Very sweet to see Bob Lilly give Howley's statue a kiss.
I'm a Tom Landry-era Dallas Cowboys fan, and I have been watching the NFL since the late 1950s,
watching the games on TV with my Dad and uncles, and even
getting to go to the Cotton Bowl on occasion.
When I got a little older, I started watching the Cowboys in earnest
by the '63 season.
Don Meredith was my very first sports hero. He was my favorite player on offense, and Chuck Howley was my favorite defensive player.
I watched practically every play during Howley's long Cowboy career.
Like all Cowboys fans, I'm elated that Chuck has finally been inducted into the HOF.
But at the same time, I'm PO'd that it's taken 45 damn years for this great legend to finally be enshrined.
Thanks to the people
that were instrumental in getting this done....Roger Staubach, Bob Lilly, John McClain, and everyone else that was involved. I'm sure there were others.
Thank you Jerry Jones and Drew Pearson for being there at the ceremonies.
As everyone knows, there are more than several Cowboy players from the past that most definitely should have already been inducted into the Hall, as well as many other players throughout the league.
The NFL needs to wake up regarding the selection process of it's player's HOF inductees. They should not have to wait until they are dead, or so old and sickly to be enshrined.
Where are you, Roger Goodell? You are there at every draft.... hugging, laughing, and camera-mugging like some clown with all of the draftees.... why aren't you available for the veterans?
CONGRATULATIONS!

CHUCK HOWLEY
God bless our pro football heroes from a by-gone era 🏈
It's unfortunate Chuck couldn't be there in Canton. But his son gave a really great speech. I too will say what everyone else said. Hello Chuck!!
I’m his granddaughter 🥰.
He went to the Frisco Star to celebrate and watch my dad give his speech. He perked up when everyone said hi.
Honestly, I don’t think he would’ve been in the HoF without his devoted fans so thank you very much for the support and keeping his name alive❤️🏈
I couldn’t hold back tears. It shouldn’t have taken this long. To his teammates still got his back is also the reason for my tears. These men gave so much to the game and didn’t get nowhere near the compensation players do now. Only thing I can say more is, “Hello Chuck!”
About Dang Time Mr. Chuck Howley! You’d fit in well with the LB group this year and teach them a lot.
He should have been inducted decades ago, and Lee Roy Jordan as well. Two of the best pass coverage linebackers ever.
Harvey Martin and Ed Jones also
I’d be glad to see it, but I don’t know if it will happen, except perhaps via the route Howley took. Jones had a long, productive and distinguished career, but not a very flashy one. Martin was one of the greatest pass rushers in league history (23 sacks in 14 games in 1977, which the league refuses to recognize), but he may not have played long enough. The fact that he passed away long ago also doesn’t help
Congratulations Chuck!! From Cowboy Nation, one of the largest families on Earth.
Another example of the Hall of Fame selection committee failing to do its job in a timely manner so the honoree could be there to receive induction personally.
Real shame he was not here. Well deserved honor.
He's the very reason I became a Cowboy fan. Great linebacker had a nose for the ball coach Landry always said. 👏
He had a nose for the ball coach?!
It shouldn’t have taken this long.
Amen
The NFL needs to do a better job of enshrining people before its too late.
💯💯💯
@@timglazner1519totally agree it’s a shame these players deserve their shine
I feel two more of these old Cowboys need to be in . Lee Roy Jordon and Cornell Green.
#54 the 🐐.. Chuck was a real LB !!!
Sincere and Profound Congratulations to Chuck Howley. Shame on the Hall of Fame committee for failing to properly induct this man as the first ballot Hall of Famer he truly is. Fifty years, what a joke...
Long overdue. Congrats Mr. Howley !
Hes the only player to win super bowl mvp on a losing team.
He has one honor that could be hard to repeat.
Chuck Howley of the Cowboys is the only Super Bowl MVP from a losing team.
No doubt, another WVU great - the logo Mr. Jerry West, is the only NBA player to win a finals MVP as member of the losing team.
Only player to win Super Bowl MVP for a losing team, and one of the cornerstones of the original Dallas Cowboys.
I m an impartial Packer fan. I guestion these HOF committees. How does a 5 time 1st team All Pro have to wait so long?
Cowboys bias. I know you probably think it's a myth, but check the numbers. Same bias exists against the Raiders.
@@mojoschmee9320 I too became a Raiders fan in 1974. Way too long for Stabler and Branch to get in. Compare Branch's numbers to Lynn Swann. It s a joke.
Growing up in Warwood, Chuck Howley has been a legend for years in my life. So glad to see him finally get his spot
I married a Warwood girl 47 years ago and I was the USAF Recruiter in Wheeling for a while in the 80's. This should have happened 30 years or more ago. But at least it did happen. We live in DFW now and have since I retired from the USAF 30 years ago. So Chucks name has been in our orbit all along.
