Today I am taking my dog to the vet. It is the end of his life (hard time). I have been binge watching your videos. I really respect the way you take care of your plants. You have definitely helped me with my processes. Thank you!
You are one of my favorite UTUBE influencers. I really respect your integrity and honesty about how you handle your social media business. I would definitely follow your channel for makeup and skincare. Best of luck in 2023 with your decisions moving forward. I will be looking forward to any content you put out.
Thank youuu 🥹 That really means so much!! I love being here and I'm happy to share about my experiences! I knew I didn't want to be one of these pages that constantly promotes stuff and I'm glad I can stay true to myself :)
Hi Melissa, I am a 67 year old widow and lifetime introvert I stay to myself I never had lots of friends, I have one friend of over 40 years. I don't like BS so I'm quiet but I will defend myself. So good for you to stand up to that company. I love watching your videos and I think you are a very sweet person, what ever videos you do I will watch.Happy New Year 🎉💕
Respect for valuing yourself enough to take a stand regarding collaborations with companies. And I agree - we need influencers for various age groups. We need people that we can relate to.
You know I completely understand your choice to leave medicine. There’s a reason that I too have found solace in plants and I’m proud to call you a planty friend. Hugs! 💚🪴💚
Thank you!! It was a really hard decision and I'm going to keep my license up just in case but I really am so glad I found plants and how much they helped me through everything! 🥰
Thanks for always keeping it real with us Melissa. Not many content creators do that anymore, but I hope that you being vocal about this will give more of them the courage to do the same.
I loved this video. I appreciate that you don't promote for companies that try and use you. It shows what kind of company they are and I trust you and I use products that you recommend. I appreciate you so much and if you do a beauty channel, as a 53 year old, I totally agree with you on having a focus on aging and I would be a subscriber for sure.
Thank you!! I appreciate that! I have come to realize most companies just want to use my platform and it's really sad because I was looking forward to working with brands and getting sponsorships. Not saying it's out of the picture but I'm just really particular with what I promote and who I work with. Thank you for saying that about a beauty channel! :)
I really love and appreciate your transparency. Not a lot of genuine ppl out here in the world like you anymore. Happy New Year and I pray that you & your husband are blessed abundantly in 2023! I’ll be 32 in February and I’d love to see you do a channel for skincare & makeup.
I'm so impressed by the way you conduct yourself! Good for you for knowing your worth & sticking to your values! You do deserve to be paid & I support you 100%!
Thank you :) I appreciate that! I wished more companies valued how much time and work it goes into making videos. I know everyone is different but I tend to go out of my way especially if it's for promoting a product for a company. I want to do a good job!
Hi Melissa, I love your content. I've been binging your channel for about a month now, and you inspire me so much with my plants. It's so cool to see this older video and you achieving your goal of selling plants now. Thanks for being you, and I'll always support you. ❤️
I am so thankful for your channel! Thank you for sharing your story! Remember, hurt people, hurt people. I am glad you have learned to ignore the hurters!!
Hi Melissa. I'm not into all of the social media stuff being in my late 60s. I'm getting into houseplants rescuing clearance plants. Anyways, I enjoy your channel because you're down-to-earth. It's wonderful that you've opened yourself up to give us a small glimpse into your life, home, cats, and your love for plants. Just throwing out suggestions knowing that it will be extra work, but maybe take a poll on interest in mini-courses (basic plant care, dive into nutrients for plants on moss poles, troubleshooting your plants, etc.)? I'm sure whatever venture you decide on will be best for you. Wishing you much success and growth🪴 🎉👏🌻
I just love your plant enthusiasm! I'm a plant mom newbie...in a small townhome. Finding space amongst 2 cats is challenging! It is so soothing to listen and watch your tender loving touch to all things plants!!
I used to only watch makeup/bag videos until my life got very stressful that I ventured out into plant. Now, I only watch plant’s video and even started making videos last Summer just to keep myself busy and clam. I love your video and will support any contents you decide. ❤❤❤
Thank you!! I do the same now too lol I don't even watch makeup content anymore, just plant content. I used to be hooked on them! I'm not sure if I want to do it but I'll see how the first part of the year goes :)
I had no idea that these companies treated UA-camrs like that! That’s really interesting. I think it’s fantastic that you stand up to them and say no! I love you even more now. I wish you all the best for 2023 💚💚💚
It's honestly so disrespectful in my opinion. I'm sure there's companies out there that are willing to pay fair and are great companies to work with. I could definitely learn to reach out myself and maybe one day I'll give it a go to see what happens but to ask someone to do all this work for free is absolutely crazy. I've had some companies even come back with $10 for me to shout them out for 2-3 minutes in my video! lol
I really appreciated hearing your journey in life and on you tube. It dosen't sound easy, but you make it look easy. You are one of my favorite you tubers for sure. Continued success in 2023 and hopefully all your dreams come true.
Thank you so much! Social media can be a lot some days trying to stay active but I'm determined to make this work so I can be a little hard on myself at times. I'm still learning to find balance because even though this is work for me I still want to enjoy plants as a fun hobby too.
