Hey Heather, I love your succinct and information packed videos. Your presenting and approachable style makes it so much enjoyable to learn about filmmaking. Keep up the great work!
The stream deck is the best "gadget" I had in 30 years of buying computer stuff. When I bought I thought it's just gonna sit on the desk to change volume but it's so much more than that. I bought the XL version but that's not necessary knowing you can have a hierarchy of folders. You can customize your PC tweaking routines (overclocking, memory control, sensors monitoring), you can add all bunch of Adobe shortcuts (sets downloadable online), you can control your Nvidia Shadowplay recordings, use it for coding snippets or mailing texts that you repeat a lot, you can control your lighting... Best thing is you can make profiles so the stream deck layout changes depending on what you're doing, you can program behaviors for it, change icons (static or animated)... Possibilities are endless.
@@FellowFilmmaker The only downside is it have to be connected to a PC so the software runs it. I know we have our phones in pockets and Elgato have a stream deck app that emulates the true deck but if the next gen have connectivity capabilities, WiFi and Bluetooth, it would be awesome. As soon as no PC is connected to it the deck would switch to a mobile profile that removes any PC related thing (software shortcuts and PC stuff). You just connect it to a USB charger and there you go, a fully independent "smart house" switch deck that you can add things to via your phone. I don't know you could control music, lights, heating system, fridge, stepmom lol who knows, only limit is imagination.
Glad you like it so much! :D That one in particular was from their anniversary last year, so it costs a TON now, but you can find it here: amzn.to/3CMz5S3 If you are ok with their other versions, then here they are as well: amzn.to/3RV8B4R
Love your list! Ahh, so much gear, so little time. Well, since our "conversations" about your gear setups, I've gotten started. I quickly blew your $ estimate out of the water but I'm happy about my new a7IV (er, for the hybrid-ness, natcherly- interestingly the same price as your BM6K Pro 😁) , 11-20mm lens, GVM 1000D LED lights x 3, and so many rig parts you wouldn't believe. This week I downloaded DR17 for my PC. Look out, film world, here I come! Fun, and thanks for your many kindly suggestions, although I had to deviate a time or two. Let's see... now I just need a reason for all this. Nah, not really. 🤣
The number one thing that has improved my narrative film work is realizing that the main or key light lighting up the talent is on the OPPOSITE SIDE of the talent from the camera. It seems like it is only once someone points this out that we realize this is how narrative films are made, and is why many independent films don't seem to have the "right look" compared to Hollywood films. Now that you've heard this, start paying attention to the films you watch, and notice that the talent is primarily lit from the side of their face that is OPPOSITE from the side the camera is on. Who woulda thunk it?? So important though.
We picked up 2 sets of the Rode Go II and Lavs II. I am more than happy with those. We just bought a GH6 for our main camera and going to use our GH5 as 2nd camera.
I like double since it's pretty straight forward. But booklighting is still it's own thing and can have a softer appeal in some cases. There's many ways to do it. I recently invested in a diffusion gell/roll that is really great with a softbox: amzn.to/3F21S4G It's amazing on super reflective surfaces in product video shooting.
@@FellowFilmmaker seems good! Judging by eye it’s somewhat like a 216 diffusion so it’s pretty thick and a roll allows you to clamp it on an extension arm an use it like a big frame, great!
@@FellowFilmmaker btw you may like a sheet of bleached muslin if you’re into really thick diffusion - it’s not expensive if you buy it from textile shops and not from pro lighting shops, it’s quite dense and great in diffusing/bouncing a light
Love your videos. Great stuff and great info, always. Impressed that you have all your stuff "preset" for your video making. I have a suggestion to make that better, though..... It's seems that you have no clue where your "card" is coming in when you make a reference to a video "...click here to see that video..." and you just throw both hands up and point to both corners above you. The card always comes in on your left side...the side with the blue background (not with the tree and light)....only point to that side. Put a little piece of tape on your monitor or a card on the wall (if you need) so you know where you need to point while filming and you can point to the incoming card, and not just throw your hands up into the air. You know your stuff; show that you know where your card is, too, and your videos will be even more professional.
Haha, yeah I know I get focused on what Im saying and thinking of where its going and all that goes into recording a video I typically blank in the moment of gesturing. 😁
@@FellowFilmmaker I understand. I have the same problem and it took me a long time to figure out and remember where I needed to point, as well as managing that area in the original camera framing. I figured out cards are always over my left shoulder, but I did have to put "reminders" for a while before I remembered consistently and didn't need them. Keep up the awesome work :)
Comprehensive, practical, and polished. Tremendously useful video! Btw, do you have any experience with the matte screen protectors for Smallhd Focus/Indie 7? The glare is more pronounced than it is on my (much less bright) 502 with the acrylic. TIA
Just to chime up for people who think 4k is important for zoom calls and such : it's not, because a lot of people's internet connection sucks. So they just have a 720p feedback. Calls in 1080p is fine, it's the lighting and depth of field that makes it look good even on crappy connections.
Cool video! I like your video style, from lighting setup to build in effects and its cool to listen to you, because you present the informations clear, not too long and very sympathy! Keep on!👍🏻😊

Easiest way is the mist filter first and then pushing blues into shadows and highlights while pushing a smidge of orange into the highlights. I sometimes push the mid-tones a bit to get a more filmic look. Hope that helps
Is your keyboard issue with a the Logitech MX keys? Same thing has happened with mine. After multiple YT recommendations I went with the MX keys and MX3 mouse combo and though I love the feel and look of the keyboard, in terms of functionality, it's been frustrating. None of my F keys to squat now and Logitech support is useless. They do not care about Mac users (which is weird considering they make Mac specific products. And don't even get me started on their webcam software Logi Capture which almost 2yrs in STILL will not work with Apple silicon! Honestly, next time I upgrade I'll be avoiding Logitech and taking my business elsewhere.
Actually I have a keyboard from Satechi. It used to work fine but after a year or so the volume buttons sporadically stop working. Not sure why at all. But sorry to hear you've had similar issues, I know how frustrating it can be
