Then they would tell the service writer ok thanks I'll bring it back later to have it fixed . Of course I would never see the vehicle again

@@brptraininginstitute8878 if anything gets hot enough it can have a unique smell . The rear axle seal went bad in my car and believe me that is a unique stinking smell . That and burnt automatic transmission fluid .

Might have standing water causing a short to ground or corrosion. There’s a leak or waters getting in the body panels somewhere
Don’t think just because the check engine light is not on that there are no stored codes

If a technician needs to look up how to replace an ignition coil then he shouldn't be a technician.