Companies spend thousands of dollars making & marketing for commercials. For them to basically scam a content creator into marketing their products for basically nothing is wrong. Glad Melissa holds them accountable. Love your content 💜🪴🌴🌱
Thank you for saying that :) It's hard trying to deal with some of these companies sometimes and I know there's good ones out there. It's still an area I'm learning about but I definitely know my worth 🤗
Girl, I know how healthcare/caretaker burnout can be-it is hard and can be really brutal trying to work through and move past it! Kudos to you for realizing your limits and putting your health and self care first! Also, thank you for your service in the healthcare field as a nurse! Nursing school is so tough and then being in out in the field as a nurse is also equally (or even more) challenging. You are such an inspiration to me! I did not know your healthcare -> plant YT journey story until I watched this video. I went to school and graduated like two years ago with a degree in the healthcare field and I have already felt the burnout from the pandemic, and trying to find a (consistent) job as a PTA in SC has been tough with my personal situation this past year in 2022. Praying for new opportunities in 2023 for me whether it is as a PTA or working elsewhere maybe with planty YT (if I ever get the courage to post any videos) or continuing along the childcare education direction (I am currently a full time sub TA in 3k-4k grade level and working as the afterschool daycare at the school). I do kinda miss working in healthcare, but it can be very tough to do. So I very much respect your decisions to step away from it during the pandemic! And yes, you are so right!! - I have been recording videos since the beginning of 2022, and I have yet to find the courage to post any of it (I can barely stand to hear myself talking on video when trying to watch it over to make sure it will look/sound/be good to post on YT). And I also don’t have any tech-savvy stuff/equipment to use for making/posting YT vids (aside from my iPhone) and it can be so overwhelming. One of my goals for 2023 is to gather up the courage to make and post at least two maybe three videos on YT this year. Anyways…thank you so much for this chatty repot video-it is very genuine and super realistic and helpful for me as a viewer and also as maybe a potential/future content creator. You rock!
aww, I relate so much! The healthcare was so challenging the last several years, I really do applaud those that have stuck with it. It definitely drove me away and many others and that's so sad :( I hope you can get to post your first video! It's okay to be scared and to not know what you're doing. I feel like it took so long to get comfortable and I still get nervous filming! You become more confident over time and it gets so much better!! You'll be so happy you pushed yourself to do it!
You've definitely come a long way Melissa from 13,000 followers on UA-cam and I'm glad cos I just love watching your content....you're my go to content creator that always brings a smile to my face. Your smile is contagious and your videos are alway calming and relaxed. I hope you keep doing these videos for long time and that you finally get brand deals that are worth your while! My plant goal for 2023 is to focus on leaf size of all of my philos and epipremnums so here's me ramping up my moss pole game💪 Looking forward to more of your content 👏🏼😻
I’ve watched a few of your videos, but this one made me really like you. It felt so personable and like I was talking to a friend. Keep going you’ll be gaining so many followers in no time!
aw thank you so much! 🥹 I just felt like sitting down and chatting for some reason it felt right. I just need to get up the courage to do some lives now :)
Planty goals for 2023: just get my Hoyas to bloom. I’ve got two with peduncles. So I’m waiting to see what happens. I found one after I repotted it. I hope that continues to grow. The other one is one flower bulb out of a dozen where the other 11 blasted. It’s still growing. This one is my multiflora.
Love this video. I’ve been watching you since Feb. when I started collecting plants to help with anxiety. I’ve learned so much from you. Looking forward to seeing what 2023 holds for you. God bless!!!
I love your authenticity, it makes you so likeable. Even if UA-cam and social media don't show the whole character of a person, I can tell from the distance that you are a very kind person. Your opinion to different topics is always very thought out, what I appreciate and it is just nice to listen to. So the topic itself isn't that important, although I am a crazy plant lady of course and this is my favourite subject. But please be aware that doing UA-cam or Instagram full-time for earning money led many UA-camrs to a burnout aswell. I saw so many quitting. Wishing you and your husband and the cats all the best for 2023 Greetings from Germany ❣️ Oh, and you belong very much here!
Thank you really 🥹 It makes me so happy to be here right now and I never thought I would actually be making these videos and putting myself out here like this. I worry that starting a second channel would lead to that feeling and I definitely don't want that. I really do enjoy this and it doesn't really feel like work to me which is a good thing! I know it's not for everyone and doing too much can definitely lead to exhaustion and I am still learning that balance :)
Hi Melissa, loved your vulnerability and love your videos. Hey so this ad came up on my social media for nursing, I'm not a nurse but I am in the medical field. But some of the fields mentioned was interesting... School nurse, Cruise ship nurse, Infusion center nurse and there are so many part time options. The 1 thing I would def do if I was a nurse is work at a med spa doing like laser type stuff. Then I could benefit from all those treatments myself😄. And lastly, the WFH u could possibly do is phone advice nurse. I know someone who transitioned to that position for pandemic. Minimalist Cali on UA-cam is also a nurse and she got a wfh job in her field. Not exactly sure but it might be something similar to advice nurse. Good luck with your 2023 plans!
I Love your videos! I am very reserved on who I follow on social media because of the drama that comes with it. I enjoy your content, so as my niece would say DO YOU BOO!!❤❤❤
I just found your channel and I love you already! I will be 33 this year and I would definitely subscribe to the beauty and skin care channel! There are no beauty "gurus" in our age category. Please don't give up on your dream!