Congratulations Well Deserved
West Virginia legend
He in football and Jerry West in basketball.
I'm proud to say that as a West Virginian we have to linebackers that played at West Virginia university in the HOF. #54 Chuck Howley on the left side, #70 Sam Huff in the middle and hopefully #91 Darrell Talley on the right. Maybe it will happen one day for Darrell.
Of all those older players of that era, Bob Lilly looks the best. Still in relatively good health and possesses his mental faculties. It's sad to hear that some of the players have passed on and some of the others are in physical and mental decline. I guess it happens to all of us eventually.
I truly believe if he was a Pittsburgh Steeler or a 49er he would have been in the HOF a long time ago, but since he was a Cowboy they made him wait. Truth hurts.
I have been a great admirer of Chuck Howley since my youth. He is my favorite all time Cowboy. I wore his number and consider 54 my favorite lucky number. I have a throw back Howley Jersey I wear on football Sunday's. Even after his career was over I followed his dry cleaning business and continued to admire his business acumen. I was thrilled to hear his is now enshrined as a hall of famer, he has been my hall of famer my entire life. Congratulations Chuck!!! Thank you for all of the inspiration sir.
When I lived in Dallas, I used to see his laundry vans driving on their routes.
Chuck is my first pick at linebacker, as far as my All-time Cowboy position players list.
Class guy
Should've been enshrined 40yrs ago.
I sincerely hope the ghosts of Bob Hayes and Chuck Howley (when his time comes) haunts the members and descendants of the Hall of Fame committee forevermore.
@@mojoschmee9320 The committee should be made up of former players and coaches...NO ONE ELSE.

I TOTALLY agree 👍
No he should have been elected 45 years ago the first year eligible to be selected. His numbers are much better than some of the newer members. About all they look at now is sacks. Howley was one of the very best ever at LB.
Mr. Howley hasn't passed away yet. He was unable to travel to Canton for induction unfortunately. He is in poor health.
At least he can see this . That’s great for him and his family
So happy for Chuck, he is family-my mom and he were cousins and spend lots of time in Santa Fe NM with his mom and my grandma (sisters) growing up. I cannot wait to get to Canton in person and perhaps in person say hello one more time. Yes, the reason I grew up as a Cowboys fan, I do with there were more of his natured awesomely skilled human beings playing at this level now. Thanks for the memories!
If Howley was playing today Parsons might be his backup. Howley was that good. PERIOD
it;s unfortunate some of these men die before they get that call to canton, i think the the people who select these men should really look at players who are sixty and over and put those people in canton while they still live, it came too late for chuck and also kenny the snake stabler
While I don’t disagree, Chuck Howley is alive he’s just 87 and couldn’t travel for this.
He is alive and well at home with his wife. He may not understand what is going on but he did get to put the jacket on and got to see his ring!
I JUST CRIED WHEN THE REAL AND ONLY MR. COWBOY BOB LILLY KISSED HIS BUST ....SCREW YOU HHOF.....SCREW YOU...HE CANNOT BE THERE ..GIVE THEM HELL SCOTT
HELLO CHUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello Chuck!!
HELLO CHUCK.......COWBOY LOVE FROM PHILTHY PA SINCE 76M...SCREW YOU DEAD VOTERS..COWBOY HATERS....MADE UT ANYWAY....#54 GOT YOUR JERSEY ON.....BOTH 54 CHUCK N RANDY IN
If he hadn’t tripped up on that interception of Bob Griese, he would have been in years ago. 😁
Hello Chuck
Shameful that it took so long and the mans health is so bad he wasn't able to attend or fully appreciate the honor..the NFL needs to stop dragging its rear and get these guys in while they can actually enjoy it....
As a cowboy fan, it's a complete damn shame Chuck got inducted long after he passed away. The NFL Hall of Fame is the most frustrating thing ever
He’s not dead
He's still alive, but he is unfortunately suffering from dementia and was unable to travel to Canton for the ceremonies.
You're not a real fan if you thought he was dead
Former players need to determine who his voted into the Hall. Not self-important pencil pushers.
You win SuperBowl MVP on a losing team you might as well be easily inducted, but hey the HoF has been hating on Cowboy players forever
I'm guilty of thinking Howley was just the guy who won Super Bowl MVP om a losing team.
Bob Lilly kissed Chuck Howley. Oof, that's wonderful.
Heaven only knows why it took so long for the only SB MVP from the losing team, and a 5 time All-Pro to become enshrined.
This man and Jerry West have one thing in common they're the only two players ever to be named MVP on the losing end of a championship makes you think they need to start awarding the MVP to the best player of the championship series win or lose
WVU legends
Give back the MVP for SB 5 and give it to Mike Curtis kids
a couple years too late...just a couple
Yeah like 40 years too late
Is Chuck immobile?
