  • We had the VW ID Buzz for the week so we thought it would be rude not to take it up to the lakes for a night to see if its a camper van candidate!

We have fitted the back of our Buzz with 6 SmartStore Pro boxes (ca. 35 litre size), three wide x two deep. These black with orange fittings are sturdier than the transparent non-pro boxes. One box is fitted with charging cables, etc., while the other five are used to store such things as food, after a trip to the grocery store. The height of these boxes is gudenuf at being the same height as the folded rear seats. We have used similar plastic boxes in our MPVs, for over 20 years. The width of the car (1210 mm) is perfect for a 1200 x 2000 x 100 mm mattress. What hasn't been done yet, is to chop the mattress into three (1200 x 666 x 100 mm) and fitting them into a purpose built mattress cover., that will fold appropriately, and allow it to be stowed away without issues.

Cool video, thanks for spending the time doing it, some quality father and daughter time. Kind of perplexed they haven't stolen the 'camp mode' idea from Tesla for such a vehicle. Seems like some lazy oversight on VW part.

Nice test there. I've got a transporter converted to a campervan, I bought it to get away into the wilderness over winter and lots of others do too! I've got a diesel heater in mine, warm but can be noisy getting up to temperature.
My local VW dealer don't seem to want to offer me a test drive, crazy. I'd want the LWB 4motion if I were to switch.
Shame the Buzz doesn't have a camp mode like Tesla do. No heatpump either I believe. It would have been good to cover range lost overnight through heating on your video.

Thanks for the review of the WV Buzz and let EVK know she is a natural. Watch yourself EVM shes coming for you:)
Interesting concept that someone would spend 75k on a Buzz and use it for camping, scary price but a great vehicle.
Looking to get my first and probably last EV when my pension lump sum comes through. Your Channel has lots of very helpful and down to earth info. Particularly liked your Vlog on solar and battery storage, which I’m assured is available here in Ireland.
I’ve used an ‘Amdro Boot Jump in my Berlingo for nearly a decade to go long holidays with my Amdro which turns a lot of van derived vehicle, including the VW Transporter into a camper and would work an absolute treat in this vehicle and keep your Buzz a regular MPV when the Boot Jump is lifted out the rest of the year and given the initial cost of. Give the Buzz’s high price the outlay on a Amdro would seem affordable. (I’m not part of the Amdro but rather a very satisfied customer, and fan of wild camping)
Keep up with the vids EVM as always they are very enjoyable and informative.

I just got an ex Demo Life (black interior) registered end Jan 2023 with 4,500 miles for £40K for some general car duties and weekend camper use. Traded in my 23 plate Polo so costing me £23.5K, which is not "end-of world" affordability for an MPV. Even a new Transporter 6.1 panel van is over £40K typically still on diesel. Power duties will be served off a Jackery Explorer 1000 Plus which can constantly power 2kW max load so work with my portable induction hob and small AirFryer. The Jackery also heavy enough to fool the Buzz if put on Drivers seat for night heating/cooling etc. 12V already used for the Alpicool P18L small portable fridge. Got a folding double mattress that can also double-up as a sofa in back. Thermal blinds arder and due next week.

Nice father, daughter camping. It is too bad the heat will not stay on all night. Here in Nova Scotia, Canada the nights would be much colder this time of year and being old now, heat is required all of the time. You could bring a camp stove and cooler and stay the weekend. You could do some hiking and have the perfect way to spend the weekend.

Bonkers? I think many Buzz owners have children who influence vehicle choices, and children today don't want to be seen by their peers being driven around in an ICE vehicle. These same children will be even more vocal as they age, and ask precisely what their parents did to prevent/ mitigate climate change? Buying a Hymer, will not be seen as a particularly good answer. For my wife and I there was absolutely no way that we were going to buy an ICE vehicle in 2023. The choice was between Renault, Peugeot/ Citroën and Volkswagen. Buzz offered the best of these three.
