    It is good an economist writes about Indian history. We lacked our own historians. That is one of the reasons we did not know about us and remained slave to foreigners. We, Indians, fed by western historians who had no emotional bond with India and wrote the history which they felt right(?). Many things are ignored about India. Here Sanyal talks about history also from the point of view of geographic, science etc. We need more historians to go to the truth about India.

    A tree can only grow as high as its roots are deep. India has suffered a lost and distortion of its history. It is time to invest in discovery of the past so as to plot a true line of future of Indian civilisation.

      Because these days anyone that doesn’t toe the leftist establishment line as laid down by socialist/communist Chamchas like irfan habib and Romila Thapar et al has to be a Sanghi. They feel that instead of responding to the substance of any critisism it’s just easier to call someone a sanghi and close the debate. I’m glad that being a sanghi is no longer considered such a taboo thing.

    Khliji’s sack of Chittor and the ensuing self-immolation of all the women and children is not comparable to the Madurai Nayak - Thanjavur Nayak incident. In the case of the latter it is solely based on matrimony etc. in the case of the former it was a case of religious extremism perpetrated by the invader and the resulting honor death of the women. There have been several instances of the invader raping women and beheading men in the name of his God. Bringing up a one-off incident in Tamil Nadu and pointing out that “see something similar has happened even within Hindus “ is the type of secular, living in denial mindset we need to come out of. We need more historians like Sanjeev Sanyal.

    I am smelling a lot of Dravidian theorists/supremacists in the crowd.
    The crowd is filled with people bent on propagating their own preconceived ideas based on propaganda rather than exploring new ideas.
    Example : Ramasethu question, RSS ??? etc.
    The equating of Tanjavur Madurai war to the mass rape , genocide and conversions and slaving by Islamic marauders using religion as an excuse is pathetic. There is simply no parallel.

    16:00 Marthanda Varma's main General was an European- De Lannoy who switched sides after the Battle of Colachel. European powers were using Indian rulers as pawns in their trade wars.
    To equate a trading company like Dutch East India Company with a Sovereign State is either profound ignorance or twisting facts. Winning a game of Basketball against an American school team is not same as winning against the American Olympic team .
    Also a battle is not a war.
    Japan and Russia were Sovereign powers who fought a full fledged war with Imperial Armies in 1905.
    Also, to postulate that Indians would be speaking Dutch but for Marthanda Varma may sound arresting, but betrays total lack of the history of India at that time.
    Valourlarizing the Marathas is surprising. Marathas were known for their raiding bands and creating anarchy, in the South, and were much hated. Marathas contributed in no small measure for the weakening of the post - Vijayanagar local chieftains.
    The hypothesis that the British wrested the power not from the Mughals is avoiding the fact that a large proportion of India was ruled by Muslims , not to speak of Ranjit Singh.

    Prior to a Indian converting from Hinduism to something else, one is conditioned to accept that Indians are useles and that they were always trash. So you will always get demeaning questions and snide remarks. Any Indian who is proud of his heritage gets his identity questioned .
    Does every proud Hindu have to be pigeonholed as a BJP person.
    Frustration of certain communities not being able to identify themselves with our glorious history hurts their ego to no limit !
    Btw my role model is Dr Abdul Kalam. Next comes Mr Narasimha Rao.

    Were all Hindu ancient texts originally in a Dravidian language or Indus Valley language and later changed into Sanskrit?

    • @guharup
      @guharup 3 роки тому

      no. South India possibly didn't have bronze age. Several of these texts are clearly bronze age.

    • @susantadeb7666
      @susantadeb7666 3 роки тому +1

      guharup Don’t quite understand you. If the Hindu texts were of Bronze Age please state which area of India they were formed. Also state time period in which they were done.

    • @guharup
      @guharup 3 роки тому

      @@susantadeb7666 sure I will when I get time. Meanwhile investigate bit yourself. Bronze age is not a very perplexing history. It was a global phenomenon. Lots of content available. Also bronze age isnt limited to a state or a region. Its a way of life built around the use of bronze. This was spread from spain to china until iron took over. Features of globally identified bronze age life can be tracked and identified as indicators of a bronze age civilization. Rig veda mentions bronze but not iron but the later vedas do. Therefore rig veda was composed by a bronze age civilization, most likely post indus valley somewhere in northern india. There is no evidence yet of a bronze age civilization in south india. . But the first iron age evidence is in south india. Which is interesting for the later vedas. Thanks for your curiosity.

    You mention Nehruvian and Marxist bias and conveniently forget right-wing biases in text books. Sanjeev - all that intellect if associated only with only a particular party (like the Marxist historians) does not remain neutral i.e. it becomes biased / blind. and your personal reputation gets tarnished.
