I ran a dive shop in Honduras for 2 years with the Honda EU3000IS, when we bought the shop I put an hour meter on the generator to track usage and oil change intervals. it originally came from a tool rental shop, and was used at the dive shop for the previous 2 years. By the time that it was retired (not from dying) by the math it had over 26,000 hours on the machine. I did oil changes every week and valve clearance adjustments when required. kept up with the routine maintenance and this thing lasted an extremely long time for a generator that's not rated for continuous use. We averaged about 8 amps continuous for 8 hours a day. We had to fill the tank once a day. I wouldn't hesitate to get the older version over the new one.
Great video! Got right to the content without a lot of fluff. MICROWAVEs are a generators worst enemy. We turn off the AC when we use it. It’s all about power management.
I just changed the battery in my 3000i and I love the quietness of that machine. I also have a victron 12v/3000va inverter with a 4000Ah lifepo4 CALB battery and use that for the ultimate quiet system. I really appreciate the video here, might I suggest setting the cooktop to 9 or 8 so that you can find a power load that both gensets can run then compare the noise given a fixed load. Thanks for taking the time to put these through their paces.
With a 50% bigger engine and lower compression, my hunch is the bigger loafing generator may outlast the smaller harder working generator by a fair margin if they are seeing higher draws and long run times. Being EFI though, the smaller may have considerable advantage at higher altitude and when changing altitude regularly.
I have a eu3000i, all good except for the weight. 130lbs dry! I was at Harbor Freight on Black Friday looking for bargains, not necessarily a gen set.On the floor unboxed were several returned and refurbished gen sets. A 4550 starting,3650 running open frame inverter was sticker marked at $419. Retail new was $679 and BF price was $599. Ending that day was 40% off the $419! Wanted a light wt 30 amp plug gen to run small welders. NO warranty, could not buy extended warranty. Buy it and bring back within 5 days if it has a problem. Went to move it on the floor and it was light. 77 lbs dry. Another slightly smaller conventional model also refurbished was over 100lbs. This 4550 replaced an earlier 4400 inverter that was recalled. CO shutoff etc. Added gas and oil, started it and warmed it up. Killer watt read 120v 60hz steady. 2 1500 watt heaters no problem. Added a 3rd 1500 watt heater which it carried for a short time before the overload light came on. Voltage and hertz very steady. Quiet and not rattley like many low cost open frame gensets. Not Honda quiet but quality sounding. Many people compared this unit favorably to HF 3500 watt fully enclosed inverter gen which mimics the Honda Eu 3000ie. Time will tell how good it is. Different sources said i can parallel this unit with the Honda.
Hey Gavin good video, something to consider is that many people do not have an electric stove usually they are propane, you may want to stick with the a/c's, the microwave, and fridge, and only use the stove when additional load is needed for larger gensets. Also the advantage is you can run the electric stove from 1-10 to ramp load as needed.

I'm liking the fact that you can parallel the 2000 with this especially cuz I own one but I like that. And Bluetooth operated eco control? By my phone? Yes please!
Nice review, I have a 3000is that I converted to LP and I can run it off my quick connects on my TT. But now I am considering the new 3200 as it is much more portable decisions, decisions.
Great video, Gavin! They both have their pluses. For me, the 3200 is best. Mainly for the weight. Now I know Honda quality is great but the price is crazy on any of them. If my now 4 year old Westinghouse ever dies, I'll consider a Honda long and hard. As good as my Westy is running, it may be a while.
For a lot of guys, pride of ownership is important; in other words, owning quality gear matters. That's why I own two EU2200's. My brother is a bargain hunter, so he bought a couple of Westinghouse Igen2500's. Knobs fall off, habitually hard to start; exactly what you'd expect for the price. Not impressive at all.
I have both. If you have to move it the 3200 is better, but if you are stationary: the larger fuel tank, the electric start and the fact the 3000 is much quieter give the 3000 edge (if you don't have to lift it).
I had the eu3000is for almost 7 years. Solid unit. I will say it doesn't handle big loads while it eco mode like you did. I don't think the eu3000is had a fighting chance with that eco mode on. I like how compact that 3200 was tho! Nice little unit! Was the eco mode on , on the 3200?
Awesome video, currently deciding between two 2200, a 3200 or a 3000 and I noticed you said the new 3000 has Bluetooth, do you know what year Honda added Bluetooth to the 3000? I dont even see the Bluetooth logo on their photos on the website.
I went the two 2200 route (Companion and standard) and am very happy I did. When you factor in the performance (meaning output), and the cost, it makes sense. Additionally I like the portability and ease of storage, especially over the 3000. I keep mine on shelves in my garage; try putting the 3000 on a shelf. FYI, the 3000 does not have Bluetooth.
I evaluated all these, including a pair if 2200i models, and concluded it’s 3200i all the way. Bought mine a few weeks ago and wouldn’t change a thing.
Isn't the bigger one bigger because of the larger gas tank and it's elevation due to the wheels and frame? Otherwise, I suspect that the internal parts I presume are about the same size.