Thank you soo much! 🥹 Happy to have you here! I'll definitely share if I decide to make a second channel for that! I feel like I don't want to be so niched down with houseplants and there's so many more opportunities there :)
I love your honesty! A lot of people don't realise that, as a self-employed person, your time is valuable and you do need to be properly remunerated for it. My planty goal for 2023 is to launch the alternative-to-Facebook online plant community that I've been working on for the last six months. It's something I believe passionately in, but as a one-woman startup, it's pretty terrifying to pin all my hopes and dreams on this one project. I appreciated your encouraging words about feeling the fear and doing it anyway! I am planning to reach out to you shortly in regard to that... and now I am a little nervous, lol!
You are the best! Thank you for being you. Also, your voice is SO soothing and I love listening to your chatty videos while I do my nails, it's like I'm sitting and chatting with my friend! 😆 Love, your IG pal from NC 💗
Thank you for your videos! It's great getting to know you better! I always thought you were a nurse! xo I lost my family pet last year in January, Jake, a golden doodle and he was 13. Very difficult time.. I'm sorry for the loss of your St Bernard xo Now i have 2 little pups.. both my beautiful fur babies xo I work from home full time and i love having them, i work for a health insurance company. Ive been married for 22 years and we have 3 children.. and 2 grandsons! xoxo we're in Massachusetts! i love your content and I appreciate your kind sweet soul! you'll be a success no matter what you do!! xo
Thank you so much for sharing! I'm so sorry for your loss too, it never gets easier! I'm happy for you new puppies! They bring so much joy :) I appreciate you being here and for supporting! 🥰
I'm looking at you and what your doing. I'm not snooping your background. Lol your home is absolutely spotless. To be honest I didn't even see the cat pole until you pointed it out. You have one of the better planty channels so just keep doing what your doing and I'll keep watching.
Thank you! We love our home here in Savannah. This floor plan sold us on this home and we got so lucky with the lot and location. I like to clean so if things are messy it bugs me lol.
What a wonderful video… personal, reflective, honest and prospective. I almost never listen to videos that long. But I (we) am a fan and interest in your future planning was the lure for a fellow plant aficionado. You are essentially a neighbor. We live inland from Savannah (hour and a half, Baxley). We are retired as of this year. Beth is a CRNA and one of our daughters is an RN that felt all the anguish of Covid that you experienced. It almost cost her her passion (nursing). At your age I was still pounding away at making the almighty dollar. Later in my mid fifties I realized peace, serenity, and joy could never be obtained unless you stick with your passion with all the zeal you can muster. Seeing how the crisis led you to your passion it would be a shame to let anything stand in your way to stay there. I believe you have already found the perfect niche. Now find a way to keep it. Scrape, claw, research, network with others who are successful at making a living at it, but never let it go or convolute it by other means. We follow all your Instagram reels and informative references. Your UA-cam channel is a daily favorite. You are good at this and your plants are some of the most gorgeous I’ve seen. I could certainly see you selling some on a small manageable scale as you continue to build, and from there who knows. You might consider a series that I don’t believe exists today. Show people lighting, watering methods, what works, what doesn’t work. Let people see where your plants grow and thrive an explain why, and on and on. Reality TV is all the rage, why not reality plants for the myriad peoples who would like to pursue their plant passion but can’t grasp how. So I ramble and occasionally it’s therapeutic, but you asked and I offered. Be Blessed and have Joy in all you do, Shaun
Thank you for writing all this I read it a few times :) Happy to be close neighbors! I appreciate the support so much! Some days I'm unsure of where to take the next step and what the future holds because I really love plants and the joy they have brought into my life. I know it'll take time to figure things out and I hope to make a career out of this one day. Leaving the beside was hard and I never felt burnout like that in my life with a job. It affected me on days I didn't have to be there and it got to a point that I just had to leave. It was like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders knowing I could wake up and not have that feeling of dread. It sounds bad but I can't really describe it. I like your video idea! It's hard sometimes to show certain things or to film certain ways but I'll definitely keep this in mind. Thank you so much for being here!
I loved this longer chatty video! I have found you only recently and quickly realize how much alike we are, and like you say its about finding your people which I feel like I have done that with your content. I'll be turning 31 in a few months and can absolutely relate to what you express about the drama, the clicks, etc. and absolutely understand and respect you wanting to keep to yourself!
Thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!! It's taken awhile for me to realize that. I came across a reel recently that someone made and they worded it something like 20% of people won't like you no matter what you do but 80% will so just focus on the 80% and forget trying to change for that 20% because no matter what they still won't like you. You want to try to please everyone so it can be hard sometimes but after hearing that it made me feel so much better!
We're hoping to landscape some this spring so I can definitely film some of that. I don't know anything at all about gardening but I would love to learn one day and start! :)
This was a great video. I’m always amazed that some people will freely type such nasty things but they would never ever to say to someone’s face. Shame on them. Love your videos , so relaxing to watch and I learn so much.
Thank you!! Exactly :) It's easy to hide behind a screen. I try not to let things get to me anymore but it definitely took awhile to get to this point!
I loved this video!!! This answered so many questions that I was wondering about, including your nursing career update and your dog:( My plant goals are to get all of my hanging plants on poles and to make my own poles! I love that look so much and I love your plant room! Did you have your house custom built then or you just moved into an already built house. You could always do cat videos. I am more of a dog person but I know lots of people who love cat videos! What about outside landscaping plans? Your property looks gorgeous! You could do some cool videos outside too!
