Same problem with the outlet flange. I'm fortunate as my girl is the 4 cylinder and RH drive so I don't have the same dismantling issues. My controller is positioned with more room. Good job you did by the way. Kind of job you only want to do every 20 years :)
I've got the same problem, Thank You for the Video, It Really helped Me Understand. My Leak was caused by the Little Plastic Piece on the Short End of It. Mine snapped off when I loosened the clamp. Just dry rotted after 22 years I guess.
Mercedes Engineers need a good smack in the mouth...talk about going backwards. Hoses are something that will be a replace for sure..to make them so hard to get to is disgusting. I have had Mercedes cars and trucks for 45 years and they are getting worse to work on all the time.

Check you fan clutch first, Thermostat and then radiator cap. Last thing water pump