Hey! I’m looking to get the compact generator for my RV to charge my battery and run the AC when needed. My RV is 30 amp, which adapter did you use to plug in to the compact? And would this generator suffice? Thanks for your help!

Oh man! This is exactly the test I've been waiting for. It's a compromise between the two. Apparently the engineers won't let you have your cake and eat it too. If they give you everything, they don't sell new units that they sandbag and hold back, always leaving you wanting a newer model that still won't do it all. I want the smaller one, but the run time, quietness, and longevity of the larger one is definitely going to be better. Less rpm from the larger displacement engine is going to wear longer, as it's over built, and less rpms, mean less wear. Plus you get the electric start. I'll be switching gears and going with dual eu2000is's, and do a very large 240 split phase inverter on a 800ah lithium setup for large intermittent loads. Like cooking, laundry and water heater duty. I have the roof space for a ton of solar, but still want a stout backup, and I think it'll be hard to beat dualing 2200's on the 12 gal extended tank I've already invested in. They'll fit in compartments better, lighter, and if one fails, ya still have half of your power. I've thought good long and hard about it for quite a while now, and my trade off will be more maintenance, a bit more fuel, setup time and two pulls instead of one. That will be a rare occasion with the setup I have planned. The good is more raw heavy power, redundancy, and cheaper initial investment. Gavin, without these vids, I'd probably go another 6 months thinking way too much about it. Now it's simple, buy the companion, link them up, and spend the $ I save on the solar portion, which will be used most until the clouds come out for an extended period. Awesome vids as usual, a like and comment for support. Best Genset tester and reviews on UA-cam period. Thanks for what you do for us brother, I most certainly appreciate it. Have a great day. Time for me to go get that paper.
Not a surprise. It has more peak than the big one. It's target market is rv'rs who will use them a week a year and want it to start the air conditioner 😊
Good video. I'm considering selling my 3000 in favor of the 3200. The 3000 is tough to get into the box of the truck by myself but I love it otherwise. I am also considering keeping my 3000 and buying a 2200 for times when i don't need to run the ac. I like the idea of fuel injection but I've heard of flooding issues with the 3200.
You can buy two EU2200i for the price of one EU3200i. Two EU2200i paralleled will give you more power (4400 watts) than the EU3200i and are easier to move around. Also running a Fuel Injected motor out of fuel is much worse than running a carburated engine out of fuel. Having said that I run a hybrid system. I use a Solar Charger and recharge it with a small gen. My solar charger will run the AC for about 3.5 hours by itself.
Going to buy the Honda EU3000is today for $2000 but really getting cold feet now. I'm reading a lot of bad reviews like it's not the same quality Honda generator as in the past, but idk what I would get instead.
@@GeneratorReviews None of those affordable ones will last. I have 26 years working in film industry and the Hondas are the only ones we use as many are over 20 years and still working perfect.NO other gens last that long 30K hours on them.
No, I didn’t turn the choke off when looking through the camera I thought I grabbed the key. I was trying to turn it off, and I accidentally grabbed the choke instead
Could you do a real world review between the 2200 and the 3200? Not sure if it’s worth it but it would help to see where the 2200 fails and the 3200 keeps going in real world examples.
So when it overloads your sol ? Or what does it just shut off all the way I'm sorry I'm just trying to understand the point then if it's just gonna do that🎉 what's the point yes I'm a noob. ?? Baffled

You mean to say a generator rated for 3200 w brand new outperforms a generator only rated for 3,000 Watts also the older model they both overloaded one cost $800 more than the other the little one that is. This was really the stupidest thing I've ever seen I didn't see a test other than sound
Honda is in a different league. You can not compare it to anything else. Maybe Yamaha comes close but again Yamaha also has some inverter issues but honda is just pioneers at this tech. There is not a single common failure in these that other brands do not have. Honda gens last 15-20 years easily.

Thats what I did with my two 2000's. that gives you 3200 running watts, redundancy, and run it through a transformer, you got it all!
Great video, is it an option to run a propane setup on it?
No, unfortunately it’s only Gas no dual fuel
Wow, very good test!
The big red is actually 49 db in low now the other newer honda 3200 has a better inverter capacity than the other
Not a surprise.
Seems like these are selling for $1999. I've seen some for $1399 but these could be a scam site. Do they ever go on sale? Will dealers take less?
Those are definitely not legit sales
@@GeneratorReviews I'll probably just suck it up and get the EU3000i for $1999 this weekend. :)
Great video but instead of overloading them immediately why not build up to that like you have on other reviews
Yeah, I would have gone closer to their rated wattages first to verify their advertised ratings, then ramp up into overload.
That’s how I always did it and some folks wanted to see the maximum output amps
Dunno. I use my 2000 full time and its small but breatha easy. I've got thousands of hours on it. I do miss my 3000 do that thing kicked ass.
Does the AC on the RV have soft start?
Yes I have soft starts on both units
What did you use to examine sign wave characteristic?
I used this oscilloscope
amzn.to/44ITO51
It can charge Tesla ev?
