Love that you are focused on Cakewalk. Great DAW and free.
I just found Cakewalk recently - it's truly amazing. It has all the functionality of top DAWs and I find it to be incredibly fast and stable - just superb. Also love the console emulations, which make the mixing process very fast and intuitive.
Honestly didn't know about the multiple take lanes for comping until watching this; thank you! Your videos are always super helpful.
Gotta say I am LOVING your content, always explained so well, so pleasantly and with humour, and I don't feel either overwhelmed or stoopid for being so nooby at all this, thanks!
Thanks! Rewatching this video to brush up (recall) the comping with lanes, dim solo, etc. You're the best for starting the new channel "Cakewalk Revealed".
I watch most of your videos casually along with other peoples
BY FAR ONE OF THE MOST HELPFUL OF THE LOT
10/10 recommended video
Hi Mike, great video! You make it all seem very easy...
I loved your opening comment about 'rather show your underwear than allow others to hear your raw vocals' - I know the feeling! 😁
Yup, watched your video again! Thanks, Mike, for your super helpful library of Cakewalk tutorials.
Thank you Timothy :)
Pfff, my dude you have an awesome voice! Didn't think you could also sing.
Thanks for explaining this, Mike... This is one aspect of Cakewalk (and SONAR) that has always confounded me. As a result, I've never used it! Now I will!
Another superb instructional video. Thanks for your generosity devoting your time to helping us!
My pleasure William. Honestly, you wouldn't be so thankful if you knew how much I enjoy myself! 😜
Man, I've been watching all of your cakewalk content...simply amazing. I've been using cakewalk since home studio 9.... I've learned more in the last month by watching your videos than I did in the past 18 years of just using the program on my own with no help. Thank you!
As a complete newcomer to vocal recording I find your videos extremely helpful and your narrative easy to understand although it does take me sometime to absorb all the information. (80 yr old brain)
Having more than 1 take to comp would be a real luxury.
Thanks for this explanation! I've been manually comping for years, never realized Cakewalk has an easy way to do this. What a time saver.
New to Cakewalk Band Lab here myself. This man is simply THE BEST when it comes to tutorials in using this awesome software. I am currently working thru my first project using CBL and I have so far achieved much better results than I ever have using any multi track recorder. Thanks so much Mike! You are an excellent teacher.
Thank you, and good luck with your project!
Look for Perfect Imperfections :) Good one Mike😀
Mike, you're a life saver, bro.🙏
I've watched a lot of your tutorial videos and wanted to express my appreciation. Great job, and it's extra bonus to hear that both you and your wife and very talented singers.
I hit the dislike button twice LOL!! You clever dog!! I LOVE the way you explain CbB!!! So clear and easy to understand. You have a natural gift as a teacher. Subbed.
You are very kind my friend. Teaching is only half. If you understood, its because to are a good student!
@BobRocksBaby no, it just means you get to watch it twice.... or as many times as it takes. No shame in that. The student determines the outcome. The teacher only shows you the path.
Thanks so much for all your videos. This is the best DAW learning channel anywhere!
Thank you so much for explaining everything so well and easy! Cakewalk is also seriously the #1 free DAW for recording covers fr! Practically in love rn TT
Mate - so incredible helpful! Thanks so much!!!
Excellent video. Nice teaching.
Dude this video is a game changer for how I will approach recording vocals and editing them from now on!! I've wasted so much time doing so many retakes, hurting my voice by the end of one song, doing retake after retake while listening back before continuing...bc I'm still learning cakewalk..so learning this saves time in so many ways. Plus the amount of time I'd spend splitting good takes to make one complete take is unreasonable and I get lost in the mixing part. Your tips really helped me to realize I need to set myself up for success and easier mixing later on..not to mention better time management with doing max 5 takes, setting that before I move on to harmonies, bc I have had to do too many retakes bc the harmonies weren't matching up with the lead. Seriously can't believe I've been mixing with cakewalk for a year now and just now learning about comping. lol Thank you. I love your videos!! They are so helpful to this music producing noob and this over analytical person who spends way too much time on one song bc I focus on every little detail and trying things out..but have rarely released any of my newer mixed stuff bc I'm so overwhelmed and am terrible with time management.
Thanks Mike! Excellent work.
This is outstanding. Thank you Mike!
That was a great, excellent tutorial on comping for Cakewalk Bandlab! Just what I needed, just what I was waiting to see for a long time. I really apprecite it! Thanks!
Outstanding little workshop. Thank you.
Very informative. Thanks a lot for this video!

At last I understand comping in Cakewalk! Thank-you, Mike.

Heard the complete song, well done its a great mix and mastering job and overall wonderful song.
Hi Mike! Mike from Portugal here!
I recently started to use Cakewalk and you've been a life saver! Thank you so much for all your hard work!
Great voice by the way!!
Thanks, this was the best explanation of this feature I have seen. You helped me a lot. Thanks Mike!
I can't stress enough how thankful I am for all your content! Easy to follow, extremely clear and you're a super cool dude. Thank you and cheers from Argentina! =)
Fantastic! Thanks.
I love your videos. Your explanation in all your videos is so easy to follow. I've hatched two last night. This one and the one about send, patch points, aux and busses.
Great job
Excellent tutorials Mike. Thank you so much :-)
you're a great teacher..
