You can be quite assured that a 7kW transmitter would send that Bluetooth signal out several miles without much effort. However, I too was quite disappointed by the fact that this generator could only do 7kW peak power and 5.5kW continuous power. However, that would actually be enough to charge a Tesla at an average speed of approximately 35 miles per hour, comparable to plugging it into a high-power wall connector running on a 240V@30A supply like what the average laundry dryer unit uses.

i purchased a 1980s Honda ES3500 Generator at a garage sale two weeks ago, they claimed it hadn’t been started or used in 15 years or so, got it for 25 bucks, i replaced the carburetor, spark plug, air filter changed the oil, and gave it a much deserved detail. I then added some ethanol free gas and it started after the 3rd pull... it’s only like 550 watts but it’s enough to run the fridge if i ever lose power.

@@mikeFPS1980 Last year I bought a Honda mower from 1983 or so. Guy said the carb needed cleaned. I think the real problem was it still had the original air filter-or at least looked that way. I cleaned it out with degreaser, changed oil and gas, sprayed some Gumout down the carb. Started on the second pull.

@@BillLaBrie I love Honda! Most of my cars i have owned in the past 20 years have been Honda cars, although i recently purchased a Subaru Outback, but yeah Honda makes things that last you pay a little more for their products but they last three times as long as other brands. I currently have a Honda HRC216HXA commercial lawn mower i got from a lawn care business that went bankrupt, it has to be at about 10 years old it was severely neglected, i change out the fluids, the blades, put in a new Honda Carburetor, and cleaned out the self propelled drive system with WD40 and the thing runs like a champ... My father has a Toro Timemaster mower and it’s only 3 years old and it’s been to the shop like 7 times, earlier this month the drive gave out and they ended up just giving him a brand new one which he promptly sold online and got a brand new Honda Mower!

Weird how so many of the pieces of high availability power solutions in data centers are now available to the average consumer. I'd wonder if there's some way to tie a goal zero 3000 to a Honda eu7000 and during a power outage have it VERY quickly switch to batteries, fire up the generator with auto-start, then flip over to that? Some kind of ATS would be needed to tie it all together. (And some controller.)

I have one of these models (not bluetooth), and love it. It's wired into a pony panel and with a simple flick of my transfer lever my house, hot water, well, fridge, two freezers and hot tub are ready to go. Now, the hot tub I will shut off to save surge power, but if we want to use it, we simply turn it back on and snap off a few other items we don't need at the time. These things are so quiet...and like he says..you want quiet running gennies when you're in the middle of an ice storm in Canada, for 5 days in January, and have all your essentials working, when others may not be fortunate. There is also eu30i without electric start & that one is 900$ , i got mine used for 300$ eu30is . It had a really really bad gummed up carbuator, the owner left the fuel on for 3yrs and it totally filled the crank case cylinder with petrol and carbuator had tar in it. Everything was so messy and took 3days to clean up , now runs like brand new. It only had 19hrs on it and i have converted it to run on propane, last year it ran non stop for 5 days after a cyclone.

I run non-Ethanol gasoline in my EU6500i and treat it with Sta-Bil. I try to run the generator every other month for about 15-mins and then top-off with fuel. I keep about 15-20 gallons of fuel on-hand at all times. As long as you are using non-Ethanol fuel and treating it with a preservative you can easily keep it for a year. I agree though on the diesel. I wish there were more diesel powered generators in the 8000W size available from the various vendors. Unfortunately, do to its fuel injection system, full on dual fuel operation isn't feasible. This model runs a BPR6ES spark plug as well, which is not-ideal for running in a propane environment. Generally speaking, on most Honda equipment, any small engine running propane will run a BPR2ES plug. That being said, these units do have a decent amount of space due to the lack of a fully fledged carburetor. so perhaps a LP system could be included, but would likely need an entirely accessory injection system or a non-liquid fuel carb (would almost certainly have to run off vapor withdraw from the tank).

Runs freezer and furnace in basement and entire first floor which includes refrigerator. Fridge and freezers and furnace all run for brief periods so not a constant drain.

Which is insane!, However if I had to purchase a unit now I will probably go for the 2200is because of weight and portability, I rarely require more than 1000W (2000 peak to start the water pump maybe less) so I am willing to sacrifice runtime for weight

@@1ronhall Ron, there are several manufacturers. None are bad, as the device has to comply with the NEC (National Electrical Code). Since you're hiring an electrician, he will likely find and buy the one that goes with your electrical panel.
For those not familiar with a generator interlock, it's a simple device (a piece of stamped and shaped sheet metal) that requires you to turn off your main circuit breaker before you can turn on the breaker that connects to your generator. That is an important safety, as it protects both your generator and any electrical utility workers out on the grid.
The beauty of the interlock is that you can pick and choose which circuits, of your entire panel, you wish to feed from your generator (keeping within the generator's capacity, of course). It eliminates having to wire in a transfer switch.
You'll also need an inlet port to accept the female end of the extension cord from your portable generator. Again, your electrician will likely find / install that.
      Good luck!

These are nice generators. I've had a EU6500i for about 8 years. I will say they are a bit of a PITA to work on even for routine maintenance. Everything is hard to access due to all the covers. When it comes time for a battery replacement about the only thing that fits is the OEM battery. They already were one of the most expensive generators in their class so I question why Honda felt it necessary to add Bluetooth and add another $500 to the price. As nice as they are I'm not sure I would buy another one as for $5000 I could buy TWO good quality generators of this size.

Even if you have to be fairly close(say, 50 yards) some form of theft prevention/retrieval system would really help Honda maintain its seat on the thrown and would sell a lot of people who are still on the fence.

5:30 This is the most important feature for a new generator!! An Inverter!
Because music systems and all the modern electronic need a clean power source!
With an old generator you can destroy modern equipment! If you draw more power than given, the frequency shifts brutally and breaks the devices.
However, hammer hammers or construction site equipment sometimes get along better with the old generators, as the current surges for the inverter generator are not so good.
