To raise your minimum order value try having free shipping over $50 or larger amount on your website. When selling in-person offer discounts when purchasing multiples of an item. For example, my candles sell for $20 each. If they buy two candles they get them for $36, and three candles are $50. This is a maximum 15% discount and has worked much better for me than simply saying "15% off." I think it's because people can't do the math to know what they're saving, but having the pricing tiers written out on my sign catches their interest and I find them really trying to decide on a second scent to purchase.

Exactly! When I started my vegan cake business, I always offer discount to customer especially family members and their fds, also give out free cake to food blogger.( don't do it!) uh!! I have no confident with my price back in the days. Which gave me a hard time.

I would love an updated price video, I make small batches of candles, soaps, etc, and if I factored in fair market labor costs, I feel like no one would buy anything (ex: a single bar of soap would be like $12-14). I'm working on setting up my workspace to be able to store more materials so that I can buy in bigger bulk to get the cost of my materials down some (but with inflation it's still crazy compared to pre-covid). So that would definitely be helpful

I can’t imagine a candle bringing me $100 in value. I also own 0 brand names shoes, purses or clothes. I am looking for a hobby and have been watching your videos and love your transparency. I just ordered some supplies to make wax melts for Mothers Day baskets for the mothers in my life. The wicks sounded way too difficult for a hobby. I tried baking and while I enjoy it, I am not very good at the decorations. I can do a mean rosette now but that’s about it and it’s a circle and the tip does the rest

I absolutely love this video, pointing out mistakes that you could have done differently, learning from them and helping others in the process. Keep up the good work Erica, Remember what I always say....." It's not a mistake if you learn from it" 🥰

Hey Erica. Just chiming in here again as I've found a way to help with my personal inventory. Idk how big your apartment is, but I am separating my inventory into different sections.
    Example:
    Section 1: In person sales
    Section 2: online website
    Section 3: Etsy
    and so on.
I do this with my finances as well, but with different bank accounts.
    Checking 1: Weekly spending
Checking 2: Bills (budgeted to highest ever paid on each bill to keep it predictable)
Checking 3: Credit card fund for payments that take up to 5 business days.
    Checking 4: investment transfers
    Checking 5: savings.
    Or business banking example
Checking 1: deposits/withdrawal to other accounts
Checking 2: monthly/ annually fees ie LLC renewal, trademark renewal, website fees, insurance, etc.
    Checking 3: Sales tax
    Etc.
This helps me in a number of ways on the side of finance and I am configuring it to the physical products area as well. This way, when something sells out for a sector, you can keep moving in another sector while placing supply orders.
It's how I'm solving my recent supply issue and hope it helps.
I know I said I'd post a video over the weekend, but got really busy. I have the next 2 days available to record/ edit as well as restock. Hope to see you there and hope it helps. 🙂
This was another thoughtful video and I know I need to make goals, but currently it's just trying to get that website up and the first video posted. Thanks for this.

As a rule of thumb on terms of pricing products I take the cost of goods and multiply it by 1.9 to accommodate for things like labor, overhead costs and profits Then I round up to the nearest currency amount. So if a candle costs me 7 to make I charge 15 . Also if you're having raw materials shipped to you. Include shipping and taxes in the cost of goods at 1st I didn't.1 I was selling at a 1dollar loss.

I used to makes planner stickers, and the amount of people doing sales, individual or group all the time was insane. You just know one is about to go so why buy at full price ?
If you discount your product too often then it's not worth the full price in the customer's mind.
Knowing when to runs sales and how and how much is tricky but definitely worth it.
Then there are brands (luxury for instance) who never discount their products. They don't necessarily sell less.
    It's all about marketing.

So, I really don't know what to do with my prices. My candles are 6 oz and I price them at 16$ and I wonder if it's enough. I think they're worth more, but people shit on prices of small businesses so much. But then I see other people selling for 60$ and people buy those, so... idk. Help me decide!

  • @paulross2979

I don't look at those 4 as mistakes.
They are part of the process of getting a business to the point where you want it to get to.
Discounts to gain customer base followings. Look at your suppliers. They offer you a discount to get you to order more for less.
Pricing to find out your growth point.
Business planning is the process during the hobby phase and the business phase. You've tried a few niche to get where your at.
Keep learning and enjoy the process.
Right now your monetized and hopefully making residual from that.

    • @MemoryBoxCandleCo
      @MemoryBoxCandleCo  Рік тому

Yes I agree! I should have been more specific that I don’t mind giving out discounts, but I found myself creating so many discounts that I would forget which discounts I had going on at the same time 😅

Definitely made the saaame mistake with the discounts and now I get very few sales unless I’m running a sale.. 😅 Thankfully that has started to switch a bit with markets etc that’s brought lots of new customers who haven’t been here to see me constantly running sales in the past. It’s kinda been a struggle to ween my main repeat customers off of only buying when I have a sale though. 😅🫣
