upper sphincter 😂
Markus, I totally understand that you don’t like separate power boxes and fuzzy wiring. But there may be one reason when it’s beneficial: When you don’t want the additional weight of the power box (or battery or whatsoever) at the top of the light stand. You can then attach it to the bottom and this may even help to stabilize the stand. What do you think?
hahaha that little bit of weight isn't going to stop a stand from falling over
@@MarkusPixI think it's time for a Markus Tip Test! (that's a double entendre, and not a dirty one)
I use a 220w V-mount as a ballast/infinite power source at live events and it does help, but that weighs more than Markus's entire full frame travel kit.
Your suggestion Mr. Markus about the changing the Branding/Logo/Name of an device because the consumers will get confused with how it's 'named or worded', has validity. Part of the problem is that the global suppliers (98% whom are Asian), already are challenged with translating 'anything' into English. For example, read any instructions (if there are any in the first place) has wording that confuses one more so than instruct us on how to use. I feel your frustration though with your rant.
Funny- even as close as reading an owner's manual from England here in the States is funny. My Lotus turbo Esprit manual said "Whilst negotiating a ford..." Over here "Ford" is a type of car. Nobody would know it was talking about driving across a creek. It's even weirder when you think "who drives a pavement-scraping exotic car across a riverbed?
Markus, I sure wish you would give a complete list of products in the description. You are holding up many items of interest, some of which I might want to buy, but I don't know what they are called or the make/model numbers! If you linked to them, you could make some money, so I'm surprised that you haven't done this. For example, around 3:43, you hold up two wide (long?) panel LED lights and never give their names! I have been unable to find these in the internet marketplace.
Great information! Thank you Marcus!
Awesome video! Most people got these for review for feee hence most of the videos we got.
Get yourself a ZGCINE ZG-H90 or a COLBOR PG99 battery grip, so that you can use the battery grip as an integrated handle for the lights.
I hope you get the Smallrig RC 60 to compare with all these other lights.
I still like the wellmaking. It's 80w and doesn't require a bulky reflector
It's great for single man teams who do not have a car
I'd understand Markus.. don't worry
You are the best bro!!!🤘🏻🔥
dude you really inspired me. I make music my name is dex. thank you for being you fam im hooked on the advice and true passion
Quality as usual. Would love one of those lights but im an Irishman in Dubai so no go.
Do they allow Scotts in Dubai to have them?
@@MarkusPix Too many Sweaties here. The Irish are the Crème
Markus, what wireless Strobe/Flash light would you recomend to do exterior automotive photography? At the moment I was looking at the Godox AD300Pro, maybe u know it or any alternatives?
Anything between 200-600
Thanks for the NEEWER contact. Just put my list together. On Amazon, I read all the specs. And a list. Thank-you.
"You have a molus on your upper sphincter...." Man that killed me.
Just came across this video after I bought mine, but only paid $85 for it. I wouldn’t have paid the full price definitely!
,Great Video, Troy Bolton !
Wow thanks!
To power feed that light you can use one if your V-mount batteries ( with USB output)+ plate to attach you the stand + the USB cable.
Hi Marcus, have you seen the new Ulanzi LT028? Its 80 bucks, similar brightness, and built in battery. Will love to see your take on it!
Yes they are paying attention, but it is only 40w. For that wattage, I still prefer the Zhiyun Fiveray M40 which is flat and more portable ua-cam.com/video/71oIfvgOfJ0/v-deo.html
@@MarkusPix Thank you Markus! I am also obsessed with a lightweight backpack-size kit, and your videos are perfect advice for me.
I love panel lights, they work great. And if you want a more directional light, use a grid, and move it closer to subject. I want to sell all my lights with too many cords, it seriously annoys me. I'm just happy that companies are innovating to make them smaller. However, yea forget proprietary batteries. Come on, lower these prices.
More good stuff!!! Thanks!!!
I enjoy the Markus rants. #markusrants
The powerbank is probably around 4 to 6x the capacity of that single npf battery, so if you need it to run for a long time it is actually a better solution.
Yes and if I use a truck battery, I can run it until tomorrow lol. Kinda defeats of the purpose of a tiny lightweight light though
It would have been good to compare it to the Godox 60W studio light for the light amount they produce. That also only has 60W written on it.
I don't think the main use the Zhiyun lights would be the travelers lighting. In fact you are the only video maker that I see using light when outside on a trip. And it's visible, therefore kinda unnatural. The small lights are mostly useful in small studios where the huge stands necessary for heavy lamps just become a hassle. Counterbalances and what not. It's much easier to setup these plus the already available Bowen type modifiers can be used.
what is the brand and name of the led long strip light you said cost $150? I don't see it in the product panel
Yay!
Shout out Sir Markus from Philippines
Wow that's a loud shout for me to hear it all the way out here 😄
Marcus, good morning, the LED lamp asks at minute 6:18, what model is it???
or have you already made a video of that model to search for it on you tube, greetings from Tijuana B.C. Mexico
small is beautiful and in this case very handy. i photograph weddings but i am a beginner in these matters. something like this would be very useful for me. regards and besides great video as always
Yes of course, I too am looking for the smallest, brightest, most portable lights possible, but external batteries and cords make it annoying. If you want REALLY small and even brighter, the Stella Reflex is even smaller ua-cam.com/video/k3jlWb87i54/v-deo.html but it also needs external dangly cords and batteries. That's why I like the Wellmaking which has the battery physically attached.
Still like the Zhiyun..... I have it and I don't hate. I even bought it on pre-order so was way cheaper than the current price.....