Hi Melissa, I just wanted to say that I loved this video! If you ever feel like ranting again I would watch for sure because I loved your honesty and your story is very inspiring to me (I’m an engineering student and I’m kinda loosing it😅). If you start a new project make sure to update us so we can watch more of your content! I just find your videos so calming and I really really like you and your style ❤ I wish you the best for this year and I hope you’ll keep growing as a creator as big as your marble queen leaves! 😂❤
“I hope you guys don’t mind the cat post on the floor.” Melissa you’re just like me 😂 whenever I have a zoom meeting working from home, I feel like I need to scramble and pick up all the cat toys in the background 😂
My plants goals are to keep juvenile hoyas and cuttings alive. If they’re little I kill them. I’d also like to find the balance between under watering and causing root rot from under watering. #goals. I just scored a Fabrikor on marketplace so I’m planning to make that my needy Hoya cabinet in hopes of achieving these goals. Great move getting out of medicine. It’s no place to be if you value the whole my body my choice thing as well as overworked, unappreciated etc. My daughter got out after 14 years with no regrets. I’ve been self employed since 1989. I’ve always got a side hustle but it’s very freeing and I’ve made it work. Good luck, you’ll figure it out.
Thank you! It can be a great profession for some but I couldn't do it anymore. I felt so unappreciated and the pandemic made things so much worse for healthcare workers and many others. It felt surreal after I quit and a huge weight was lifted. Nice score!! I hope your Hoya cuttings can do well for you this year. Some of my current Hoyas started really small and I feel like it's hard finding that balance like you said. Wishing you the best with them!!
hi melissa 😊 WE'RE THE SAME AGE! that's cool. i am coming from your insta to learn more about you because i think you're super lovely. you've already answered two of my question box questions! 🙇🏻♀️ commenting to help you with your engagement and the algorithm! i hope you can continue to make plant content. i enjoy it a lot. best wishes for the rest of 2023! (it's already april, yikes!) ❤ rea from australia
This video was excellent. I couldn’t agree more with your opinions regarding businesses whose motives are less than completely honest. I was impressed but not surprised with your well spoken intelligent approach to this matter. Not surprised because I think you are always well spoken and intelligent in your approach to everything plantology related. I also relate to your struggles during the pandemic. I decided to retire (I’m 69 yrs old) during the pandemic for the same reasons you left nursing. You must know this but I’m sure your videos are very helpful to many of your viewers who are struggling with with depressed moods. Plants are very therapeutic for sure. Finally, you are NOT even close to old. Please keep up the good work you do.
Thank you so much! It makes me so happy know I can help someone and I love hearing that! I enjoy making videos but to hear that I actually made someone's day better motivates me to keep pushing forward. I loved watching UA-cam learning about plants when I first started and it was so therapeutic for me :) The pandemic really was hard for so many people and professions. I'm sure it was a tough decision to retire but glad that you knew it was best for you 🥰
1/3/23 Happy New Year! You go girl! Stick to your convictions; they see you & know who you are. They know exactly what they are doing when they lowball you. Anyway, I enjoy your channel & I wish you well in your goals for 2023.
Thank you!! I'm happy to work with companies and I feel like I'm someone easy to get along with and would do a great job because I don't like letting people down but I know my worth and how much time I put into things and definitely not letting these companies take advantage :)
Have you thought about working at one of your local hospitals, but from home? I work from home full time for one of our major hospitals in my state (CA). I work with utilization reviews management & billing/coding. We have plenty of RNs who also do similar types of work from home. You can still earn great money, using your RN degree, but you won’t have to be at the bedside or physically deal with patients. We have similar jobs that are part time or even per diem as needed. Just a thought.
Hi butterfly :) I am so proud of you for quiting your job where you did not feel safe.....doors will keep opening up for you.....doing what you love will keep you in alignment.....vlogs, plants, lifestyle, beauty, cats....all these would make wonderful content because of who you are....we love what you love...so you may be surprised at the response :)...you are rich in so so so many ways.....so keep locking in that feeling of how rich you already are..your courage and honesty and staying in reality....your qualities are rare...so keep harnessing them...I think it will all continue to come to life natrually for you....we will be here with you.....keep your wings up....love tina
Thank you!! 🥹 You are making me tear up! I appreciate you so much! I'm going to continue to do my best and hoping this year will bring some more opportunities for me. I'm happy I can be here 🤗
Great video! All the best to you in 2023, I am sure things will fall into place for you. I am hoping to reduce my plant collection (200ish) to just the ones I absolutely love and try to appreciate them more 😊.
