Omg this is why i decided to go into the candle business!! I didnt realize there was a name behind the idea "nostalgia". Ive been battling depression and i know a lot of other people struggle with it too and i create custom scents that are specifically tied to that persons happy place. I struggle with product descriptions as well and find it easier to put a personal story that surround that particular scent.

Honestly when we feel connected and passionate about the niche/message/branding behind our products then it makes it so much easier to not only find our target market, but also talk and share about our products! ❤️

@@MemoryBoxCandleCo i completely agree about the passion and connection with the products. As a person who sucks at sales, having passion itself is a great sales tool to have.
I started for the same reason and a lot of anxiety and panic attacks. Life has been nothing short of panic mode for the last few years for me. Candles just fell into my lap with UA-cam and channels like Memory Box Candle Co. So naturally, I want all of my products to help with that area. It's a strange relief in knowing I'm not alone here; but at the same time, I hope things get way better for anyone in this position. My business seems to be the only thing I'm doing right lately. 😟
This is extremely helpful, Erica. I really do need to narrow down my niche. I'm guilty of that mindset that everyone will love my candles. 🤭
I did a customer avatar exercise. It really helped. I wrote small profiles for the people that are my ideal customers. I gave them names, kids, salary, education, details are the key. Once you do that, it will help a ton.

I just got Into the real estate business and I am doing the same thing. I love that you brought that up 💙 yes. Clean and soft scents
This is pretty much how I spent the last 6 months figuring out branding and smells. I took something I have been passionate about for, well as long as I can remember, but I fear I may be wrong niching. That is the risk I guess.

Erica, have you ever thought in becoming an online consultant. I bet we would keep you very busy. Perhaps 30 minutes. Just putting it out there.
I love your thoughts and approach here. My nieche is focused specifically, toward helping with anxiety. So anything uplifting, or relaxing in both design and scent. I keep my mind open to requests and suggestions and really appreciate your input here as well.

I don’t know if what you would call my niche, but my candles are based off of books, videos games, & movies. For example this fall I have a poison apple candle that is reminiscent of the evil queen making the apple for Snow White to eat. My niche seems to be working I just launched and have sold 20 candles and have repeat customers already, also I have 15 orders that I currently need to make.

Great Video, I’m doing a homebody line what scent do think I should start with?
I wanted to know because the holidays are coming, do you need to follow the flow and make holiday candles? Because I feel like I can’t find my niche or I can’t start because of the autumn and Christmas season. I know I can do what I want but will I lose sales if I skip it. Thank you!
There is a market for everything, even the market of people who hate holiday candles 😂 This is a main reason why I keep my nostalgia (main) candle line available all year long because they appeal to most people. During the holiday season people buy gifts for others and not everyone likes holiday scented candles. May I ask the reason why you don't want to offer holiday scents? Or do you just feel rushed or like you're not ready for the season yet this year?
I've went back and forth as well trying to figure out if I should have holiday scents along with my signature scents. I finally decided to launch with out them, just to keep things manageable for me in my first year. 😌

Hmm this one would be fun! You could do all different types of coffee scents, as well as maybe “donut” scents. I would also maybe do some tea scents like matcha, chai, things like that!
But what are some examples of who are we selling to ? How do we figure that out lol
Hi Erica. I hear what you are saying, but I am still not understanding how knowing about the person will tell you about the scent. For example Let’s say we are selling to single females over 30 with cats that live in the city. I still can’t figure out which scents these would be.
The less specific a niche the harder this would be to figure out what scents to offer because of course people have all different preferences in scents, so I know what you mean. It’s best to research your target market, try to find Facebook groups, Reddit forums or any places online that would have people from your target market that you could do your research on or even ask them.
For your example I would offer coffee, floral, beachy, vanilla and mimosa or wine scent options. You could also do “sayings” candles that pertain to single females over 30 with cats.
There’s always the possibility of offering more general scents, like the ones listed in this video and then see which ones sells the most and discontinue the ones that don’t. There’s definitely some research and trial and error that goes into this 🤍

@@MemoryBoxCandleCo the ones I work with give promotional gifts like coffee mugs etc so candles could easily fall into that arena. Some lenders give clients an Closing gift and lenders give realtors gifts to thank them for referrals
