I was just leaving SI-Drums because I had not found a mixer to separate the tracks and here is the solution: Drum Map. Thank you! Amazing how this video come just in time!

For anyone still trying to do this.
At 4:35 CS right clicks on the drum icon, this gives you the number to use when adding to the drum map.
I wasn't able to down load the Map or Template and stumbled though it manually. Hope this will save you some time.
Thanks for the videos and all your knowledge.

This is exactly the sort of video that drew me to Mike's channel in the first place: Practical ways to use Cakewalk out of the box to achieve solid results. There was nothing here that was particularly new to me, but having it presented in this clear-headed fashion made it all fall into place for me. (And this from someone who has been using Cakewalk since it was just a sequencing program, decades ago!)

Great thanks! There’s also a drum map for SI drums already available by default with cakewalk - it’s labelled Studio Instruments - Drums in the dropdown of presets

The drum map presets are found in the track’s output source dropdown. Click “New Drum Map” and then scroll down to the S’s to find “Studio Instruments - Drums”

Here's a less laborious and easier way to get the results you want by using MT power kit and then SI drums. Nothing wrong with Mike's way..I love his videos..just an alternative to use the best features of both programs.
    1. MT has way more beats, fills, grooves and they are easy to try. Use drag and drop to create your drums on ONE track. When you've reached the point where you're satisfied highlight the midi track and copy it.
    2. Insert SI Drums. Make your midi track and paste what you copied at 1:00.00.
    3. Go to "Process" and open Run Cal. Choose "split notes to tracks'. You now have a track for each drum piece. Select all those tracks. Hold ctrl and change all to "External input Ch. 10. and the output to SI drums...also light up all the blue squares "input echo. Lastly mute the MT kit.
Now you can use the tunings and other kits to get the sound you want and add effects or edits etc. to each component.

I was already thinking along the same lines as to how to accomplish this. But what hadn't occurred to me was the drum map part of it. When you got to that part I was saying out loud, "OH OKAY!"

Yes me too. I can get drums rhythms looped just fine but need a real drummer to make the fills and tricky things a good drummer does naturally. I need fills! Freddy Fingers just can't play fills. (trying to play drum fills using fingers on a keyboard)

Thank you for guiding us throught this!! In Addition, if any of you is trying to map Alesis Nitro Mesh to Cakewalk, it could be usefull to try to create a new blank DrumMaps an add just the following Notes to it:
    Snare D3 38
    Ring E3 40
    HiHat open Bb3 46
    HiHat closed F#3 42
    Cymb1 Db4 50
    Cymb2 Eb4 51
    Tom1 C4 48
    Tom2 A3 45
    Tom3 G3 43
    Kick C3 36
At least in my case it works ;)

Man, over the past 20 years I have tried all kinds of approaches to drum vsts( Groove Agent 2 and 4, SD3, BFD2, AD2, RealiDrums, etc), but your method is right on the money for me! I have a pile of projects started that I want to "switch" to this drum approach. How can I insert this set up efficiently/quickly? I'm already trying to "convert" my projects, but imagine there's a simpler way. OR at least I am hoping there's a simpler way! LOL I can see how this would simplify my life, both in terms of creating my drum track arrangements and in terms of mixing. THANK YOU! (Fair Dinkum!)

This is a really interesting way to separate the drums. It can be done more easily with session drummer, EZ drummer etc but works well for SI drums. I use a lot of string pads on my songs and applied the same method to SI strings which works well too. Thanks

Hi Mike, great tutorial as usual. I've downloaded the Ultimate SI Template and have a question for you about the layout of the tracks and buses. I see there there is an extra track for the Drum Room reverb and a separate bus for the Snare Reverb. Is there any difference in the way that these SENDS are being used? For example could they both been assigned as buses? Is there any reason why you've chosen to do it this way?
Just trying to learn Cakewalk one step at a time get my head around tracks, buses, aux tracks etc. Keep up the good work.

The issue that I'm having is when I try to record some drum samples manually, nothing shows up in the track lane? However, I can drag and drop a drum sample and that will work. I can also record using an audio track lane. No matter what I try I am unable to get any of the virtual instruments to record in the track lane. I have gone into edit and then preferences and am using "asioforall" as the input for cakewalk.