Hey man, since you own one, I wonder if you can help me out. I will TRY not to write a book here!
I need to get better with lighting. I aim towards a cinematic/film aesthetic and lighting is currently my achilles heel. I'm also going to be travelling soon and doing a lengthy interview in a relatively confined space. Calmly and quietly looking at this and other alternatives to see if it might be worth me picking one up to experiment with and to take for the interview project. Something that can be used as is, with a simple diffusor, with a softbox. Do you think this one is worth grabbing? Or would I be just as well served by a Colbor (for example)?
The small size of this really appeals as it would go into a suitcase. But at the same time, if it's not adaptable enough (even for experimentation) then I should look elsewhere.....
Thank You!
Do we know what the CRI or SSI values are on those cheaper lights you mentioned? I know the Molus series performs well for their size/power. Curious how Neewer holds up...
CRI ≥ 96 TLCI ≥ 97 find more here: zhiyun-website-shenzhen.oss-cn-shenzhen.aliyuncs.com/instruction/20230209/1675931724125-2b7as8Fx.pdf
what do you think about another alternative. ulanzi 40 W?
40w is not very bright
What is the long panel led that u show on 3:30 cant find the name. I need 3 of them. Thanx markus
They dont make it anymore
@@MarkusPix :( did u see the "new" smallrig 60watts led with internal battery and GVM 40 watts rgb led with battery?
ua-cam.com/video/NVYCnqFiqdA/v-deo.html
Ohhh man!!! you are damn right!!! Thank you so much!)
Thanks for this
this feels like my dad telling me, NO WE HAVE MC DONALDS AT HOME!
great point!
It’s on sale for like $85 now is it worth it now?
Markus what do u think of the Smallrig 60b?
Its fine but doesnt take standard Bowens mount, it has its own small sized mount 😁
@@MarkusPix 😩 I need something build in battery small and nice amazing if is like 100w, WE thanks for you answer pal 🙌🏻
Thanks
Great Video!!
Thank you for your review. Very useful!
Have you tried connecting a 26V v-mount battery to Zhiyun X100 or G60 with a d-tap?
is it work?
I have tried 16.8 v-mount battery with d-tap but it doesn't work
I have wondered if it would be possible to use a 26v battery, but I don't have one yet
Haha a 500 dollar battery to power a 200 dollar light
@@MarkusPix I found a 380Wh 26w v-mount battery online for around $155, that can be used with an Aputure F22C 200w LED.
I don't know if it can be used with X100, the voltage is always higher.
In addition, can you compare the X100 with the stella pro reflex s connected to a 100w pd power bank, both lights are 100w, I don’t know which is brighter when using a direct light , an umbrella/softbox
I am already using wellmaking 60w and 80w led, but sometimes I still feel that it is not enough, I hope to buy a led that is at least twice as bright as wellmaking
The Stella is definitely brighter than the X100- over 2 stops.
How about the 100x?
So you're saying it could be a great paper weight?
not heavy enough 😄
To light a large ish (14ft x 8ft) space for video where the subjects move around, what would you recommend? Would those panels work?
That's what I use ua-cam.com/video/QoClhx6QG4A/v-deo.html
The link for the light at 3m20s please?
You cover things no one else does. Amazing content.
New drinking…you take a shot every time you hear dangly and powerful. 😂
It can be quite frustrating having to deal with dangly things all the time. Having to secure them out of sight, making sure they don't get in the way. 😉
@@MarkusPix I bet. 👍
So the x100 is good?
I might be a crack pot but I actually quite like the fact that it can run off usb-c batteries. They are far cheaper and I have a bunch of them already.
I do think it should have the option of running off a modular battery though...
I have the weebil gimbal by them but I agree that the light doesn’t make much sense
Weebils wobble but they don't fall down 😄

Super bro
"Does it come in black?" ~ Bruce Wayne (to Lucius Fox)
I bought the Zhiyun M40 and it has better value for half the price. The no-battery is a real killer.
Can i buy the CORESWX TORCHLED BOLT 300 off you please ?
I love how you you get annoyed with things that don’t make sense.
I don't know if anyone can answer this. if I put together 2 leds with 1000 lux at one meter. the result is 2000lux at one meter?
You'd think it would be, but it's not
@@MarkusPix how can i calculate this? i already bought many cheap lights expecting that
The most dependable method is a light meter. If you don't have one, use your camera's exposure meter
i just tested and yes.
Great!!!!!!!!
❤Just awesome
molus x100 with the battery though is damn smart
Not really when it only last 30 mins on full brightness and takes 2 hours to charge! If you do real photography sessions or record, 30 mins will never be enough time!
@@Samiam-mu5ln Usually one wouldn't be running it on full power that often. And maybe one can also have a spare battery or two?
@@adamadamis keep in mind that the accessories such as the battery grip and modifiers are not sold separately (at least as of right now) so if you plan on getting another battery grip, you will have to buy a whole other unit and the kit that has the battery is $349 USD which is still heavily overpriced for light output! It's honestly a very tough purchase realistically when there are other lights that output more and cost less 😬
@@Samiam-mu5ln I'm sure you'll soon be able to buy batteries separately. And everything Molus will probably also become a bit cheaper. That said, I'm not a fan of proprietary batteries, and the particular design doesn't match the X100 shape or style at all.
Lol the NP battery is the first thing I dislike, too chunky and doesn't last long like V mount.
i wish giveaway will open to more countries...
ZV-E1 wadda u think? :)
I need an EVF for outside in bright sun.