Yes
@@GeneratorReviews thanks
Going to buy the Honda EU3000is today for $2000 but really getting cold feet now. I'm reading a lot of bad reviews like it's not the same quality Honda generator as in the past, but idk what I would get instead.
There’s quite a few more affordable options these days
@@GeneratorReviews None of those affordable ones will last. I have 26 years working in film industry and the Hondas are the only ones we use as many are over 20 years and still working perfect.NO other gens last that long 30K hours on them.
Will eu3200i start after stored with fuel for a year?
You should never store your generator with gas.
@@GeneratorReviews UNless you use fuel stabilizer .
Hi Gavin, can the EU3200i parallel with the EU7000is?
Probably not since one only puts out 120 V and the other puts up 240 V it would be hard paralleling them together
Big difference in weight. 3000 is 160lbs vs the 3200 is 70lbs
At 8:05 you turned the choke off?
No, I didn’t turn the choke off when looking through the camera I thought I grabbed the key.
I was trying to turn it off, and I accidentally grabbed the choke instead
@@GeneratorReviews Thanks for the explanation.
check the price of a timing belt change on the 3200......and it runs at around 4500 rpm
Honda prices are wild
Have the 3000iu, love it, but it’s 140 lbs, and I’m getting older.
Only bad thing is the gas tank size , my generator runs my a/c unit , with a good load , tank life is less then 6 hrs , just my experience
Can we put a extended tank on the 3200i ?
Yes I believe you can
@@GeneratorReviews All it needs is a fuel pump?
Why do you need more than 8 hours of fuel?
Neither one handles your unrealistic high load. 1 second versus 5 seconds makes no difference.
Lol wasn’t trying to handle it, just trying to see the peak output
You're right. This "test" really did not provide any useful information.
Can you parallel the 3200?
Yes you can.
ua-cam.com/video/XCpngkDX3ns/v-deo.htmlsi=D_9oiuwxRyjbHToK
Could you do a real world review between the 2200 and the 3200? Not sure if it’s worth it but it would help to see where the 2200 fails and the 3200 keeps going in real world examples.
Dude , that was a lot more than it was rated…I would have turned the stove on last to avoid it’s surge…it may have worked that way..
So when it overloads your sol ? Or what does it just shut off all the way I'm sorry I'm just trying to understand the point then if it's just gonna do that🎉 what's the point yes I'm a noob. ?? Baffled
When the generator overload it trips, the circuit breaker
Man... I love your generator videos. My only complaint is your microphone. It seems to compress the sound so that we can't hear the sound of the generator. Hopefully you'll consider changing your mic....thanks for doing these. They are helpful.
Thanks for sharing this information I will definitely look into it
You can't run microwave like that. Nothing in microwave?
I always put a cup of water
You’re correct
now lets compare that new EU3200 to the other 3000 range generators!!
You got it 👍🏾😎
Inlike electronic starter.. ;but hate the weight
Higher RPM won it! for the 3.2
Electric start the 32.sell millions.T800Aust
Gavin 👍🏾💯😎😊
Awesome
I thought the Honda 3000 was going for 3k, but I check now and they re going for 2K, does that sound right?
Be careful with sellers
$2k is correct. I bought mine in July 2024 brand new for that price at a large retail camping store.
You mean to say a generator rated for 3200 w brand new outperforms a generator only rated for 3,000 Watts also the older model they both overloaded one cost $800 more than the other the little one that is. This was really the stupidest thing I've ever seen I didn't see a test other than sound
Take the eco mode off it will run it.
Like 7k in generators sitting on the lawn.
Parallel them
He said "handles the load"
That’s what you got out of the video
Only real advantage is the portability vs the 3000. Other than that way overrated vs Champion products.
Honda is in a different league. You can not compare it to anything else. Maybe Yamaha comes close but again Yamaha also has some inverter issues but honda is just pioneers at this tech. There is not a single common failure in these that other brands do not have. Honda gens last 15-20 years easily.
@@joebrown9621 i don't know where you live, but here in India. eu30is goes for 1200$ and 70is goes for 2500$. parts are super cheap aswell for honda oem parts. most of the small components that come from japan are a bit pricy but rest of the locally honda made parts at honda siel factory is so cheap that there is no market for imported china generators. i bought a used eu30i for 300$ , it had very low hours but the previous owner left the fuel on and the fuel rotted in the carb. i cleaned the carb. bought a whole set of gaskets , filters , tools from the honda dealership and the whole set was 30$. cleaned everything up in 3 days and it runs like a brand new set , in 2020 it ran 6 days non stop on propane after cyclone knocked out power for my home. my previous honda ebk was 25yrs old before it got stolen.
What model of Champion is their quite model in comparison to Honda or Yamaha? I have personally never seen one that wasn’t as bad as a lawnmower.
Champions are loud. If you don't mind noise, Champions are fine.
I’ve owned both, I would never go back to a champion. Hondas are soooo easy to work on if they ever need it.
Bigger engine will outlast that smaller engine in the long run rem Japanese build stuff to last not for showing off
Thank you.