You go girl! I really enjoyed this video getting to know you more! And I love your videos and would absolutely love to see you start up a skin care and beauty channel, I am also getting a tad older, creeping up to my 30's so I definitely agree with you on there being a huge age gap on the beauty channels. And there is absolutely no shame in wanting to start up something else for yourself to be able to make money on social media full time if this is something you're super passionate about 😊
Hi! New subscriber here! I'm loving your content and currently binging lol. Your plants are absolutely stunning, you take such great care of them! Wow! ♥️💕🪴You are also gorgeous! Also, I really appreciate influencers like yourself who tell it like it is! I'm 36, going on 37 in February and it's such a breath of fresh air to see UA-cam influencers/planty moms and dads in our age range! So glad I found your channel! Keep up the great work!👍🏼🎉
I love your plant content! I still remember the first video that I watch was about how to make a moss pole, and then I started to follow your YT channel. I also just started my Instagram last December about houseplants and hope one day can become like you. Oh, also this year maybe I want to start my YT channel about a houseplant. I'm 35 and hope it's not too late to join the plant community😅. And by the way, I enjoy it when you do plant shopping. Hope u can do more! 😃☺️💚
Thank you for this video. It's like brunch with girlfriends 😍 Like you, I work in healthcare and I do have respect for nurses (you guys put up with so much from patients and families and doctors). That's the reason why I decided to just work in the lab. I'm very introverted so lab is a better environment for me. I have known nurses who got burnt out by bedside so they started working remotely for health insurance companies in 24/7 nurse line or started working at doctor clinics so the patient interaction is reduced. I hope you do find something that will allow you to do what love to you do. I really appreciate your videos 💚💚💚 plants have been helping me with my grief and your videos are helping since I just started with plants last October. 💚💚💚
Nursing definitely had its challenges for sure! Many good days and bad days. I was actually thinking about looking for other work before the pandemic hit then I got scared to leave lol I was so familiar with my workplace and was afraid to branch out and try something new. I honestly don't know how I did it for so long being the person that I am. Traffic was a nightmare too! I'm really happy I can do this right now and be home because I never want to go out anymore lol.
Hi Melissa. I loved this chatty repot. My 2023 plant goal is to have beautiful plants on poles 🥰 I have started quite a few but I have just popped a variegated heart leaf on a pole and that’s the one I am currently excited for the most. Although I can definitely see my Cebu blue starting to size up which is very exciting.
I just recently subscribed to your channel and I’m a cat and plant lover. I have strings of hearts, turtles, pearls, dolphins, beads and fish hooks. I love the plants that trail.
I know you are done with nursing..but there are lots of nursing jobs you can do from home. Health insurance companies hire nurses for multiple roles that do not include actually caring for patients. Just a thought! I will watch whatever you do. I'm in the 45-50 age group, and I definitely trust makeup and skincare suggestions more from someone who actually possibly needs it😅.My plant goal this year is to learn to live and care for my current collection..and if I bring any new plants home, I get rid of that many plants. 1 in =1 out🤞
Loved this video, it was nice to understand where you come from Good for you to keep your respect in this industry Keep it going, I watch all your content I have 200 plants but all easy plants mostly cactus, I really use the info of your poles Thanks for your 2022 stuff Hope you have a great 2023
Thank you for being here! That's amazing!! I only have a few cactus plants but I like them! I think they can be difficult plants for a lot of people so that's amazing to have that many!! 🥰
Cool insight into the influencer world. Thank you. You come across very genuine and that’s nice. Heck, I’m not a cat person and yours don’t annoy me. Lol. I couldn’t be a UA-camr myself as getting in front of the camera and putting that out there constantly….I admire those who do. I’d probably also be canceled quick for responses I’d make to shysty comments. Def a FAFO person. Instagram has been more interesting to me lately. Taking pictures of cool stuff I see and posting is fun, even though I’m not a photographer. Wish ya the best whatever you do. Also, I find with the D shaped poles, I put them to the edge v middle since the backside isn’t used and gives more real estate in the pot for the plants.
This was a very nice, get to know you video. Wish everyone would do this.I have been in the hair/ beauty business all my life. But now a side thing. You have any hobbies other than this. Do you like making stuff like knitting, cross stitch . Or maybe dyes from plants that you could use to dye yarn. Thanks
Woah. I'm actually mad they used your reel without permission or even a partnership deal. AFTER so long. I'm guessing they thought you won't find out or won't mind since the reel is "old". But my respect to you for holding your ground! You are one of my favorite plant channels 😁 Happy Advanced Birthday in case I missed it next month haha! 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!! I was soo mad and upset! I had to hold back lol I wanted to really lay into them but I tried to keep it professional. Whenever I see someone promoting them it makes me sick now. If I find out that they are still using my reel I will pursue it further if I have to. They told me the ad was removed so it's definitely still on my radar :)
Loved the video and hearing about your life and experiences. I currently work full time in retail and it’s so hard to find the time to dedicate to my plants and animals 😞. I have an instagram account for them and would love to do more but just finding the time is hard. Respect you leaving your job and taking some time for you.
That's actually WILD!! 50-100 for a video... I used to be active on my beauty channel and was a partner with Sigma Beauty when they first came out and I got 300 per video I did for them and that was 12 years ago!! There are some beauty influencers in our age range (I'm the same as you) as they all started 12-13 years ago and some are still out there and some even have their own brands now which is really amazing. Really cool niche to get into. I'm so happy you have boundaries for your value! Wish you would share more so we would know who not to support because that's shady and I do not want to give them my money. (understand why you don't though haha)
Yeah, it's so embarrassing for some of them. I couldn't imagine asking someone to work for free or for a whopping $10 lol which I still get asked to do work for that little. I guess I feel bad outing the company publicly even though I did absolutely nothing wrong. I'll say it's a plant support brand 😅
Nice to hear more about the person behind the videos. Personally, I have been jonesing for a lime green & a rabbit's foot manranta to add to my red maranta that I have had for a couple years now. Question though, do the rabbits foot move/fold their leaves think the red do? I'm thinking they don't but idk. Hope you have a fabulous 2023.