Thanks Dude 👍
That's exactly what I searched for 📼🔥
Thanks for making this video!! I was completely lost when it came to comping until I stumbled upon this!
always good to review :) thanks
Oh, brother! Um, I mean, Oh, mother! We FINALLY get to know that singers are humans like you and me, after all! Anyhow, aside from comping, which is really further down the line in processing, the most important, I think, is vocal PROCESSING. You know, reverb and stuff! In the past couple of years I've gotten into recording my vocals just for fun. I'm not a vocalist, but a mere amateur karaoke singer, to be truthful! My other job has been practicing medicine for the past 40 years in the USA! :) :) :) I got an Audient EVO 8 recently. Set it up, put my headphones on, and I sing a few lines; I can hear my voice as is. Then I slip in Sonitus reverb into the track on Cakewalk, and process my voice, play it back, and holy mother! I almost fell off my chair about the difference! I thought, I can't believe that is my voice! Well, to be truthful, I was not *that* surprised, really: I've used mixers with reverb for a few years now; in the past year, a Mackie ProFX6V3, using a JBL Eon One speaker. I sing for fun and get friends to sing during parties. God, reverb must be the biggest ego booster in the history of music!!!!! One more thing: *while* recording on Cakewalk, if I turn ECHO on in the track, I can hear my processed voice live but it is a bit disconcerting because the lag of a fraction of a second causes me to hear the processed voice as a ghost voice on top of my actual voice! So I just stay down on earth and record with Echo off! :) :) :)
Great and well presented .. Thanks a million for such great effort. will keep learning from you ... BIG Thanks from the land of downunder.
Needed that! Thx Mike!
Excellent ..now I get it..will watch over and over and make notes. CW has it's issues but also many great features. thanks!!
Thanks for great walkthrough. Even though I read the manual, I never really "got" comping, but it is much clearer now.
Good singing voice mike. :)
Man u r amazing. I am sure u know that .but I can't prevent my self from admitting that to u again and again..
Much love to u from egypt 🇪🇬
I have no idea how Cakewalk hasn't become the de factor DAW now that it's completely free, used to be $500, and Reaper costs money when you want to get rid of the nag on startup. It baffles the mind. I fully expected that to happen and it hasn't. Thanks for the tips!
Great video I finally think I get it now!
Always avoided comping. This video has thrown some new light on the topic. I will have to give it a go. Really enjoy your videos.
Thanks, that was very helpful
Got a lot out of this thanks very much from New Zealand, great videos. Loving Cakewalk my fav by far I hope it will always be free!
You actually have a nice voice, I know a few singers who have huge success but don´t have a vast vocal range by any means, but can stay on the tune and be endearing, and you have one of those lovely voices. I wish mine was as good as yours.
Great content sir, really appreciate the info and the bright energetic way that you deliver it! I am currently working my way through setting up to record my 9 year old daughter's vocals each time she gets a new song and the Cakewalk info has been very helpful. Thanks very much!
That's awesome Josh, glad to hear that!
Your voice is so beautiful
Gracias
Excellent.
Ha! I've been using Cakewalk for years and never uncovered this comping feature. You just saved me hours. Lesson learned, always RTFM!
Great video, thx!
Veeery useful thanks!!
Wow man you just shocked me with that awesome voice after downplaying what I was about to hear
Wow thought I knew is DAW, keep up the Cakewalk stuff, finally someone that truly know it inside and out.
Thanks Mike. I have spent a lot of money on Cakewalk including lots of updates and upgrades all the way through Sonar, X1, X2, Producer, Platinum, and then with the demise of its last owners Gibson, until finally it is free since Bandlab took it on. The thing is I have learned more about Cakewalk since watching you than I ever did all these years. While it is true that I never asked too much from it then, ( just used it primarily to make and edit backing tracks for my act doing the Club circuit back in the day) but I am amazed with how much I never knew about how to use it properly. Im enjoying it so much more now. 😎
I just listened to Wonderland. Just beautiful. Thank you! The song vocalizes the trip my son has been on over the last five years.
Last week I learned that he would be a father. I'm stunned, I am afraid for him but overjoyed.
Life? We learned to laugh through our tears. Now you have a new song to write Son!
Love
Mom
I last used comping in Cakewalk when it was Sonar and found it buggy back then so stopped using it. However with the recent updates and improvements in CbB I will definitely be using it again and your overview will help to get me back up to speed quickly. Nicely done, thanks Mike.
Amazing Song!!!:)))' Bravo!!!
Listen you said that you didn't want us to hear you sing dry vocals that it may ruin your reputation and then realized I feel the same your vocals are fine, I was thinking for my self a good first impression is a must in life! because a one hit wonder gets to stick around until the next 3 releases bomb!
Oh and thanks for the lesson if only I could get cakewalk running but your tutorials are valuable to any DAW in the recording industry
Learned some stuff.!
Thanks Mike. I've never had much luck using comping. Your new video has given me a new understanding of
how to approach it. Cheers.
PS. so refreshing to see and hear an Aussie in these tutes.
I think he's English.
Awesome! Its been a while and I had forgotten how to take advantage of this!! :)
Thanks, mate!!
really Power Bro , nice video
Again a very good video on a more or less complex topic. I liked the most, that you mentioned all of the shortcuts you were using, since I like them very much. Didn't know about the whole loop-clip-arrow-keys-and-then-enter-thing, still did everything manually :D Also I liked you hinting to not being to perfect - music should be organic, and thus have some imperfections. Liked (and subbed already of course) with all my three accounts :)
Keep up the good work,
Love and Greetings from Germany!
Oh, and don't get me wrong, comping is a hard process, especially listening to the same over and over again, by more or less complex, i meant that the basic principle is easy.
Another great tutorial. Thank you very much. I really enjoy your videos, and I've learned so much. My productions come out better with your tips. Only problem now is that there is so much work to do on my older songs in order to make them sound just as good 😆
Nice!
Awesome video - i checked you out on soundcloud too - great music.
Hy man your videos is really amazing,
Thank you!