Hi Melissa! I have this huge philo dean mcdowell and i’m wondering if I can repot it this time of year into a large rectangular pot? It’s working on a big new leaf at the moment so I’m a little hesistant.. it is outgrowing its pot and I want it to crawl more. Otherwise the plant is very happy in its environment (nice bright indirect light and warm). What do you think? Thank you so much for all your amazing videos!
Thank you for the video. It was like sitting down with a new friend and learning more about them. I have loved all your videos since the first time I came across them on UA-cam. I've also purchased several items from vendors who have sent you items that you've used on your channel. Sol Soils is one that I've purchased from a lot. I hope UA-cam works out for you since you can tell you put a lot into your videos. I also hope that 2023 is the year you get a sponsor who is fair and honest. My plant goals are to get more organized with my plants.
Thank you so much and you're welcome! I'm happy to share and thank you for being here and for purchasing some products! I'm happy to share stuff I have used and have gotten good results from. They don't pay me anything to promote them I just genuinely love their soils. I get a little commission from the discount code but it's not a lot but I do appreciate it so much!! I hope you have an amazing start to you new year!
Love this video! I’m in nursing school right now, but want to start my own plant channel. Editing for me takes forever though with my class schedules and work 😣
You are my favorite youtuber. I've only been on this plant journey for a couple of months, but I have learned so much from you. Right now I have mainly hoyas and a few succulents. But I've been hoping for a Calathea Orbifolia or a Tri Color Philodendron. But I'm trying to pace myself so hubby doesn't "evict" me. LOL! Out of all the videos I have watched so far, this is the one I have loved the most. I really enjoyed getting to know you better. Please keep the awesome videos coming! Oh, I have an idea! Have you ever seen the videos where make up influencers get their hubby to do their makeup? Maybe you could get your hubby to repot one of your plants. 😆
lol I love that! I think he would be so clueless haha. I'm trying to get him to film with me one day so we'll see! Pacing yourself can be so hard to do sometimes. It's fun getting new plants but it can get overwhelming at times. I was someone who had a new plant coming in the mail every week lol. I had a Lowe's 2 minutes from my old house so I was there every week as well and it was very tempting to buy them all the time. Hubby is much happier they aren't over the house like before lol.
I watch your videos for many reasons, the first reason is because I really like you! I like your personality, I find you so easy to watch and really haven’t found a video I don’t enjoy yet! I am a houseplant collector myself and I always watch your videos and go to your instagram to learn about plants and also the best way for me to grow my own. I have become a better plant parent through your advice. If you do decide to do another channel please let us know because I would totally subscribe and watch your videos because like I said, I enjoy watching you and your content, I don’t just come for the plants. Thank you for being so open and honest with us, I hope you figure a way to continue to be a full time influencer because you’re such a naturally likeable person and you’re really down to earth and there’s not too many people like that out there anymore. Take care and sending you positive and hopeful vibes 🪴🌱🌿💚
Thank you so so much for all of that 🥹 Comments like this and sweet people like you are honestly what keeps me going and I love knowing I have helped in some way. It's crazy how much UA-cam I watched back in the day learning about houseplants and now I'm making videos and doing the same for others. It's crazy to think about! I never imagined growing a following like this and having the support I do. It means so much to me and I'm just really happy to be here so thank you!!
@@plantsbymelissa honestly, it’s just the truth. You are always active and trying to help all of your followers with their plants. You’ve even answered me on instagram like 4/5 times and I have never had any other influencer do that before. I really do wish I could do more to support you right now but I’ll continue to like your videos, comment, watch the adds and then maybe one day I can support in other ways 🤞🏻. Plants are so amazing for your mental health and I do find your videos somewhat comforting. I always get cosy on the sofa in the evenings with a cup of tea, my pets and my blanket and binge watch your content hahaha!!
I hope you like them! I love how easy they are to make and to water :) I put my manjula on one recently and I cannot wait for it to start climbing! I think it looks so beautiful!
Cheers to growing this account in 2023!! 🥂 I looked forward to each of your videos, and love your kitties! After my last one died, I haven't been able to get another. Maybe one day! :)
I'm so so sorry 🤗 It's so tough and I MISSED having cats so much. I waited 8 weeks after we put our last one down and saw the siblings and immediately knew I needed them 🥹 Thank you!!
I love watching your videos so informative I'm kind of new to the plant mom life and learned so much from your videos also, I love seeing how active your beautiful cats are with you. My goal is to try to make a moss pole this year I know it sounds ridiculous lol but like I said I'm new to this plant life. Not sure if you have a video on the current soil that you use or if you make your own chunky soil? I hope all goes well for you and hubby this year and thanks so much for all your plant content. 😊
Thank you!! I'm glad I can help :) Not ridiculous at all! I was soo unsure of what I was doing in the beginning! Moss poles are definitely a learn as you go type of thing. You get better at them and only you can decide what you works best for you in your space :) I use a mix I make I call it my chunky mix and I also use Sol Soils. I can link my soil mix video for you and thank you so much for being here! ua-cam.com/video/Ifwz6dDe6Rw/v-deo.html
As per your recommendation I purchase osmocote plus, my question is since it’s good fir 6 months is it ok to add to my pots now or wait until spring I live in Ottawa Canada so it’s definitely winter right now Thanks in advance for your advice, you always make it so easy to follow good plant care
Thank you so much! I would probably wait especially if the plants aren't growing a whole lot now in winter but you can definitely add some if you want to though. I would make sure it's the only fertilizer you're using so you don't risk burn or anything :)
hi! I was wondering why you put the pole in the center and not the edge of the pot? Ive been watching most of your videos but its my first time commenting haha
Hii! :) I've always placed them in the center of the pots. I feel like if they're not center then they aren't that steady to me once the poles get taller. The growth on the pole doesn't seem to affect it too much at least for me it seems that way :)
Happy New Year! I hope it is full of growth and fun! Love everything about your channel ❤ I’m not sure what music is annoying some? Is it while your shopping to do voiceovers? It’s never been an issue for me :) I do not like paid sponsorships that are not related to planty things and you ARE very wise to not promote a 50$ product for which you have to put your time and effort into each video for a product that’s likely a cheap item from Amazon sellers etc! I have stopped watching many plant UA-camrs bc of paid advertisements, I watch enough from UA-cam as it is! Once again love what your doing and keep it up! FYI kitty 🐈⬛ scratch post isn’t distracting, do not sweat the small stuff❤❤❤
Thank you! I think they meant the music I edit in while I'm talking. It's very low but I can see how it can be difficult to listen to for some. I would love to be able to make some extra money doing sponsorships because UA-cam Adsense isn't much at all. It's a way for creators to get paid to be able to do it full time which is what I'm struggling with because I might need to find part time work which would mean less content I'm able to put out. I usually do a video every 2-3 days which is a lot especially having a whole community on instagram that I am very active with. I usually skip over sponsorships if I'm not interested in them if I'm watching other creators but I totally understand the need for them. There's not many companies in the plant community that are willing to pay creators so when other larger companies or brands recognize your page and want to work with you then that's amazing if it works out and you like what they're wanting you to promote. I hope that makes sense some 🤗
Thank you!! ☺️ I'm definitely going to be here making plant content but If I venture out a little bit more and see where it leads I will definitely let you all know :)
Thank you guys so much for the love on this video! I appreciate you all so much!! I'll respond and get back to more comments later today!! 🤗
❤
Not many content creators do that anymore, but I hope that you being vocal about this will give more of them the courage to do the same.
of course!! I hope so too!
@@plantsbymelissa it shows! You really do a great job! It makes sense that you were a nurse! Extreme attention to detail!!
Thank you! I'm so happy to be here :) Sometimes I still have to fight back the urge to engage but it's best to just ignore them.
Thank you so much!! 🥹🙏🏼
Thanks for being real about what it’s actually like for creators! You’re my favorite plant influencer!
Thank you!! 🥹🥹
And actually it says more about the ones that hate, than about the person they hate 😘
You are gorgeous!
Thank you SO much!!
I just moved into a new place so my goal is just to planty decorate and make the visions in my head come true. I love my new space so can’t wait. ❤
That sounds so exciting!! Congratulations on your new place!!!
I'm 38 girl! Do it all! What can it hurt to try? You are beautiful & very well spoken! You will find your people in anything you do!
Thank you!! 🥹 I keep telling myself to just do it and see what happens. I'll definitely share if I decide to open up a second channel :)
Wishing the best for them to bloom for you!!
@@plantsbymelissa thank you. So far so good with the lone peduncle. The one on the Bella, is getting bigger.
Love this video. I’ve been watching you since Feb. when I started collecting plants to help with anxiety. I’ve learned so much from you. Looking forward to seeing what 2023 holds for you. God bless!!!
Thank you so much! So happy to have you here!! Collecting and growing plants is so rewarded and they really do help so much!
I must say, I really enjoyed listening to your long chatty stories.
Thanks for sharing! Plants were my mental health balm too x
Wishing you and your husband and the cats all the best for 2023
Greetings from Germany ❣️
Oh, and you belong very much here!
Love you Melissa! I truly appreciate your honesty and integrity. I’ll definitely support whatever other avenues you venture out to! ❤️
Thank you so much!! 🤗
😆 Love, your IG pal from NC 💗
aw thank you for saying that! I love watching videos while I do my nails too lol it's so relaxing!! I appreciate you!! 🤗
Thank you so much for sharing your story!
Love love love this! You are the sweetest plant person I have gotten to know & love! Keep being yourself! Love the kitties too! 😸 💗💗💗
Thank you so much! 🤗
I truly hope to continue seeing you grow and I'll be supporting you all the way! :)
Hi Melissa, what about landscaping or gardening videos. Adding to your new home. 😁
We're hoping to landscape some this spring so I can definitely film some of that. I don't know anything at all about gardening but I would love to learn one day and start! :)
@@plantsbymelissa I started watching Garden Answer, Laura, when she only had a few thousand subscribers, now she has over a million.
Love your videos you are such a lovely genuine person. I wish you good luck for the future xx
Love long chatty videos! And doing planty things while watching, motivating 😊
I'm so glad!! Thank you for watching!! 🥰
The most relaxing 50 mins. of the entire holiday. Thank you very much 🙂
Thank you!! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! 🥹
Ps my planty goal for this year is to regain my sanity taking care of many plants! Haha 🌱
“I hope you guys don’t mind the cat post on the floor.” Melissa you’re just like me 😂 whenever I have a zoom meeting working from home, I feel like I need to scramble and pick up all the cat toys in the background 😂
LOL I know most people won't care but I feel like I still have to hide it 😆
@@plantsbymelissa me too! My boss told me she loves when my cats pop up in meetings but I’m still a little paranoid 😂
I seriously loved this video Melissa ❤❤❤❤❤ so so happy I found you!!! Your vibes are the best!!
Thank you!!! 🥹 Happy to have you here! I feel so lucky to be able to make videos and do what I'm doing right now so thank you for being here!
commenting to help you with your engagement and the algorithm!
i hope you can continue to make plant content. i enjoy it a lot. best wishes for the rest of 2023! (it's already april, yikes!)

I'm sure it was a tough decision to retire but glad that you knew it was best for you 🥰
I always enjoy your videos. I feel like if you keep being true to yourself, you’ll continue to succeed.
My goal is to learn more about plants and to put more of my plants on poles🥰
Love to hear that!! Moss poles are so rewarding :)
You are my favorite and I love you because you have saved me with my plants.
aw thank you!! I'm so glad I can help!
I'm happy I can be here 🤗
defiantly would be cool to see you live!
And there is absolutely no shame in wanting to start up something else for yourself to be able to make money on social media full time if this is something you're super passionate about 😊
Thank you so much!! I appreciate that!!
I would watch your makeup videos, you always look so nice. Go for it!
Thank you so much! 🥰
Keep up the great work!👍🏼🎉
Thanks so much! 😊 So happy to have you here!! 🥹
I just turned 35. It’s nice seeing people my age make videos. Keep it up!
Thank you!!
I agree! I’m almost 39, and it’s very nice to see people my age making videos.
Way to go! Stand your ground! Good to see Luna!
Thank you! I definitely do now :) Luna was really wanting to help me for this video lol
My 2023 plant goal is to have beautiful plants on poles 🥰
I have started quite a few but I have just popped a variegated heart leaf on a pole and that’s the one I am currently excited for the most. Although I can definitely see my Cebu blue starting to size up which is very exciting.
Thank you!! :) Yay!! I love that for you!! It's such an amazing feeling watching them climb. Each new leaf is so exciting!!
I hope you can grow your channel so you can keep doing it 😊🌿🐈 I'd love lifestyle and beauty content, vlogs and stuff like that would be lovely ☺️
Thank you so much!! I'm happy to hear that! If I start another channel on here I will let you know 🥰
I just recently subscribed to your channel and I’m a cat and plant lover. I have strings of hearts, turtles, pearls, dolphins, beads and fish hooks. I love the plants that trail.
Welcome!! Thank you for being here 🥰 string of plants are definitely so pretty!!
1 in =1 out🤞
Loved this video, it was nice to understand where you come from
Good for you to keep your respect in this industry
Keep it going, I watch all your content
I have 200 plants but all easy plants mostly cactus, I really use the info of your poles
Thanks for your 2022 stuff
Hope you have a great 2023
Thank you for being here! That's amazing!! I only have a few cactus plants but I like them! I think they can be difficult plants for a lot of people so that's amazing to have that many!! 🥰
Happy New Year to you Melissa! I love your videos and your 3 cats 🙂
Happy new year!! Thank you :)
Thank you so much! 🙏🏼
Thank you!! I have the rabbit tracks and they do fold their leave up :)
@@plantsbymelissa thank you, good to know.
Excuse me 37!!! You look waaaaaay younger. Current favorite plant-tuber I’m here for the introvert energy 😊
Thank you!! I'll take it hehe :) I'm so happy to have you here!
I am going to try the plastic d shaped poles this year. Thinking about using one for a Manjula Pothos. Also wanting to focus on sizing up some plants.
I hope you like them! I love how easy they are to make and to water :) I put my manjula on one recently and I cannot wait for it to start climbing! I think it looks so beautiful!
Forget the jealous haters!!!
Thank you so much to share your experience with us,I really like your videos and follow 👌💚🙏🌹🌹
You are so welcome!
Love your videos there always so interesting
As per your recommendation I purchase osmocote plus, my question is since it’s good fir 6 months is it ok to add to my pots now or wait until spring
I live in Ottawa Canada so it’s definitely winter right now
Thanks in advance for your advice, you always make it so easy to follow good plant care
@@plantsbymelissa i see! thank you so much for replying! have a lovely day
What if you reached out to the companies of the products you do like? Something where you’re in the negotiations?
I definitely need to reach out more :)
Love it !
I hope that makes sense some 🤗
I like that you keep it real,👍👏🏻
💚🌵☘️🌱💚
I appreciate that!!
Loved this video and I've learned so much about you 😚
I’ll follow what ever you decide to do. 😊
Thank you!! ☺️ I'm definitely going to be here making plant content but If I venture out a little bit more and see where it leads I will definitely let you all know :)
